Title: Month-Long Horror/Halloween Marathon
Post by: addicted2dvd on October 01, 2007, 11:54:56 AM
Month-Long Horror/Halloween Marathon
It is that time a year once again... my favorite time of year... Halloween is right around the corner... and my annual horror/Halloween marathon is here! I have 2 goals for this month-long marathon. First is to watch at least 1 horror movie, horror TV Series Episode or Halloween episode of any TV Series per day for all 31 days of October. The second goal is to beat my record of horror movies I watched within one month. My record stands at 63 (from 2 years ago)... so I must watch at least 64 movies this October. OK... on to the good stuff!

October 1st

Title: Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave
Movie Count: 1
TV Ep Count: 0
Time Started: 4am
Plot:
A college student finds a canister in his uncle's attic that contains a drug more potent than Ecstasy. When word of the drug, nicknamed "Z" for its Zombie-like hallucinogenic effects, reaches unscrupulous college drug dealer Skeet, he hatches a plan to sell the drug to ravers attending the ultimate rave party. But when the drug's side effects start to kick in, the ultimate rave turns into the ultimate grave as party goers drop to their death...then rise again to feed!

My Thoughts:
This is the fifth movie in the Return of the Living Dead series... and unfortunately it shows it. Even though I did enjoy this movie... it is just not up to par with the other 4.  I was nervous when I bought the 4th one (Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis) but ended up enjoy that one very much.... so that ended up giving me a little false hope that it would continue to be so. But unfortunately for me... this is the movie where the series ultimately went down hill. I did enjoy it enough where if there ends up being another one I will give it a chance... but I won't be expecting much from it. The only extras on this disc is a collection of trailers.

Title: Tower of Terror
Movie Count: 2
TV Ep Count: 0
Time Started: 6:30am
Plot:
Big-screen stars Steve Guttenberg ('Three Men And A Little Lady') and Kirsten Dunst ('Drop Dead Gorgeous') encounter a host of haunts in this delightfully spooky mystery! Buzzy Crocker (Guttenberg) is a hard-luck photojournalist whose unexpected encounter with an old woman leads him to investigate an unexplained, decades-old disappearance. It seems that one Halloween night, many years ago, five partygoers vanished in the elevator of the Hollywood Tower Hotel...and ever since, their ghosts have remained trapped inside the dilapidated old building! In an action-filled story that delivers creepy fun for everyone, Buzzy ultimately teams with his niece (Dunst) to solve the mystery while managing to save their lives and capture the biggest story of the year!

My Thoughts:
Since my daughter, Brittany (11 years old) is home sick from school today... and her knowing I started my marathon early this morning... she asked me if we can watch one of her favorite horror/Halloween movies. That of course being Tower of Terror. How can I say no to a sick little girl? Anyway... this is a cute little light-horror spook-tacular from Disney that is made with the entire family in mind. If you want to have a fun family oriented Halloween movie to show your young ones at some time this month... you can do a lot worse then this entertaining little gem.

Title: The Monster Squad
Movie Count: 3
TV Ep Count: 0
Time Started: 8:30am
Plot:
You know who to call when you have ghosts, but who do you call about monsters? Whether it’s a bat in your belfry or a mummy in your microwave, THE MONSTER SQUAD ain’t afraid of no ghouls!
Count Dracula has until midnight to retrieve an ancient amulet that will give him final control over the delicate balance between good and evil in the world. To help him, the creepy count calls on some old friends: the weird Wolfman, grotesque Gill-Man, mildewed Mummy and freaky Frankenstein. As the ghoulish group gets closer to the amulet, it’s up to THE MONSTER SQUAD, headquartered in the local tree house, to pool its questionable resources and stop the monster mayhem!

My Thoughts:
Brittany enjoyed watching the last movie with me so much that she asked if she could watch another movie with me. So I thought I would take that opportunity to watch a show from my teen years I thought she would enjoy.  Of course another light-horror... actually a Comedy-Horror in my opinion... one I haven't seen in many years... so watching it today was like watching it again for the first time. And I must say.. this movie really held up well for me... I enjoyed every second of it. As did Brittany.

Title: Masters of Horror: We All Scream for Ice Cream
Movie Count: 3
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 10:30am
Plot:
'William Forsythe' of THE DEVIL'S REJECTS stars as Buster The Clown, a mentally challenged man who sells ice cream from his Cherry Tyme truck untill a cruel prank by a bunch of neighborhood boys goes horrifically wrong. A generation later they are all grown men with families, but the crime of their past may now be trolling for their children: Buster and his truck has returned for sweet revenge, and every frozen treat will bring it's own taste of Hell. 'Lee Tergesen' (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING) co-stars in this tasty chiller adapted by 'spatterpunk' writer 'David J. Schow' (THE CROW) from the short story by best-selling author 'John Farris" (THE FURY).

My Thoughts:
This is one of the episodes in my collection I have never seen before. Now that I watched it I would have to say it was not what I would consider a great episode. I would say it is decent at best.  Going by the preview of this episode I was hoping for more then what it actually was. It wasn't really that it was all bad... and I can see myself eventually watching it again... just won't be that high up on my Masters of Horror list. As always... it has a good amount of extras included with this disc.

Title: Darkwolf
Movie Count: 4
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 1:30pm
Plot:
A new breed of horror roams the streets of Los Angeles. It's the Darkwolf, a vicious werewolf with a thirst for blood - and lust for Josie, a sexy, unsuspecting woman with a mysterious power she is only beginning to understand. Once the Darkwolf catches Josie's scent, nothing can stop his insatiable hunger to mate with her...and he'll kill anyone who gets in his way!

My Thoughts:
Darkwolf was a blind buy I bought earlier this month at Wal-Mart for only $5. Over all I would say that this one is a decent werewolf movie... but is far from the best I have seen.  There is some pretty cool werewolf attacks in the movie... but the special effects leaves much to be desired... especially the transformations from human to werewolf... where they literally... and on a couple most obviously was pure CGI work... and not very good CGI at that. The couple that was most obvious literally showed the transformation with a computer animation! Yes... it literally looked like a cartoon done with the computers. What is with that!?! A word of warning for those of you that don't care for it in the movies. This movie is pretty much loaded with nudity. I know that some on at least 1 yahoo group I will be sending this to will want to know that ahead of time. Lets say... if you are curious about this movie... grab it now at walmart while you can still get it for only $5.00... because if I would have spent any more then that I would have really been disappointed.

Title: Scary Movie 4
Movie Count: 5
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 6pm
Plot:
The 'Scary Movie' gang is back for their funniest, most fearless installment yet, featuring an avalanche of hysterical celebrity cameos, including Carmen Electra, Charlie Sheen, Dr. Phil, Shaquille O'Neal, and Lil' John, plus many more fun surprises! This time, the lovable, dim-witted Cindy (Anna Faris) and her overheated pal Brenda (Regina Hall) return to help clueless hero Tom (Craig Bierko) save the world from a ruthless alien invasion. In true 'Scary Movie' tradition, the story weaves through a series of hilarious and twisted parodies of movies like 'War of the Worlds', 'The Grudge', 'The Village', and 'Saw'. In 'Scary Movie 4', nothing - and we mean NOTHING - is off limits!

My Thoughts:
Another one that was a complete blind buy. But wasn't too concerned since I liked the other 3 in the series. This horror spoof was much more of what you got with the last installment... I personally really enjoyed it. I thought it was cool how they weaved the main the movies together... spoofing War of the Worlds, The Grudge and Saw. It really was just plain fun to me.

Title: The Wolf Man
Movie Count: 6
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 7:45am
Plot:
The original horror classic that introduced one of the screen's most infamous monsters! Lon Chaney, Jr. portrays Larry Talbot, who returns to his father's (Claude Rains) castle in Wales and meets a beautiful woman (Evelyn Ankers). One fateful night, Talbot escorts her to a local carnival where Jenny's fate is revealed by a mysterious gypsy fortune teller. The dreamlike atmospheres and elaborate settings combined with a chilling musical score make 'The Wolf Man' a masterpiece not only of the genre, but for all time!

My Thoughts:
This one has to be my favorite of the Classic Universal Monster Movies. (Actually probably a tie between this one and Dracula). I have watched this movie countless times since first discovering it.  This is the movie that made me a fan of Lon Chaney, Jr. Since my daughter, Brittany is still home sick from school I let her watch it with me. I am proud to say she has never been against a movie just because it is old... or in black and white. That is one of my mistakes I made sure she learned from. This DVD is from within the Universal's Classic Monster Boxset which contained 8 of the classic monster movies including The Wolf Man, The Mummy, Phantom of the Opera, Invisible Man, Frankenstein, Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Each one with a nice collection of extras.

Title: Hell Asylum
Movie Count: 7
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 10:30am
Plot:
A desperate producer faced with unemployment has the ultimate reality television program ready to roll. "Chill Challenge" sends five sexy models into a haunted old building where years earlier an eccentric millionaire had kidnapped a handful of unsuspecting women in an effort to force them to be his brides. The idea is simple: Spend a night without leaving and walk away with a cool million bucks! But what these sultry gals don't realize is, as they reveal their deepest, darkest fears to the probing eye of the camera, someone or something is using those fears against them! They are sent into the house alone, one at a time, to confront their nightmares...and an abomination that will kill them all!

My Thoughts:
Hell Asylum is 1 of 4 low budget horror movies in the boxset "Haunted by the Past".  And I mean this is LOW BUDGET! I didn't think much of this one... besides the low budget effects and amateurish acting look and feel to the whole movie... the storyline... even though thought had potential wasn't followed through upon. So Move Away... Nothing to see here!

Title: Witchouse 3: Demon Fire
Movie Count: 8
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 12pm
Plot:
Annie is a timid young woman in an abusive relationship. After a particularly nasty incident, she flees to the safety of the beach house occupied by her two old friends, Steve and Rose -- who happen to be in the middle of shooting a documentary on witchcraft. When the three girls decide to stage a fake séance for the project, they accidentally unleash something sinister. Soon the girls are haunted by visions of a demonic witch with mysterious intentions...or maybe Annie's abusive boyfriend is just seeking his own personal revenge? What begins as a creepy game of cat-and-mouse soon turns fatal as dead bodies begin to pile up...and one of them will reveal a grim secret that unlocks the mystery behind the resurrection of the witch known as Lilith!

My Thoughts:
Also a part of the "Haunted by the Past" boxset. This movie is actually the reason I bought this boxset. I have... and enjoyed the first 2 Witchouse movies.... but never seen the 3rd one. so When I spotted this set of 4 movies for only $5.99 I figured even if I only like the one movie... it will be worth the price. After watching it.... I have to say it is my least favorite of the Witchouse movies... but It was good enough that I am not sorry that I bought the set. I would have been disappointed if I paid more for it. but at the cheap price I got it for... no problems. Though if you watch these movies... I would suggest stopping at part 2... unless you get part 3 very cheap.

Title: The Relic
Movie Count: 9
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 3:30pm
Plot:
Come in - if you dare. The opening-night gala for a new exhibit at Chicago's natural history museum is under way, but be advised: something terrifying wants to make sure no one ever leaves.

Penelope Ann Miller, Tom Sizemore, Linda Hunt and James Whitmore star in this effects-packed shocker that gives haunted-house movies a terrific new setting. And the non-human star (brought to head-ripping life by 'Jurassic Park' Oscar® winner Stan Winston) is something no creature fan can let slip by.

"The creature can hold its own with the 'Alien'," writes 'Chicago Tribune' critic Gene Siskel. "When the last reel begins... the special effect is truly awesome." Let the panic begin.

My Thoughts:
This is another movie I got at Walmart during their $5 sale. This is a good... not great... but definitely a good monster movie. I have seem this one before... but it has been many years since I saw it... so it was like watching it again for the very first time. The DVD only has the Theatrical Trailer as an extra... but it is well worth grabbing.. especially if you can get it before the Walmart sale is over.

Title: Cube: Signature Series
Movie Count: 10
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 10:30am
Plot:
Six ordinary strangers awaken to find themselves in a seemingly endless maze of interlocking cubical chambers armed with lethal booby traps. Without food or water, they have only a few days to live. None of them knows how or why they've been imprisoned, but soon discover that each possesses a skill that could contribute to their escape. As they work together to extricate themselves from their claustrophobic cell, one thing becomes painfully clear -- unless they learn to cooperate to solve the secrets of this deadly trap, none of them has very long to live.

My Thoughts:
This is a movie I originally saw on the Sci-Fi Channel a long time ago. It quickly became one of my favorites.  When I found it on DVD I was quick to order it. This was before the Signature Series came out... and for some strange reason... this one... I was never able to part with the original release. This movie definitely has it's share of gore in it... but it has much more then that... shows what people are capable of in the name of survival. And you better believe... some of it is not pretty.

Title: Maximum Overdrive
Movie Count: 11
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 7am
Plot:
When a mysterious comet passes close to Earth, machines everywhere suddenly take on murderous minds of their own. Soon, video games, cash machines, drawbridges, and steamrollers all go on a psychotic killing spree of global rebellion. But when the Dixie Boy Truck Stop is held hostage by a mob of homicidal 18-wheelers, human vengeance goes into overdrive. Who made who? And who will survive the final showdown of man vs. bloodthirsty machine?

My Thoughts:
This is one of my favorites from the '80s. Also a Stephen King movie which of course I love. There is a lot of inventive kills and injuries conflicted on people in this movie. There is a small under-tone of comedy in some of the scenes as well. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Oh no you didn't. Pete, what are you doing? Maximum Overdrive? A favourite of the 80s?  :o

Easily one of the very worst films I have ever seen. It is the one where the trucks trap the people in the petrol station? Half the film was the trucks driving around and around and around and ar...  you get what I mean. Oh my word!

Are you saving the good stuff for the latter half of the month? Duel should be vehicular horror of choice.

LOL... I don't know... I always enjoyed it. But to be honest... I never seen Duel... so couldn't compare them.

But as I have said many times before (not sure if I have here or not) I seem to be more forgiving on horror movies then most people... as I tend to enjoy a LOT of horror films that most people don't care for at all.

Never? Seen? Duel?  :o Well, when you do (not "if", "when"!) I reckon you will drop to your knees and beg forgiveness before trying to set fire to your Maximum Overdrive DVD.

Tch. You'll be saying you've never seen Jaws next...  :tease:

Title: The Lost Boys
Movie Count: 12
TV Ep Count: 1
Time Started: 3pm
Plot:
Sam and his older brother Michael are all-American teens with all-American interests. But after they move with their mother to peaceful Santa Carla, California, things mysteriously begin to change. Michael's not himself lately. And Mom's not going to like what he's turning into.

My Thoughts:
This is one of my old favorite Vampire Movies. Vampires is my favorite type of horror movie. This is the movie that made me a fan of Keifer Sutherland. I thought he did an awesome job in it. I also liked Jason Patric as Michael. I have seen this movie countless times... and just recently upgraded the DVD to the 2-Disc Special Edition. Think this is only the second time I have watched it since upgrading though.

Title: Roseanne: Halloween Edition - Boo
Movie Count: 12
TV Ep Count: 2
Time Started: 5pm
Plot:
In this Emmy-nominated fan favorite, the Conners kick off a family tradition with a night of increasingly outrageous pranks.

My Thoughts:
This episode  is just plain hilarious! I love all the jokes they play on each other... They do Halloween episodes on Roseanne the way I always wanted to celebrate Halloween! I loved the joke Dan played on Roseanne and Jackie... with the fake blood on his hand... I think it was the best joke in the whole episode. This is the first Halloween episode the did on Roseanne... was done in the second season.

Title: Halloween
Movie Count: 13
TV Ep Count: 2
Time Started: 8:30am
Plot:
Fifteen years ago, Michael Myers brutally massacred his sister. Now, after escaping from a mental hospital, he's back to relive his grisly crime again, and again...and again..

My Thoughts:
This is of course a classic horror that I must watch every year around this time. I normally like to save the Halloween movies for Halloween day... but the urge hit me really early this month. I am planning on saving at least 1 (of the 4) that I have for Halloween day. This is of course the one that started it all... and finding out from one of the featurettes on the disc... a movie that was shot very quickly and cheaply. You would never know it watching the movie. I feel they all did an awesome job on this movie!/b]

Title: Cheerleader Camp
Movie Count: 14
TV Ep Count: 2
Time Started: 10:30am
Plot:
Welcome to Camp Hurrah, where a psycho killer is slaughtering high school cheerleaders on the eve of the all-state finals. Drive-in goddesses 'Betsy Russell' (PRIVATE SCHOOL, AVENGING ANGEL) and 'Lucinda Dickey' (BREAKIN' 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO) star with former teen idol 'Leif Garrett' in this bouncing, bleeding bonanza of B-movie goodness featuring graphic violence, gratuitous nudity, bad rapping and more from the glory days of late '80s splatter. This is CHEERLEADER CAMP!

Playboy centerfold 'Rebecca Ferratti', Penthouse Pet 'Krista Pflanza' and Playboy centerfold-turned-hardcore-porn queen 'Teri Weigel' co-star in this slasher fan favorite also known as BLOODY POM POMS. CHEERLEADER CAMP has been newly transferred from the original negative and is now presented completely uncut and uncensored!

My Thoughts:
I was definitely NOT impressed. This is pure low-budget cheese... which is ok sometimes... but with this one I found myself struggling to stay awake through the entire movie.  I really didn't feel like I cared for any of the characters. But I will say there was a decent kill or 2 in the movie... so it isn't like it was all bad... just mostly bad... yes I have seen worse... but not many! Oh well... can't win 'em all.

Title: Roseanne: Halloween Edition - Trick or Treat
Movie Count: 14
TV Ep Count: 3
Time Started: 6pm
Plot:
When Roseanne wears a lumberjack costume, she learns a few hilarious lessons about 'real' men.

My Thoughts:
Another fun Halloween Episode of Roseanne... Roseanne in the Lobo dressed as a man was just hilarious.

Title: Roseanne: Halloween Edition - Trick Me Up, Treat Me Down
Movie Count: 14
TV Ep Count: 4
Time Started: 6:30pm
Plot:
Jackie flirts with a moose, Roseanne pranks the new neighbors and George Clooney guest stars.

My Thoughts:
Another fun Halloween Episode of Roseanne... Among everything else... my favorite part of this episode had to be the act that Roseanne and Dan put together for the lodge party. It was a lot of fun... and got in some good jokes on their friends.

Title: Roseanne: Halloween Edition - Halloween IV
Movie Count: 14
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 7pm
Plot:
Having lost her holiday spirit, Roseanne is visited by the ghosts of Halloween past, present and future.

My Thoughts:
Another fun Halloween Episode of Roseanne... This is an episode that for some reason I seldomly saw before getting this DVD. For some reason I was never able to catch this episode much on the reruns. Which is a shame... since it is one of my favorite Halloween episodes of all the ones they done!

Title: A Nightmare on Elm Street
Movie Count: 15
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 10am
Plot:
From modern horror master Wes Craven ('Scream', 'Scream 2') comes a timeless shocker that remains the standard bearer for terror.

Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) is having grisly nightmares. Something monstrous wants to kill her. Meanwhile, her high-school friends, who are having the very same dream, are being slaughtered in their sleep by the hideous fiend of their shared nightmare. When the police ignore her explanation, she herself must confront the killer in his shadowy realm.

Featuring John Saxon ('Enter The Dragon') and Johnny Depp in his first starring role and mind-bending special effects, this horror classic gave birth to one of the most infamous undead villains in cinematic history. Reportedly naming Freddy Krueger after a kid who had bullied him in school, writer-director Craven hatches a shock-fest from hell that "goes straight to the heart of terror" ('Seattle Times').

My Thoughts:
This is of course the first... and in my opinion... the best of the "Nightmare" movies. I think this is the only one that truly tried to scare you. I feel starting with part 3 (I think) the series of movies went more to a dark comedy mixed in with the horror. This one of course has a very young Johnny Depp in an "Introducing" credit. I have watched this movie countless times... and I still haven't tired of it!

Title: A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
Movie Count: 16
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 12pm
Plot:
Five years have passed since Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) was sent howling back to hell. But now, a new kid on Elm Street is being haunted every night by gruesome visions of the deadly dream stalker. And if his twisted soul takes possession of the boy's body, Freddy will return from the dead to wreak bloody murder and mayhem upon the entire town.

When 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' made a killing, horror fans shrieked for more. Soon the diabolic Freddy was resurrected with a vengeance - along with some of the most terrifying special effects ever to splatter the screen. Look for Robert Englund minus his Freddy face in the opening sequence. He's a real scream!

My Thoughts:
OK... usually I still enjoy the second movie in a series almost as much as the first one. Even though I do still feel this is a decent movie... it is my least favorite of the Elm Street movies. I can't even place my finger on what it is that I don't care for... just something about this one that didn't sit well with me.

Title: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Movie Count: 17
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 3:30pm
Plot:
Born the bastard son of a hundred maniacs, demented killer Freddy Krueger is back for fresh victims in this hallucinatory shocker co-written by original creator Wes Craven ('Scream', 'Scream 2').

The last of the Elm Street kids are now at a psychiatric ward where Freddy haunts their dreams with unspeakable horrors. Their only hope is dream researcher and fellow survivor Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp of the original 'Nightmare'), who helps them battle the supernatural psycho on his own hellish turf.

Starring Patricia Arquette ('Ed Wood', 'True Romance') and Academy Award®-nominee Laurence Fishburne ('The Matrix', 'Hoodlum') and directed by Chuck Russell ('The Mask', 'Eraser'), "'Dream Warriors' is both a horrific and hysterical trip!" ('L.A. Herald-Examiner').

My Thoughts:
This is another of my favorite "Nightmare" movies. I love all the things the kids learned they could do in their dreams. Plus this one has one of my favorite actresses in it... Patricia Arquette. I have been a fan of hers since the first time I saw her TV Series "Medium".

Title: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
Movie Count: 18
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 5:30pm
Plot:
Proving there's no rest for the wicked, the unspeakably evil Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) is again resurrected from the grave to wreak havoc upon those who dare to dream. But this time, he faces a powerful new adversary!

As her friends succumb one by one to Freddy's wrath, telepathically gifted Kristen embarks on a desparate mission to destroy the satanic dream stalker and release the tortured souls of his victims once and for all.

Directed by Renny Harlin ('The Long Kiss Goodnight', 'Cliffhanger') and loaded with killer effects and drop-dead humor, this is a "superior horror picture that balances wit and gore with imagination and intelligence" ('Los Angeles Times').

My Thoughts:
And one more "Nightmare" film for today. I will do my best to finish off the series tomorrow. At this point the series is still going strong for me. I am enjoying every minute of it as I type this. If you haven't seen this series of movies I highly recommend the entire series!

Title: A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
Movie Count: 19
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 5:30am
Plot:
Freddy Krueger returns to deliver a whole new breed of terror in his most fiendishly perverse frightfest yet!

Unable to overpower the Dream Master who vanquished him in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 4', Freddy (Robert Englund) haunts the innocent dreams of her unborn child and preys upon her friends with sheer horror. Will the child be saved from becoming Freddy's newest weapon or will the maniac again resurrect his legacy of evil?

For this eye-popping installment, director Stephen Hopkins ('Lost in Space', 'Predator 2') enlisted make-up wizard David Miller ('The Terminator'), original creator of Freddy's hideous visage. The result: a face not even a mother could love, and terror beyond your wildest nightmares!

My Thoughts:
This is another installment I really liked a lot... thought it was very smart how they made it so he was using an unborn baby's dreams to get at everyone. I must say though... other then part 2... this is the group of teens I cared about the least. I don't know... there just wasn't any kids in this one I could relate to... nothing like me... nothing like any of the kids I knew in school. but as I said... despite that... this is a very good installment... I enjoyed every minute of it.

Title: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
Movie Count: 20
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 7am
Plot:
Just when you thought it was safe to go to sleep, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) is back to haunt your dreams and freeze your blood!

Lisa Zane ('Bad Influence') is a child psychologist tormented by recurring nightmares. But not until she meets a new patient with the same horrific dreams does her quest for answers lead to a certain house on Elm Street---where an evil that defies the grave is about to be unleashed upon the world.

With Yaphet Kotto (TV's 'Homicide', 'Alien') and cameos by Rosanne, Tom Arnold, Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp, this chapter in the world's most terrifying dream saga is a fantastic voyage.

My Thoughts:
This one... while still a good one... probably has the most comedic elements of all the "Nightmare" movies. This is the only one that I saw at the theater... how could I not since it was in 3-D? The DVD has both a 3-D version as well as a 2-D version. Unfortunately since going blind in my left eye... I have to watch the 2-D version. This one tells the reason why Freddy first started going after the children... which I think they fit in rather well. How often can you say that you are up to part 6 of a movie series and still enjoying it?

Title: Wes Craven's New Nightmare
Movie Count: 21
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 8:30am
Plot:
Writer-director Wes Craven ('Scream', 'Scream 2') returns to the darkest shadows of Elm Street with "the cleverest, wittiest, most twisted scarefest in ages!" (Peter Travers, 'Rolling Stone').

Winner of a Golden Scroll of Outstanding Achievement from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror, this spinetingling tale reunites original Nightmare stars Robert Englund, Heather Lagenkamp and John Saxon as "reel" Freddy invades the real world with deadly results.

Life imitated art during filming. Soon after shooting an earthquake sequence, the "Northridge Quake" shook Los Angeles. Says Craven, "We were about to have rubble created for the movie, but instead, we were able to just go out and film from the streets." But don't worry, Freddy fans. It's only a movie...or is it?

My Thoughts:
Another really good installment to the "Nightmare" series. This time a very different installment... as it was able to reunite a lot of the original cast.  I thought it was a very interesting idea... and even though I enjoyed them...  I find that this one I really have to be in the mood for to watch. I guess what I mean is it is different in a good way... but I have to be in the mood for said different to watch it. Luckily I was in the mood this morning!

Title: High Tension
Movie Count: 22
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 12:30pm
Plot:
Marie and Alexia are classmates and best friends. Hoping to prepare for their college exams in peace and quiet, they decide to spend a weekend in the country at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. But in the dead of night, a stranger knocks on the front door. And with the first swing of his knife, the girls' idyllic weekend turns into an endless night of horror...

My Thoughts:
This one is another Blind Buy for me... I never even seen the trailer for it. But I found the disc in the Wal-Mart Bargain Bin... and the back description sounds good... so figured for $5... why not? After watching it... I would be lying if I said I completely understood this one. I mean I got the main idea of it... but there is one or 2 things that didn't make 100% sense to me. I normally have a problem with subtitles (I am a very slow reader) so when I saw the subtitles start to come up my heart just dropped... I would say this film is half in French and half in English... which was strange enough to me. But luckily all the dialog when spoken was short and sweet so I was able to manage with little trouble.  Over all I really liked this movie. Warning for those that don't like it... this movie is fairly heavy on the gore. And without spoiling things... there is an ending to this one that I think could turn some people off and make them disappointed in it... but I rather liked it myself.

Title: The Legend of the Hell House
Movie Count: 23
TV Ep Count: 5
Time Started: 4pm
Plot:
It sits here, shrouded in mist and mystery, a nesting place for living evil and terror from the dead. It's Hell House. Roddy McDowall heads the cast of this exciting chiller about four psychic investigators and the dark, brooding mansion they themselves call "the Mt. Everest of haunted houses." It's already destroyed one team of researchers. Now this brave quartet ventures in for another try at unraveling its secret. But before they succeed, they must suffer through madness, murder and everything else the spirits that dwell here have in store for them. Yet learning the truth just might drive them all insane. An ingeniously-devised ghost story, THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE will thrill and delight veteran horror fans from the first creaking door to the very last slithering shadow.

My Thoughts:
This was another Blind Buy I got from Wal-Mart for $5 from their Halloween Display. I bought this one because a good friend of mine suggested it... and since she knows my tastes in movies I felt comfortable checking it out. And let me say... I am really glad I did! This movie had me glued to the TV from start to finish! At times there is nothing better then a good haunted house story... and when you are in that mood this movie is a perfect solution. I highly recommend it!

Title: Roseanne: Halloween Edition - Halloween V
Movie Count: 23
TV Ep Count: 6
Time Started: 6:15pm
Plot:
It’s Halloween night at the diner, but the real shocks are about to come from some very unexpected places.

My Thoughts:
Another fun Halloween Episode of Roseanne... This episode Nancy believes that Dan hates her... and I must say I love the final prank of the episode.

Title: Roseanne: Halloween Edition - Skeletons in the Closet
Movie Count: 23
TV Ep Count: 7
Time Started: 6:45pm
Plot:
A Halloween party at The Lunch Box brings out Leon’s gay friends as well as Bev’s hair-raising secret.

My Thoughts:
Another fun Halloween Episode of Roseanne... This was a decent episode... but definitely not my favorite of the Roseanne Halloween episodes.

Title: Roseanne: Halloween Edition - Halloween: The Final Chapter
Movie Count: 23
TV Ep Count: 8
Time Started: 7:15pm
Plot:
Ed McMahon and Sarah Chalke guest star when Roseanne’s ouija board delivers the most unexpected news of all.

My Thoughts:
Another fun Halloween Episode of Roseanne... I liked this one because of a few things... first there is some new stuff in it to enjoy... then they have clips of the other Halloween episodes... and then tops it off with her last kid being born on Halloween. Which for this show was a perfect fit since they always made a big deal out of Halloween.

Title: Near Dark
Movie Count: 24
TV Ep Count: 8
Time Started: 6am
Plot:
In the dusty heart of the American southwest, innocent country boy Caleb Colton (Adrian Pasdar of MYSTERIOUS WAYS) is seduced by a beautiful girl (Jenny Wright) into joining a roving pack of vicious drifters led by the enigmatic Jesse (Lance Henriksen of THE TERMINATOR and ALIENS). But this is no ordinary band of outlaws; Caleb is now trapped in a nightmare of soulless evil that waits in the shadows, hellish mayhem that thrives on blood and absolute horror that begins NEAR DARK.

Bill Paxton (TWISTER) and Jenette Goldstein (ALIENS) co-star in this extraordinary shocker co-written and directed by Kathryn Bigelow (STRANGE DAYS) that Entertainment Weekly calls "ultrastylish, ultraviolent and altogether brilliant." This is more than simply the most ferociously original vampire movie of our generation; NEAR DARK is one of the best horror movies of all time.

My Thoughts:
I will never forget the first time I watched this movie... was shortly after I first got my job at the video store (17 years ago)... I remember thinking... all the movies I can watch... and for free!?! I couldn't wait to dig in... and of course the first place I hit was the horror section. And I found this gem buried deep in the huge horror section. (our store had over 10,000 titles total) I must say this movie is one of my favorite (And one of the most underrated) vampire movies out there! Over the years I have watched this movie countless times. And I was completely thrilled when I first heard it was coming out in a 2-Disc edition DVD. This was one movie I preordered as soon as I was able.

One of the things I like about this movie is that even though while watching it there is no doubt in your mind this is a vampire movie... they never once use the word vampire in the movie... and you never once see a set of fangs.  Another thing I like in this movie is the awesome bar fight scene. I have seen a few bar fight scenes in horror movies... and this is one of the best. Then you have the added bonus that one of the stars of this movie is Lance Henrikson.... a great genre actor.

If you never had the opportunity to see this movie before... I highly recommend it. While working the video store I recommended this movie to countless horror movie fans and I seldomly (if ever) had anyone complain about the recommendation.

"Near Dark" is certainly one of my favorite vampire movies as well.

I watched it first shown at a film festival in Germany the year it was originally released. A great film for all the reasons you pointed out. The bar fight is probably my favorite scene as well, next to the scene in the motel room later on.

I like most films from Kathryn Bigelow; "Blue Steel", "Near Dark", "Strange Days", "Point Break". Haven't seen "The Weight of Water" and don't even want to see "K-19". I wonder what "The Hurt Locker" will be like...

Title: Masters of Horror: The Washingtonians
Movie Count: 24
TV Ep Count: 9
Time Started: 11am
Plot:
What if everything we believe about our sacred icons of American history turned out to be a complete lie? Jonathon Schaech ('THAT THING YOU DO!') and Saul Rubinek ('FRASIER') star in this gruesome tale about the discovery of a Revolutionary War artifact that proves George Washington’s famed wooden teeth hungered for more than just liberty. How far will a group of homicidal historians now go to keep a hero's grisly legacy alive? Would our government deliberately hide the truth to cover-up the meat of the matter? A feast of answers -- complete with huge helpings of human carnage -- will all be served at the final banquet of THE WASHINGTONIANS.

My Thoughts:
As with all the Masters of Horror episodes... this one was a blind buy. Going into this one I wasn't sure what to expect as I have read a handful of reviews online and they were pretty well mixed reviews. It had just as many people loving it as they did hating it. So I went into it with less then high hopes. But I must say I really enjoyed every minute of it. I thought that it was not only an interesting... but a fun idea. There was definitely some gore to this episode... but it was much less... or at least less graphic then I have seen in some past episodes. Nothing I would be too concerned with. So once again... I remain impressed with the Masters of Horror series... unfortunately I recently found out that the series will not be returning for a 3rd season. What a shame.

Title: Amityville: A New Generation
Movie Count: 25
TV Ep Count: 9
Time Started: 12pm
Plot:
When young photographer Keyes (Ross Partridge) snaps a picture of a mysterious homelss man, the subject insists he take a dark yet strangely beautiful antique mirror.

Back at Keyes' home, the demonic forces of the infamous Long Island horror-house find new life through the mirror's frightening reflections. As unsuspecting victims gaze into the shimmering glass, they witness their own violent demise and soon find themselves helpless to escape their deadly fate.

The mirror leads Keyes to discover his own connection to Amityville's dark heritage, and he comes to realize the evil powers of his new possession.

Can he stop the dark forces surrounding him and his dwindling group of friends before it's too late?

My Thoughts:
I have been a fan of the Amityville Horror movies for a very long time... these are the movies that made me a huge fan of haunted house movies. I knew there was several that I have never seen before... and this was one of them. Unfortunately I just wish that was still the case. It was not a terrible movie... but it was definitely below average. I would probably rate this one at about a 3.5 out of 10. First of all... it doesn't even take place in the Amityville house. Instead it is a mirror that came from that house... and every time it makes something happen you see the house being reflected in the mirror. So that is the main thing I didn't like. The other is that it was just a slow movie that I had a hard time keeping my attention on. I can not in good faith recommend this movie.

Title: Amityville: A New Generation
Movie Count: 26
TV Ep Count: 9
Time Started: 11:30am
Plot:
Broken Lizard is back…and this time the crazy comedy troupe that brought you 'Super Troopers' is taking you on a trip so outrageously fun...it’s murder.

Welcome to Coconut Pete’s Pleasure Island, a tropical, tequila-soaked vacation resort where high-spirited fun soon takes a deadly turn-leaving the island’s hilariously inept staff to battle a machete-wielding maniac as they fight to survive another day in paradise. Filled with sidesplitting humor, scary slasher scenes, and plenty of bikini-clad babes, 'Broken Lizard’s Club Dread' is a comedy to die for!

My Thoughts:
After a boring, somewhat depressing morning at the doctor's office with my mother I felt the need for something light-hearted. So I figured it was a good time to check out a Comedy-Horror. So figured if I was going to do that may as well knock "Club Dread" off my unwatched list. Wasn't too bad... some pretty good laughs... some decent kills... lots of pretty girls in bikinis (and less)... you know a good time to be had by all. Though I have to admit... I was expecting it to be a little better then what it actually was... but that could just be because I went into this one with fairly high expectations. I had heard it was an awesome movie.... and I personally would not go quite that far.

I didn't like Club Dread much either. However, I loved Super Troopers and Beerfest was great fun too (all films by the Broken Lizard gang). I think the problem with Club Dread was, despite similar low-brow humour to the other two and a handful of genuinely very good set-pieces, it was let down by it being a parody. As soon as a film takes the mickey out of another genre, it has to be very good to stand on it's own. And it wasn't helped by the silly voices; the cast are great in the other films and didn't put on accents (especially the pathetic British tennis player!). It took itself too seriously if you know what I mean. The other films never quite let you forget that this is a gang of mates larking about and they were all the better for it. Looking forward to Super Troopers 2!

Pete, I hope the film was daft enough to lift your spirits, but if not, shout out on here and we'll have a go. Best wishes.

Title: House on Haunted Hill
Movie Count: 26
TV Ep Count: 9
Time Started: 3pm
Plot:
Vincent Price is wonderful as the sinister owner of an old, dark and evil mansion located on a haunted hill (I guess that's how they came up with the title). He bribes several of his enemies with an offer of $10,000 each, if they would spend the night in the crumbling mansion. He gives each of his guests a tiny coffin containing a handgun and proceeds to set in motion gadgets and devices aimed at frightening his visitors into using their weapons. Terror, murder, and the supernatural make this one of producer/director William Castle's best films.

My Thoughts:
Last night I had a dream... a dream that I was supposed to go to this old house to help the owner with some house repairs and such. When I arrived at the house I start looking for the owner... but strange things kept occurring leading me to  believe I was in a  haunted house. So I continued to look for the owner of the home. I finally find him.... to find that I was standing there looking at none other then Vincent Price! So we start working... but the ghosts kept messing with my work... and since my work kept getting messed up Vincent Price was steadily telling me off!

Well... that is where I woke up. Then later today I realized that I have not watched a single Vincent Price movie yet... and my marathon has been going on for over a week! Wow! what happened there!?! And did I anger Mr. Price's spirit and he send me down a dream to remind me of himself? LOL... OK... now on to the serious stuff...

This was the first Vincent Price movie I ever seen... and one of the movies that showed me the error in my ways (when I used to say Ewwwww... but it is B&W!). If you have not yet given this true classic horror movie a try... I highly recommend it!

If you like cheesy horrors, and if you like kung fu movies, you'll still struggle with Sammo Hung's Encounters of a Spooky Kind! Wasn't remotely spooky, but very silly and badly acted. The fights as usual were pretty astonishing, but this is early in Sammo's directing career and he had a way to go obviously. It has a claim to fame as being a big influence on Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. It was fun seeing Sammo get a possessed hand. Look it up if you're struggling for material...  ;)

Title: The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror
Movie Count: 27
TV Ep Count: 13
Time Started: 6pm
Plot:
A scarifying anthology of four of the best Halloween specials from The Simpsons...

Treehouse Of Horror V: Homer attempts to kill his family in 'The Shinning' (No TV and no beer makes Homer something something...). Homer tries to fix a toaster and winds up altering the fabric of time itself in 'Time and Punishment'. Principal Skinner serves students for lunch in 'Nightmare Cafetaria'.

Treehouse Of Horror VI: Icons go berserk in 'Attack of the 50 Foot Eyesores'. Groundskeeper Willie invades the children's dreams in 'Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace' and Homer enters a 3-D world of computer animation in 'Homer 3'.

Treehouse Of Horror VII: We meet Bart's evil twin in 'The Thing and I'. Lisa creates a miniature world in 'The Genesis Tub' and aliens steal the identities of Bill Clinton and Bob Dole in 'Mr Kang Goes To Washington'.

Treehouse Of Horror XII: In 'Hex and the City' a gypsy curses Homer, bringing misery to everyone he loves. In 'House of Whacks', a computer (voiced by Pierce Brosnan) takes over the Simpson house and attempts to kill Homer for Marge's love. In 'Wiz Kids' Bart and Lisa are students at a school for wizards, where they foil the evil Lord Montymort.

My Thoughts:
I just finished watching all 4 episodes with my daughter, Brittany. These are my favorite Simpsons episodes so I was thrilled when I saw that some of them was being released on a best-of DVD. Really enjoyed all the episodes... just good Halloween fun!

Title: The Hollow
Movie Count: 28
TV Ep Count: 13
Time Started: 8:30am
Plot:
Restless spirits stir this Hollow's Eve, beckoning Ian Cranston (Kevin Zegers, 'Dawn of the Dead'), the last blood relative of Ichabod Crane, back to Sleepy Hollow. Thundering hooves unleash a wave of bone-chilling screams as the ghost of the Headless Horseman rides again! Ian must try to save the town and his girlfriend, Karen (Karley Cuoco, "8 Simple Rules") and determine wheather the sword-wielding stalker is their clownish classmate, Brody (Nick Carter, Backstreet Boys) in costume, or the dark rider himself. If it's truly the Headless Horseman...how do you kill what's already dead?

My Thoughts:
Another of the "Blind Buys" I bought this month. I grabbed this one for 2 reasons. #1 - I always enjoyed the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I know this is an updated modern version of the story... but that sounded like it could be fun to me. #2 - This one has Kaley Cuoco in it. I know she was in 8 Simple Rules with John Ritter... but I never seen that show. What I know her from is the last season of "Charmed" (Billie) and the new sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" (the neighbor). Since I am becoming a fan of hers I wanted to check her out in a movie. This movie also has Nick Carter (Backstreet Boys) in it.

I went into this movie with very low expectations. I don't know... but that may have helped me this time around... as I found myself really enjoying the movie. Nick Carter played a real jerk in the movie... and he did a better then I expected job. Not a great actor... but not terrible either. I think Kaley Cuoco did a fine job as well... I am finding myself becoming more and more of a fan of hers. As I said... I did enjoy this movie... but I have seen better. This is just one of those leave your brain at the door pop-corn movies. I have mixed feelings about the pumpkin head on the Headless Horseman... it was some pretty cool graphics for sure... but there just seemed to be something slightly off about it. I guess what it boils down to is if you can get it cheap... and don't mind some brainless horror... you may want to check this one out.

Nick Carter played a real jerk in the movie...
The Backstreet Boy...?

I've seen the trailer of a vampire/zombie flick he is in. That looked actually quite promising (not because of him, but because of the gore involved).

EDIT:
Tried finding the vampire flick on IMDb, but it's not listed on his page there. Should find the disc that had that trailer again (hmmm, was it on the Masters of Horror...?), as it appears to have been somebody else... ???

yeah... Nick Carter of The Back Street Boys. I think he did a fairly good job and if he studied a bit and worked at it I think he could be a fine actor if he chose to be. I don't know if he has what it takes to be huge.... but a decent actor. This is the only thing I ever seen him in at least.

Title: Gothika
Movie Count: 29
TV Ep Count: 13
Time Started: 11:30am
Plot:
At Woodward Penitentiary for Women, an unexpected and highly disturbed inmate is now held in the psych ward once overseen by criminal psychologist Miranda Grey. The inmate: Dr. Grey herself.

Halle Berry portrays Grey, accused of a savage murder and clinging to her sanity as she copes with a series of ghostly encounters in Gothika, from Dark Castle Entertainment. A fellow doctor (Robert Downey Jr.), a volatile inmate (Penélope Cruz) and others figure in her harrowing ordeal. Mathieu Kassovitz directs this jolting ghost story in which strange voices cry out, messages scrawled in blood appear, specters arise - and the only thing more gripping than Grey's stark awakening into madness is her feverish attempt to escape it.

My Thoughts:
This is a ghost story I enjoy every now and again. I wouldn't say it is the best ghost story I ever watched.. but for me it has it's moments.  I would rate it at slightly above average.... just nothing extra special about it in my opinion. Of course that could be because I had the movie figured out a bit early... so it did seem a bit predictable in my opinion. But either way I think it is a fun watch.

Title: Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Movie Count: 30
TV Ep Count: 13
Time Started: 3:30pm
Plot:
The dead come back to life and eat the living in this low budget, black and white film. Several people barricade themselves inside a rural house in an attempt to survive the night. Outside are hordes of relentless, shambling zombies who can only be killed by a blow to the head.

My Thoughts:
As much as this is one of my favorite zombie movies... there is one thing that always bugged me about this movie. I mean I know it is only a sign of it's time and all... but I absolutely despised Barbara's reaction in this movie... all the screaming and crying... I so just wanted to slap her! I always liked a strong and smart woman in horror movies... none of that crying... screaming... running upstairs instead of out the front door or tripping over her own 2 feet type crap for me! Even with that said I consider this to be an excellent zombie movie... one I believe every horror fan should see... at least once!

Did you see Kathy's post the other day? She came to the exact same conclusion. I said in reply that I always felt this film had a strong sub-text about race and the white characters all die because they are presented as stupid or in Barbara's case, unhinged. Romero was so busy redressing the balance between race, he hadn't got time to tackle sexism as well! ;)

Title: Night of the Living Dead (1990)
Movie Count: 31
TV Ep Count: 13
Time Started: 5pm
Plot:
It’s a new night for terror … and a new dawn in horror movie-making when special-effects genius Tom Savini (creator of the spectacularly gruesome make-up in FRIDAY THE 13TH and CREEPSHOW) brings modern technology to this colorful remake of George A. Romero’s 1968 cult classic.

Seven strangers are trapped in an isolated farmhouse while cannibalistic zombies – awakened from death by the return of a radioactive space probe – wage a relentless attack, killing (and eating) everyone in their path. The classic for the 90’s graphic, gruesome and more terrifying than ever!

My Thoughts:
OK... for my tastes... this is much more like it! Yes... in the beginning Barbara is still all scared and crying... but she is quickly out of that in this version! This is the way I want to see Barbara! Not to mention that I am a huge fan of Tony Todd. Between those 2 things... it really feels like this remake was made catered to me. As much as I love the original... and I do love the original!.. I have to say in this case I definitely prefer the remake! How often can someone say that?

Title: Pet Sematary
Movie Count: 32
TV Ep Count: 13
Time Started: 10am
Plot:
After moving to an idyllic home in the countryside, life seems perfect for the Creed family... but not for long. Louis and Rachel Creed and their two young children settle in to a house that sits next door to a pet cemetery - built on ancient Indian burial ground. Their mysterious new neighbor, Jud Crandall (FRED GWYNNE), hides the cemetery's darkest secret... until a family tragedy brings the secret to life. Now, an unthinkable evil is about to be resurrected.

From STEPHEN KING, the Master of the Macabre, comes a journey that leads to hell and back. Though not everyone survives the trip. For the Creeds, home is where the horror is.

My Thoughts:
Pet Sematary is one of my all-time favorite Stephen King movies. I have seen it countless times... and I still don't tire of it. My favorite scene in this movie is when Gage goes after Fred Gwynne's character, Jud with a scalpel and slices both across his cheeks and across the back of his ankle... both those slices really makes me cringe. This is just an awesome horror movie!

Title: Pet Sematary Two
Movie Count: 33
TV Ep Count: 13
Time Started: 1pm
Plot:
Sometimes dead is better. But the shocking terror that plagued Ludlow, Maine in Pet Sematary is still very much alive in this heart-stopping sequel to the 1989 hit film written by Stephen King.

After the death of his wife, veterinarian Chase Matthews (Anthony Edwards, TV's "ER") and hsi 13-year-old son Jeff (Edward Furlong, "Terminator 2: Judgement Day") move to Ludow to rebuild their lives. Antagonized by the neighborhood kids, Jeff befriends another outsider, Drew Gilbert, who lives in fear of his cruel stepfather Gus (Clancy Brown, "Highlander"). After Gus cold-bloodely shoots Drew's beloved dog, the boys bury the body in the local Indian burial grounds - a place rumored to have powers of resurrection. When evil is awakened, the boys realize that sometimes you should just let dead dogs lie.

My Thoughts:
I figured since I watched the first one I would go ahead and watch the sequel too. I enjoyed this movie... but not nearly as much as the first one. I would say... that in my opinion this one is just an average horror movie. Worth the time putting into it... but not something I would be in a hurry to pick up. More like something I would grab if I found cheap... probably on an impulse buy. That said... it is still a movie I enjoy watching now and again... but not one that I feel the need to watch every time I watch the first one.

Movie Count: 33

Time Started: 4:30pm
Plot:
The Helliwell sisters travel back to the 1600s to protect a coven in danger of extinction and save their own future.

My Thoughts:
Had to watch a Halloween episode of one of my all-time favorite TV Shows! This is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series.  The Charmed Ones travel back in time and learn the real meaning of Halloween. Phoebe even embraces it all and flies around on a broomstick.  This episode is just lots of fun.

Title: Tales from the Grave
Movie Count: 34
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 9am
Plot:
The Old Crone stares deeper and deeper into her crystal ball to tell four bone chilling tales guarenteed to keep you awake. There is no escape from terror when you mess with 'Crazy Gunderman'. 'The Wrath of Hercaylac' will take your soul. Two scientists perform unthinkable experiments in 'Lab Rats' and in an experiment gone awry, a half-man, hallf goat roams the countryside in search of prey in 'The Billywack'.

My Thoughts:
This is one of the discs I just got in the mail the other day. Just looking at the back cover I am not expecting much from this movie. Even the images on the back of the case look cheesy.  But I am going in hoping it will be at the very least entertaining.

Wow... there is no other word for this movie then bad! very amateurish... didn't explain anything.  There is just no way I could recommend this movie to anyone. And this is just for the first movie on the disc! But I am going to try to struggle through the second movie next... this way I can get this DVD off my unwatched shelf once and for all. The only hope I have for the second movie is the fact that one of the stories involves vampires. Maybe that will help me some. I just can't believe I paid almost $14 for this piece of garbage!

Title: Tales from the Grave 2: Happy Holidays
Movie Count: 35
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 11:30am
Plot:
The Old Crone continues her stories of torment and terror starting with a vampire party tale 'Love Bites'. Next she unearths a horrorfying tale of leprechaun luck gone bad in 'Luck of the Irish'. Her third tale teaches a group of wise cracking teens that poor manners can be deadly when they 'Trick or Treat'. Lastly, two twisted tales of holidays with the relatives and strangers in 'Meat the Family' and 'Angel".

My Thoughts:
OK... I am going into this one with such low expectations they are buried deep within the ground. After seeing just how terrible the first part really was.

Well... maybe it is because I knew what to expect this time... but This movie was just slightly better then the first one. Like the first one.... this one is very amateurish... looks almost like something someone created in their back yard. But this one was more tolerable... Maybe because there were more stories so each story was shorter. I also liked the fact that each story centered around a Holiday. But definitely still a well below average movie. Do yourselves a favor... stay far away from this DVD. Don't waste your money.

Title: Twilight Zone: The Movie
Movie Count: 36
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 5pm
Plot:
1959. Friday nights. We time-traveled. Witnessed surprising twists. Entertained aliens. Experienced fear. And first journeyed to The Twilight Zone of Rod Serling's memorable TV series. And guided by four imaginative filmmakers, we traveled there again in 1983. Directors John Landis, Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante and George Miller fashion  stories based on or inspired by classic episodes. Landis weaves a tale of a bigot who gets a walloping dose of his own hatred. Spielberg takes over with a fable of senior citizens offered a magical rejuvenation. Dante serves up a terror trip with a child who uses his cartoon-inspired powers to enslave his family. Then flight goes aloft with Miller's finale about a neurotic passenger who sees a monster on the jetliner's wing. or does he?

My Thoughts:
I have not seen this movie in years! So I just couldn't wait to watch it again. And what makes it even more fun for me. My daughter wanted to watch it too... I got her onto the series when I first started to collect the show.

Some reason this movie seemed spookier when I was a kid.... especially the last segment... but it was a lot of fun to watch again... and was even more special this time as I did get to share it with my daughter, Brittany.... and she really loved the movie too. I had to laugh... even after all these years I remembered the introduction and when it showed the surprise at the end of the introduction Brittany near 'bout jumped out of her skin! Then she slaps me for laughing at her!... where's the justice!

Title: Dr. Giggles
Movie Count: 37
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 5:30am
Plot:
He makes house calls. No appointment necessary. Laughter is the best medicine when 'Dr. Giggles' gives fans of cult horror the right guffaws-and-gore prescription.

Larry Drake plays the night-prowling surgical M.D. (as in Maniacally Deranged) who takes a vengeful whack -- or saw, scalpel, stomach pump or whatever else he finds in his little black bag of medical malpractice -- at teens, cops, and other residents of a once-pleasant town. From an old haunted house to a midway fun house, from bedrooms to the O.R., the doctor is in(sane). And keeping pace with him is a start-to-finish spree of medical puns that make this romp a cut above. 'Dr. Giggles': He'll keep you in stitches.

My Thoughts:
I have loved this movie for years now... this movie stars Holly Marie Combs (Charmed) and Glenn Quinn (Roseanne, Angel). This is one that I got in the Twisted Terror Collection boxset. And finally.. for the first time ever... I get to see this movie in Widescreen. As the original DVD was unfortunately a pan and scan version. So that put new excitement into an old favorite. When I first saw this movie I didn't know who Holly Marie Combs was... now I am such a huge fan of hers I buy everything I can find with her in it. This movie has a lot of creative kills in it... but I think my favorite of them has to be the stomach pump... that is what I would have to call creative and sickening both at the same time. The only thing I didn't like about this dvd release is there was no extras what so ever... not even the Theatrical Trailer. If you never seen this movie... it definitely comes recommended by me.

Title: Deadly Friend
Movie Count: 38
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 7:30am
Plot:
Enjoy being really scared? Have we got a pal for you. Wes Craven ('A Nightmare on Elm Street', 'Red Eye') directs "a witty ghoul story" (Caryn James, 'The New York Times') that combines artificial intelligence with all-too-genuine horror. Lonely teenage genius Paul (Matthew Laborteaux), a specialist in brain research, has two best friends: his remarkable robot BB and the beautiful girl next door (Kristy Swanson). When tragedy strikes both his friends, he desperately tries to save them both by pushing technology beyond its mortal limits into a terrifying new realm. Like a modern-day Dr. Frankenstein, Paul discovers too late that he has created a rampaging monster. Your blood will run cold...if it runs at all...after meeting this 'Deadly Friend'.

My Thoughts:
This is a movie That I remember really enjoying when I was a teen... but unfortunately I haven't seen since... so I was thrilled when I found out it was in the Twisted Terror Collection Boxset. This is one of the ones I really couldn't wait to see again.

The movie held up very well for me. I enjoyed every minute of it. I believe anyone that seen this movie will agree with me when I say that the best kill scene had to be the basketball scene. If you never seen this movie I suggest checking it out. I don't believe you will be sorry.

Title: Penny Dreadful
Movie Count: 39
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 10am
Plot:
A young woman traumatized by a childhood auto accident crosses paths with a mysterious hitchhiker who preys upon her worst fears.

My Thoughts:
This one was a blind buy... but so far I really enjoyed most of the After Dark Horrorfest releases... and the trailer looked really good... so I wasn't too concerned with not liking it when I ordered it.

I did enjoy it... was a pretty good movie... but it definitely not one of my favorites of the After Dark Horrorfest releases. It was good... but it also felt a little limited since the majority of the movie had to take place in a crashed car.  But it is definitely worth at least a rental... and maybe pick yourself up a copy if you can find it cheap.

Title: House
Movie Count: 40
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 1pm
Plot:
Horror novelist Roger Cobb is a man on the edge, reeling from his recent divorce, haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his young son, and struggling with his new book about his traumatic experiences in Vietnam. But when he moves into the strange house left to him by his late aunt, Roger's precarious sanity comes under siege by nightmares of his dead war buddy, visits from a nosy neighbor, and an onslaught of hideous creatures from another dimension. Horror has found a new home, and it's fully furnished with murder, monsters and madness!

My Thoughts:
Brittany was now ready to watch some movies... so thought we would start with the "House" movies. We both enjoyed this one... was a fun little horror-comedy.  This one starred William Katt... who was the star of the TV Series "The Greatest American Hero".  Plus has George Wendt (Cheers) as his neighbor. Worth checking out for some non-sense fun.

Title: House 2: The Second Story
Movie Count: 41
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 4:30pm
Plot:
Jesse and his girlfriend inherit a mysterious family mansion and soon discover that his 170-year-old great-great-grandfather has been brought back from the dead by the supernatural powers of an ancient Aztec skull. But when the skull is stolen and Gramps turns into a party animal, Jesse and his friends must travel through time to get it back. Now, with the help of an electrician familiar with alternate dimensions, a sleazy record company executive, automatic weapons, zombie cowboys, a confused caveman and some very odd monsters, this ultimate HOUSE party gets totally out of control!

My Thoughts:
Brittany was now ready to watch some movies... so thought we would start with the "House" movies. I really enjoyed this one a lot... it is hard for me to believe... but I actually think I like this one a little more then I do the first one! I think that is mostly due to the character Gramps. He was just a blast to watch. The only extras on this disc is the Theatrical Trailer and a Commentary Track... which I didn't listen to yet... will save that for another time.

Title: The Entity
Movie Count: 42
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 5:30am
Plot:
Oscar®-nominee 'Barbara Hershey' (PORTRAIT OF A LADY, BEACHES) stars as Carla Moran, a hard-working single mother until the night she is raped in her bedroom by someone -- or something -- that she cannot see. Despite skeptical psychiatrists, she is repeatedly attacked in her car, in the bath, and in front of her children. Could this be a case of hysteria, a manifestation of childhood sexual trauma, or something even more horrific? Now with a group of daring parapsychologists, Carla will attempt an unthinkable experiment: to seduce, trap and ultimately capture the depraved spectral fury that is THE ENTITY.

My Thoughts:
This is the first time in a very long time... I would say that this movie held up well for me.... though I did find it a little slower (and longer) then what I remembered. It is still a very good ghost/haunting story. So I am glad I finally got around to adding it to my collection. There is a nice little collection of extras as well... it has the trailer, a photo gallery, a featurette on the true story the movie was based on (which was somewhat interesting) and the screenplay on DVD-Rom (read on your computer).

Title: Tim Burton's Corpse Bride
Movie Count: 43
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 11:30am
Plot:
'Tim Burton's Corpse Bride' carries on in the dark, romantic tradition of his classic 'Edward Scissorhands' and 'Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas'.

Set in a 19th-century European village, this stop-motion animated feature follows the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp), a young man whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride (voiced by Helena Bonham Carter), while his real bride Victoria (voiced by Emily Watson) waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world - or the next - that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in classic Burton style.

My Thoughts:
It was time to watch another movie with my daughter, Brittany. This time I let her choose what we should watch.... and she picked this one. This is the first time I have ever seen it. Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is a fun animated movie that is good for the entire family any time... but especially around Halloween. This is the first taste of Tim Burton's animation I ever had as I still never seen "Tim Buton's Nightmare Before Christmas"... but think I may have to see about adding it to my collection as well.

Title: Night of the Demons
Movie Count: 44
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 2pm
Plot:
It's Halloween night and Angela is throwing a party, but this is no ordinary spook bash. Everybody's headed to Hull House, a deserted funeral home with a shocking secret in its past and something evil alive in its basement. Now the guests are becoming possessed, and this party's treats include tongue-ripping, eyeball gouging, gratuitous nudity, bloody dismemberment and more. Welcome to the blowout where all Hell is breaking loose: You're invited to NIGHT OF THE DEMONS!

Scream Queen 'Linnea Quigley' stars in this twisted 80's splatter-fest dirrected by 'Kevin S. Tenney' (WITCHBOARD) and featuring grisly gore effects by 'Steven Johnson' (DEAD HEAT, SPECIES). NIGHT OF THE DEMONS is presented totally uncut and uncensored and loaded with exclusive new extras for the first time ever on DVD.

My Thoughts:
This one was a blind buy... it was one of the ones a friend of mine suggested... I definitely enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun... just watching it you could feel the 80's... this was my decade... so I love the horror from the 80's. This one is definitely a no-brainer popcorn type movie... just a sit back... relax and get lost in the nonsense. Even thoogh I would say this one is basically a low budget horror... I would also say it is at the high end of low budget horrors... if that makes any sense to you.  While watching it you don't feel low-budget coming from it... decent effects... including some pretty cool looking demons. Was definitely worth the 90min I put into the movie... and the $6.49 I payed for it.

Title: Tales from the Crypt
Movie Count: 45
TV Ep Count: 15
Time Started: 3:30pm
Plot:
Prepare for a "gruesomely spine-tingling and stomach-wrenching" (Variety) journey into the heart of terror! When five unwary travelers with dark hearts stumble into a series of catacombs, they find themselves in a cavern with no way out. But the horror's only just begun as a mysterious figure appears to reveal to each person the shocking events that will soon lead to their well-deserved, untimely - and unavoidable - deaths!

My Thoughts:
I couldn't remember for sure when I first ordered this movie... but this was the first time I ever watched it. I thought this was a very good movie. I enjoyed all the segments (stories) in it. Though I do have to admit I prefer the Crypt Keeper of the HBO Series over the Crypt Keeper in this movie... he was just a whole lot more fun to watch.

Oh he's way past that! He lists how many movies he has watched in each posts. So right now, as he last posted, he's sitting at:
Movie Count: 45
TV Ep Count: 15

Well on his way to establishing a new personal record, and probably this forum's new record!

Keep it up Pete!

Now that was embarrassing. :-[ Hmmm, I usually look at the Plot and then read "My Thoughts", but don't look at each detail of Pete's posts (like, the Title of the DVD, which is just above the stats) :bag:

Thanks Ross for waking me up over here...

Well, Pete, that looks super... Way to go. Since you have 45 on the 16 already, you may very well get to 80 or 90 (assuming you don't have any othe engagements towards the end of the month).

Title: Masters of Horror: Sounds Like
Movie Count: 45
TV Ep Count: 16
Time Started: 7am
Plot:
For call center supervisor Larry Pearce (Chris Bauer of THE WIRE, THIRD WATCH and 8MM), listening is a way of life. His days are spent monitoring hundreds of tech support phone conversations, his ultra-sensitive ears attuned to every nuance of voice and sound. But in the months following his young son’s tragic death, Larry’s hearing intensifies until it becomes virtually superhuman. Now simple noises around him have amplified into a cacophony of torment. And as Larry slowly begins to lose his grip on reality, he must take violent action to quiet the deafening clamor. In a world where nothing screams louder than the madness of grief, how far will one man go to find the ultimate paradise of absolute silence?

My Thoughts:
Another Masters of Horror episode. Once again a blind buy as I never watched any of the episodes as they aired on Showtime. This one is a decent episode... though I wouldn't say a favorite. Maybe it is just me... but it seems like I been saying that a lot here lately... seems like season 2 has gone a bit downhill on this how. Not that it isn't still a good show... just don't seem to be what it was in the first season. There has been some really good episodes in the second season... but not as many in my opinion. "Sounds Like" does not have the gore that is present in many of the episodes... but that is fine by me... a horror definitely does NOT have to have gore to be good. It seems to me that this one was a little lacked when it comes to extras as well... but that has seemed to be the case every since Starz took over for Anchor Bay. Over all it was a decent episode... I would suggest either catching it on TV or renting it before you decide to buy this one.

Title: Dog Soldiers
Movie Count: 46
TV Ep Count: 16
Time Started: 8am
Plot:
A band of soldiers is dispatched to war games deep in the woods . When they stumble across a rival team slaughtered in camp, they realize they're not alone. Something deadly is waiting in the darkness: something not animal and not human. Holed up in an abandoned farmhouse, the soldiers start a bloody battle against the beasts. Dawn is only a few hours away but they may not live to see it.

My Thoughts:
I bought this one several years ago while at Walmart one day... not only was it a Blind Buy at that time... but it was also an Impulse Buy... I spotted it up on the shelf... felt the front cover looked interesting and just tossed it into my cart... I remember I never even read the back of the box. Yes... back then I liked to gamble with the DVDs I bought a little bit. In this case the gamble really paid off... I enjoyed this movie from start to finish! I think I really liked this one because it is different then most werewolf movies what  with it happening to a group of soldiers. For those concerned about gore... be warned this one has it's share. I definitely feel safe recommending this movie!

A sterilized form of superglue is frequently used instead of stiches or staples (depending on the injury). It's particularly good for children since other methods are much more traumatic.

Title: Wrong Turn
Movie Count: 47
TV Ep Count: 16
Time Started: 3pm
Plot:
An indescribable nightmare begins when a group of young friends is stranded on an isolated road deep in the Appalachian hills of West Virginia, with no hope of rescue. Desperate and fearing for their lives, the horror surges as they find themselves relentlessly pursued by a force of evil beyond their imagination! Featuring a hip ensemble of up-and-coming young stars, including 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer's' Eliza Dushku, this blood-curdling epic is a shock-a-minute horror rush that will leave you screaming for more!

My Thoughts:
There really is nothing all that original here... group of friends... lost in the backwoods... being terrorized by some crazy redneck family. Seen it all 100s of times. But even so... there is something about this movie I just really like. Maybe it is because I am a fan of Eliza Dushku... I don't know... seems to be more then just that. anyway in my opinion this is a good horror flick... above average. I know it sounds like many other out there... but give it a shot.

Title: The Cosby Show: Halloween
Movie Count: 47
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 6:30pm
Plot:
While the Huxtables plan their flashy costumes for Halloween, Claire gives Vanessa advice on how to tackle her first Halloween party and attract the affections of Robert, the coolest boy in the seventh grade.

My Thoughts:
This episode is on a Columbia House Exclusive Best Of DVD that a friend gave me after getting the season sets. Until I got this disc today I completely forgot there was a Halloween episode of this show. This was a fun episode... I really enjoyed it. I think my favorite part of the episode was at the very end where Cliff and Claire had little Rudy running between each other telling her what to say to the other.

Title: Stephen King's Rose Red
Movie Count: 48
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 7am
Plot:
The chilling tale of Dr. Joyce Reardon (Nancy Travis), an obsessed psychology professor who commissions a team of psychics and a gifted 15-year-old autistic girl, Annie Wheaton, to literally wake up a supposedly dormant haunted mansion -- Rose Red. Their efforts unleash myriad spirits and uncover horrifying secrets of the generations who have lived and died there.

My Thoughts:
This is a long time favorite of mine. One of the best Haunted House stories I have in my collection. I missed this one when it originally aired on TV... but a friend of mine gave the DVD release to me for Christmas when it was released. Since then I have watched it every year during my annual Month Long Halloween/Horror Marathon. One thing I just noticed with this viewing is that one of the psychics is played by the star of the TV Series "Bones"... Emily Deschanel. I didn't originally recognize her as she has her hair blond in this movie. She also has a part in the horror movie "Boogeyman." If you have never seen this miniseries I would highly recommend checking it out! I am sure you won't be sorry.

Title: Stephen King's Storm of the Century
Movie Count: 49
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 12:30pm
Plot:
From Stephen King, the best-selling novelist of all time, comes the terrifying tale of a town besieged by evil. The inhabitants of a picturesque, sleepy little town on a small island off the coast of Maine find themselves completely cut off from the rest of the world when they are hit by the worst storm of the century.

As snow steadily buries everything familiar, terror arrives in the form of an evil stranger. As streets disappear and an eerie darkness envelops the town, a series of bizarre murders creates a nightmare of fear. With no help coming from the outside world and no end to the storm in sight, the townspeople are forced to take drastic action before it's too late.

My Thoughts:
This is another really good Stephen King miniseries... it is one I haven't watched in quite a while... so it was good to see it again. Being a parent I would have never been able to do make the decision they had to make. If you never seen this one I definitely recommend checking it out... I am sure you will enjoy it!

Title: The Omen (2006)
Movie Count: 50
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 5:30am
Plot:
In this "truly terrifying film" ('E!') man's darkest fears are manifested as an unspeakable horror is unleashed on the world! U.S. diplomat Robert Thorn (Liev Schrieiber) substitutes his own stillborn baby in order to spare his unknowing wife (Julia Stiles). But after a series of grotesque murders and dire warnings, the Thorns come to the chilling realization that their child is the son of Satan!

My Thoughts:
This is the first time I ever seen this movie... but I always enjoyed the original version. Unfortunately it has been a long time (years) since I watched the original version... so I don't really remember it all that well to be able to compare the two. This is really a slow paced horror movie. Though I do have to admit I loved the death of the photographer. The death scene for the priest was pretty cool as well.  I did enjoy this remake... but I also think it could have been better. I would say it is above average. I would rate this one at about 7 out of 10.

Title: The Grudge
Movie Count: 51
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 8:30am
Plot:
Sarah Michelle Gellar (TV’s "Buffy The Vampire Slayer") stars as an American nurse who has come to work in Tokyo. Following a series of horrifying and mysterious deaths, she encounters the vengeful supernatural spirit that possesses its victims, claims their souls, then passes its curse to another person in a spreading chain of horror. Now, she must find a way to break this supernatural spell or become the next victim of an ancient evil that never dies, but forever lives to kill.

My Thoughts:
This is only the second time watching this movie... and it has been so long since the first time I went into this one not really remembering much at all about the movie. Which is the main reason I watched this one... because I want to watch Part 2 next... and needed to remind myself of part 1. This is a pretty good ghost story... I would say above average in my opinion... though it could have been better. I did enjoy watching it again.

Title: The Grudge 2
Movie Count: 52
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 11:30am
Plot:
When Aubrey Davis (Amber Tamblyn, TV's "Joan of Arcadia") learns her sister Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has been hospitalized, she immediately flies to Tokyo. Once there, she learns her sister's horrifying story and discovers that the fatal supernatural curse has been unleashed. Now, as the grudge spreads across the world, a new host of unsuspecting victims are about to become infected by the force that can't be stopped - and won't be killed.

My Thoughts:
This one was a blind buy... but as I said... I did enjoy the first one so I felt safe picking up part 2... especially since I found it on sale for about $10.  Going into this one I was expecting something maybe almost as good as the first one. What I actually found was one that was better then the first one! Which is something you seldomly ever see.  I would recommend this one even if you were just slightly entertained by the first one... but I would not recommend skipping the first one and going straight to part 2... as it takes over right where the first one leaves off.

Pete, don't you explore foreign horror? The original Grudge is much better, though even that is only average for Japanese/Korean ghost stories. Ringu, Dark Water, The Eye... they're all great, you really should try them.

There is no use for me to watch most foreign horror... unless it is dubbed in English... as I have said in another thread a while back... I am an extremely slow reader... so I would have to pause the movie every few minutes to catch everything... which in turn would take away from the flow of the movie... in turn taking away any suspense that is built up in the movie. So I just pretty much stick with anything in the English language. But that gives me some foreign movies... like UK... Canadian... and a few other areas.

Title: See No Evil
Movie Count: 53
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 1:30pm
Plot:
Seven feet tall. Four hundred pounds. A rusty steel plate screwed into his skull and razor-sharp fingernails that pluck out his victims' eyes. Reclusive psychopath Jacob Goodnight is holed up in the long abandoned Blackwell Hotel, until eight petty criminals show up for community service -- along with the cop who put a bullet in Jacob's head four years ago.

My Thoughts:
This is another one I got cheap through this month's huge horror movie sale. I went into this one not knowing what to expect... and ended up finding a very intense horror movie! This movie is just messed up.... I loved every minute of it... everything from the eye-gouging to the hook and chain he used to get most of his victims. I definitely recommend this movie to any horror fan!

Title: Final Destination
Movie Count: 54
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 6am
Plot:
His entire high-school class is going to Paris, but Alex Browning (Devon Sawa, 'Idle Hands') can't seem to shake his fear of flying. Once aboard the plane, he has a violently disruptive premonition which gets him and five of his classmates including Clear Rivers (Ali Larter, 'Varsity Blues', 'House On Haunted Hill') and Carter Horton (Kerr Smith, TV's "Dawson's Creek") kicked off the plane. As the students watch the plane depart, they witness the horrifying disaster that proves the deadly premonition true. Now having dodged death once, the terror begins in full as fate hunts them down one-by-one. Soon the five survivors will discover you can't cheat death in this bone-chillingly-suspenseful film that critics call "A first class edge of your seat thriller!" -Paul Wunder, WBAI

My Thoughts:
This is a movie I haven't watched in years... but one I have always enjoyed. It is a good, strong horror. I completely forgot that Tony Todd had a small role in this movie as the mortician. That was pretty cool to see. Anyway... this is a good horror on a great dvd release with lots of extras.

Title: Final Destination 2
Movie Count: 55
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 8am
Plot:
It's a matter of life and death when eight strangers narrowly escape a catastrophic freeway accident. Only a young girl's premonition saved them all from a grisly end. But now that they have put a rift in death's design, there is a price to pay - and it's going to be painful.

My Thoughts:
Like the first one... I have not seen this movie in years... and another one I enjoyed a lot. I really liked how they tied everything with these new people in with the original movie. Showing that even though this is a new accident it is still because of the original plane explosion. Once again.... we have Tony Todd returning as the mortician that seems to know more about death then most people. Anyway... a really nice continuation to the original story on a good dvd release with many extras.

Title: Final Destination 3
Movie Count: 56
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 11:30am
Plot:
Strap yourself in for 'Final Destination 3.' The most terrifying thrill ride ever! After Wendy and her friends survive a deadly roller coaster ride, they start being killed in even more gruesome ways. Wendy realizes the nightmare isn't over.... Death has returned to finish the job. But can she convince the rest of her friends before it's too late?

My Thoughts:
I had to go ahead and finish up the trilogy didn't I? This is only the second time I ever watched this movie. In this one the death scenes are much more graphic.... and like the first 2 has some very creative kills as well. This has been a very strong trilogy... I have enjoyed all 3 movies very much... so much so that I would love to see a 4th movie made. Once again this DVD has plenty of extras to enjoy.

Title: Eyes of a Stranger
Movie Count: 57
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 2pm
Plot:
A lovely blind and deaf teen reaches for a plate she just set aside. It's gone. She reaches again...and it's back in its original place. Someone is playing a cruel game with her. That someone is the serial killer terrorizing Miami in this shocker from the production company behind the original 'Friday the 13th'.

Making memorable movie debuts are Jennifer Jason Leigh ('Single White Female', 'Dolores Claiborne') as that impaired but not helpless girl, and Lauren Tewes ('The Love Boat') as her TV newscaster sister whose investigation inadvertently leads the killer (John DiSanti) to her home -- and a final sequence that will leave you breathless. Eye this 'Stranger' -- and experience face-to-face fear as few films deliver.

My Thoughts:
This one was a complete Blind Buy... never even heard of this movie before purchasing the "Twisted Terror Collection" boxset. This is what I would call more of a light horror... it played out more like a suspense/thriller... but also had a bit of gore in it as well. Another thing I noticed is this movie (which was made in 1981) has a real TV Movie feel to it... if it wasn't for the gore and the several scenes of nudity I would have guessed that this one was a TV Movie. It is a good movie... I would say above average. This DVD has absolutely no extras what so ever.

Title: The Tooth Fairy
Movie Count: 58
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 5:30pm
Plot:
Northern California, 1949: In the woods outside of a small town, a hideous witch lured children to her crumbling home where she stole their teeth, butchered their bodies, and cursed their souls to wander the earth forever. Decades later the house has been converted into a quaint country inn, but an untold evil remains: The witch's slumber has been disturbed, and her vengeful spirit seeks the violent slaughter of all who stay there. And for one eleven-year-old girl with a loose molar and an active imagination, the ultimate horror begins with a visit from THE TOOTH FAIRY.

My Thoughts:
Another one I have never seen before. It was a good movie.... but not a great movie. It is definitely worth watching... but at the same time I am glad I spent less then $10 for it. I would have probably been a little disappointed if I spent more then I did on it. One thing I liked about this one is that it was more then just a movie about a witch... it was also a movie about ghosts... ghosts that needed help to get rid of the witch so their souls could finally find peace. For those that don't like gore... be warned that this one has a few scenes of gore in it. So over-all I would say this is a solid (slightly) above average movie.

Title: Creepshow
Movie Count: 59
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 4:45am
Plot:
Two macabre masters - writer Stephen King and director George A. Romero - conjure up five shocking yarns, each a virtuoso exercise in ghouls-and-gags style of classic 50's horror comics. A murdered man emerges from the grave for Father's Day cake. A meteor's ooze makes everything... grow. A professor selects his wife as a snack for a crated creature. A scheming husband plants two lovers up to their necks in terror. A malevolent millionaire with an insect phobia becomes the prey of a cockroach army. Add the spirited performances of a fine cast (Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson, E.G. Marshal and King himself) and the ghoulish makeup wizardry of Tom Savini. Let the 'Creepshow' begin!

My Thoughts:
This is one of my favorite anthology movies. I think my favorite segment was the one where "A scheming husband plants two lovers up to their necks in terror."... this was the one where Leslie Neilson buried the couple to their necks in the sand on the beach... waiting for the high tide to come.  That one then followed closely by the "crated creature" Fluffy.  But of course I enjoyed all the segments.

Title: Creepshow 2
Movie Count: 60

Plot:
Join our old friend, the rotting Creep himself, as he introduces this horror anthology which presents gruesome looks at three tales of horror: a hit-and-run driver in "The Hitchhiker," a wooden Indian on the warpath in "Ol' Chief Wooden Head," and four friends whose vacation on a secluded lake turns into a nightmare in "The Raft".

My Thoughts:
Figured I may as well watch part 2 while I was at it. Of course this is another good anthology horror. In this one I think my favorite episode would have to be "The Hitchhiker"... even though I definitely enjoyed all of them.

Title: Halloween II
Movie Count: 61
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 9am
Plot:
Halloween was a breakthrough independant boxoffice hit for writer-director-composer John Carpenter('Escape From New York', 'Starman') and star Jamie Lee Curtis('Trading Places', 'A Fish Called Wanda'). It also introduced one of the most memorable modern-day movie monsters in the shape of escaped psychopath Michael Myers, who is relentlessly pursued by Dr. Sam Loomis( Donald Pleasence).

Presented in it's original widescreen format to preserve all the terror, director Rick Rosenthal's sequal picks up right where the original left off, reuniting Curtis, Pleasence, and writer- producer Carpenter. Find out what happened next on "the night he came home," as Michael pursues Laurie Strode(Curtis) into a new bloodbath at the hospital, while Dr. Loomis frantically tries to understand --and destroy--him.

My Thoughts:
Since I watched the first "Halloween" movie early in the marathon... I thought I would watch some more. Usually I save the Halloween movies for Halloween day... but decided against that this year. I only own 4 of the Halloween movies... the first 2 and the last 2. Not sure how many I will watch today. This one I like... as it takes over where the first one left off. So it is definitely a good continuation into the series.

Title: Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
Movie Count: 62
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 10:30am
Plot:
This smart and suspenseful thriller scares up a bone-chilling good time with original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis ('True Lies', 'Halloween I & II') and a hot cast of hip young stars! Now the headmistress of a private school, Laurie Strode (Curtis) is still struggling with the horrifying, 20-year-old memories of the maniacal killer Michael Myers...when he suddenly reappears with a vengeance! And this Halloween, his terror will strike a whole new generation! Laurie's rebellious son (Josh Hartnett - 'The Faculty'), his girlfriend (Michelle Williams - TV's 'Dawson's Creek'), and the school security guard (LL Cool J - 'Woo', 'B.A.P.S.') will become Michael's newest victims unless Laurie can conquer her greatest fears and put evil in its place once and for all! The time has come again for you to experience the frightening fun of 'Halloween' - the motion picture series that totally redefined terror!

My Thoughts:
I just didn't get enough of Michael Myers yet... so I went on to the next one in my collection. I liked this one a lot... is cool how it has a scene with both Jamie Lee Curtis and her mother Janet Leigh (Psycho) in it. I thought the ending on this movie was done well.... of course it makes you think that it is the end of Michael Myers... and the series of movies... but then soon after we learn better when Halloween Resurrection comes out.

Title: Halloween: Resurrection
Movie Count: 63
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 12pm
Plot:
Original Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis ('Halloween: H2O', 'True Lies') is back and joined by Busta Rhymes ('Shaft') and Tyra Banks ('Coyote Ugly') in the terrifying 'Halloween: Resurrection' - the latest in this electrifying horror film series! The reality programmers at DangerTainment (Rhymes, Banks) have selected Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas - 'Save the Last Dance'), Bill (Thomas Ian Nicholas - 'American Pie 1 & 2') and a group of thrill-seeking teenagers to spend one fun-filled night in the childhood home of serial killer Michael Myers. But the planned live broadcast turns deadly when their evening of excitement becomes a night of horror as Michael himself decides to crash the party!

My Thoughts:
Well... I figure since I went as far as the other 2 today I may as well finish them off. The first thing I must say on this one... is I hate the explanation to the end of the last movie. Of course they left their selves limited on what to do after the  way they ended the last one... so I guess I can't be too disappointed in it. But I must say I did like  how Laurie Strode kept hidden away for 3 years... by acting so out of her mind she is kept in a secure asylum.... but not really out of her mind and the whole time planning and preparing for Michaels next return... that she knew would be coming. Another thing I liked about this one was how they did the whole Reality Show via the Internet... thought that was a creative storyline for the movie. Over-all... the movie was a lot of fun... I enjoyed every minute of it.

Title: The Hamiltons
Movie Count: 64
TV Ep Count: 17
Time Started: 5pm
Plot:
The Hamiltons seem to be the picture-perfect American family. They are hardworking community members; giving to their local charities, attending town hall meetings and always respectful of their neighbors...except for the fact that they usually end up killing them.

My Thoughts:
This movie I am less then pleased with... it was a below average movie in my opinion... not so bad that I will never watch it again... but bad enough that it won't be watched very often. The thing about this one is it is not only very slow... but if it wasn't for a brief nude scene and a couple quick gore scenes I would have sworn I was watching an edited for TV version of the m654ovie. Seemed like for most the movie as soon as it was going to get good it cut away from the action to a new scene. I won't say here what the final twist was... but I will say it didn't feel right... that I didn't feel like it fit with the rest of the movie... so that didn't help either.

Woohoo!... and I have made it to my goal... with 11 more days to spare! So how many horror movies will I get to watch this year? I must keep going!

Congrats, Pete, for being so far ahead of yourself!

Of course now, breaking the record you'll set this month will be all the harder to beat next time

is cool how it has a scene with both Jamie Lee Curtis and her mother Janet Leigh (Psycho) in it.
Didn't they previously appear together in John Carpenter's "The Fog"? Not sure right now though, if they had a scene together in that one.

Been a long time since I watched The Fog... will have to make sure I watch that one before the month is over. :)

Title: Supernatural: In My Time of Dying
Movie Count: 64
TV Ep Count: 18
Time Started: 10:30am
Plot:
In the aftermath of the car crash, the surviving Winchesters go to the hospital, where one is stalked by a Reaper while another must consider sacrificing himself to save the others.

My Thoughts:
The first episode of the second season... This is one of my favorite shows! This episode was a great continuation of last season's finale.

Title: Supernatural: Everybody Loves a Clown
Movie Count: 64
TV Ep Count: 19
Time Started: 11:30am
Plot:
After the events at the hospital, the brothers have no idea where the demon that killed their mother is hiding. While biding their time trying to come up with an idea, they investigate murders committed by a killer clown.

My Thoughts:
Another really good episode. It always got me how they can make something as fun as a clown be something scary to some people. They never bothered me... but I did have a friend that was terrified of clowns.

I always loved that scene in Poltergeist...

BTW, wasn't there a rumor last year they would bring out a new box for the Poltergeist films...? Was the recent release of the first film all that happened to it?

Title: Candyman
Movie Count: 65
TV Ep Count: 19
Time Started: 2pm
Plot:
A children's ghost story comes to terrifying life in this gut-wrenching thriller about a graduate student whose research into modern folklore summons the spirit of the dead. Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) scoffs at superstition. But when she hears about 'Candyman' (Tony Todd), a slave spirit with a hook hand said to haunt a notorious housing project, she has a new twist for her thesis. To prove 'Candyman' doesn't exist, Helen heads to the site of a brutal murder to call for him by saying his name five times. To her horror, he appears, igniting a string of gruesome slayings. But the police don't believe in monsters, and Helen is charged with the grisly crimes. Only one person can set her free: 'Candyman'.

My Thoughts:
This one I liked... though it is not quite as good as I remember it being. I mostly ordered this one because I am a fan of Tony Todd... and he did a great job in this movie. Even though it is not quite as good as I remembered don't mean it isn't a good movie... I thought it was real good... well above average.... but not great. I last watched this movie back in my early 20's.... and I guess remembering back to then it possibly didn't hold up as well as it could have. Still well worth the low price I got it for.

Title: Thir13en Ghosts
Movie Count: 66
TV Ep Count: 19
Time Started: 4:30pm
Plot:
What a house! It's all steel and glass and elegance - and it all belongs to Arthur Kriticos and his family as an unexpected inheritance. You could say it's their dream home. Especially if the dreams are nightmares.

Awesome ectoplasmic specters populate THIRTEEN GHOSTS, an effects-rampant remake of the 1960 William Castle haunted-house film from producers Gilbert Adler, Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis, who conjured up the equally terrorific HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1999). Tony Shalhoub as Arthur leads a cast that includes Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Lillard, Shannon Elizabeth, Rah Digga and F. Murray Abraham. The house itself is a design marvel and a mysterious puzzle-cube whose eerie corridors, sliding walls, spinning floors and phantasmic fiends may allow no escape.

My Thoughts:
This is a remake that I enjoyed... though it is so much different from the original... I personally barely see it as a remake. It is pretty cool seeing Tony Shalhoub in a role other then on Monk (or his earlier role on Wings). I thought they really did a good job on the 12 ghosts that were trapped in the house. This one has a nice amount of gore... especially for a ghost movie. So fair warning to those of you that don't like gore.

Title: Fright Night
Movie Count: 67
TV Ep Count: 19
Time Started: 7:30am
Plot:
Meet Jerry Dandridge. He's sweet, sexy, and he likes to sleep in late. You might think he's the perfect neighbor. But before inviting Jerry in for a nightcap, there's just one thing you should know. Jerry prefers his drinks warm, red -- and straight from the jugular! It's FRIGHT NIGHT, a horrific howl starring Chris Sarandon as the seductive vampire and William Ragsdale as the frantic teenager struggling to keep Jerry's deadly fangs out of his neck. Only 17-year-old Charley Brewster (Ragsdale) knows Jerry's bloodcurdling secret. When Charley can't get anybody to believe him, he turns to TV horror host Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), who used to be the "Great Vampire Killer" of the movies. Can these mortals save Charley and his sweetheart Amy (Amanda Bearse) from the wrathful bloodsucker's toothy embrace? If you love being scared, FRIGHT NIGHT will give you the nightmare of your life!

My Thoughts:
I had to watch this one... it is one of the Vampire movies I like a lot. No it is not the scariest Vampire movie out there... but for some reason I think it is a lot of fun... and for some reason I never tire of it. Of course the fact that Roddy McDowall is in it is a help. Also Amanda Bearse (the neighbor in Married... With Children) is in it as well... looking rather young which is surprising since the movie is only 2 years older then the series is. As many know... I am a huge vampire fan.. and I think Chris Sarandon did a good job at bringing the classic idea of the vampire to this movie. but at the same time thought Stephen Geoffreys (Evil Ed) did a great job for a fun vampire that gave us a few laughs. But I must admit... I have always been disappointed in Amanda Bearse's look as a vampire... first I didn't care for her with that long red wig on... then I despised the look of the "Monster" version of her Vampire. Oh well... the way I see it is if that is all I have to complain about... then so what... I will enjoy this movie for years to come.

Title: Interview with a Vampire
Movie Count: 68
TV Ep Count: 19
Time Started: 11am
Plot:
The undead are among us and livelier than ever when Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and a talented froup of young-bloods star in 'Interview with the Vampire', the spellbinding screen adaptation of Anne Rice's best seller that's "one of the best films of the year"(Caryn James, 'The New York Times'). Award winning box-office favorite Cruise stylishly plays the supremely evil and charismatic vampire Lestat. Pitt is Louis, lured by Lestat into the inmortality of the dammed, then tormented by an unalterable fact of vampire life: to survive, he must kill. Stephanie Rea, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater and newcomer Kristin Dunst also star. One lifetime alone offers plenty of opportunities for the savage revelries of the night. Imagine what an eternity can bring. Hypnotically directed by Neil Jordan ('The Crying Game'), 'Interview with a Vampire' offers enough thrills, shocks and fiendish fun to last a lifetime...and beyond.

My Thoughts:
It has been years since I saw this one... so long in fact that I forgot how much I did enjoy this movie. I personally find this one more interesting then I do horrific. It gives you a view into vampirism from the vampire's point of view. A very interesting take indeed. I enjoyed every minute of it.. the 2 hours it lasted just flew by as I watched... definitely a sign of a good movie.

Title: Supernatural: Bloodlust
Movie Count: 68
TV Ep Count: 20
Time Started: 4pm
Plot:
After hearing of two recent deaths and over a dozen cattle mutilations, Sam and Dean decide to go check it out. They find is a hunter by the name of Gordon is responsible for the two deaths which turn out to be vampires he had been hunting for six months. Sam and Dean begin working with Gordon after saving his life, but soon find out from Ellen that Gordon is a danger to himself and everything around him.

My Thoughts:
This was a good episode... I always enjoyed vampire episodes of any TV Series. One thing I especially liked was seeing Amber Benson playing a vampire. You may remember her as Tara (Williow's Girlfriend) on Buffy the Vampire Slayer)... I thought it was pretty cool seeing her in this show as a vampire.

Title: Supernatural: Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things
Movie Count: 68
TV Ep Count: 21
Time Started: 5pm
Plot:
Dean and Sam investigate the death of a young college student who died in a car accident, but whose grave is now surrounded by a circle of dead plants.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode... this one dealing with another of my favorite horror sub-genres... this time zombies. I think my favorite line in this episode is when confronting the person they believe brought back the zombie... Dean comes out with ... "Haven't you ever seen Pet Sematary?" LOL... loved it!

Title: Urban Legends: Bloody Mary
Movie Count: 69
TV Ep Count: 21
Time Started: 7am
Plot:
From the Director of Pet Sematary, the terrifying 'Urban Legend' trilogy comes full circle with 'URBAN LEGENDS: BLOODY MARY', delivering hair-raising scares in the tradition of 'The Grudge' and 'The Ring'.

On a Homecoming Night dare, a trio of high-school friends chant an incantation, unleashing an evil spirit from the past with deadly consequences. That same night, the girls are abducted by a gang of high-school jocks. Once rescued, their tormentors receive their just desserts, dying one by one in a chain reaction of gruesome murders, each with a bizarre "Urban Legend" twist. Is it all just a high-school prank taken to grisly extremes - or has "Bloody Mary" returned from the grave to wreak her own vengeance?

My Thoughts:
This is only the second time I watched this one since I bought it. I like... even prefer this new format for the Urban Legends movies. In this one... the main focus of the story is of a single urban Legend... in this case obviously the Bloody Mary legend. I liked the first couple movies as well... but would love to see a whole series of Urban Legend movies based on a single legend... would enjoy seeing some based on legends such as The Hook Man and The Woman in White.

Bloody Mary was done rather well in my opinion. I enjoyed it.... but I wouldn't go as far as the back if the box goes and compare the scares in this movie to those of 'The Grudge' and 'The Ring'.  Like the first 2 movie the killings still are based on other urban legends. Over-all I would say this one is above average... but could have been better.

Title: Supernatural: Simon Said
Movie Count: 69
TV Ep Count: 22
Time Started: 3am
Plot:
Sam and Dean meet Andy (guest star Gabriel Tigerman), a slacker who has psychic powers of persuasion, which he uses to gain favors from people. However, when some of Andy's friends start dying, the brothers question whether Andy is using his powers to kill.

My Thoughts:
This one was a decent episode.... though not one of my favorites. I mean it was alright for what it was... it just didn't impress me all that much. I can't even really put my finger on why. The upside of this one though... is that it does move the season long arc along nicely. Which I am sure is what this whole episode was meant for.  Not much of a single episode thriller here.

Title: Supernatural: No Exit
Movie Count: 69
TV Ep Count: 23
Time Started: 3:45am
Plot:
Sam and Dean investigate the brutal slayings of blond women from an apartment building and discover the demon responsible is the ghost of the first serial murderer, H. H. Holmes.

My Thoughts:
This episode was better then the last one... I enjoyed it quite a bit. Not only do we get a strong weekly episode... but we learn a little more about the boy's father and his past.

Title: Supernatural: Usual Suspects
Movie Count: 69
TV Ep Count: 24
Time Started: 4:30am
Plot:
Sam and Dean investigate the murders of a lawyer and his wife who claimed to have seen a ghost right before they died. However, after local detectives Ballard (guest star Linda Blair) and Sheridan (guest star Jason Gedrick) uncover the Winchesters' records, they arrest the brothers for a double homicide before they are able to find the ghost.

My Thoughts:
Excellent Episode!... This one is definitely one of my favorites. This one is a good strong story... has a guest star that excites any horror fan... and I must say I laughed my ass off when they poked fun at Linda Blair and her role on The Exorcist at the end of the episode... when Dean asked Sam if "she looked familiar"... he said no... and then Dean asked Sam if he was hungry... Sam says something like "I guess... why?"... Dean comes out with ?"I dunno... I could really go for some pea soup!" What can I say... I loved it!

Title: Supernatural: Crossroad Blues
Movie Count: 69
TV Ep Count: 25
Time Started: 7am
Plot:
When two highly successful professionals die after claiming to be haunted by hellhounds, Sam and Dean investigate the local dive bar and discover it sits upon a site where a deal-making demon has been making people's dreams come true in exchange for their souls.

My Thoughts:
This is another very strong episode... I enjoyed it a lot. This is the episode that Sam and Dean find out what their father did for them... even though they already suspected it. I really liked how Dean tricked the demon in this episode. It shows that he is smarter then what I tend to see his character being most the time.

Title: From Beyond the Grave
Movie Count: 70
TV Ep Count: 25
Time Started: 10am
Plot:
Bolt the door, lower the lights and settle in for a stylish five-episode supernatural shocker possessed of a shivery all-star cast and drenched in evil. Welcome to Temptations Ltd., a decrepit antique shop whose unwary customers get more than they bargain for from the wily proprietor (Peter Cushing). Much more.

Go to the head of the horror class if you can predict who'll join the ranks of the doomed from among this role call of distinguished British actors: Ian Bannen, Ian Carmichael, Diana Dors, Lesley-Anne Down, Margaret Leighton, Donald Pleasence, Nyree Dawn Porter, David Warner and more. A mirror. A medal. A snuff box. An ornate door. All unleash novelty surprises for the characters -- and you -- in these wickedly horrific tales 'From Beyond the Grave'.

My Thoughts:
This one is another I have never seen. A horror movie made in the UK... way back in 1973. It is one of the titles that was packaged in the "Twisted Terror Collection" boxset.  I wouldn't say this is a great horror movie... but I did definitely enjoy it. I liked the old guy that ran the antique shop. And think my favorite segment would be the first one with the mirror. I can see myself watching this one again at some point... but it isn't one I will watch all that often.

Title: The Hand
Movie Count: 71
TV Ep Count: 25
Time Started: 1pm
Plot:
A gifted cartoonist's life comes apart at the seams when his drawing hand is accidentally severed. Slowly, painfully, he tries to adjust...but a terrifying evil creeps into his consciousness. And one by one, the people who stand in his way begin to die.

Written and directed by Academy Award® winner Oliver Stone, this spellbinder showcases a vivid central performance by Michael Caine and wonderfully ghoulish special effects by veteran macabre master Carlo Rambaldi. Stone called for more than 30 different hands to be designed, all used in particular situations. "We had a crawling hand, a walking hand, a strangling hand," he explains. "Each did something entirely different. They were really quite exciting." And they'll keep you guessing right up to the very end!

My Thoughts:
This is also one of the titles that was packaged in the "Twisted Terror Collection" boxset.  I remember seeing this movie back in the '80s.... and really enjoying it... but that is all I remembered about it. So it was like watching this one for the first time... again. I found that I still enjoy the movie very much... though I do admit to be slightly confused by the ending. Definitely one worth checking out... and I do see myself watching it again at some point.

Title: Someone's Watching Me!
Movie Count: 72
TV Ep Count: 25
Time Started: 10am
Plot:
L.A. newcomer Leigh Michaels moves into a chic high-rise apartment building. She loves the view. So does the Peeping Tom who lives somewhere in the adjacent tower.

John Carpenter ('Halloween', 'Escape from New York') writes and directs this thriller where the breath-catching suspense starts the moment Leigh (Lauren Hutton) is framed in the lens of a telescope. For Leigh, it's the beginning of terrors that escalate from anonymous calls and gifts to lights that mysteriously flicker to prove that someone watches every moment of her life. Leigh fights back, matching her tormentor's obsession with her own relentless drive to uncover his identity. The prey is now predator -- and that escalates the stalker's game to a deadly new level. Someone is watching. You won't dare look away.

My Thoughts:
This one is a TV Movie back from 1978. Another one I have never seen... and is the final movie that came in the "Twisted Terror Collection" boxset. I went into this one with fairly high hopes... for two reasons. First I am a fan of John Carpenter. Then there is also the fact that I have learned by collecting the DVDs that I really tend to enjoy TV Movies from the 1970's.  But I think I went into this one expecting a little too much. I enjoyed the movie... but not as much as some of the other 70's TV Movies I have watched.

Title: Stephen King's It
Movie Count: 73
TV Ep Count: 25
Time Started: 2pm
Plot:
IT can be anything. A fanged monster that won't stay on the movie screen. Something ominous lurking in the basement. No matter what your biggest fear is, no one knows 'It' better than Stephen King.

Based on King's 1986 bestseller, 'It' is a jittery, jolting excursion into personal fear starring Harry Anderson, Annette O'Toole, John Ritter and Richard Thomas. A malevolent force in a small New England town takes the shape of a clown (Tim Curry), but he's not clowning around. Instead, he terrifies youngsters and brings some to their untimely doom — until some wily kids fight back. The evil resurfaces 30 years later: meaner, angrier, deadlier. And friends who vividly remember youthful terrors reunite to battle 'It'.

My Thoughts:
This is one of the King miniseries I like a lot... but for some reason seldomly watch. The last time I watched this one... I tried to get my daughter to watch it with me... but she left part the way through. She claims she wasn't scared... that she had something else she wanted to do at the time... but I don't know.  One of the reasons I like this one is it has several stars I like in it. Especially John Ritter and Annette O'Toole.

Title: Masters of Horror: Valerie on the Stairs
Movie Count: 73
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 5pm
Plot:
It is called Highberger House, a place for unpublished writers to live and work without distractions. But this building is haunted by more than just the specter of failed authors: The ghost of a beautiful woman roams the hallways and cries out in fear and desire. And there is a beast in the walls that owns her body and soul, and now thirsts for the blood of his creators. 'Christopher Lloyd' (BACK TO THE FUTURE), 'Tyron Leitso' (HOUSE OF THE DEAD), 'Clare Grant' (WALK THE LINE) and 'Tony Todd' (CANDYMAN) star in this sexually charged shocker adapted from the story by 'Clive Barker' about doomed dreams, rotted imaginations and the horrific secret that has given life to VALERIE ON THE STAIRS.

My Thoughts:
This was a decent episode... but a strange one. I really didn't care much for the weird ending. I did like that it had a couple actors in it that I like... Tony Todd and Christopher Lloyd. The gore wasn't to bad in this episode. 1 scene that I would actually call gory is about all in this one. There is also a decent amount of extras on this disc as usual for the Masters of Horror releases. I haven't watched any on this disc yet... but will have to so I can see if I can get any incite into the ending. Now that Masters of Horror has been canceled I only need 3 more episodes to complete this series.

Title: The Amityville Horror (Original)
Movie Count: 74
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 4am
Plot:
If these walls could talk...the screams would wake the dead. Based on the chilling best-seller, this "spooky study in psychological terror" ('Los Angeles Times') throws open the doors to your deepest, darkest fears!

The Long Island colonial house on the river’s edge seemed perfect. Quaint, spacious and affordable, it was just what George and Kathy Lutz had been looking for. But looks can be deceiving...and their new dream home soon becomes a hellish nightmare as the walls begin to drip blood and satanic forces haunt them with sheer, unbridled evil. Now, with their lives - and their souls - in danger, the Lutzes must run as fast as they can from the home they once loved...or fall prey to its terrifying power!

Starring James Brolin, Margot Kidder and Oscar®-winner Rod Steiger, this bone-chilling, special-effects laden thriller will hit you where you live!

My Thoughts:
This is one of the ghost stories that made me love the ghost/Hauntings sub-genre so much. I was still just a kid when I first watched this movie... and for the longest time was my favorite ghost story. I have watched this movie many times since then... and it still entertains me to the day. This one I highly recommend.

Pete, is it just coincidence that the name "Amity" features in two very famous horrors from (Jaws) the same era? I heard the original book places the house near the same area as Amity, but it always struck me as odd.

To be honest... I know very little about the history of the film or area. but if I remember correctly... wasn't The Amityville horror based on a story thought to be true... then later debunked? I am not 100% sure... but it is based where it supposedly happened... if I am not mistaken somewhere in/around New Jersey? but take this all as pure speculation/rumor as I am basing it all on my foggy memory of what I read years ago.

Title: The Amityville Horror (Remake)
Movie Count: 75
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 6:45am
Plot:
From Michael Bay, the producer of 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre', comes the true story of Amityville. In November 1974, a family of six was brutally murdered. Now, a year later, an unsuspecting young couple, George (Ryan Reynolds, 'Blade: Trinity', 'The In-Laws') and Kathy Lutz (Melissa George, TV's "Alias"), and their children move into the house that was the site of the horrific event and is now haunted by a murderous presence. What follows is 28 days of unimaginable terror. With demonic visions of the dead and relentless screams of terror, this is the haunted house story that isn't just a movie - it's real.

My Thoughts:
When I first heard that they were remaking "The Amityville Horror" I was rather worried that they would not do the original justice... or that they would make the same mistake they made with the "Psycho" remake.. and make it a carbon copy of the original just changing the actors. But this remake... I must admit... was done in the right way... kept enough the same to pay homage to the original... but changed enough to make it it's own movie.

For the most part I do not like to compare a remake to the original... as I like to judge every movie on it's own as a stand alone movie. But this is hard sometimes... especially when I enjoy the original movie as much as I do "The Amityville Horror." In this case though... I really enjoyed this remake... possibly as much as I liked the original. I think they did a wonderful job with it... and I really enjoy the actors that took over... I am a fan of both Melissa George and Ryan Reynolds. This is one remake that is definitely worth giving a chance... I don't think you will be sorry.

Yeah, that's as much as I know. I suppose it's mere coincidence that the films are only two years apart. Maybe they thought calling it Amityville would trigger a subconscious link with Jaws? In that, the Police Chief and his family have moved from New York and his wife teases him about how he should now pronounce things, being in Amity. So it's certainly the right neighbourhood.

I asked my brother about it... he is older so remembers more then I do... but he said it was actually in New York.... not New Jersey... he and a friend of his took a road trip to check out the actual house (from the outside only) that was supposedly haunted at the time.

Title: The Amityville Horror II: The Possession
Movie Count: 76
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 11am
Plot:
Before the residence at 112 Ocean Avenue became infamous in 'The Amityville Horror', its supernatural legacy of terror had already begun. Inspired by a true story, this chilling prequel is a bloodcurdling, special effects-laden encounter with all-powerful, all-consuming evil.

Although the Montellis are not exactly the "perfect family," at least they've found the perfect home. And even though a liquid that looks like blood gushes from the kitchen faucet and every window has been nailed shut, it still qualifies as their dream house - until all hell breaks loose! A local priest tries to rid the house of unclean spirits, but what he doesn't yet suspect is that teenage son Sonny Montelli has been possessed, body and soul, by a murderous demon bent on total destruction.

My Thoughts:
This one is a pretty good prequel. Not the best I have ever seen... but definitely worth the time put into it. Sure there was a scene or two that I didn't care for in this one... but overall was a good, strong prequel. I particularly didn't like the incest scene between the brother and sister. Maybe I am a bit of a prude when it comes to something like incest/abuse... but I think the movie could have been just as strong without the incest scene and early flirtations between the brother and sister. The only extras on this dvd is the Theatrical Trailer.

Title: Amityville 3-D
Movie Count: 77
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 1pm (10/27 - Not sure how I missed posting yesterday!)
Plot:
The home of unspeakable evil is back to tormet all who cross its threshold, as Dino De Laurentiis and legendary director Richard Fleischer ('Soylent Green') present "a horror picture of considerable class and polish" ('Los Angeles Times')! Packed with bone-chilling special effects, this third rendezvous with terror in Amityville stars Tony Roberts, Tess Harper, Robert Joy, Candy Clark and Meg Ryan.

To debunk the Amityville house's infamous reputation and take advantage of a rock-bottom asking price, skeptical journalist John Baxter (Roberts) buys the place and settles in to write his first novel. But as soon as the ink on the deed has dried, people who have come into contact with him - and the house - begin to meet with a shocking fate. Is it coincidence...or is this house 'really' the gateway to hell?

My Thoughts:
Another decent "Amityville" installment. At this point the movies are still good. Definitely worth watching. Not only do you have a young Meg Ryan in this movie... but you also have a young Lori Loughlin (Becky on Full House).

Title: The Exorcist: The Version You Never Seen
Movie Count: 78
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 6:30am
Plot:
Brace yourself as one of the all-time spellbinders possesses you all over again. Director William Friedkin and producer/screenwriter William Peter Blatty have revisited 'The Exorcist' to integrate 11 minutes of scenes and images deleted before the film's 1973 release and digitally restore the picture and audio elements. The result is an experience more gripping than ever.

Now seen are moments deepening the impact of the performances by Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb. They include a "nervous disorder" diagnosis, expansion of Father Merrin's arrival before the ritual, priestly doubts during the ritual, an epilogue with Lt. Kinderman and Father Dyer and most notably, a shattering staircase descent by Regan. Winner of Oscars® for Best Adapted Screenplay (by Blatty) and Sound, 'The Exorcist' astonishes time and again like no other movie.

My Thoughts:
I realized I have not watched any of the Exorcist movies in a very long time... and this version of "The Exorcist" I think I have only seen one time... ever. "The Exorcist" is such a well known movie not sure what to say here for it other then the fact that I enjoy it... a great horror movie. One that my wife and I used to watch all the time when she was alive... even though it scared the crap out of her. And weird... back in our day this was considered one of the scariest movies made... well a few years ago... my niece asked me to show her a movie that would scare her... so I pulled out "The Exorcist" and what reaction do I get from her... she laughed through the whole thing! Just how demented are kids now a day!?!

Title: The Exorcist III
Movie Count: 79
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 10am
Plot:
A woman crawls by unnoticed - on the ceiling lika a fly. A long-dead killer claims victim after victim. Flames erupt, snakes slither, the ground opens and reveals a writhing pit of the damned. The evil is back.

Also back is the creative force whose novel and Oscar® -winning screenplay shaped the trailblazing 'The Exorcist'. Adapting his novel 'Legion', William Peter Blatty writes and directs 'The Exorcist III', a jolting foray into terror that begins where the first film ended. George C. Scott plays police Lt. Kinderman, investigating mysterious murders. Kinderman doesn't believe in demons and possession. Not yet. Jason Miller reprises his priestly role from the original. And look for Samuel L. Jackson, pro basketball's Patrick Ewing and more bit-role surprises.

My Thoughts:
OK... First thing... you may notice I did not watch Exorcist 2... I will not watch Exorcist 2.... I do not own Exorcist 2.... As far as I am concerned Exorcist 2 does not exist!

OK... with that out of the way.... This one is a good sequel... basically takes over where "The Exorcist" left off. This movie has a scene that I always found to be a bit on the creepy side... the scene where the little old lady crawls around the ceiling with that crazed look on her face. But not all the scenes that were meant to be creepy worked for me. One scene in particular that I can think of that just didn't work for me was the headless statue following behind the nurse with arms stretched out as if to catch her. But over-all the sequel worked well for me. Though is not one I find myself recommending to others much... as it seems this one is not to everyone's taste.

- Legion of the Dead

I am sure there is more... but that is all I can think of at the moment.

Title: Exorcist: The Beginning
Movie Count: 80
TV Ep Count: 26
Time Started: 1:30pm
Plot:
Having abandoned his faith in God, Father Merrin (Stellan Skarsgård) joins a British archaeological excavation in Kenya, where an inexplicably pristine Christian Byzantine church has been unearthed - looking as if it had been buried on the day it was completed. But beneath the church, something much older sleeps, waiting to be awoken. As madness swiftly descends upon the villagers and British soldiers, Merrin watches helplessly as atrocities are committed against an innocent village - atrocities he had seen before and prayed never to see again. The blood of innocents flows freely on the East African plain, and the horror has only just begun. In the place where Evil was born, Merrin will finally see its true face.

My Thoughts:
I have never seen this movie until today. I been putting it off till I could get it real cheap as I have heard over and over that it sucks... but this is just one of those movies I felt the need to find out for myself. This month's huge horror sale at amazon gave me the opportunity to finally find out for myself. Of course with all I have heard about this movie I definitely went into this one with very low expectations.

Well... This one I would say is a mediocre movie at best... It is an extremely slow movie which I hate... but has it's moments. It picked up rather well towards the end. but it is not enough to save the movie in my opinion. Will I ever watch this movie again... yes... sure I will... but only when I decide to have an Exorcist/Exorcism Marathon. It is not one I will watch all that often.

Have you seen Dominion, Pete? I haven't seen The Beginning, but apparently the main difference is that Renny Harlin added loads of CGI nonsense? Dominion at least sticks to a straightforward story. It's just overall weak.

Title: Supernatural: Croatoan
Movie Count: 80
TV Ep Count: 27
Time Started: 4:30pm
Plot:
Sam has a vision of Dean shooting a defenseless man, and they go to the town of River Grove, where they find the townspeople have been possessed by a virus that makes them violent.

My Thoughts:
This was a great episode.... had a real "Last Man on Earth" type feel to it. a great stand alone episode... and so close to finding out what their father told Dean in the first episode of the season... of course they left that as a cliffhanger for  the next episode. Which I will have to watch right away... ad I forget what he told him now... and I have to know!

Title: Supernatural: Hunted
Movie Count: 80
TV Ep Count: 28
Time Started: 5:30pm
Plot:
Sam meets a woman who shares his ability to have visions, and she warns him that she has seen the future... where he dies in an explosion.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode. After finding out what their father said... Sam takes off on his own to try to get to the bottom of things. And we have a return visit from the other hunter that was a bit nuts.... going crazy on the vampires. This time he is hunting Sam!... as he found out about Sam's visions... and the plans the yellow eyed demon has for the psychics and figures him to be part demon... so thinks he must die!

Title: Supernatural: Playthings
Movie Count: 80
TV Ep Count: 29
Time Started: 6:30pm
Plot:
Sam and Dean investigate an Connecticut inn run by a single mother where mysterious deaths are taking place. They find evidence of Hoodoo, and try to figure out who is causing the chaos.

My Thoughts:
And yet another really good episode. This one had one of my favorite subjects... about a haunted Inn. And I like most all stories that involve hauntings.

Title: Stephen King's Silver Bullet
Movie Count: 81
TV Ep Count: 29
Time Started: 5:30am
Plot:
Something is killing off townsfolk in Tarker's Mills. Something mysterious. Something ingenious. Something remotely human. But the only person in town with the courage to stop this lurking menace is a 13-year-old boy, confined to a wheelchair since birth. Adapted to the screen by suspense master Stephen King from his "Cycle of the Werewolf" novelette, this exhilarating thriller features astounding special effects by three-time Oscar® winner Carlo Rambaldi ("E.T.," "Alien," "King Kong").

My Thoughts:
I have loved it since I first saw it when I was just a teen. I absolutely love the supped up wheel chair... The Silver Bullet! I believe Stephen King's take on the werewolf legend is just right on the spot. There was nothing about this movie that was not just plain enjoyable. Unfortunately this is just a bare bones DVD... no extras what so ever. I would love to see it re-released as a special edition.... but I am starting to doubt that will actually happen.

Title: The Blob
Movie Count: 82
TV Ep Count: 29
Time Started: 1pm
Plot:
THE BLOB has returned in this horrific tale about a vile, malignant life-form that crashes to earth in a cozy, rural American town called Arborville. Untroubled by conscience or intellect, the Blob does only one thing - and it does it well. It eats anything and everything that moves: men, women, children. And tonight it wants to swallow Arborville whole. The original version of THE BLOB thrilled and terrified audiences back in the 1950s. Now the oozing, gooey killer is back with a whole new high-tech look. What was once only suggested now comes to life in this visually gut-wrenching thriller in the tradition of such classic remakes as 'The Thing' and 'The Fly'.

My Thoughts:
I know this is a remake of an old B&W Horror movie... to my memory I never seen the original... but going by this movie I would like to.  This movie could definitely be better.... but I enjoyed it quite a bit.  The effects are hit and miss... some of them are rather cool... even to the point of gross. Others are very cheesy and cheap looking. The only extra on the DVD is the trailer.
Title: Re: Month-Long Horror/Halloween Marathon

The original Blob is a proper b-movie. Made when b-movies were so called because they were b-movies, not because the producers were trying to be ironic. It's also notable for being (I think) the first role for the great Steve McQueen.

Title: Bewitched: The Witches Are Out
Movie Count: 82

Time Started: 7pm
Plot:
Samantha does not like Halloween because of the image that people have of witches: Ugly, mean, and Wicked. Samantha tries to get Darrin to see her way when he is working on a candy account. Mr. Brinkman wants to use the traditional witch while Darrin displays a beautiful, more glamorous witch.

My Thoughts:
This was a fun episode... I enjoyed it a lot. Endora was not in this episode. They said the left the country till the Halloween Season has passed.  I think it is a bit odd... in the first season they made it so they disliked Halloween... but if I am not mistaken... in future years they made a big deal about Halloween and they (including Endora) had big Halloween parties. So even if they are not consistant... they are always good episodes.

Title: 13 Ghosts
Movie Count: 83
TV Ep Count: 31
Time Started: 8:30am
Plot:
It's 13 GHOSTS, a ghoulish fright-fest from producer/director William Castle. When an eccentric uncle wills a huge, ramshackle house to Cyrus (Donald Woods) and his impoverished family, they get the shock of a lifetime. Their new residence comes complete with a spooky housekeeper, Elaine (Margaret Hamilton), plus a fortune in buried treasure and 12 horrifying ghosts. As the terrified family soon discovers, these haunting ectoplasms include a decapitated man, a wailing lady and a flaming skeleton, who are held captive in the eerie house and must find an unlucky 13th to free them! Who'll be the final victim of these ghostly shenanigans?

'See for yourself-if you dare!'

My Thoughts:
Classic horror from the great William Castle. This is a good story... though like most classic horror those that are used to or prefer the modern horror movies will find this one is not much compared to today's horror... but held in it's own right is a very good movie. I've recently (within the last handful of years) that classic horror has a lot to offer the true movie fan. I am now trying to raise my daughter to be a true fan of movies... and all the time watching classic black and white movies with her. As I did with this movie... since she is home from school today we watched this together... and both enjoyed it very much.

Movie Count: 83
TV Ep Count: 32
Time Started: 10:15am
Plot:

My Thoughts:
Yes... where I live there is many rednecks... and I do believe some of that rubbed off on me... as I find this show just hilarious! And this is one of my favorite episodes in the first boxset release. I think my favorite sketch in this episode would have to be Big Kids Halloween. It is so true in it's comedy that it reminds me of when I used to take my little girl Trick or Treating. Which she seems to have grown out of... as she now prefers to hand out candy at her grandmother's house instead of going out herself. Of course her grandmother makes sure she has plenty of Halloween Candy anyway.

After Debra suggests that she might be more consistently romantic if she weren't in charge of the birth control, Ray decides to make the drastic move of "cutting the wires." But after a discussion with Robert, and other top "medical experts" he chickens out, but does muster enough bravery to go to the drugstore and buy "the stuff." He even goes crazy and splurges on "the rainbow pack" but the plan for Halloween romance goes awry when Grandpa distributes the "chocolate coins in brightly colored wrappers" that he found to the remaining trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood.

My Thoughts:
This is one of my all-time favorite episodes of "Everybody Loves Raymond"... not only is it a hilarious Halloween episode... what with the confusion of the candy... but I loved the nod to Peter Boyle's past movie (Young Frankenstein) what with him having a Frankenstein... what would you call it... hat? head piece? whatever.  A great episode that I just had to fit in today!

Title: Slither
Movie Count: 84
TV Ep Count: 34
Time Started: 7pm
Plot:
Prepare youself for this terrifying, twisted and chilling film that critics are calling ' the most entertaining horror movie in years' (Joe Williams, St Louis Post-Dispatch).

From the writer of 2004's Dawn of the Dead comes the deliciously demented story of an unnamed evil wreaking havoc on a small town. Intent on devouring all life on Earth, this dark force is infecting anyone in its path. Now it's up to the local sheriff, Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion, Serenity), and his team to stop the spread of rampant devastation - and shocking mutilation - before it's too late.

My Thoughts:
This is a movie I just got today in a DVD Care Package from a good friend of mine. This is a movie that I have never seen.... it is one I have heard good and bad about. And one that the friend of mine did not like at all. So I am going into this movie with fairly low expectations. After watching this one I have mixed feelings. I really like Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity)... and thought he was good in this movie.... and I liked the main premise of the movie. But I do think that some of the stuff they added into this movie was a little to overboard for the storyline. So even though I did enjoy it... and sure I will watch it again... it could have been better. I think I would rate this one at about 7 out of 10.

OK... And this bring my 2007 Month-Long Horror/Halloween Marathon to an end. I really had a great time watching all this horror. Sure some of it was better then others... and yes... some of it was pretty bad!.. but over-all I had a great month! What really made this month even more enjoyable is that this year I got to watch a lot of movies I have never seen before.... and of course that is always a good thing!

I met both my goals this year... I watched at least one show for the marathon every single day of the month... and I beat... ok destroyed my record of 63 movies from 2 years ago. My new record is this year... with 84 movies within this month!
