Image: This is the Cake I want for my Birthday!... Who wants a piece?

Last month I watched a bunch of Superhero shows. This month... since it is the month I was born... I will be watching movies and TV Show episodes dealing with birthdays. This is something I do every year... but normally just for the week of my birthday (May 31st). But I have so many TV Show episodes dealing with birthdays now that I decided it was time to extend it to the entire month. I will not ONLY watch birthday related shows in May... but I want to get quite a bit watched. So I decided to set a goal for myself this year.

My Goal:
On May 31st I turn 43 years old... so I want to watch At Least 43 shows  (TV Eps. & Movies combined). Though I will be watching mainly TV Show episodes. This goal does have me worried though... as last year I only watched 18! That means I have to average about 1.4 shows per day for the entire month.

My Choices:
While I only have a small handful of movies that will work in this theme... I have a LOAD of TV episodes! I will not have to struggle to find stuff to watch!

Well today is the first day of the Birthday theme. Not only that but it is also the actual birthday of actress Julie Benz... and since I am a big fan I thought I would start with some birthday episodes she was in. This alone gives me up to 4 episodes I could watch today!

Series: Boy Meets World
Episode: s3e11. City Slackers
Who's Birthday: Amy Matthews (Corey & Eric's mother)
Plot:
Shawn and Cory steal the key to Mr. Feeny's cabin after he gives it to Amy and Alan for a romantic weekend. Meanwhile, Eric, Frankie, and Joey play a long game of pool.

My Thoughts:
This is a show I haven't watched in years. But this season 3 set was given to me not too long ago. Not only does this episode have a birthday in it (Corey & Eric's mother) but Julie Benz (who's real life birthday is today) has a role in this episode. She plays a teen girl that shows some interest in Eric. The episode itself really has very little to do with a birthday. Just mentioning it in the beginning of the episode (see image above). But it is a fun episode... with a couple good chuckles.

Series: No Ordinary Family
Episode: s1e7. No Ordinary Family
Who's Birthday: George St. Cloud (Friend of the family)
Plot:
Jim goes after a mobster who has plagued George for years, ignoring his friend's request to stay out of the case. Meanwhile, Stephanie disobeys Dr. King's wishes and tries to find out more about Volson's research, and Daphne asks JJ to use his powers to help her impress a boy.

My Thoughts:
Another episode with the lovely Julie Benz... as she was one of the stars of this series. There is more to the birthday in this episode then what was in the last. Including a surprise party... which was a lot of fun to watch... I really got a kick out of how excited Julie Benz's character got setting up the surprise party... and how giddy she was seeing the surprise on George's face... a fake surprise as he did know earlier. But was really fun scenes. And the rest of the episode is very good as well. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Series: Medium
Episode: s1e3. A Couple of Choices
Who's Birthday: Allison DuBois
Plot:
As Joe (Jake Weber) wonders how to plan a surprise party for his psychic wife, Allison is partnered with Detective Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) in order to hunt down a serial killer targeting young newlyweds.

My Thoughts:
This is another series that I loved from pilot episode to series finale. It made me a fan of Patricia Arquette. This is the episode that they first introduce Detective Scanlon... who remains a part of the show from this point on till the end of the series. The murder case is an interesting one... and the birthday scenes are a lot of fun to watch. Why would they even attempt to through a surprise birthday party for a psychic!

Series: Medium
Episode: s3e4 Ghost in the Machine
Who's Birthday: Joe DuBois
Plot:
After Allison gets Joe a camcorder for his birthday, her excitement turns to dread when she starts seeing disturbing images through it connected to a murder case.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. One I really enjoyed... but it is far from perfect. I mean come on... what is the chances that she ends up with the same camcorder that the murderer returned? I know I can usually suspend believability on such a thing... but it don't really feel quite right on this one. But other then that.. I enjoyed this one quite a lot.

Series: The Big Bang Theory
Episode: s1e16 The Peanut Reaction
Who's Birthday: Leonard
Plot:Leonard's birthday finds Wolowitz and Leonard in the ER and Penny and Sheldon sharing a shopping trip from hell.

My Thoughts:
Definitely one of my favorite current series. In this case the entire episode is centered around Leonard's birthday... it's not just a side storyline. Seeing Penny deal with Sheldon in the electronics store was a lot of fun... and I got a kick out of how they did Howard in the hospital (see pic above).

Who's Birthday: Marie DuBois
Plot:After she and Devalos are gunned down, Allison wakes up five years in the past. Now she must convince her boss to change his mind about a murder conviction.

Series: Medium
Episode: s6e21 Dead Meat
Who's Birthday: Joe DuBois
Plot: As Joe gets a special birthday present from Marie, Allison develops a relationship with a pig, hoping it will lead her to a missing animal rights activist.

My Thoughts:
While I still enjoyed it... I didn't care for this one as much as the previous episodes. I just didn't care much for the whole talking pigs thing. I did like the whole birthday side story. Which was a pretty decent amount of the episode this time. I thought the entire toy thing in this episode was a pretty cool idea.

Series: NCIS
Episode: s3e17 Ravenous
Who's Birthday: Abbey Sciuto
Plot: A serial killer is suspected of murder after a missing Marine's dog tags are discovered in a national forest.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. It has a good storyline... and a good pace. I had to laugh at Tony when he saw how that woman he was flirting with didn't shave (her armpit hair and leg hair was twice as long as mine!). He thought fast... and I don't blame him! This one works into the birthday theme because it is Abbey's (my favorite character!) birthday... and she is not happy... as she believe Gibbs (who she looks up to as a father figure) forgot her birthday throughout most the episode. The above picture is of Abbey, the goth forensic scientist, opening the gift Gibbs left when he snuck in her office when she wasn't looking. She opens it and says it is perfection... but we never get to know what it is he got her.

Series: That '70s Show
Episode: s3e17 Kitty's Birthday (That's Today?)
Who's Birthday: Kitty Forman
Plot: Eric and Red forgot Kitty's birthday. Kelso has a plan to win Jackie back.

My Thoughts:
While still a fun episode... I didn't care for it as much as most. I mean... square dancing?... come on! But it did have some funny moments worth seeing. And the side storyline wasn't bad either.

Series: Ghost Whisperer
Episode: s5e1 Birthday Presence
Who's Birthday: Aiden

Plot:
Melinda's life changes dramatically when she gives birth to a son who possesses a psychic ability that gives him a unique connection to the supernatural.

My Thoughts:
One of my all-time favorite episodes of one of my all time favorite TV Series. This episode cover's the actual Birth day of Melinda's son... as well as fast forwarding to his 5th birthday. I usually don't like time jumps in TV Series... but this one I felt was done very well and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Series: That '70s Show
Episode: s4e23 Hyde's Birthday
Who's Birthday: Hyde

Plot:
After Red grossly insults Hyde through a misunderstanding on his birthday, Kitty decides to throw him a real surprise party for his 18th, at neighbor Bob's place, but Steven seriously tries to make clear he doesn't want to celebrate the end of his youth, and may be moving out.

Plot:
In the season finale, Samantha is beginning to think that Chloe is using the sympathy card by saying her aunt is sick, just so Todd won't break up with her like he promised Samantha. Andrea and Regina are having several disagreements over how to plan Samantha's birthday party.

My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode of the first season. I enjoyed it more then I expected to actually. I kinda got a kick out of how they made this party to be her "first" birthday... since this is her first birthday since her amnesia.

My Thoughts:

Who's Birthday: Major Frank Burns

Plot:
Hawkeye starts a chain reaction of inter-Army bartering as he wheels and deals for a new pair of boots.

My Thoughts:
M*A*S*H... Always a fun series... and one I haven't watched any episodes in quite a while. In this episode the birthday storyline is really just a side thing as Hawkeye must promise to throw Frank Burns a birthday party to get a favor from Margaret in order to get the boots he needs. A god episode with several laughs.

Who's Birthday: Major Frank Burns

Plot:
While Radar enrolls in a writing school, Hawkeye and B.J. decide to make Frank happy on his birthday by pretending to be fighting with each other.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode that had several laughs in it. The birthday storyline was definitely more funny then the writing school stuff. It was kinda fun seeing Hawkeye and B.J. going at each other for a change... even if it all was (well mostly) acting to entertain Frank.

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Episode: s2e13 Surprise
Who's Birthday: Buffy

Plot:
Drusilla reassembles the Judge, an unstoppable demon; Buffy and Angel consummate their relationship.

My Thoughts:
The first Birthday episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a 2-part episode. And I think it is safe to say my favorite of the Buffy's Birthday episodes. What with it happening in season 2 (one of my favorite seasons of the series)... at the very beginning of what is probably my favorite Buffy storyline (Evil Angel). Naturally since it is a 2-part episode... there was no way I could only watch the first half... so I ended up watching both episodes.

Series: Lost
Episode: s1e18 Numbers
Who's Birthday: Claire

Plot:
Michael begins building a new raft. He tells Jack that the chances of them being found while they're on the raft will be increased if they can send out a distress signal. With the transceiver needing new batteries, Hurley remembers Sayid mentioning that the Frenchwoman had batteries. He suggests that they try and find her. While searching for Rousseau's lair, Hurley discovers that the island may be linked to a secret from his own past.

My Thoughts:
OK... this one may be a little of a stretch as the whole birthday storyline is one short scene where Claire tells Locke that it is her birthday as they work on a cradle for Claire's baby. But what can I say?... I recently started to watch this series and it has me so hooked I haven't been able to pull myself away from it to work on this marathon. At this rate I may not make my goal.

Series: I Love Lucy
Episode: s6e13 Lucy and Superman
Who's Birthday: Little Ricky

Plot:
Lucy promises Little Ricky that Superman (George Reeves) will be at his birthday party, but when it looks like he can't make it, she tries to fill the bill herself.

My Thoughts:
This has always been one of my favorite episodes of I Love Lucy. I guess this is because I also always been a fan of Adventures of Superman. It really is a hilarious episode. My favorite line in this episode is the very last in the episode...

Ricky: In all the 15 years we been married this is the craziest stunt you ever pulled!
Superman: Wait a minute, you been married to her for 15 years?
Ricky: Yeah, 15 years!
Superman: And they call me Superman!

 :hysterical:

As many times as I have seen this episode over the years—and there has been MANY times—I still can't help but to laugh out loud on that scene. As well as many other scenes for that matter. A great episode! But not only is that line funny... the expressing that comes over Lucy's face when he says it is just plain priceless. An all-around hilarious episode!

Who's Birthday: Chloe

Plot:
As Clark and Lois arrange a surprise 18th birthday party for Chloe, Lana receives a mysterious book that belonged to her French ancestor Isabel, who was burned as a witch in the 1600's. Through the book, Isabelle possesses Lana's body and she resurrects two other witches in the bodies of Chloe and Lois. The trio set about tracking down the Kryptonian Stones, spelling trouble for Jason, Lex and Clark.

Who's Birthday: Chloe

Plot:
The magician ZANTANNA makes wishes come true...but every wish has consequences. When Chloe wishes she can have an uncomplicated lide like Lois does, she becomes Lois. And Clark? He just wants to be normal.

My Thoughts:
This episode is better then I remember it being. It all starts with a birthday wish Chloe makes... in front of Zatana in her first appearance in Smallville. I have seen the whole switched bodies storyline many times before... so nothing really original here. But it is worth a watch. I did however like the way it ended... with Chloe discovering what she really wants and with the help of Oliver Queen starting up the Watchtower.

Now Discord, the newly appointed goddess of retribution, has given Xena until sunrise to find the killer or everyone she loves will be taken to the underworld.

My Thoughts:
The birthday storyline in this one is no more then a reason to get everyone together. It isn't the best episode I ever seen... but it is entertaining enough to keep your interest. Though it is one of the episodes that contains a bit of that silly comedy you see in many episodes.

Bruce Wayne's former love Talia al Ghul returns, to offer Bruce the chance to be eternally young. But this gift comes with a price Bruce has no intention of paying at all: the resurrection of Ra's al Ghul, Talia's father and one of Bruce's most dangerous enemies.

My Thoughts:
A good episode... I enjoyed it quite a bit. I kinda got a kick out of Terry taking Bruce to "Batman: The Musical". Don't he know  Bruce at all? This episode is also one of the few (at least that I remember) that we see Terry fight without the Batman costume on. Though it has been a while since I watched this series.

Well... I have a week from today to watch 22 shows. It can be done... but it won't be easy. But I haven't given up yet!

Series: Bewitched
Episode: s2e23 Double Tate
Who's Birthday: Darrin
Plot:
Unaware Endora's given him three wishes for his birthday, Darrin wishes he were Larry for a day and turns into an exact double of his boss.

My Thoughts:
This is a classic series I always enjoyed quite a bit. While not a favorite episode... it is enjoyable. Though I do enjoy most episodes more then this one. There just not as many laughs in this one.

Title: Sabrina: The Teenage Witch
Who's Birthday: Sabrina

Plot:
It's her 16th birthday, and Sabrina (MELISSA JOAN HART) is feeling a little strange. She just transferred to a new school, moved in with her two otherworldly aunts, and nothing is quite what it seems. Things can only get more complicated when Sabrina learns that she's a real witch. Now, she's got to make friends, memorize spells, and find a way to get a date for the school dance. It'll take a little hocus-pocus and a whole lot of adventure before Sabrina learns to control her powers and find true love.

My Thoughts:
This is the TV Movie that they did before it went to a series. While some of the cast is the same such as Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina... the cast for both aunts was different. This movie also has a very young Ryan Reynolds. An actor that has grown on me as I am now a fan of his. It is a pretty good movie... I enjoyed it though I did miss the cast that played the aunts in the TV Series. Unfortunately this DVD release has no extras what so ever. Not even any trailers. When you pop the movie in it goes straight to the menu with only 2 options... Play and Scene Selection.

Series: The Stockard Channing Show
Episode: s1e5 Life Begins at 30
Who's Birthday: Susan

Plot:
Susan has a hard time with the idea of turning 30.

My Thoughts:
This is a show that a good friend of mine gave to me. One I never seen before he gave it to me. But one I enjoyed much more then I thought I would. The set has 2 complete short lived sitcoms that Stockard Channing starred in. First there is Just Friends from 1979 and then there is The Stockard Channing Show from 1980. Both of which I enjoyed a lot. This birthday episode was a lot of fun. had several laugh out loud moments. It was hilarious seeing Susan (Stockard Channing) on rollerskates. Plus her short shorts didn't hurt any either.

Series: Charmed
Episode: s1e4 Dead Man Dating
Who's Birthday: Prue & Mark (The Ghost)

Plot:
Prue tries to avoid a birthday celebration as Piper befriends and saves the restless soul of a ghost who was murdered by a gang leader. The sisters save his soul and learn a valuable life lesson.

My Thoughts:
One of my favorite episodes of the series... I especially liked it since it was a big Piper episode. And Piper has always been my favorite of the sisters. I also liked the way they put some Chinese folk lore into the story line for this one. Not only do we have Pru's birthday in this episode... but also the ghost's birthday is talked of in the beginning of the episode. The side story of Phoebe trying to get some cash for Prue's present is a lot of fun too.

Series: Lost
Episode: s3e20 The Man Behind the Curtain
Who's Birthday: Ben

Plot:
Ben begrudgingly tells Locke some of the secrets of the island, beginning with the mysterious Jacob. Meanwhile, the secret of the parachute woman is revealed, and Juliet is exposed as a spy. Flashbacks to the 1970s show how Ben came to the island and give insights into the early history of the Dharma Initiative.

My Thoughts:
Towards the end of the third season... the series is getting a bit on the weird side now. But I am still enjoying it. This episode answers a lot of questions about Ben and The Dharma Experiment. But at the same time opens up more questions.

Title: Bloody Birthday
Who's Birthday: Debbie, Curtis & Steven

Plot:
In 1970, three children were born during the height of a total eclipse of Saturn, the planet governing emotion. Ten years later these seemingly innocent children have become heartless killers able to move around under the radar of suspicion because of their youthful facades. What happens when a teenage girl and her younger brother stumble upon the horrible truth?

My Thoughts:
I remember really enjoying this one back in my early teens when it first came out. I can't say it is quite as good as I remember it being. But I definitely enjoyed every minute of it. Of course I do have a soft spot for '80s horror... after all they are the movies I grew up watching.

Sure, evil children has been done to death. Some probably done better then this one. And more times then not it seems to have to do with an eclipse when the children was born. But that don't take away from the fact that this one is good. It has some creative kills (gotta love the arrow through the peephole!) and a good story. I am so glad I finally found this movie again... and the fact that it cost me less then $4.00 is icing on the Bloody Birthday cake. While I really can't complain... I do wish this one had more extras on the disc.

Title: Happy Birthday to Me
Who's Birthday: Virginia Wainwright

Plot:
Get ready for a taut mystery-shocker that will keep you at your wit's end and at the edge of your seat.

Popular high school senior Virginia Wainwright (Melissa Sue Anderson) survives a freak accident, but suffers from memory loss and traumatic blackouts. As she attempts to resume a normal life, something terrible is happening — her friends are ruthlessly murdered one-by-one. Will she be the next victim or is she the killer? The terrifying truth is finally uncovered at Virginia's 18th birthday party...and you're invited.

My Thoughts:
My wife used to drive me nuts always watching Little House on the Prairie before she passed away... so Melissa Sue Anderson is very familiar to me from that.I found this movie to be very good... I really enjoyed it. I have to say... I got a kick out of that bridge game they played towards the beginning of the movie. I think Melissa Sue Anderson did a very good job on this movie. I grew up with '80s horror... and definitely watched quite a bit of it. I would rank this one high on the list of the many movies I remember watching at the time. I found some... if not most of the killings to be really imaginative.

The DVD release could have definitely been better. Especially that cover art! Why they didn't use the movie poster for the cover art I will never understand. And there is actual no extras what so ever on this disc concerning this movie. Not even the theatrical trailer. I would  have loved to seen a few extras here. Some deleted scenes... commentary... pretty much anything that was actually about the movie. But no such luck.

Title: Rabid Grannies
Who's Birthday: Victoria & Elizabeth (The Grannies)

Plot:
Grannies are the greatest.
They bake pies, tell stories and take you to the zoo. They don't ask for an arm and a leg in return.
THEY WANT YOUR WHOLE BODY!

It's off to grandmother's house we go for Rabid Grannies, the blood-spattered tale of two little old ladies who open a surprise package from Hell. Out slithers a mysterious fog that turns the grannies into ghouls who can't wait to sink their dentures into human flesh. Luckily for them, they have a houseful of juicy guests. Unluckily for their guests, these bone-crunching battle-axes just can't get filled up.

Rabid Grannies - these biddies bite

My Thoughts:
How is this movie? Well... what can you expect from a Troma movie? Nothing much! This one may be a bit better then some of the Troma movies I have seen... but that isn't saying much. In this one the entire "family" shows up for the grannies birthday celebration. All of them only showing up to ensure their inheritance. One of their birthday presents ends in the grannies being possessed by demons. Let me tell you... in this one I had a hard time even getting to the birthday party scene. Really... there is nothing much to see here.

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Episode: s3e12 Helpless
Who's Birthday: Buffy

Plot:
Buffy feels weak and is unable to carry out her duties as a slayer. When she goes to Giles for help he seems distracted. This is because he is, on the orders of the Watcher's Council, preparing her for the Cruciamentum, a test the Watchers put each slayer through on her eighteenth birthday. She must be weakened and left alone to beat a vampire, to test her resourcefulness.

My Thoughts:
This is another great episode of Buffy. One I have enjoyed quite a bit every time I seen it. Though I must say it doesn't live up to the season 2 birthday episode... though it is close. I thought the test they put Buffy through was an entertaining idea. I must admit the first time I watched this episode I was pretty pissed at Giles myself.

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Episode: s4e12 A New Man
Who's Birthday: Buffy

Plot:
At Buffy's 19th birthday party, Giles has a realization. He is an unemployed, middle-aged man hanging around with a bunch of teenagers. He feels even worse when he finds out that he is the only one who doesn't know about Riley and the Initiative. Feeling useless and insecure, he runs into Ethan Rayne, but the confrontation ends in drinks at the local pub rather than the usual fisticuffs. The next morning, Giles looks in the mirror and sees a massive Fyarl demon looking back at him.

My Thoughts:
This has never been one of my favorite episodes. I would say it is somewhere between fair and good. For one thing I never liked the character of Ethan Rayne. He is one character that really bored me. Thankfully you only see him a couple times throughout the series. Though it was fun to see Giles as a demon unable to communicate with the gang.

Episode: s5e6 Family
Who's Birthday: Tara

Plot:
Tara inadvertently puts everyone in danger when she secretly casts a spell on her friends after her family arrives in Sunnydale to celebrate her birthday.

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Episode: s5e13 Blood Ties
Who's Birthday: Buffy

Plot:
The Scooby Gang discusses plans for Buffy's birthday and dealing with Glory. Giles reveals that Glory is the god of a demon dimension and in order to stay in human form, she needs to suck energy from humans, leaving them insane. The gang starts asking questions about The Key and Buffy finally breaks down and tells them the truth about Dawn.

My Thoughts:
A good episode. This season with Glory is a good season... but not what I would call a favorite. I liked how Michelle Trachtenberg portrayed Dawn in this episode... where she finds out the truth about herself. And even though I didn't care as much for this season as I did some of them... I must admit all the fights with Glory (including the one in this episode) were always good.

Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Episode: s6e14 Older and Far Away
Who's Birthday: Buffy

Plot:
When Dawn feels that nobody wants to spend time with her, she makes a wish in front of a Vengeance demon (posing as school counselor) that everyone would stay with her. During Buffy's birthday party, Dawn's penchant for shoplifting is discovered while the gang tries to figure out why nobody is able to leave the house.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this episode quite a bit too. The way none of the birthday parties on Buffy goes well.... makes for a fun show. It seemed like a couple of the characters was in this one for little to no reason. Guess they were basically just brought in to beef up the guest list at the party some. This is the last Buffy episode I have marked that has something to do with birthdays. It seems there wasn't one in the final season of the series? Or am I missing any?

Episode: s2e3 In the Dark
Who's Birthday: Tru

Plot:
When the lights go out during a surprise birthday party in the morgue, Tru hears someone asking for help-but due to the darkness, she has no idea who needs to be saved.

My Thoughts:
This is one of my all-time favorite short lived TV Series. Matter of fact... I am still upset with FOX for canceling this series! I know a lot of people that loved this series... and I know a lot of people that hated it. I just happen to be one that absolutely loved it. This happens to be one of my favorite episodes. I really enjoyed it a lot. The fact that she didn't know who it was that called her name really added something to the episode.  Gave it a bit extra mystery. And definitely a harder job for Tru.

Who's Birthday: Sabrina

Plot:

My Thoughts:
This is more like it. These are the characters I think of when I think of Sabrina: The Teenage Witch. I enjoyed this pilot episode even more then the TV Movie that came before it. It just felt like a better start for the series. I mean the movie was good for what it was. But this is much better for a TV Series in my opinion. After watching the pilot episode again... My Thoughts:
This episode really didn't impress me all that much. The birthday theme was very little this time. It was mentioned in one scene then the theme itself was shown in another scene. Title: 13 Going on 30
Who's Birthday: Jenna

Plot:
Jennifer Garner (Daredevil, TV's "Alias") and Mark Ruffalo (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) star in this hilarious flash-forward romance about a pre-teen girl who goes from geek to glamorous. With the help of some magic wishing dust, 13 year-old Jenna Rink (Garner) becomes 30 and gorgeous overnight, with everything she ever wanted, except for her best friend Matt (Ruffalo). Now, this grown woman must create some magic of her own to help the little girl inside find the true love she left behind.

My Thoughts:
I felt like popping in a movie this morning... and felt like a comedy so grabbed this one. I been a fan of Jennifer Garner's every since I first caught her on Alias. This is a fun movie. Like in the movie Big we have a character that makes a wish to be grown up. Jennifer Garner does a great job playing a teen girl trapped in a grown woman's body. Some of the expressions on her face... especially in the beginning where she don't know what is going on... is completely hilarious. I definitely enjoyed this one. Well worth the time to put into it.
