Not all my orders from this year have arrived yet. So I'll have to add mine later on.

Took a quick look at the stats so far though and it looks somewhat irritating. 2004 has by far the highest SRP total but not the price paid total is only slightly higher than some other years :o Maybe that year I bought several Box Set where the content was available separately...?

Also, the price paid total for 2007 so far (with some titles still out on delivery) seems ludicrously high... Something must be wrong... :bag:

EDIT:
:yahoo: I found what's wrong! DVD Profiler is mixing currencies... So, a) I won't be able to post my stats and b) saved myself from a heart attack.

How do you find these details out?

:bag: I only use it to keep track of what I've got, tend not to bother with the other functions.
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...

Even though I am sure it can be done in DVD Profile somehow... I personally not sure how it is done. I always have kept track of this each year through a separate database. I just use Microsoft Works database and then have it set up where I type in the SRP and the Price Paid... and it automatically fills in the field for price saved.

I guess besides Pete most others may have used the Charts in DVD Profiler. There is charts for Price paid as well as SRP which can be displayed by year.
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...
Post by: addicted2dvd on December 30, 2007, 11:28:48 AM
yeah... I don't do it that way because there is many odd-ball releases I get that don't have an SRP listed at all. So I use the SRP from an online site and do it the way I do. I don't submit the srp because I don't feel up to finding several places that agree on SRP when many is off from each other by a penny or two.

I don't know why, but they keep releasing so many TV series and cannot help myself buying
And added to that I started to buy anime boxsets (I did not take these into account when making my New Year's resolution  ::) )

You are preaching to the choir, Tom... ;)

My goal was to buy less than last year. While I am with 122 (+4 in the mail) still well within the range below 168, I doubt I'll make it. The last three months of the year are very full with great new releases

Up until know I paid 1156.31€ (which are currently $1644) for DVDs. Since this is my first year I've been entering this data I have no comparison, but I do remember paying 100€ per Star Trek TNG and DS9 season, thus paying at least 700€ in two consecutive years.

For the Year 2008...
New Titles Added: 167
Retail Price: $4,700.29
Price Paid: $1,731.00
Amount Saved: $2,969.29

First Item of Year: This was a tie between Halloween: 2 Disc Special Edition: Unrated and Resident Evil: Extinction
Last Item of the Year: Christmas Gifts... The Incredible Hulk (2 TV Movie Collection), The Facts of Life: Seasons 1 & 2 and Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Season 4
Most Expensive: The Brady Bunch: Complete Series for $89.99
Least Expensive: 1408, Dead Silence, Evan Almighty, Planet Terror and Vacancy all tied for $0.49 joining Columbia House.

I guess that is not too bad this year. :) Though I didn't get as many DVDs this year as I did last year. But I have been concentrating more on TV Shows then movies... so that takes away from the totals a little.

Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...

This year I bought 109 items which resulted in 455 profiles. The total costs for this were 1,628.60€ (I transform foreign currencies at once to see what I've actually paid).

The average price was 15.66€ per item which is pretty amazing since there are quite a number of season boxes and even full series boxes among them.

My first item this year was the "Angel" complete box which costed 82.19€.

My last item was "The Dark Knight" which costed 9.85€.

My most expensive item was the "Stargate SG-1" complete box which costed 137.05€.

My most expensive item this year was "Smallville: Season 7" for $40,62, directly followed by the "Death Note" movie boxset for $39,99.
My first item this year was "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella".
My probably last items were today's Blu-ray titles (including "The Dark Knight", "WALL-E", "Ratatouille", "Enchanted", "Iron Man", "Spider-Man 3").
My least expensive item this year (not counting gifts) was Idaho Transfer for $0.87.

I managed to add 72

My first purchases for the year were Borat, Breach, Hot Buzz and Zodiac (all bought at Blockbuster - used)

My last purchase for the year was Hellboy II: The Golden Army

The number included 3 blu-rays which I received free when I bought my HDTV and PS3 (50 First Dates, Invincible and Night at the Museum).

All in all a good year  ;D. I usually average 50-60 DVDs a year
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...
Post by: Tom on December 30, 2008, 08:49:13 PM
My average prices paid (not including gifts and such in calculation):
For USD titles: $19.11 (135, a lot of these were TV boxsets)
For EUR titles: €9.35 (41 titles)
For GPB titles: £16.78 (6 titles)

Makes the sum of
$2579.99
€383.47
£100.67

 :o

At least less than last year.
My resolution for 2009: Keep it less than that

A compromise really, but mainly price. Buying something because it was cheap so you thought you might as well have it doesn't count; getting hold of something valuable that you wanted for a long time but couldn't justify paying full-price would.

For me, it would probably be the John Wayne Paramount Collection for £13.50 off Ebay. It was long out of print, superseded by an inferior John Wayne Westerns version, yet still costing north of £35. It might be second-hand, but it was unwatched.

Other titles of note:

First: Gone in 60 Seconds
Last: 300 (Blu-Ray) :yahoo:
Most Expensive: The Godfather Coppola Restoration boxset (£17.98)
Least Expensive: Alien: Resurrection (55p)  :hysterical:

I could have sworn I'd had something more expensive than the Godfather set, but no.

First of the year : The Bermuda Triangle (78) and Guyana: Cult of the Damned (79)
Last of the year : Space: 1999 - Megaset (probably get it tomorrow)
Most Expensive : Angel Guts - 5 discs collector's edition (79,95 USD)
Least Expensive : Frank Lloyd Wright's Buffalo and Philosophy of a Knife (free)
Least Expensive : Horrors of Spider Island (2,12 $CDN)

Might as well post my numbers too - now that I have access to them again!

In 2008:
New Titles Added: 362 titles (386 profiles)

First Items of Year: tie

Last Items of the Year: tie

Most Expensive: $254.99 (SRP 399.98)

Least Expensive: $3.95 (SRP 27.98)

Most and Least expensive do not take into account the free DVD I got - or the gifts I received. It also doesn't take into account currency values.

Best value:
I'd have to say all the Anime I bought this year. It's hard to beat 25 titles for 100$ when they are usually sold at around 20-25$ each.
-- Or --
The Sopranos: The Complete Series. I've had my eyes of getting the whole series for a little while, but never could get myself to plunk down the asking price for each season individually. I also wanted to make sure all the sets had the french dub (which I understand the whole set does) because I have people in my family who will want to watch it, but have not moved on from dubbed stuff. The whole set that came out fixed that somewhat. I still paid a bit more that I wanted - but the nice packging and presentation of the Complete Series set makes up for it.

It's my second most "productive" year since I started collecting. Which is bad. I wanted to take it down. I'll try and do better next year. Which makes me realise what my resolution for 2009 will be: buy less DVD!
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...

Well, I don't want to get into the pricing stuff too much (lucky I can't see those stats from work anyway), but here is the rest, according my phpDVDProfiler:

Purchased items: 197 (incl. 2 which are still in the mail)
That is more than last year (yet again) and that trend MUST be stopped. Of course, going to Hong Kong twice, the 25% percent sale at DeepDiscount.com and several Blu-ray sales at Amazon didn't help :-[

First item: Razorback (Widescreen Collectors Edition)
Last item: The Mummy (Delixe Edition) (http://www.ya-shin.com/phpdvdprofiler/gfx/iconbluraypng.png)

Most expensive was probably the The Dark Knight Limited Edition with the bat-bike.

According to my profiler, I got 168 DVDs in 2008.  I thought it would have been higher, but I went for a while earlier in the year not getting many.

First for the year was (http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/02/027616060051f.jpg) and (http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/02/027616060150f.jpg).

Last for the year - unless I get something tomorrow..lol - (http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/88/883929023646f.jpg), (http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/02/027616888396f.jpg), and (http://www.invelos.com/mpimages/08/085391142294f.jpg).

I haven't figured out what was the most expensive or cheapest for the year.

2008 = 774 Profiles added  :o :stars: over 450 actual numbers added to DVDP (I number each movie and each TV Season)

I honestly don't see any benefit to Blu-ray for me - especially since I watch all my movies on a 22" screen. Of course, if I had a 40+ inch screen, my opinion would most probably change, but as it stands now, I'm perfectly happy with my 22" screen and I don't plan to change it.
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...

I'm not on the Blue-Ray bandwagon too and I honestly see no reasons to jump on it anytime soon. Maybe the picture is better (the TV certainly play a role more important than you think for it), but you know what I watched mostly and I don't see nothing positive in the fact to see my kind of movie too clean. You add the fact that most of the time the movie that were on dvd before get a crappy release on BR (What can I say I like the dvd extra and I watch them all). Finally from another comment by Jon it seems that the picture looks like a direct to dvd filmed with a digital camera, just that is enough for me : I hate the look of it  :yucky: this is the reason why I've not bought "Diary of the Dead" yet.
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...
Post by: Najemikon on January 01, 2009, 02:34:27 PM
Oooh dear, should have known to keep my mouth shut about that! :-[ People who have Blu-Ray and specifically a TV capable of using what mine calls Trumotion, will know what I mean. It's specifically the motion, not the quality. After years of watching films at 25/26 frames, the switch to a more realistic 24 is surprising and worth getting used to.

If you're thinking everything suddenly looks like Diary of the Dead, then I've seriously misled you and I'm about to get kicked off the bandwagon! :tomato:

I can't find a demo to try and show you the effect. Click here: LG 42LG7000 (http://uk.lge.com/products/model/detail/lcdtv_42lg7000.jhtml) and then the "100hz TruMotion" button at the bottom. It's very small and brief but you might see what I mean.

Thing is, I've always wanted a bigger screen and as soon as I got that, I needed to fill it properly! Below 32", I wouldn't bother either.
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...

Just check the demo and like I've said this is the tv that is better not the media format. By the way the one with the music sheets is really exaggerated, the first one seems too blurry like the tv picture was not ajusted at all. I know that those new tv are better, I'm not again all the new technology (I don't watch my film on a 500 pound B/W TV cabinet ) I'm just not convinced that the blue ray format is that much better than the current media format.

First title purchased - Resident Evil Extinction
Last title purchased - Cass

I've done it the old fashion way : with a pen and a paper

Not really

I've used the calculator in my computer to get the results. Just add the purchase date column to DVDP and add the purchase price one by one.

???

No, it definitely is much better and it's not just the TV. Just pop round my house and I'll show you...  :P DVDs upscaled through the Blu-Ray player do look very very good indeed, but an actual Blu-Ray disc is another level entirely. I'm sorry, but I have to pull rank because I have it right in front of me and I'm not remotely impressionable.  :-X

Whether it's entirely necessary is another question. Certainly the leap from VHS to DVD was essential in comparison and this isn't. As I say, DVDs look very good and I won't be replacing endless titles. Anyone with a decent telly should be getting an upscaling DVD on HDMI at least and not worry about Blu-Ray.

As long as we've moved on from thinking it's like camcorder footage, then my work is done... :-[

Database Query should work.

I used my Access converter and then put some SQL queries into it.

For example: Number of bought DVDs, sum price and average price:

SELECT     COUNT(Id) AS [COUNT], SUM(PriceValue) AS [SUM], [Sum] / [Count] AS [AVG]
FROM         vPurchase
WHERE     ([Date] >= #1/1/2008#) AND ([Date] < #1/1/2009#) AND (PriceValue <> 0)
Title: Re: Some Year End Totals...
Post by: Tom on January 01, 2009, 07:52:22 PM
I used a similar SQL statement in CCViewer.

WHERE     ([Date] >= #1/1/2008#) AND ([Date] < #1/1/2009#) AND (PriceValue <> 0)

WHERE YEAR(Date)=2008 AND PriceValue <> 0
should also work, or is it of type string in your case?

Statistics for 2009

I'm a bit early, but since I won't buy anything anymore through the remaining few days, I might as well get this over with. Plus, it might give you some ideas for additional stats besides the ones we did last year.

All amounts have been converted to EUR at the time of purchase and include S&H costs.

For those not so familiar with Euros, the current exchange rates are:
1 EUR = 1.44 USD, 1 EUR = 0.90 GBP, 1 EUR = 1.51 CAD, 1 EUR = 1.63 AUD

Since it's likely that I will still get one or two items before New Year's I have to wait.

But I am planning on: Items bought, Price paid. Both in total and split into Movies / TV Shows. Accumulated runtime. Purchase location (by country). First item, last item. Cheapest (excluding gifts), most expensive.

Also for me the chances are, that I will still get one or more packages before the year is over. I will post my statistics on New Year's.

I have to say this is a scary thought! .... I think I would cry if I knew how much I spent.

Last year I started to run a spreadsheet alongside Profiler, because despite Profiler being a database at heart, the only dev that's been done on it in recent years is making it pretty and that stupid MoviePick feature, so raw data is still pretty well hidden. Sorry. Tangent much?  What I'm trying to say is that for tracking purchasing data, Profiler is and always has been, crap.

I've got enough data in Excel to sink a battleship.

Emma, in some ways it is scary, but one thing I did was set a monthly budget. By tracking it properly I can see how much I've spent against or over that amount and try to pull it back the following month. To put it in perspective, I think this might turn out to be the cheapest year since 2000...

Least Expensive : Date Movie (0,88 $CAN)
Most Expensive : The Russ Meyer Collection (49,05 $CAN)

Last : Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle / Maraschino Cherry (received the same day)

I am very happy to see that I did manage to reduce my purchases drastically. I am more constrained now and hold back a little, not always jumping on stuff on release date, mulling over it for a while to make sure I really want it.

While 2008's total was 193 I am down to 109 for 2009! :yahoo: (I would personally suggest that the lower number mainly attributes to less garbage being added to my collection).

First: The Last Emperor (http://www.ya-shin.com/phpdvdprofiler/gfx/iconbluraypng.png)
Last: Watchmen (The Ultimate Cut) (http://www.ya-shin.com/phpdvdprofiler/gfx/iconbluraypng.png)
Most Expensive: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Limited Edition Complete Collector's Set) (http://www.ya-shin.com/phpdvdprofiler/gfx/iconbluraypng.png) US$86.16
Least Expensive: The Cannonball Run US$4.41

I was doing well this year (didn't get anything at all in June!), but the past three months have just gone nuts. Too many sale prices!  :bag:

I've added 81 new titles this year, 58 were Blu-Rays. 24 of those were "upgrades" (so much for not bothering upgrading to Blu! Again with the... :bag:). 45 in total were blind buys. It's unfortunate that I blew the budget so badly this last couple of months, otherwise I'd have had the cheapest year since 2002 when I had far less new titles as well, so that would have been good considering it was mainly Blu. Ah, well. 2010 will have to be a recovery year!

But how much of an influence has the forum had on your collections this year?

I bought a couple specifically to fill out my Hitchcock's for the marathon and plumped for an upgrade of The Thing because of the horror run. I can also thank Rich and Northbloke for their regular bargain updates as I caught several including Che (parts 1 and 2), although a couple yet to arrive.

I finally bought Downfall, specifically because of new boy Antares' review. I'd always considered it a maybe-if-cheap title, but his review made me get it. As did Goodguy with Madmen and Brick (Brick was an excellent choice, thank you, Matthias.). Possibly the best title of the year for that sort of thing though was Jimmy helping me get Bava's Kidnapped as I hadn't got the second Bava set with it in and it turned out to possibly be his best film.

I suppose I should thank Achim for his North By Northwest Blu-Ray reviews, but that's what started the expensive months!  :voodoo: Still, it is bloody gorgeous, so I accept he was right.

So who wants to take the blame for Tru Calling? A forum fave, but blimey I'm struggling! It's getting better, but I bet the scripts were written in crayon! Come on... own up... I'll get you for it. :tease:

Other than that, my wishlist has grown because of all of you, so Happy New Year to the friendliest and most expensive film forum on the 'net!   Really glad to see the newbies like Critter, Antares and Emma have dived in so much with the reviews. I can see 2010 is going to be even more costly!

Thanks, but I owe you a lot for the Confession of ... box set sugestion and I'm sure you don't even own this British treasure

Personally I haven't bought a lot of movie following the DVDC members recommandation, but I don't think it's a surprise for anyone

I've bought all those awfull Jason Friedberg/Aaron Seltzer movies because of the bad review from Pete,
I've bought Dead Set because of Jon and it was great,
I've bought two hit and miss 50 movies boxset for the october marathon,
I've bought Art of the Devil 3 because Achim had found it for me.

Some titles are on my wishlist (one day I will buy The Girlfriend Experience), but there always something released more in my chord to pass it and my budget is very limited.

I've almost get the two Batman movie today since they were 2 for 25$ at Walmart, but they only had the Blu-rays in stock

I have never really kept track of what I buy...well, okay, I used to, but not really since the DVD was introduced.  I'm probably low compared to most.  My DVD buying has pretty much ground to a halt due to money problems.  I think the last TV set I bought was the second season of The Big Bang Theory and I'm not sure what my last movie bought was...maybe The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance?  I may have bought one or two since then but I can't recall.

As did Goodguy with Madmen and Brick (Brick was an excellent choice, thank you, Matthias.).

Hm, difficult to say. I definitely blame Eagle Eye and Wicker Man on you (The latter wasn't that bad though). On the positive side: Fargo. Some things worked in an indirect way, instead of Malick's latest, I bought his first two. And North by Northwest prompted me to get Kusturica's opera. How's that?

SQL statements used:

Money spent:
Code: [Select]
SELECT YEAR(PurchaseInfo.PurchaseDate) AS [Year], PurchaseInfo.CurrencyID AS [Currency], Count(profiles.Title) AS [# Titles], ROUND(Sum(PurchaseInfo.Price), 2) AS Cost, ROUND(Avg(PurchaseInfo.Price), 2) AS [Average/Title]
FROM (Profiles INNER JOIN PurchaseInfo ON Profiles.ProfileID = PurchaseInfo.ProfileID)
 WHERE ColNo<>'' AND ColType="Owned" GROUP BY YEAR(PurchaseDate), PurchaseInfo.CurrencyID
 ORDER BY YEAR(PurchaseDate), Count(Profiles.Title);

where I only count titles which have collection type "Owned" and have a collection number entered (I give a number to each purchase item, i.e. boxsets have one, child profiles have none)

Min Price:
Code: [Select]
SELECT  PurchaseInfo.CurrencyID AS [Currency], Iif(OriginalTitle<>'', OriginalTitle, Title) AS [Disc Title], PurchaseInfo.Price AS [Price]
FROM (Profiles INNER JOIN PurchaseInfo ON Profiles.ProfileID = PurchaseInfo.ProfileID)
WHERE ColNo<>'' AND ColType="Owned" AND price in (SELECT min(price) from purchaseinfo where price > 0 and year(purchaseDate)=$Year$ and currencyID="$Currency$")
 and year(purchasedate)=$Year$;
$Currency$)="SELECT CurrencyID FROM Currencies"

Max Price:
Code: [Select]
SELECT  PurchaseInfo.CurrencyID AS [Currency], Iif(OriginalTitle<>'', OriginalTitle, Title) AS [Disc Title], PurchaseInfo.Price AS [Price]
FROM (Profiles INNER JOIN PurchaseInfo ON Profiles.ProfileID = PurchaseInfo.ProfileID)
WHERE ColNo<>'' AND ColType="Owned" AND price in (SELECT max(price) from purchaseinfo where price > 0 and year(purchaseDate)=$Year$ and currencyID="$Currency$")
 and year(purchasedate)=$Year$;
$Currency$)="SELECT CurrencyID FROM Currencies"

Purchased by month:
Code: [Select]
SELECT Year, Month,sum(tit) as [# total], Sum(IIf(TagName="TV Series",Tit)) AS [# TV Sets], Sum(Iif(Medium="DVD",tit)) AS [# DVD], Sum(Iif(Medium="Blu-ray Disc", tit)) AS [# Blu-ray] FROM
(SELECT Year(PurchaseDate) as [Year], Month(PurchaseDate) as [Month], Count(title) As [tit], Medium, TagName FROM (Profiles p INNER JOIN purchaseinfo i ON i.profileid=p.profileId) left outer join (SELECT * FROM tags where tagname ="TV Series") as [t] on t.profileid=p.profileid where  ColType="Owned" and price > 0 Group by Year(PurchaseDate), Month(PurchaseDate), Medium, TagName) GROUP BY Year, Month

where I distinguish TV boxsets by setting a tag called "TV Series" and where I do not count gifts.

Hint:
In CCViewer, if you right-click on the result table of the SQL query, you can copy the result to the clipboard. You are asked to enter how the columns should be divided. If you enter "bbcode", a table which can be used in the forum is generated.

But how much of an influence has the forum had on your collections this year?
That's a cool question... Well, let's see:

I think the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog came from this forum, although the web series was released last year. Who brought it up originally? Karsten?

Let the Right One In was "recommended" by Tom. It is so good, I bought it twice (of course not, I bought it twice because the Magnolia release has terrible subtitles and they refused to suck it up).

Mario Bava Collection I + II by Jimmy with some support from Jon, I think.

The Bourne Trilogy by Jon, I think? Anyway, I don't recall anyone here disliking them...

Dead Set was originally mentioned here by Jon.

Black Christmas by Jimmy.

Fear Itself by Pete (although technically not on this forum and I think he already pointed it out to me last year).

The Gate by Jimmy.

The New York Ripper was supported by Jimmy's comments.

Castle: The Complete First Season by lovemunkey, although technically through Facebook.

I apologize if I should have any of my references wrong.

So, coming to this forum is no cheap matter

I wish I had kept track...no maybe not because of this forum I bought way too many DVDs. I don't remember who recommended most, sorry, but then you can't be blamed! I'm sure I've forgotten many but, off the top of my head:

Brick: Matthias (thanks Jon)

Due South: Tom

Opening of Misty Beethoven: Jimmy

50 First Dates: Tom (I think)

Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection: Karsten (I think) posted this when it was on sale

Mist: Jon

The Complete Monty Python Flying Circus: ?

3:10 to Yuma (1957): Roger

History of Violence: Karsten

Cloverfield: ?

Dead Like Me: The Complete Collection: ?

Awakenings: Pete (I think)

Charmed: ? I bought all 8 seasons from someone here who was upgrading

Angel: Collectors Limited Edition: ?

The Station Agent: Jon or Rich

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street: ? But definitely not Pete

Ringu: ?

Driving Miss Daisy: Tom (I think)

The Sea Inside: Eric

Angels in America: ?

Hairspray (2007): ?

Wonderfalls: ?

Tremors: Pete or Jon

House: ?

Veronica Mars: ?

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre: Antares

The Shawshank Redemption

I know there are more but I can't think without my morning coffee. I might have to give up these forums because I have even more on my wish list!

I didn't keep track what was bought because of an recommendation or review here, but I am trying anyway:

You Can't Take It With You (Jon?)
Fingersmith (?)
Tipping the Velvet (?)

I have never actually kept track in a year period how much i have added or price comparison to what i paid and what i saved. I am planning on doing this now that i see this post and find it may be an interesting endevour! Seeing as how my main goal at this point (as i am sure is the same with a lot of collectors) is replacing my well watched VHS collection..currently standing at a measly 450 now... i am able to find alot of titles at flea markets and yard sales. I may spend 1-2 dollars a piece for my little treasures! I must have added approx. 700 or so titles last year and may have spent 1000 bucks! My collection all told is around 4000 movies..of course this includes VHS DVD Blu-Ray HD and my newest addition of Laserdiscs..which I just started collecting about a year ago and has grown to almost 400 titles.
I will try to keep a good track of this stuff and see where i end up!!!

I never post the actual figures, I know, but this year has been my cheapest since 2001 and my number of titles (89) is consistent with recent years. It helped winning those vouchers of course! I didn't just spend them on DVD/Blu-Ray, but still, it was a healthy chunk.

I actually don't have any DVD year end totals, but I do have cinemas ones. I try to keep track of what I see at the cinema.

During 2010:

I went to the cinema 31 times.

I saw 22 different movies.

The movies I saw the most were Kick-Ass which I saw 4 times and Toy Story 3 which I saw 3 times.

The first movie seen was Avatar in January, and last was TRON: Legacy in December.

The movie that I enjoyed the least was Get Him to the Greek. I would give it 1/5

The movies I enjoyed the most were Toy Story 3, Kick-Ass, Animal Kingdom and Soctt Pilgrim vs the World. I would give them 5/5

The movie I enjoyed the least was The Wolfman. 3/5

The movie I enjoyed the most was Shutter Island. 4/5

I think I got 343 this year.

First this year - How I Met Your Mother - Season 4
Last - The Office - Season 5 - unless I go out tomorrow and end up getting something else.  I was tempted by a few when I was out today.

Now for the blame section ;)  Though I can't remember all of them.  With some of them, I had gone back and read some older reviews, so it wasn't always from posts this year.

The It Crowd - 3 seasons...I can't remember who talked about it.
Fanboys - ? - Maybe Karsten
Veronica Mars - 3 seasons - Maybe Karseten or Pete..or both
Brisco County Jr - I know someone talked about it at some point
Witchblade - Pete I think
1408 - ?
Donnie Darko - ?
Family Plot - Got it to add to the Hitchcock marathon even though I was horribly behind  lol
North by Northwest Blu-ray - Jon and Achim.  Jon is blamed for all my Blu-ray purchases. ;)
Dead Like Me - ?
Forbidden World - Jimmy
Galaxy of Terror - Jimmy
Piranha - Jimmy
Trick - or - Treat - Pete I think
Horror Classics - I got for the Halloween marathon ..though I didn't get to many of them this year.
Slumber Party Massacre - Jimmy
Humanoids From the Deep - Jimmy
Doctor Who Season 1 - probably a few of you, but Jon officially accepted blame in another thread...so...Jon ;)

I think that is it.  though I may have missed a few.  And there are more I'll probably get later.

My total is now 344.  I didn't go out, but an order arrived sooner than expected.

Bored to Death Season 1 on Blu-ray.  I ordered it after it was shared that Amazon had the HBO sets on sale. Kevin posted about the sale I think.  Oh...that posting also led to my mom buying Band of Brothers and The Pacific.
Also..Jon because it is a Blu-ray.  I have to stay consistent here. ;)

Since 2008 I've been entering actual purchase prices in DVD Profiler. I'm always using the price I actually paid in my own currency (€), including shipping costs, customs and so on.

I also always removed the SRP value because that has no merit for me.

Yesterday I did two more things. Firstly I scanned all my online shopping history and entered all the data I could find on the years 2002-2007.Now 579 out of my 1042 purchase item have an actual purchase price.

I also re-used the SRP field to enter the original item price in the original currency. Now 647 out of 1042 items have an "SRP".

Oh boy, I shouldn't have done that.

Total costs of these 579 items: 8854.88 EUR (Avg 15.29 EUR)

Karsten, our totals are very close! I added 141 to my collection this year. Mind you, although I'm seriously over my budget (the most since 2006 and almost twice what I spent last year or the year before :bag:), you spent far more than me. I don't keep track of purchase price for my movies (lest my wife should ever discover that grossly obscene total) but I do know I added 1,140 dvd movies or sets to my collection this year. My Bluray statistics are kind of suspect but I am certain I have acquired well over 600 Blu-Rays in 2011 as I currently sit at 901 in my collection and I only started collecting them around the 4th quarter of 2010.

Some orders are still not delivered, but the total purchases in 2011 is 225, which made this the year with most purchases since I started collecting :bag:. (Although, looking at that phpDVDProfiler chart makes we wonder if there is a problem somehow, since 2009 is shown with less than half of that (109), which seems a bit low :hmmmm:) More than half of my purchases in 2011 were Blu-rays.

I managed to buy nothing throughout February, July and August.

First: Apocalypse Now (Three-Discs Full Disclosure)

Last: Godzilla (The Criterion Collection) [pre-order]

Possible since a lot of movie moved to 2011 from me too when I create a custom identifier. Maybe there is a bug that reset the purchase date when we move them

You can also check if you have any conditionals in the localsiteconfig.php. For examply I only count profiles that have a purchase price > 0.00 to filter out all child profiles of TV sets.

I do indeed have a bunch of conditions in effect, thanks or the pointer!

However, I double checked in DVD Profiler and it seems reasonable. Looks like 2009 was the one year I actually managed to cut down my purchases

I don't really have a number on my collection. I started collection somewhere in 2001 (My first DVD was Braveheart) but I wasn't the bookkeeper I'm now.

I filled in some numbers of DVDs I found in my Amazon history (Amazon is keeping track of your purchase from the dawn of time) but other numbers are missing until the end of 2007.

With everything for which I do have numbers I paid €12,135.57 in total.

By years:
2008: €1,628.60
2009: €1,869.30
2010: €1,586.10
2011: €1,755.48
2012 so far: €2013.55

Which means a difference of €5,038.02 are Amazon purchases in the years 2001-2007. In these years there are 417 out of 595 purchase items without a price. There's no probable extrapolation of the true purchase price since I have numbers on all the high price items (14 seasons of Star Trek TNG/DS9 for €100 each) but not the regular movies. So it wouldn't be fair to simply triple the number which I do have. But adding another €7,000 doesn't seem out of reach.

I've also give away many DVDs already, among them 10 seasons of Stargate for which I also paid roughly €900.

That means I paid roughly €20,000 for my collection so far.

Total cost of collection: $33,344.01 since starting in 2000.

So far in 2012, I've made only 62 purchases and spent $644.09! A very bad year, indeed!

FYI, I retired in early 2010!

I don't keep track of price paid. Too scary :-[

My purchase totals have reduced again though.
2010: 879
2011: 727
2012: 715

I have a lot going on work wise over the next few months so I doubt I'll even purchase many in 2013 until May. ;)

This year i havent kept track of how much money i've spent on my movies.
And i think that might be for the best. With over 400+ movies bought this
year, i dont want to know how much i've spent on my movies. Prolly around
something near the £7000 mark?  :-[ I hope thats wrong tho.

I am still not comfortable to go into too much detail about the year-end-totals, but I am happy to see, that I am down to approx. 100 purchased items in 2015 from 142 in 2014 (and 168 in 2013). Some sort of saturation point seems to have been achieved.

Using DVD Profiler I can go back to 1999 and be pretty accurate about it. Something about "Number of Entries" and "Count As" poses a bit of uncertainty here; box sets might muddle the numbers....

So, I'll have to amend, that yesterday's numbers did in fact not refer to purchased items but to "Movies" and "TV Seasons".

Just now I realize that I may have been using "Count As" wrongly, as it's purpose may have been for these stats... I'll have to investigate some more, maybe spend the to adjust all of it... :( I previously set the Count As for "unwatchable items" like Box Sets to 0 and for discs with more than one item to the item number. For TV series I set the discs to 0 but the season parent profile to 1. I was concentrating on being able to find out how many unwatched items I have. I'll have to rethink my approach on all of this.

Although these totals may not be totally accurate as I have decided to sell off the vast majority of my collection. But of the ones I will retain this is all of them.

Although....., I consider to do some heavy pruning myself at some not too distant point. There is just too much stuff I will never watch again and I might just as well get rid of them.

Exactly.

Plus I have just moved into a flat, so just do not have the space.

2015 End Statistics:

New Purchase Items: 110 (131 in 2014)
I am still not comfortable to go into too much detail about the year-end-totals, but I am happy to see, that I am down to approx. 100 purchased items in 2015 from 142 in 2014 (and 168 in 2013). Some sort of saturation point seems to have been achieved.

I'm back to my 2008 value (which was the first year of recorded history for this statistic ;))

2008: 109
2009: 141
2010: 131
2011: 144
2012: 193
2013: 127
2014: 131
2015: 110

2016: 144
2017: 108

Tally in USD: 123.68
Tally in EUR: 745.89
Tally in GBP: 114.85

Final tally (what I actually paid) in €: 1060.07

I just took a look how I fared the last few years since I last posted her.
And the last two years I averaged on only buying one Blu-ray per month!  :bag:

Mostly I only keep up with Superhero movies.

While I certainly averaged more than one per month, I did reduce the total purchased. I don't have DVD Profiler open right now to look, but I think I bought less than 150 this year (maybe even close to 100(, down from over 200 the previous years.
