Title: Month Long Horror/Halloween Marathon: 2009
Post by: addicted2dvd on September 28, 2009, 02:13:11 AM
My Month Long Horror/Halloween Marathon
2009
I know I am putting this post up a few days early... but I wanted to get the main post taken care of a little early as I am playing with the first post a little trying out new ideas. Suggestions Welcome.

With Halloween being my all-time favorite holiday... I like to celebrate it all month long. So every year at this time I have a month long horror / Halloween marathon. Every year I try to beat my record of most horror movies,  horror or Halloween episode TV Series and now Other (Shorts/Documentaries). Last year I did better then I ever have when I watched 100 Horror Movies, 45 TV Show Episodes & 2 Other. Will I be able to beat last year's record... I really don't know. To be honest I will be surprised if I do. But that is ok... as I plan to give it my all whether it is a win, loose or a draw! And no matter what happens I am going to have a great time!

My Watched Quick Guide:
Here is where you will see a list of everything watched for the month. Each title will be linked to the review. And any title I show in BOLD will be titles I viewed for the first time ever.

Well... yes.. but the reason for this is I am working out how to do it. Every year before now the first post was my first review. But since I stopped that so it don't show up on the home page (only the reviews shows up on home page) I was trying to think of a way to make the first post more then just a header.

Are you going to squeeze in any last minute non-horror this week before October officially begins?  Maybe sneak in a few westerns?  You should like The Wild Bunch...it's not a horror western but you do get to see people getting riddled with bullets and bleeding profusely

Title: Brotherhood of Blood
Movie Count:  1
TV Ep. Count:  0
Other Count:  0
Time Started:  12am

Plot:
Two horror legends reunite again. After the success of Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects, legendary actor Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses, Kill Bill 2) and horror icon Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead) team up again in Brotherhood of Blood, a claustrophobic thriller about a team of vampire hunters who must infiltrate a nest of the undead to save one of their own.

My Thoughts:
I decided to start my horror marathon with a vampire movie. As most people know I love vampire movies so picking one to start with shouldn't be a surprise. But at the same time I wanted to watch one I never seen before. And this one... even though it didn't have the highest of budgets has 3 stars I enjoy. Sid Haig, Ken Foree & Victoria Pratt.

Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this one as much as I was hoping to. It is only an average movie... maybe even slightly below average. I did like the stars of the movie.. and they did a good job with it. Unfortunately the script is what hurt this movie the most. The main idea of the storyline could have been good... but for some reason they constantly went back and forth with flashbacks throughout the movie. Which really served no purpose other then confusing you. And since when does Vampires use guns? I would have preferred a much more traditional vampire movie over this.

This didn't take you long. :)

I haven't even heard of this one.  Doesn't sound like I've missed much.

Of course it didn't take long. I started at midnight and it is a hour and half movie... with the last 7 min or so end credits. And nope... not really anything missed here.

Title: Fangoria: Blood Drive: The Hitch
Movie Count:  1
TV Ep. Count:  0
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  2:50am

DVD Plot:
Fangoria Magazine, the world's most popular horror publication for over 25 years, in association with Koch Vision, presents an original compilation of the winning entries from the 'Fangoria Blood Drive' short film competition. From psychotic slashers, to flesh eating zombies, to live finger pets, this DVD has something for every fanatic horror fan! Musician and "House of 1000 Corpses" director 'Rob Zombie' hosts. With over 1 hour of exclusive behind-the-scenes access into the world of legendary director 'Clive Barker' and special effects wizard 'Stan Winston'...more than enough to inspire any amateur filmmaker!

The Hitch Plot:
On a dark and lonely Texas road, a man and his wife pick up a lost young woman. They soon find out she's more than they bargined for as she reveals their sordid past and seeks a grizzly revenge.

My Thoughts:
Fangoria: Blood Drive is a DVD that I won on an internet contest several years ago. And I haven't watched it since so I thought I would pull it out and watch a short here and there. The Hitch is a very good short. It is filled with both great atmosphere and gore. The story is well written and the acting is well done. I think this short alone makes the disc worth getting.

Title: The Hunger: The Complete First Season: The Swords
Movie Count:  1
TV Ep. Count:  1
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  7:30am

Show Plot:
Terence Stamp hosts the first season of this spine-tingling horror anthology series from Executive Producers Tony and Ridley Scott, which features a phenomenal cast of familiar faces as you've never seen them before. Inspired by leading genre writers, each episode will draw you into a mesmerizing world of terrifying characters and erotic encounters, where demons feed on the weaknesses of men and temptation consumes reason.

Episode Plot:
When James Chandler arrives in London, a visit to a fetish club leads to a relationship with Musidora, a woman who can survive being pierced with swords.

My Thoughts:
This show was strange... but entertaining. The first thing I noticed on this was the opening credits which was weird on it's own. The next thing I noticed was that it is hosted by Terrance Stamp. This I am not sure how I feel about yet. I will need to see him host more episodes before I decide. The episode itself was more of the same... strange but entertaining. I know this series is a horror anthology series... but I didn't find this episode to contain the elements that I normally associate with horror. This episode I will say is good... but has plenty of room for improvement. As for the series on a whole... I will have to see more of it to decide.

Title: Dead Set
Movie Count:  2
TV Ep. Count:  1
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  9:30am

Plot:
Starring Jaime Winstone (Donkey Punch, Kidulthood), Dead Set is E4's new horror series in which the dead are returning to life and attacking the living. Curiously there are a few people left in Britain who aren't worried about any of this - that's because they're the remaining contestants in Big Brother. Cocooned in the safety of the Big Brother house, they're blissfully unaware of the horrific events unfolding in the outside world. Until an eviction night when all hell breaks loose...

Kelly (Winstone), a production runner working on a fictional series of Big Brother, finds herself trying to fend off the walking dead alongside her producer boss Patrick (Andy Nyman, Severance), boyfriend Riq (Riz Ahmed, Britz) and the remaining Big Brother housemates. Featuring cameos from Davina McCall and severally former housemates, this is a cruel and twisted take on one of TV's biggest game shows.

Dead Set
was created and written by Charlie Brooker (Nathan Barley co-creator and Guardian columnist).

My Thoughts:
This is what appears to be a UK miniseries. I always include miniseries in my movie count since that is how I watch them. I think it is a plus when watching this if you are already at least familiar with the show Big Brother... if not a fan of it. I have been watching Big Brother for a few years now (though not the UK version) so I think that helped my enjoyment some. I will say that if you are not used to the slang that those in the UK use... some of this can be a little confusing at first. Though this is something I am getting used to myself now that I have a handful of shows from the UK. And I will give it to the UK... they don't have the hang-ups about what they put on TV as we in the US do. There is no way something like this could be aired on a regular TV Channel. It would have to be saved for the premium channels. Even though we aren't as strict as we used to be on the violence... they show violence, use bad language (that we would never get away with) and feel free to show some nudity as well. I see a show like this and wonder why we have some of the rules we have here in the US. And I must say... I had a real blast watching this show I think they did a great job with it. Even if there was a couple of things I could have went without seeing. Which I will leave out of this review. And I am not sure I cared too much for the way it ended. But it didn't effect my fun too much at all. The show uses the newer fast moving zombies instead of the slow/barely moving ones that you see in the original Romero zombie movies. Over-all I say this is a must see for any zombie movie fan.

Title: Cadaverella
Movie Count:  3
TV Ep. Count:  1
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  5pm

Plot:
Cinderella gets a make-over in this dark tale of love, murder, revenge and the walking dead.

My Thoughts:
What kind of expectations do you have when going into such a movie? If you are smart none at all! This is one of the low budget movies in the 50 movie boxset I recently got called Mortuary of Madness. So going into this one I was expecting much of nothing... possibly even a new movie to call the worst I ever seen. And it is pretty pitiful that is for sure... but at the same time it is strangely entertaining. The kills are extremely low budget... the acting is only fair at best, a few of the actors had multiple parts... only putting on a wig... maybe a pair of glasses and it seemed to take most the movie before we got the zombie action (if you can call it that). I don't know why... but despite all of that... it was just plain fun to watch and laugh at. It may take a while... but I can see myself watching this one again.

Maybe this one will be selected from my marathon also (my database for it countains 164 films) ;D

Pete if you want a challenger for worst movie ever made try Super Hell 1 or 2 in the same set. Just what I've seen while profiling them was enough to see that it's 2 pieces of crap

Title: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Movie Count:  4
TV Ep. Count:  1
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  1:30pm

Plot:
Blonde, bouncy Buffy (KRISTY SWANSON) is your typical high school cheerleader – her goal is to "marry Christian Slater and die" and nothing gets in her way when it's time to shop. But all that changes when a strange man (DONALD SUTHERLAND) informs her she's been chosen by fate to kill vampires. With the help of a romantic rebel (LUKE PERRY), Buffy is soon spending school nights protecting L.A. from Lothos, the Vampire King (RUTGER HAUER), his sidekick, Lefty (PAUL REUBENS), and their determined gang of bloodsuckers. It's everything you'd expect from a teen queen in the Valley.

My Thoughts:
Thought it was about time for me to slip in a Comedy-Horror. I enjoy a good comedy horror now and then. I know a lot of people that prefer the TV Series to this movie... and I agree... I do enjoy the series more... but I do still enjoy the movie as well. The thing is... with this one... I do definitely enjoy it and find myself coming back to it multiple times. But I have no idea why I enjoy watching this movie as much as I do. It isn't particularly that funny... but all the same I still really get a kick out of it.

Excellent review of Dead Set, Pete! Did you see what I intended by posting clips of Davina? Ends up a bit different in this doesn't she? I have to say my favourite was the blonde contestant with the catch-phrase, "don't like it" as she trots about squealing...

Have I mentioned Being Human before, Pete? It's a comedy-drama about a vampire and a werewolf sharing a house with a ghost. The emphasis though is on trying to make the three as believable as possible. It leans more toward drama and is frequently decent, with a reasonable amount of gore (absolutely nowhere near Dead Set though!). I haven't seen all of it, but enjoyed it.

Title: Dead Teenagers
Movie Count:  5
TV Ep. Count:  1
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  6:20pm

Plot:
On a dark autumn eve, a college student finds a mysterious book in his campus library. Within it's pages he finds four gruesome tales of ghosts, werewolves, vampires and the unknown.

My Thoughts:
This is another movie that was included in the Mortuary of Madness: 50 Movies boxset. So of course I am going into this one with no expectations at all. When I first bought this set... a friend of mine said to me that with the price it cost me... if I enjoy just one movie in the set... that the set will be worth the price of purchase. Well... it is worth it! This movie is an Anthology. It has 4 stories in the one movie. The wrap around story pretty much sucked. Basically non-existent as it was no more then a guy finding a hand-written book in the library and he was reading the stories that someone wrote in the notebook. The first story I didn't care for at all really. It was more confusing then anything. I still not sure what it was I watched to be honest. By this time I was thinking another looser of a movie. Then it went back to the guy reading the book in the library... he turns the page and you see the title and a drawing of a werewolf.  I like werewolves so I decided to continue to watch. Now this story... while it took a few minutes.. it just grabbed me. I found myself enjoying this movie... I thought cool! The third story is a ghost story. Now this one I really loved! I was actually glued to the TV off one of these movies!?!? What a pleasant surprise. The fourth and final story in this anthology is a vampire story. This one I didn't care as much for as I did stories numbers 2 & 3... but it is definitely quite a bit better then the first one.

The movie itself actually has a feel of a student movie. Definitely low budget... the acting is fair at best... and the effects are almost non-existent. But the stories... these stories are more then enjoyable... they were definitely well done. Well...except for the first one and the wrap around anyway. I am really pleasantly surprised to be able to give this movie such a high rating (Probably too high of a rating). Especially considering that the acting and the effects both need help. But for me at least... the writer(s) made this film. So much so that you really don't care about the downfalls of the movie.

Title: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Movie Count:  6
TV Ep. Count:  1
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  9:45am

Plot:
The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Michael Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

My Thoughts:
This is one I was really looking forward to seeing for the first time. And I did enjoy it quite a bit. Though I think I let the hype get to me a little as I was expecting a little more from it. After 2 sequels I think it was the perfect time for a prequel... showing us how the war between the Vampires and the Lycans started. I would say if you liked the other movies in the Underworld series... you can't go wrong here.

I reviewed the pilot of Being Human.
I love Davina  :drooling:

Title: Creepy Clips: Girls Night Out
Movie Count:  7
TV Ep. Count:  1
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  11:40

Plot:
Creepy Clips : Girls Night Out is the first anthology of the erotic horror trilogy. It countains two tales of erotic terror.

My Thoughts:
Another one from the Mortuary of Madness 50 movie boxset. Naturally I am going into this one expecting much of nothing. This one didn't impress me much at all. It is another Anthology horror... though it seems hardly worth it to have one with only 2 stories... and no wraparound story. And the stories worried more about having half naked women dancing around then to create a decent story. Though the audio and video quality was better then I expected. There just wasn't enough to the stories themselves.

Nah... not at all Rich... it was more an action/war movie done with Vampires and Werewolves. But that is how all the Underworld movies are.

Title: Masters of Horror: Family
Movie Count:  7
TV Ep. Count:  2
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  4:30pm

Plot:
It's a beautiful day in suburbia where mild-mannered bachelor Harold Thompson (George Wendt of CHEERS) is happily at work in his basement building the perfect family. But when a young couple moves in nextdoor, Harold sets his sights on the sexy young wife (Meredith Monroe of DAWSON'S CREEK). In a sunshine world of picket fences and manicured lawns, is it ever possible to know what gruesome plans are percolating in the minds of your neighbors? Matt Keeslar (SCREAM 3, ROSE RED) co-stars in this grisly black comedy with a killer twist from Director John Landis (AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, ANIMAL HOUSE) and Writer Brent Hanley (FRAILTY).

My Thoughts:
This is an episode of the Anthology Showtime Series Masters of Horror. This is one of the episodes I really enjoyed. It has a nice amount of gore in it... but also at the same time it has a lighthearted sense about it that borders on comedy. I think everyone in this one did a good job... I liked all the characters. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Title: Masters of Horror: The V Word
Movie Count:  7
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  1
Time Started:  5:30pm

Plot:
For two geeky best friends who’ve only experienced carnage via their video games, it’s the ultimate late night dare: Ever seen a real dead guy? But when the pair breaks into a creepy local mortuary, they unleash a ferocious ghoul (Michael Ironside of SCANNERS and STARSHIP TROOPERS ) who’s hungry to share a few depraved urges of his own. Even if these pals-for-life can resist a violent suburban blood-spree, is there any peer pressure more horrific than that of the undead? Jodelle Ferland of SILENT HILL co-stars in this grisly twist on teenage vampirism written by series creator Mick Garris.

My Thoughts:
This one has to be my favorite episode of Masters of Horror. But that is to be expected since I am a huge fan of Vampire movies. I liked the 2 main characters in this one. I could relate to them as they did remind me a bit of myself and a friend of mine years ago. The vampire myth gets played with a lot in different shows.. and this one is no different. This is one of several I have seen that the vampires do not have fangs. I hate to see no fangs on the vampires... but even that didn't take away from this episode too much. Being a Masters of Horror episode... there is a nice amount of gore in there as well. The V Word is definitely an episode I would highly recommend!

Title: Fangoria: Blood Drive: Mr. Eryams
Movie Count:  7
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  7pm

Mr. Eryams Plot:
A mysterious house, a haunted girl, and a strange man sent by the church to investigate the strange happenings…or is he?

My Thoughts:
This short is definitely a good one... it has some decent atmosphere. Though I liked the first short (The Hitch) I watched on the DVD better. I think everyone involved did a good job. I especially liked the actress, a girl by the name of Laura Hofrichter. She did a great job... and was cute as well.

Title: The Craft: Special Edition
Movie Count:  8
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  7am

Plot:
Sarah has always been different.  So as the newcomer at St. Benedict's Academy, she immediately falls in with the high school outsiders.  But these girls won't settle for being a group of powerless misfits.  They have discovered THE CRAFT, and they are going to use it.

Critics are spellbound, calling THE CRAFT "slick, shrewd, touching, funny and most appropriately, downright mean." - Arthur Salm, San Diego Union-Tribune

My Thoughts:
I know of a lot of people that never cared for this movie... but I always liked it. I have watched it several times since getting it on DVD. I think all 4 of the girls did a great job in this movie. The way this one ended I had always hoped to see a sequel. Definitely an underrated movie... if you haven't checked it out yet... I definitely recommend it.

Title: Campfire Tales
Movie Count:  9
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  9:30am

Plot:
Horror takes a detour deep into the woods in this terrifying cross between Scream and Tales From The Crypt, starring Christine Taylor (Dodgeball) and Ron Livingston (Office Space).

Returning home from a concert and driving recklessly, four teenagers crash their car on a deserted road. To ward off the cold, they build a fire and wait for help. But the hair-raising stories they tell around the fire put a deeper chill into the night. Each tale is more lurid, more horrifying, more shocking than anything they've heard before. Yet for these unlucky teens in the woods, the biggest shock is still to come...

My Thoughts:
I blind bought this one for last year's Halloween Marathon. I enjoyed it so much that I watched it a couple times since... and decided that I am ready to watch it again now. I am to the point of saying this is my favorite Anthology Horror that I have seen to date. Not only was all 3 stories suspenseful with great atmosphere... the wrap around story (where anthologies usually loose me) was a really good story in it's own right. The only thing that I could consider a downfall in this movie would have to be the fact that the first 2 stories are tellings of very well known urban legends... so you fairly quickly know what to expect. But that is ok... because these stories are so well done that you still enjoy every moment of it... even if you do know where it is going. This is one I will highly recommend... especially if you like anthology horror... give it a try!

Title: April Fool's Day
Movie Count:  10
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  11:45am

Plot:
Each April Fool’s Day, fabulously wealthy young Desiree Cartier hosts the most killer coming-out parties at her to-die-for Southern mansion, and this social event is never complete without one of her patented pranks. But when this year’s joke turns deadly, Desiree, her brother Blaine, and five of their friends all become the targets of a twisted killer who begins hunting them down one by one in this chilling tale of seduction, betrayal and revenge.

My Thoughts:
This is the 2008 remake of the 1986 cult classic. After getting this remake very cheap ($3.00 @ Big Lots) I heard that this movie is pretty much universally hated. So needless to say I went into this one with very low expectations. Even with that... I was not very impressed with this movie. This movie don't even start to get interesting until about half way through the movie... and then it is far from great. Well even though this is no more then an average movie (maybe even less then average) I can't get upset about it since it was only $3... a basic price of a rental.

I just recently watched Being Human and thought it was great show. A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost trying to be "normal" and fit in. I originally expected this to be a comedy but quickly enjoyed the dramatic twists and turns. It's six full hour episodes!

Title: Dead Birds
Movie Count:  11
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  4:30pm

Plot:
When a group of criminals on the run after a bank robbery take refuge in an abandoned house they have no idea what evil they have come upon. Isolated and presumed deserted, the house is anything but safe...

As the night wears on and a thunderstorm grows outside, each member of the group begins to have visions of the atrocities that occurred within the house, haunting it forever. Voices in the well, visions of mangled bodies and clawing under the stairs plague their waking hours. As the fear in the group begins to grow and the supernatural forces in the house start to manifest themselves, they begin to turn on each other and exact the wrath of the souls trapped within the walls.

My Thoughts:
I bought Dead Birds for last year's Halloween marathon. I haven't watched it since... but I remembered I enjoyed it the first time around. So I was eager to give it another go. This one I liked a lot! I felt it was very well done... it had a good atmosphere... a few good jump scenes... and a bit of gore all mixed together. And it worked well for it.  I will definitely be willing to recommend this one to friends and family.

Title: The Haunted Mansion
Movie Count:  12
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  1:30pm

Plot:
From the studio that brought you Pirates Of The Caribbean...here's the fright-filled comedy adventure loaded with hair-raising laughs and eye-popping special effects! Eddie Murphy (Daddy Day Care) stars as a real estate agent whose family comes face to face with 999 grim, grinning ghosts in the creepy old Gracey Manor! Now, with the help of supernatural psychic Madame Leota (Jennifer Tilly - Liar, Liar), they must hilariously battle to break the mansion of its age-old curse...and do it before the clock strikes 13!

My Thoughts:
I felt in the mood for something more lighthearted and fun today (usually the case after seeing mother's doctor). I decided to pick The Haunted Mansion since it has been a long time since I seen it. It is definitely not the best ghost movie I ever seen... but what it is... is a fun way to spend 90min. If you are looking for scares you need to look elsewhere. But it is a good movie for the whole family to watch.

Title: The Haunting in Connecticut
Movie Count:  13
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  5:30

Plot:
Based on a chilling true story, Lionsgate's THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT charts one family's terrifying, real-life encounter with the dark forces of the supernatural. When the Campbell family moves to upstate Connecticut, they soon learn that their charming Victorian home has a disturbing history: not only was the house a transformed funeral parlor where inconceivable acts occurred, but the owner's clairvoyant son Jonah served as a demonic messenger, providing a gateway for spiritual entities to crossover.

Now unspeakable terror awaits, when Jonah, the boy who communicated with the powerful dark forces of the supernatural, returns to unleash a new kind of horror on the innocent and unsuspecting family.

My Thoughts:
I been waiting to see this movie every since I heard it was being made. This movie is based on a "True Story"... and I have the documentary on this case on DVD as it was one of the Pilot movies for the TV series A Haunting. The story is very good. So hoping it transferred to movie well. I wanted to not have too high of hopes going into this one... but I am afraid I failed at that. I have heard both good and bad about this movie... and thankfully I have to agree with those that liked it. Sure some of the stuff I seen in many ghost stories... but there was also stuff I seen in this movie for the very first time. There was a couple things that did bother me about the story. But over all I really enjoyed this one. The actor playing the ill son looked very familiar to me... but I just couldn't place where I knew him from... so after the movie I checked his filmography. Turns out I knew him from 2 different shows. He played Beaver on Veronica Mars and he also played Bart Allen (The Flash) on a couple episodes of Smallville. I would recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys ghost stories.

Title: Black Sunday
Movie Count:  14
TV Ep. Count:  3
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  8am

Plot:
Mario Bava’s 1960 directorial debut stands alone as one of the most influential and startling chillers of all time. British actress Barbara Steele became an international icon in this über-gothic fever dream pulsing with stunning cinematography and landmark special effects — both by Bava himself — in which the conventional trappings of the horror genre were indelibly impaled upon perverse sexuality and graphic sadism. It remains a masterpiece of the macabre that changed the face of cinema forever. This presentation of Bava’s uncut and uncensored International Version features the original Italian score and English dubbing.

My Thoughts:
This is a movie that was given to me by our good friend Roger. I have heard a lot of good things about this movie in the past and been wanting to see it for a long time now. You don't know how disappointed I was when this movie arrived the day after my abstaining from horror began. That means it was sitting on my unwatched shelf for 3 whole months before I was allowed to finally watch it. Barbara Steele has a great presence in this movie. It is no wonder she became as famous as she has. I absolutely loved the scene in the beginning of the movie with the mask. While I did enjoy this movie... I feel it lost a little something as it went on. The middle/end portions off the movie just didn't hold up to the beginning. Not that it is a bad movie... I am glad I finally got to see this one... and glad it was added to my collection.

Plot:
ATTACK OF THE JACK-O-LANTERNS
Every Halloween, Lee and Tabby scare the daylights out of their pals. So this year, four of them plot to out-spook their spookers. It's a good plan, except that now everyone's in for a Halloween scare!

VAMPIRE BREATH
One night, Freddy and Cara Renfield discover a secret door in their house leading to an underground cavern - and a shocking discovery. Turns out they live with bats. Vampire bats!

LET'S GET INVISIBLE
Max and Noah discover a mysterious mirror that holds the power to make them invisible! But when they start to experiment with it, they find that they can't always control the effect...and that this very spooky mirror is not what it appears - or disappears - to be!

My Thoughts:
ATTACK OF THE JACK-O-LANTERNS
This is a cute little Halloween themed episode. And I liked the ending twist... was fun

VAMPIRE BREATH
Being a Vampire fan as I am... I enjoyed this one quite a bit. It is a fun little story for all.

LET'S GET INVISIBLE

Title: Creepshow
Movie Count:  15
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  4pm

Plot:
Two macabre masters — writer Stephen King and director George A. Romero — conjure up five shocking yarns, each a virtuoso exercise in ghouls-and-gags style of classic '50s horror comics.  A murdered man emerges from the grave for Father's Day cake.  A meteor's ooze makes everything...grow.  A professor selects his wife as a snack for a crated creature.  A scheming husband plants two lovers up to their necks in terror.  A malevolent millionaire with an insect phobia becomes the prey of a cockroach army.  Add the spirited performances of a fine cast (Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson, E.G. Marshal and King himself) and the ghoulish makeup wizardry of Tom Savini.  Let the Creepshow begin!

My Thoughts:
This is one of my favorite anthology movies. Sure... some of it is right silly but... even so for the most part all the segments are just fun to watch. I think my favorite segment was the one where "A scheming husband plants two lovers up to their necks in terror."... this was the one where Leslie Neilson buried the couple to their necks in the sand on the beach... waiting for the high tide to come.  That one then followed closely by the "crated creature" Fluffy.  My least favorite has to be the last segment... the one about the bugs. I mean it was ok... just nothing special. But of course I enjoyed all the segments. Normally it is the wrap around story that loses my attention. But this is one of the few that I actually enjoy.

Title: Laid to Rest Unrated Director's Cut
Movie Count:  16
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  2
Time Started:  7pm

Plot:
Bobbi Sue Luther (Night of the Demons 09), Kevin Gage (HEAT), Lena Headey (300,THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES), Johnathon Schaech (QUARANTINE) and Thomas Dekker (THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES) star in the slasher shocker that takes the 'killer-in-a-mask' movie and rips it a whole new future: A young woman (Luther) wakes up inside a locked casket with no memory of who she is or how she got there. But once she escapes, The Girl will quickly learn that she – and everyone she comes in contact wtih – is being pursued by ChromeSkull, an unstoppable maniac armed with a metal skull mask, a shoulder-mounted video camera, and a ferocious appetite for slaugher. Sean Whalen (MEN IN BLACK), Lucas Till (HANNAH MONTANA: THE MOVIE) and Richard Lynch (ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN) co-star in this unflinching vision of graphic carnage from writer/director/FX master Robert Hall, featuring music by Suicidal Tendencies.

My Thoughts:
OK... what to say about this movie. It is one I got off of Walmart's Halloween display the other day. It was a complete blind buy... I never even seen the trailer before buying this movie. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. The killer wore a skull mask that was made of chrome. It looked pretty cool! There was a familiar face in this movie. Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) is in this one. Laid to Rest is pretty heavy on the gore. So if you do not like gory movies I suggest staying away from this one. There is a nice selection of extras on this disc as well.

Title: 100 Years of Horror: The Complete Collection
Movie Count:  16
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  9:15pm

Plot:
This frightfully fascinating five-DVD set chronicles the history of movie horror from earliest experimental chillers through the unforgettable "golden age of movie monsters" and on through today's graphic horror films in 26 horrific, half-hour shows. Hosted by Christopher Lee, the screen's legendary King of Horror, the series features appearances by Robert De Niro, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hugh Hefner, Charlton Heston, Kenneth Branagh, Joe Dante, and many more.

Also featured are rare interviews with Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Claude Rains. Included as a special bonus are never-before-seen interviews with the friends and families of the legendary names of horror such as Bela Lugosi, Jr.; Boris Karloff's daughter, Sarah Karloff; Claude Rains' daughter, Jessica Rains, and more.

The collection also includes chilling scenes from such classics as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Phantom Of The Opera, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, and The Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as more recent chillers such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Halloween, Poltergeist and The Haunting. Plus home movies from the sets of horror classics, outtakes, screen tests, previously "lost" films, and other exciting surprises. Easily the most interesting and informative horror chronology ever assembled.

FRANKENSTEIN'S FRIENDS
KArloff's career was defined by his sympathetic portrayal of "the monster," but others took on thjis challenging roll over the years. This fascinating installment tells the story behind Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly's timeless tale.

BARON FRANKENSTEIN
Hammer Films "reanimated" the Frankenstein franchise in the 1950s with it's terrifying team of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee as doctor and "patient." Take a look at how this classic story changedin the '50s, '60s - and beyond.

My Thoughts:
Both these short documentaries were very interesting. There was a few movies that looked like fun mentioned. Though I couldn't believe some of the things they put the name Frankenstein on! Christopher Lee did a great job hosting this one. And I was even surprised to see Hugh Hefner on here talking about horror movies.

I'm almost positive (haven't watch this set from a long time) that one of those Frankenstein is Frankenhooker ;D

Seriously Pete if you don't own it get it fast
This is a great horror-comedy directed by Frank Henenlotter who had also made the Basket Case Trilogy and Brain Damage. I can't recommand enough any of his film ;D

The DVD is oop but the prices at marketplace are reasonable (http://www.amazon.com/Frankenhooker-Patty-Mullen/dp/B000I8OOI8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1254886126&sr=8-1)

Title: Fright Night
Movie Count:  17
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  12pm

Plot:
Meet Jerry Dandridge. He's sweet, sexy, and he likes to sleep in late. You might think he's the perfect neighbor. But before inviting Jerry in for a nightcap, there's just one thing you should know. Jerry prefers his drinks warm, red -- and straight from the jugular! It's FRIGHT NIGHT, a horrific howl starring Chris Sarandon as the seductive vampire and William Ragsdale as the frantic teenager struggling to keep Jerry's deadly fangs out of his neck. Only 17-year-old Charley Brewster (Ragsdale) knows Jerry's bloodcurdling secret. When Charley can't get anybody to believe him, he turns to TV horror host Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), who used to be the "Great Vampire Killer" of the movies. Can these mortals save Charley and his sweetheart Amy (Amanda Bearse) from the wrathful bloodsucker's toothy embrace? If you love being scared, FRIGHT NIGHT will give you the nightmare of your life!

My Thoughts:
Time to fall back on one of my favorites. No it is not the scariest Vampire movie out there... but for some reason I think it is a lot of fun... and I never tire of it. Of course the fact that Roddy McDowall is in it is a help. Also Amanda Bearse (the neighbor in Married... With Children) is in it as well... looking rather young which is surprising since the movie is only 2 years older then the series is. I think Chris Sarandon did a good job at bringing the classic idea of the vampire to this movie. but at the same time thought Stephen Geoffreys (Evil Ed) did a great job for a fun vampire that gave us a few laughs. I must admit though... I have always been disappointed in Amanda Bearse's look as a vampire... first I didn't care for her with that long red wig on... then I despised the look of the "Monster" version of her Vampire. Oh well... the way I see it is if that is all I have to complain about... then so what... I will enjoy this movie for years to come.

Title: The Body Snatcher
Movie Count:  18
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  6am

Plot:
Boris Karloff plays the title role in the Lewton adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's The Body Snatcher, directed with subtle calculation by versatile Robert Wise. A doctor (Henry Daniell) needs cadavers for medical studies and Karloff is willing to provide them - one way or another. Don't miss his scene with fellow horror icon Bela Lugosi.

My Thoughts:
This is my very first taste of Val Lewton. I normally liked to go into a new movie with low expectations... but I admit I went into this one a little hyped. But that is ok... I absolutely loved every minute of it. Sure it moves a little slower then the movies I am used to... but I believe that is to be expected with the classics. Besides... the story was so good... so interesting that even the slow parts had you glued to the set. I so enjoyed watching both horror legends in this movie... Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi both gave great performances. Every scene with the two of them together was great... but especially one scene in particular. The scene where Joseph (Lugosi) finally had enough of John Grey (Karloff)... and decided it was time to settle things. I really enjoyed everything about this movie... from the beginning to the well written (although somewhat predictable) ending. This is one true classic I highly recommend!

One word of warning though, that the majority of the films in the set are more thrillers than full-on gothic horror like this, so don't go into the others expecting the same style. I'm sure you'll enjoy them though...  ;D

Title: The Return of the Living Dead: Collector's Edition
Movie Count:  19
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  4pm

Plot:
Just when you though it was safe to go back to the cemetery - those brain eating zombies are back and hungry for more tasty mortals. A fiendish mix of outrageous humor and heart-stopping terror. The Return of the Living Dead is a "veritable smorgasbord of fun" (LA Herald-Examiner) filled with skin-crawling jolts, eye-popping visuals and relentless suprise!

On his first day on the job at an army surplus store, poor Freddy unwittingly releases nerve gas from a secret U.S. military canister, unleashing a unbelievable terror. The gas re-animates a corps of corpses, who arise from their graves with a ravenous hunger for human brains! And luckily for those carnivorous cadavers, there is a group of partying teens nearby, just waiting to be eaten!

My Thoughts:
I picked this DVD up the other day. Wanted to upgrade to the Collector's Edition. This is a movie I have always enjoyed quite a bit. It has a nice mixture of horror and comedy that is just fun to watch. I really liked Linnea Quigley's character in this one. And thought it was a nice touch that they made it so her worse fear is realized in this movie. I decided to watch this with the easter egg subtitle track on. There is a zombie subtitle track where all you get is grrr's ugghhh's.. this is not the one I am talking about here. If you go to that zombie subtitle track... highlight "Off" and press up on your remote you will be on a hidden red brain. Press enter here and you get a note from the zombies saying they didn't like how they were portrayed in that subtitle track.... that they are not mindless like that. And you get the option of subtitles of the zombie's thoughts. This is the one I watched. And let me tell you... I enjoyed it quite a bit. There was more then once that I was literally laughing out loud reading these "Zombie Thoughts". I felt it really added to the movie. Of course it I wouldn't watch this movie with them on all the time... but I do see it as something I would want to do again.

Title: Twilight
Movie Count:  20
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  6:45am

Plot:
Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) doesn’t expect much when she moves to the small town of Forks, Washington, until she meets the mysterious and handsome Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson)—a boy who’s hiding a dark secret: he’s a vampire. As their worlds and hearts collide, Edward must battle the bloodlust raging inside him as well as a coterie of undead that would make Bella their prey. Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling sensation by Stephenie Meyer, Twilight adds a dangerous twist to the classic story of star-crossed lovers.

My Thoughts:
When I got this DVD (a belated Birthday Gift) I heard a lot of people tell me this movie was terrible. It isn't even a horror movie... even though there are vampires. And so on. That made me to have to think about whether or not I wanted to add it to this marathon. But I decided to go ahead and add it since I have always considered this a horror/Halloween marathon. And I believe vampires whether in a horror setting or not fits in nicely with the Halloween theme. At least with all the bad reviews I got on this movie I am able to go into this one with very low expectations. And I figured that may help me to enjoy it more then most have.

I know that the vampire legend is one thing that the makers of the movies take a lot of creative licenses with. I have seen so many variations I couldn't begin to count them all. Even after watching this movie I am not sure how I feel about it. Some parts of it I felt were good. I really enjoyed the side story of the killings and the protection of Bella. Even though it is only slight... it put a horror aspect into the show for me. I absolutely hated the aspect of how they changed the effects of sunlight on vampires, though that did explain away how they could be out in the day time. I did kind of like the fact that there could be good and bad vampires... just like in the human race. I didn't care much for the narration of Bella's in portions of the movie. The idea of the narration wasn't bad.... but the flowery romance novel like writing of it put me off.

So going with all these conflicting feelings of this movie... I am having a hard time judging how I want to rate this one. How much of this movie was good in my eyes... and how much of it wasn't? In this case that is a tough question for me. I am not sorry this is in my collection... but I am also glad that it is not one I actually paid to put there. And is not one I see upgrading to the two disc version. It is however one I could see watching again... though not very often. And I can see myself seeing any sequel it spawns. What does this mean? I guess it means it is a fairly average movie so I should give it a fairly average rating. What is average on a scale of 1-5... I guess I should split it right down the middle.

Title: R.L. Stine's Mostly Ghostly
Movie Count:  21
TV Ep. Count:  6
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  10am

Plot:
Max is hardly a typical 11-year-old: he loves magic, detests sports, and can't seem to say a single word to his crush, Traci, the most popular girl in school. But when he's the only one who can see the ghosts haunting his house, two young spirits make him the deal of a lifetime: he'll help them solve the mystery of their parents' disappearance and battle a wicked ghoul, if they'll help him go from being invisible to the most talked-about kid at school!

Featuring an all-star cast including Madison Pettis (The Game Plan), Ali Lohan (TV's Living Lohan), Luke Benward (How to Eat Fried Worms), Noah Cyrus (TV's Hannah Montana) and Sterling Beaumon (Four Christmases), it's one spooky mishap after another in this haunted adventure! Filled with thrills, chills and hilarious spills, R.L. Stine's Mostly Ghostly will have the whole family on the edge of their seats!

My Thoughts:
When I bought this for my daughter, Brittany the other day I promised her I would watch it with her this weekend. I found myself actually looking forward to it since I have enjoyed the other R.L. Stine stuff with her in the past. The first thing I noticed is that the look of the first ghost you see looks familiar. It took me a few... but then I realized he looked much like the Creep in the movie Creepshow 2 (the cartoon in between the segments). It is a cute movie with some nice chuckles in it. Definitely more for the kids then the adults. But it has some fun for all.

Title: Black Christmas: Special Edition
Movie Count:  22
TV Ep. Count:  8
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  7am

Plot:
The college town of Bedford is receiving an unwelcome guest this Christmas. As the residents of sorority house Pi Kappa Sig prepare for the festive season, a demonic stranger begins to stalk the house.

A series of grisly obscene phone-calls start to plague the residents of the sorority and soon they will each meet their fate at the hands of the psychotic intruder.

As the Police try to trace the phone calls, they discover that nothing is as it seems during this BLACK CHRISTMAS.

Starring Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin and John Saxon. Bob Clark's Black Christmas predates Halloween by 4 years and is now widely acknowledged as the inventor of the modern slasher film.

My Thoughts:
I been wanting to see this one for a long time now. I have always heard a lot of good things about this movie. Despite that... I tried to go into this movie with low expectations. And I enjoyed it very much. I found myself glued to my seat watching through-out the entire movie. It was pretty cool to see Margot Kidder in one of her earlier roles. And she happened to have my favorite kill in the movie. For those of you that don't like gore... there is no worries here. There is really no blood and gore. It is all left to the imagination. If you have never seen this movie... I highly recommend it.

Title: Fear Itself
Movie Count:  22
TV Ep. Count:  10
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  10:45am

Fear Itself Plot:
Terror has a new name: "Fear Itself"!  A 13-episode suspence and horror anthology series, "Fear Itself" takes horror to shocking new heights with its mix of mind-bending stories, spine-tingling chills, and top Hollywood talent including acclaimed directors John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV) and Ronnie Yu (Bride of Chucky); actors Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Shiri Appleby (Charlie Wilson's War), Elizabeth Moss ("Mad Men"), Cynthia Watros ("Lost"), Eric Roberts ("Heroes") and John Billingsley ("Star Trek: Enterprise"); and writers Joe Gangemi (Wind Chill, the novel "Inamorata"), Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and Dan Knauf ("Carnivale," "Supernatural").

Eater Plot:
Rookie cop Danny Bannerman spends the night in an isolated precinct guarding a serial killer who eats his victims and is intent on making Danny his next "meal."

Spooked Plot:
While on a stakeout in a haunted house,  a private eye hired by a mysterious woman is forced to confront the demons of his past.

My Thoughts:
This is a horror anthology series that I watched some episodes of when it originally aired. At that time I found the episodes to be very uneven. You got some really good episodes... and some that I would say is just fair. The first thing I noticed about this DVD set is the packaging. Sure... the tombstone packaging looks cool... but it definitely don't look to safe for the DVDs. The Tombstone is a digipak... with 2 discs on each side... overlapping discs. And if that isn't bad enough they are duel sided discs! Why would they even use duel sided disc? There is only 4 episodes per disc... which could easily fit on 1 side of a disc... but they decide to put only 2 episodes on each side of a disc. The next thing I noticed is that the episodes are not in the order that they aired. Sure only 8 of the 13 episodes actually aired on TV... but I think they should have put those 8 first... in order they aired and then did the final 5 in order they were made.

Eater:
This is one of the episodes I actually missed when it was on TV. It is the 4th episode to air. I really wish I seen this one on TV as it may have given me some more hope for the series... as I really liked this one a lot. Sure there was some problems with it.... some good sized plot holes and such. But it was entertaining... and kept my interest throughout the episode.

Spooked:
This is one of the few that I have seen before. Spooked is the second one to air... so this one is actually in the right spot in the set. It is one of the good episodes... I enjoyed it quite a bit. Though I will say it was a little on the weird side. But it has a good ghost story atmosphere to it. Definitely worth watching.

My Thoughts:
Free to Be You and Me
A good episode... enjoyed it quite a bit. Not only bring the story along nicely... there was a few laughs in this one as Dean had some great one liners.

The End
At the end of the last episode... when they showed the preview for this one I wasn't sure how I would feel about it. It seemed like Dean was going to take a jump forward in time for about 5 years. Don't get me wrong... I don't mind time travel stories... I actually usually enjoy them. But for a series such as this I think it has to be done in the right way... and it was as I enjoyed every minute of it. Enjoyed this one even more then the last. Though they did play it more seriously... didn't give Dean any good one liners this time.

Title: The Lost Boys: Two-Disc Special Edition
Movie Count:  23
TV Ep. Count:  12
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  8:45am

Plot:
Sam and his older brother Michael are all-American teens with all-American interests. But after they move with their mother to peaceful Santa Carla, California, things mysteriously begin to change. Michael's not himself lately.  And Mom's not going to like what he's turning into.

'The Lost Boys' reshapes vampire tradition, deftly mixing heart-pounding terror, rib-tickling laughs and a body-gyrating rock soundtrack. Under Joel Schumacher's direction, a marvelous cast - Jason Patric, Jami Gertz, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, Barnard Hughes and Edward Herrmann - stakes you to gleefully ghoulish entertainment.

My Thoughts:
Definitely one of my favorite Vampire movies... one I have seen countless times that I never tire of. This movie is the first thing I ever seen Keifer Sutherland in... and I think he did an awesome job in it. I also think Jason Patric did a great job as Michael. and I definitely couldn't help but to enjoy the Old Fart (Grandpa)... I just get such a kick out of him and all the stuffed animals he gave to Sam. Definitely one I would highly recommend to any horror fan... especially vampire fans. Though I do believe most all horror fans probably seen this one by now!

Title: Visitors of the Night
Movie Count:  24
TV Ep. Count:  12
Other Count:  4
Time Started:  6:45am

Plot:
Judith (Markie Post. There's Something About Mary) notices some very creepy things are happening around town. She and the town's sheriff make a chilling discovery, the town's teens are disappearing. When they recover they are suffering from amnesia. Judith is even more troubled when her daughter, Katie (Candace Cameron, Full House), is missing. When she returns and begins acting strangely, it becomes evident alien powers have taken over the town. Judith must stand up to her fears and rid the town of the aliens that have come to claim her daughter.

My Thoughts:
This is one of then movies I bought blind this month. From what I understand this is a TV Movie that I believe originally aired on Lifetime. I bought it not only because the plot sounded interesting... but I used to watch Markie Post in Night Court and Candace Cameron in Full House. Besides... the DVD was right cheap. While this really wasn't what I was expecting... I did enjoy this movie.

OK Everyone... I am very sad to say it looks like this is the end of my marathon. Real life gave me one hell of a smack in the face this month. I enjoyed what I could do... even though it was next to nothing. But hey... I will be around... and will be saying hi everyone! :)
