Both of those looked pretty good by the trailers. :)

Stars: Robert Downey, Jr. Jude Law Rachel McAdams Mark Strong Eddie Marsan Robert Maillet
Plot: The hangman did his job. Dr. Watson declared the condemned man dead...and yet Lord Blackwood has emerged from the tomb to assert his deadly will over 1890 London. Is he in league with the forces of hell itself? Is the whole Empire in peril? It's a mystery macabre – and only Sherlock Holmes can master it.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law put memorable imprints on Holmes and Watson in this bold new reimagining that makes the legendary sleuth a daring man of action as well as a peerless man of intellect. Baffling clues, astonishing Holmesian deductions, nimble repartee, catch-your-breath scenes on one slam thing after another – director Guy Ritchie helms the excitement reintroducing the great detective to the world. Meet the new Sherlock Holmes !
Extras: Scene Access Bonus Trailers Featurettes
My Thoughts: When I first saw the trailer for this movie I was nothing more then disappointed. So much so that I didn't even have an urge to see the movie. The trailer made it look like they changed Sherlock Holmes into a pure action character. Thankfully that was not the case in the movie. They did a great job of balancing the action and the classic deductive reasoning of the classic Sherlock Holmes. I am so glad that this movie was given to me... as I don't think I would have bothered buying it... and I have to admit that I loved every minute of it!
Now here is where I expect to get flamed... I think they could have done a better job at casting Sherlock Holmes. To me Robert Downey, Jr. was only OK... passable in the role. Robert Downey, Jr. has always been hit or miss in my opinion... as I disliked him in just as many roles (if not more) then I actually liked him in. And while he did a fine job in the role... something just didn't seem quite right for some reason. Unlike his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man which I felt he was outstanding in. I loved the rest of the cast in their roles... but it just seemed like something was off on the main character of the movie. But that didn't take much away from my enjoyment of the movie... as I said... I still loved every minute of it.

Well, I think you're on RDJ, but each to his own! What I did praise this film for was being the only time I could recall where the relationship between Holmes and Watson was done properly. Jude Law as Watson is great because he is an active and important part of the double-act in every way, often the superior of the two, rather than just being a mere assistant.
But then the bloody BBC have to come along and ruin it! ;) The pairing of Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson is arguably better in the new modern day set TV series. Other characters are better realised too, such as the modern equivalent of Le Strade.
It's difficult to judge whether those two are actually better than RDJ and Jude Law, because the movie dumbs down the mystery and their deductions in the name of entertainment. Again, that's something the new series does much better.
Here's a clip too. It starts abruptly, but really worth looking at about 1:50 in...

Oh I am sure I am in the minority when it comes to Robert Downey, Jr. I knew I would be while watching it. And I looked at past reviews... and seen every one of them praised him. So I knew as I typed it I would hear it about that! And I am sure I still will as more people read my review. :P

Stars: Lynda Carter Harold Gould Philip Sterling Dean Stockwell Sharon Farrell Lloyd Haynes
Plot: Lynda Carter is Kate Carlin, a caring social worker suddenly drawn into a horrid reality of underworld mayhem. Babies are bought from troubled teenagers and then are placed into the hands of unstable parents for a fee. As Kate investigates the businessman believed to be responsible, the band of villains working for him puts her life in danger. Threatened and manipulated, she jeopardizes her job desperately trying to crack the operation wide open.
Extras: N/A
My Thoughts: This movie is out of a boxset of old TV Movies that was recently given to me. A release called Life, Love and Romance. The first thing I noticed is that they didn't put too much time and effort into cleaning up the prints. I mean it wasn't terrible... but it was like watching a second generation VHS tape. The movie itself was pretty good. I definitely enjoyed it. And it was good to see Lynda Carter in another role. Though I must admit whenever I saw her character in trouble I half-heartedly expecting her to do her spin and turn into Wonder Woman.
The teen girl in this... the girl trying not to give up her baby... she looked familiar. The part is played by Donna Wilkes. Not a name that is very familiar to me. But Checking DVD Profiler I realized why she looked familiar to me. She was in an episode of The Incredible Hulk that I recently watched.

Stars: Sandra Bullock Ben Affleck Maura Tierney Steve Zahn Blythe Danner Ronny Cox
Plot: It's only two days before his wedding when Ben's (Ben Affleck) plane skids out of control, leaving him stranded in New York with no way home to his nervous fiancee in Savannah. Against his better judgment, the reliable groom-to-be hitches a ride with free-spirited traveler Sarah (Sandra Bullock)-setting off the year's most riotous road trip. At first, these two opposites attract nothing but trouble in a sidesplitting series of comic mishaps and unnatural disasters. But an irresistible attraction and the forces of nature threaten to detour them forever in this sexy, whirlwind adventure Jeffrey Lyons (WNBC-TV) declared, "a fun, hip ride"- one you'll never forget.

My Thoughts: I went into this one expecting much of nothing... as I have heard this is one of Sandra Bullock's worst movies. I am actually sitting here kind of surprised by that. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I wonder if some people don't care for it as much because it didn't end the way you would suspect in a romantic comedy. I personally liked that about it. Granted I liked Sandra Bullock's character the best... and I would have probably made the opposite decision... but I do like that it didn't go with the obvious ending. Not many romantic comedies do that. This one is not a laugh out loud funny movie... but it is definitely entertaining and lighthearted. Though going by the people I talked to at least... I am in the minority thinking so.

Agreed that it's not the best of all possible movies, but I too liked it. On the other hand that doesn't have to mean very much, I too liked "The Sweetest Thing", which is on several "Worst Film"-lists. :-[

My Thoughts: Here we have another movie I enjoyed a lot. I liked all the characters... and the story was more then interesting. It surprises me that this is based on a true story. That kid definitely had some guts. I thought that both Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio did a fine job in this one. I also enjoyed Christopher Walken. If you ever find yourself looking for an entertaining true story... you could definitely do worse then this one. I would recommend checking it out.

Is there an interview with the real Frank on your dvd? It's fascinating. His life was even crazier than depicted. They had to tone it down to make it work as a drama!

Stars: Sandra Bullock Jason Patric Willem Dafoe Temuera Morrison Brian McCardie Christine Firkins
Plot: Hold onto your life-jacket as the rip-roaring sequel to Speed hits the high seas. Sandra Bullock reprises her star-making role as Annie Porter, a young woman expecting to enjoy a Caribbean vacation with her boyfriend (Jason Patric) on the world's most luxurious cruise liner. But their trip to paradise turns deadly when a lunatic computer genius (Willem Dafoe) takes over the boat and sets it on a course for destruction. An explosive voyage helmed by daredevil director Jan De Bont (Speed, Twister), Speed 2: Cruise Control rides the wild waves at maximum velocity.
My Thoughts: While a decent movie... it is a bit of a letdown compared to part one. It is just missing that certain something the first one had. I do not care for the new leading man in this movie. Though Sandra Bullock is as lovely as always. And I definitely had to laugh at her taking the driving test at the beginning of the movie. It was a nice continuation from part one. Over all I am glad I have it in my collection... but I see myself watching part 1 much more then this one.

Stars: Samuel L. Jackson Rob Brown Robert Ri'chard Rick Gonzalez Nana Gbewonyo Antwon Tanner
Plot: Based on an incredible true story, Coach Carter is the inspirational account of controversial basketball coach Ken Carter (Academy Award® nominee SAMUEL L. JACKSON*), who received both high praise and staunch criticism when he made national news for a gymnasium "lockout" of his entire undefeated team for poor academic performance.
With the players, the parents, and the community rallying to get the team back on the court, Carter must overcome the obstacles of his environment and show the young men a future that stretches beyond gangs, drugs, prison and even basketball.
Co-starring pop-music icon ASHANTI, "Coach Carter will have you on your feet cheering for more." Earl Dittman, Wireless Magazine
* Actor in a Supporting Role, Pulp Fiction, 1994
Extras: Scene Access Bonus Trailers Deleted Scenes Featurettes Music Videos Closed Captioned
My Thoughts: This is one I enjoyed. It has a very good story. And it was a lot of fun watching all the basketball as well. When I first popped this one in I didn't notice the case said it was based on a true story... I didn't realize it until they started to give updates on all the characters at the end of the movie. That makes the movie that much more enjoyable. I thought Samuel L. Jackson was wonderful in the title role. If you haven't seen this one yet... I would recommend checking it out.

Which bit? :stars: :tease: I should say, that I love the first one. An absolute modern classic of the action genre.
Worst. Sequel. Ever. The bloody ship heading for the port reminded me of the Austin Powers joke with the steamroller...
They exchanged a dropping elevator, a bus that can't slow down below 50 AND a runaway subway train with a cruise ship...? ::) Just how lame is that?
"it is a bit of a letdown compared to part one." is a great understatement to how felt.

Stars: Dustin Hoffman Emma Thompson Eileen Atkins Kathy Baker Liane Balaban James Brolin
Plot: When it comes to love, is it ever too late to take a chance? Academy Award winners "Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson are perfect together in a movie that reminds us that true love, can indeed, come to those who wait" (Sandy Kenyon, WABC-TV).
"Utterly chamring, Hoffman and Thompson make a winning combo" (Lou Lumenick, New York Post) in Last Chance Harvey as two guarded strangers who find a growing connection with one another after a chance encounter in London. The chemistry between the pair inspires them both to believe in second chances as they unexpectedly transform each other's lives.
This "enormously entertaining love story" (Jeffrey Lyons, Reel Talk with Lyons and Bailes) from writer/diretor Joel Hopkins (Jump Tomorrow) co-stars Eileen Atkins (Gosford Park), Kathy Baker (Edward Scissorhands), James Brolin (Traffic) and Richard Schiff ("The West Wing").

My Thoughts: I decided to go with this movie next because today (Aug. 8th) is Dustin Hoffman's birthday. This one is definitely a pure drama. Which is not something I normally watch much of...as my attention tends to wander a bit for some reason. But this one is a pretty good story. Entertaining enough to keep my attention for the most part. I enjoyed both Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson here. Over all above average.

Stars: Denzel Washington Will Patton Wood Harris Ryan Hurst Donald Faison Craig Kirkwood
Plot: Academy Award® winner* Denzel Washington (The Hurricane) gives a victorious performance in this stirring and uplifting film. Based on a real-life drama, Remember The Titans is a rousing celebration of how a town torn apart by resentment, friction and mistrust comes together in triumphant harmony. The year is 1971. After leading his team to fifteen winning seasons, football coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton) is demoted and replaced by Herman Boone (Washington), tough, opinionated and as different from the beloved Yoast as he could be. How these two men overcome their differences, and turn a group of hostile young men into champions, plays out in a remarkable and triumphant story full of soul and spirit. You and your family will never forget the Titans.
My Thoughts: Another sports movie I enjoyed. And another one I didn't realize till today that it was based on a true story. This one has a good story... and I liked all the characters. And I thought Denzel Washington did a good job. I am glad I have this one added to my collection... can see myself watching it again sometime.
