Weekend Movie Marathon
Unwatched DVDs
I have been getting so many movies lately... thanks to a handful of friends between here and the other site.... that I really feel the need of getting the number of unwatched down a little anyway. As it stands now I have 443 unwatched movie on DVD! Granted that some of these movies I have at least seen before... just not since getting the DVD. But the majority of them I never even seen before. So I will probably be concentrating more on the never seen before titles... though I may through in one or two I seen before... depending on my mood.
Below I am listing what is in my unwatched collection. If you want to make suggestions/requests feel free... I will try to get to them this weekend... though no promises. Also while I am listing them below for sake of completeness... please remember I still have to go two weeks without horror... so I can not watch any horror movies at this time.

How about Crash - after all it is a Sandra Bullock film!
A few to see with Brit: A Knight's Tale, National Treasure or The Rookie.
A History of Violence or American Gangster might help you through the last days of "no horror".
It looks like you have lots of new horror to look forward too this year.
-
LOL... yeah a few new horror for this year. :P
Surprised you didn't mention Million Dollar Baby... while I haven't decided yet... that may be the first one. It will at least get watched at some point this weekend if nothing bad happens that is. :P
-
Im gonna second Crash! .... its one of my favourite films :)
-
After the second recommendation of Crash I watched the trailer for it in profiler... I must say... I hope the movie is better then the trailer.... as the trailer unfortunately did little to impress me. I will try to get to it at some point this weekend... but don't think it will be the first one I watch.
-
I notice you have some of the same movies that I got via "The Kathy T Collection"...movies like Brokeback Mountain, 3000 Miles To Graceland and all of the Matrix movies. I do hope to watch and review some of those movies eventually myself. I think you should watch The Man Who Fell To Earth...especially since I never plan to watch that movie again :tease: And maybe Bad Girls...I didn't notice if you had any other westerns there...
-
 Now why does that statement about The Man Who Fell To Earth worry me? :P
Some of them I got from Kathy... but the Matrix movies came from another friend here at the forum. The same person that gave me all the Star Trek titles.

My Thoughts:
I thought I would start this weekend with one I haven't seen since I was probably in my early teens. It is hard to believe this movie was made in 1980... this movie is 30yrs old!!! Now I am starting to feel old! :P
When I decided to pop this one in I was a little worried with how well it would hold up.And I guess rightfully so. While I still enjoyed this movie... as it was entertaining to say the least... I found I was remembering it to be funnier then it actually was. Sure there was a couple good laughs in there... but the majority of the movie was more amusing then anything else. I will have to see if I can find some more Goldie Hawn movies that were funnier. If that is possible... maybe I remember her... herself being funnier then she actually was. I found I liked the boot camp portion of the movie best... it seemed to go a bit downhill once she was out of boot camp.
It is also a shame this DVD is in Full Screen only. I did a quick search at amazon (mostly out of curiosity) and it seems there is no widescreen version available. The DVD could of used some more extras as well. While I can see myself watching this one again.... it is not one I could see watching often. I decided to rate this DVD at a 3 out of five... if it was widescreen and had some more extras it would have gotten to a 3.5.

My Thoughts:
I been wanting to see this movie since the first time I saw a trailer for it. Every since then I have heard nothing but good things about it. So going into this one I was hoping I wasn't letting all the hype around this one get to me. I have always liked both Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank. And then there is of course Morgan Freeman who I think is also an amazing actor. After watching it I found this movie really has it all. Great talent... a storyline that is both exciting and moving. I found this movie to be nothing short of amazing! If you haven't seen this movie I definitely recommend it wholeheartedly!

My Thoughts:
I have always enjoyed Jackie Chan... I like how he combines Martial Arts and comedy. This is one I never even heard of until a friend of mine offered to send me a copy. And this one has a touch of the supernatural which is something else I always liked. There is also the plus of Julian Sands in this one. I always liked him in the Warlock movies. I enjoyed this movie... but at the same time it isn't one of the best Jackie Chan movies out there. Just an entertaining... silly movie.

Oh no. Oh, Pete... no. :slaphead:
The Medallion is terrible. I mean, it's really, really bad. Try The Tuxedo instead, for recent American Jackie Chan material, if you must, but there is no beating his Hong Kong stuff. Get Police Story and Drunken Master, then burn The Medallion in a special ceremony.
-
Never seen any of his Hong Kong stuff.
-
Never seen any of his Hong Kong stuff.
You should try. There is even some semi-American stuff, like Rumble in the Bronx (which should definitely be available with an English language track) which is better than this.
Problem is, Chan's movies are all about the stunts and fight scenes. So, more more he gets cut loose, the more exciting he can be. US insurances can't allow him to do all his crazy stuff, so it all looks often rather lame compared to the balls-out Hong Kong originals ;)
-
I thought that The Medallion was entertaining too...very silly and definitely not Chan's best, but entertaining.

I have Rumble in the Bronx... had it for years and thought it was a US movie. I was just given Rumble in Hong Kong... but afraid I don't have a very good copy of the movie. While profiling it I notice the video quality at least at the very beginning and very end was pretty hard to watch. (quality wise)

My Thoughts:
This is another title of the many given to me here in the last couple months. What to say about this movie. It is far from the best Western I ever seen... it is not something one can take seriously. But it definitely has something going for it. The beauty of Penélope Cruz and Salma Hayek. And this movie is something that.... while it is not what one would think of as a good movie... it is entertaining in a guilty pleasure type of way. It is not something I could see myself watching often... but I could see myself watching it again. Matter of fact... I am a bit curious about watching it with the commentary track on... which has Cruz & Hayek on the commentary.

I actually also own a copy of Bandidas but haven't seen it yet. I clearly bought it because of the two female leads and am not expecting something to rival such western classics as The Searchers or Stagecoach...

My Thoughts:
Felt like a bit of comedy... so popped this in. Unfortunately I found very little to laugh at in this one. I went in expecting a little more what with Martin Lawrence... but basically all I got is average entertainment at best. Getting no more then a chuckle or two out of the entire movie. Just a decent way to waste an hour and a half. If you watch this one don't go in expecting too much.

Plot:
Greenskeeper Carl Spackler is about to start World War III – against a gopher. Pompous Judge Smails plays to win but his nubile niece Lacey Underall wants to score her own way. Playboy Ty Webb shoots perfect golf by becoming the ball. And country club loudmouth Al Czervik just doubled a $20,000 bet on a 10-foot putt. Insanity? No. Caddyshack.
Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray and Ted Knight tee off for a side-splitting round of fairway foolishness that does for golf what National Lampoon's Animal House did for fraternities and Police Academy did for law enforcement. With hitmaker Harold Ramis (National Lampoon's Vacation, Analyze This) in the director's chair, the virtuoso comic skills of all four blend into a riotous hole-in-one for comedy fans. In Caddyshack, the term "golf nut" takes on a deranged double meaning – and nonstop laughter is par for the course!

My Thoughts:
This one I haven't seen in many years... so many years in fact that I really didn't remember the actual movie... just remembered I enjoyed it.This has an all-star cast of some great comedians. I really enjoyed all of them in it. But if I was to be completely honest... as much as I did enjoy this one (and I really did)... I thought I remembered it being a bit funnier then what it is. I don't know... maybe it just wasn't as good as I remembered... or maybe my taste has changed somewhat since I was in my teens (that is how long it has been since I seen this one!). But either way... it was a lot of fun seeing this one again.
