January Marathon
A-Z TV Series
For my January fun I thought that since I am still finding myself more in the mood for TV series then I am movies... I would do an A-Z marathon of TV series in my collection... I will watch anywhere between 1 episode to 1 disc full of episodes a TV series from each letter in my collection.

As you can see from the collage I made above... I have a very eclectic taste in TV series... so you never know what you may see in this review thread. Could be a new series or old... of any genre.

There is many series in my collection that I never watched yet... so if I pick one of those you can count on me watching the pilot episode since I like watching in order when I watch something for the first time. But I also have some best of discs... so it don't have to be the pilot episode... could be just what I have or a favorite episode of mine if I have seen the series before. It could be a store bought DVD or one I made myself. Pretty much anything goes as long as it is from my collection.

I believe I have every letter in the alphabet covered in my collection... though some letters my may not have much of a choice what to watch. Though with some letters I will have a hard choice with all the titles in my collection.

Numbers
I wanted to start with TV series that start with numbers. I have a pretty nice selection of series to choose from...

7 to choose from... not sure what I will watch yet... but I am leaning towards 2 Broke Girls as it is a current favorite series of mine.

(http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/I5/I592C101DAA13E359f.jpg)      2 Broke Girls: The Complete First Season: Disc One

4. AND THE RICH PEOPLE PROBLEMS

5. AND THE 90'S HORSE PARTY

6. AND THE DISAPPEARING BED

7. AND THE PRETTY PROBLEM

Stars:
Kat Dennings as Max
Beth Behrs as Caroline
Garrett Morris as Earl
Jonathan Kite as Oleg
Matthew Moy as Han Lee

My Thoughts:
To start the marathon off... I decided to watch the first disc of 2 Broke Girls despite the fact that I recently watched the entire season set. I just find this show hilarious. And now because of this show I found myself fascinated with Kat Dennings. Looks like I have myself another favorite actress to try to collect more DVDs of. I will say that some of the jokes are a little heavy on the risque side... so the series is not for everyone... but I enjoy every second of it. My favorite episode on this disc has to be the pilot where the girls first meet each other. I definitely recommend giving it a chance.

Is that the full series collection of Superman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventures_of_Superman_%28TV_series%29) (with George Reeves?).  Wow I really need to find a good cheap set of that.

That particular set is for Season One only. Though I do have all 6 seasons of the series. They are out... and I think they are worth it.

Length:720 min.
Video:Full Frame 1.33:1
Audio:English: Dolby Digital: Mono

Stars:
Richard Dawson as Himself

Plot:
Richard Dawson is the original and best host of Family Feud during it's almost thirty year run. This DVD collection includes some of the best episodes featuring movie and television stars. ABC created a number of prime time one hour specials, where celebrity players competed for charity.

Relive hours of fun and so many laughs, and become part of the family again and again!

Extras:

My Thoughts:
I felt like a blast from my past this morning. But I couldn't decide what to watch... so I thought why not watch something where I could see a lot of stars of a bunch of the old series I used to watch back in the day. I never really thought all that much of this series... was no more then a decent waste of time when nothing else was on. But I always really liked the all-star episodes like these. It actually even made the game itself more fun for me for some reason. I decided to watch the first disc in this set today... this way I got to see stars from the following series...

- Petticoat Junction
- The Brady Bunch
- Your Hit Parade
- Leave it to Beaver
- The Love Boat
- WKRP
- Soap
- Real People

As well as a a couple where the teams were from multiple series... like TV heroes vs. villains.

As you can see I'm in a Buffy marathon and I must the say the episode 5.18 was quite a relief after the two previous one who were so sad... I don't ask you to watch them Pete, but that serie is sure better than I expected it to be when I put the first disc of the first season that Kathy gave me a years ago. It sure not the teenage girls non-sense I tought it was, a rare mix of funny and serious at the same time without being as silly as it sounds.

I just watched the entire Buffy series within the last couple months... when I was given the complete series set. And yes... that episode in season 5 was very dramatic. It is a great show... I enjoy every minute of it!

Once I got hooked on Buffy, I loved it.  I need to watch my DVD sets again..well most of them again and watch the last couple for the first time on DVD.  Some very strong, powerful episodes.  I think I know the one being referred to here... that one about did me in when I first saw it.

believe it or not... I watch the musical episode every single time I watch the set. Yes I hate that episode... but if I am watching the entire set I won't skip it.

Afer all this talk I am tempted to watch maybe the 2 part pilot for B... but as I said... I recently watched the entire set.... so should pick something else.

I didn't even know there was one, thanks Marie. ;D

And because you told me about the soundtrack my three favorites songs in the show.

BTW good thing you didn't skip the episode Pete as something important is mentionned in the Sarah Michelle Gellar song for the first time...

BTW I just end the season 6 and I don't get why so much fans don't love it... Sure it's darker and the main vilain are annoying (in fact I don't think they are as the real one appear at the end of the season and what a fricking powerfull "bad guy" that is) but the season is as good as any of the precedent one in my book (in fact I think I think it's the best one after the third one).

Strangely I can understand what the real bad guy feel and why he react that way as I would have the same reaction (minus the superpower evidently).

Hope the last one will be as good... but the cliffhanger sure got me confused.

I agree with you... think the 6th season was good... maybe not a favorite since the trio was annoying.  :P But definitely a good strong season. I also agree with what you put in the spoiler.

The final season... while different.. I still enjoyed a lot as well. Looking forward to hear what you think of it though Jimmy!  :)

I remember liking the sixth season when I watched it.  There were a lot of things going on...including Buffy finally dealing with what had happened when her friends brought her back...sand they had to face it too.

8 agree with your spoiler too.  That sucked.  But that is what Whedon does...creates great characters and then does stuff that ticks us off.

My Thoughts:
Let me start off by saying this is the US version... and I never seen the UK version to compare the two. With that said... I can say I enjoyed this show quite a bit. I was originally only going to watch the 2 part pilot episode for this thread... but I just couldn't stop watching till I finished the disc. I like the characters... and I like where the storyline is going. After seeing the US version my curiosity about the UK version has been peaked even more. Anyway... I would recommend this one.

I am thinking about buying the set. Never seen the series before (sadly the disc where the first episode would have been on was missing in my "Sliders: Season 3" set). So I wouldn't mind a few thoughts on it.

(http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/IA/IA546DF9079024FFFf.jpg)      Cleopatra 2525: The Complete Series: Disc 1

1. Quest For Firepower
Hel and Sarge, two warriors in the year 2525, rescue Cleopatra, an aspiring actress who awakens from a cryogenic deep freeze after more than five centuries to find the world literally turned upside down.

2. Creegan
Hel, Sarge and Cleopatra must prevent the evil Creegan from purging Mauser of top secret information.

Stars:
Gina Torres as Helen/'Hel'
Victoria Pratt as Sarge/'Rose'
Jennifer Sky as Cleopatra/'Cleo'
Patrick Kake as Mauser

My Thoughts:
I just finished watching the first 2 episodes on this disc. No this isn't what I would call great TV... but it is none the less quite a bit of fun. That is watching it for what it is... silly, cheesy Sci-Fi fun.  One that features 3 hot women for eye candy. I decided to cut my watching short (only watched 2 episodes) mainly because I am so far behind in this marathon. Not anything to do with not enjoying it.... I could have watched a few more episodes easily enough. This is not something I would suggest for a sci-fi show to take seriously.... but if you want some cheesy fun and some eye candy then this is the ticket.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on "A Different World". I am still waiting for further seasons. I enjoyed this series, when it aired on German television.

If you haven't yet .. watch Due South (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Due_South).  It is another great show with a good cast following (though most important here is the fun/good writing) in the foot steps of Northern Exposure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Exposure). 4+ thumbs up  :)

You probably watched it not long ago, but is Dollhouse a serie worthy of a future blind buy?

Sure you weren't asking me but  ;D  I think it is.  Is is an odd duck but has some very good episodes an good acting.  Like many series of it's type it needed more episodes to either find it's real self OR to creatively kill itself.  But like many of its type, Fox seemed to not want to give it the time.  Better to air some of the other crap on fox than this  :weep:.  Yeah .. worth the purchase and watch.

(http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/I1/I12DDAB9C2FDE9223f.jpg)      A Different World: Season One: Disc 1

1. Reconciliable Differences
It's Denise's first year at Hillman and her first time away from home. She takes up residencein Gilbert Hall and immediately clashes with her assigned roommate, Juleesa Vinson, Ever tidy Juleesa simply cannot deal with the messes Denise creates. Denise quickly takes her que and switches roommates. This time, Denise ends up with Whitley Gilbert, a.k.a. the "Mouth of the South." Again, Denise clashes, but somehow Whitely makes Jaleesa look good. It's Denise's first test of the year: How to switch back to living with Jaleesa without ruffling Whitley's feathers.

2. Pilot
The reality of college life kicks into high gear for Denise. She runs into a financial crisis at Hillman: Not only is she unable to pay her dorm fees, she must also pay Jaleesa's. Denise wants to solve the problem without leaning on Dad. Meanwhile a new roommate enters the picture, Maggie Lauten (Marisa Tomei), a chatterbox of a transfer student. In the end, Denise has no choice but to call home for help. Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Rudy Huxtable (Keshia Knight-Pulliam) make special guest appearances to help Denise smooth things out.

3. Porky De Borgerac
tidy Jaleesa is elected dorm monitor and decides to impose some strict penalties for slovenly behavior, especially on litterbugs. Those caught littering must wear a pig nose for the entire day as punishment. Denise lends Jaleesa her hole-hearted support until she's the one caught littering. It just so happens Denise must wear the pig nose on the day of her first date with an important crush. Denise panics. Will Jaleesa let her friend off the hook, or will Denise be forced "nose-first" into making a very odd first impression?

4. Those Who Can't....Tutor
There's no way Denise is going to make the grade in math without a tutor. Enter "King Calculus" himself, Dwayne Wayne. Denise is leary but then surprised as Dwayne turns out to be an excellent teacher. In fact Dwayne's teaching skills are so effective that he and Denise become completely wrapped up in their studies and fail to notice that Dwayne has stayed past dorm curfew. Dwayne attempts to sneak out through Whitley's window, but gets caught in the act. Eyebrows are raised and all suspicion points to Dwayne and Whitley. only Denise knows the truth and only she can save Whitley's reputation, but will she?

5. War Of The Words
It's the great Hillman debat on women's rights. Maggie, with Denise on her side, argues that women can have a career and family. Whitley, on the other hand, feels Maggie's position is rediculous. On the sidelines, Dwayne wants to be the next new DJ at the campus radio station. In order to land the gig he has to do his own show, so he decides to broadcast the great debate with himself as commentator. Both sides gear up for the moment of truth when Maggie's boyfriend proposes marriage. He asks her to leave Hillman and go to Washington, D.C., where he has landed a great new job. Suddenly Maggie is wavering on the very issues she is about to debate. When the moment of truth comes, Maggie uses the debate as a forum to tell her boyfriend that she can't give up everything that she's been working for. Denise surprises everyone with her public speaking skills, and her rebuttal cinches the debate for them.

6. Rudy And The Snow Queen
Rudy Huxtable (Keshia Knight-Pulliam) visits her elder sister Denise, at Hillman College Rudy unexpectedly becomes fast friends with, of all people, Whitely, and even begins to pick up many of Whitley's affected mannerisms along the way. Denise is not at all happy with the prospect of her sister becoming mini-Whitley, not to mention her jealousy of Rudy's affection for her nemesis. Meanwhile, Jaleesa also deals with the pangs of jealousy when she hears her ex-husband has made moves on her younger sister. How will Denise and Jaleesa deal with their respective shades of green?

7. Sometimes You Get The Bear, Sometimes The Bear Gets You
Denise, Jaleesa and Maggie plan to out do the men of Hillman College by becoming the first women ever to pull off the traditional Homecoming prank, by swiping the other team's mascot costume. The girl's plan takes on an interesting twist when Denise's grandfather pays a visit to the campus. What the girls don't know is that Grandpa Huxtable has come to Hillman to pull off the very same prank.

8. If Chosen, I May Not Run
Denise enjoys running from class to class, no problem. She doesn't think of running as exercise, and so she decides to become the third generation of running Huxtables at Hillman College by joining the track team. What's in store for Denise, aka "The Little Engine," down the track? To her delight, she earns the affection of a fellow male track star and amazes her peers. To her dismay, she's a bit surprised by the intense physical demands required to stay on the team. Has she got what it takes to carry on the running Huxtable legacy at Hillman? Is the thrill of victory worth the agony of her feet?

Stars:
Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable
Marisa Tomei as Maggie Lauten
Dawnn Lewis as Jaleesa Vinson
Jasmine Guy as Whitley Marion Gilbert

My Thoughts:
This is a show I haven't seen in many years. One that I enjoyed quite a bit. It is a very good spin-off from The Cosby Show. One thing I like is the guest appearances of other characters from The Cosby Show. In the episodes of the first disc alone we got to see Rudy and Cliff on more then one episode... then there was Denise's grandfather Russell Huxtable. If you are a fan of The Cosby Show... and somehow never got to see this series... I definitely recommend it. I know I couldn't stop watching till I finished off the entire disc. And then felt like continue watching this season 1 set. Unfortunately none of the other seasons has been released yet.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

4 series to choose from... but this time I already know what I will be watching I already told my daughter we could watch some Eerie Indiana together.

(http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/75/755174574498f.jpg)      Eerie Indiana

Referred to as "a stylistic break-through" by USA Today, "cutting edge comedy" by The Hollywood Reporter and "Original and funny" by The New York Times, this landmark television series from 1991 comes to DVD for the first time with three original episodes. Follow the lives of Marshal and Simon as thier travels through the town of Eerie, Indiana take them on a series of incredible adventures. See for yourself why TV Guide advised it's readers "Don't miss this!"

Episodes:
Forever Ware
The Retainer
ATM With A Heart Of Gold

Stars:
Omri Katz as Marshall Teller
Justin Shenkarow as Simon Holmes
Mary-Margaret Humes as Marilyn Teller
Francis Guinan as Edgar Teller
Julie Condra as Syndi Teller

My Thoughts:
This is a series something like Goosebumps where it is a series for kids that are in the thriller genre. But in this case instead of an anthology series we have a regular cast. A couple kids discovering and investigating all the weird happenings in the town they live in. While it is geared towards kids... there is enough here to keep an adult's attention as well.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

I used to watch it before school years ago and when I grabbed the boxset and watched it, I remembered every episode despite not having seen them for many years. Of course, there are a few early roles dotted around also like Nikki Cox. Glad it's one you enjoy - I just wish they had made more episodes! My favourite though is when they get all the money from the cash machine.
