Title: 2012 October Horror Marathon (Discussion thread)
Post by: Jimmy on September 24, 2012, 06:27:59 PM
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ViJeVos51uI/UFXyvgwq0II/AAAAAAAAAw0/VU_mWhg6qmQ/s576/2012DVDCHHM.jpg)

I felt it was the time to open it even if it is a little bit early, but some of us are ready to start and want to see the october first happenning faster...

Most people know the drill, but just in case you don't...

The goal is to watch horror movies (DUH!) during this month. How many movies you'll watch isn't important (but it's always fun to break our personal record) and what you'll watch isn't either (film, TV episode, documentary,...). What is important is to have fun... anyway this is what we always want here.

This topic is the one to post your reviews and discussion about the marathon. Of course you are free to create your own marathon thread as I and Pete do every year.

Another thread is for the scorecard of what you'll watch.

P.S : Karsten I count on you to stick this thread and the scorecard one.

I am thinking about participating a little for the first time. I am not much of a horror movie fan. But I could do a mini-marathon. I have a handful of movies I am the mood to watch again.

You can always place some science fiction films if horror isn't your favorite genre. As long as it has alien invaders it count... even something like Plan 9 or Earth vs. the Flying Saucers or The Pod People would do the trick.

I made a list (http://www.dvdcollectorsonline.com/index.php/topic,7886.msg157848.html#msg157848) of movies which I am considering to watch. I will certainly not manage to watch all of them, but if there is a movie someone would like me to review, I will consider giving it a higher priority.

Thanks Sam and Jim! And sorry for the post! :)
No problem, I just prefer to keep it clean of discussion because it's more pleasant for the eyes when all the score cards are one after the other.

And i'll think i will try to join aswell with my own "Horrorfest list"
I expected to see you enter as you seem to be a big horror fan ;D

In case someone recognized the place in the picture... we never know some don't live that far from there.

It's an abandoned subway station at Newark (NJ), you can learn more about it here (http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/abandoned/cedarst.html).

See even an horror marathon is an opportunity for learning

I never make a list ahead of time. I just watch whatever I am in the mood for when the time comes. I have my old favorites that I must watch every year... and then I have a load of horror in my collection that I never seen before. Not to mention all the Halloween episodes of many... many TV Series that I have to watch.

I never make a list ahead of time.
Same for me... Sure I have a pile of unwatched movie that I've removed from my shelves to watch but this does not necessarily mean I'll watch them all...

By exemple I skip this one every years since 2008

But Maybe I'll watch Lizzie Borden II again as it wasn't that bad :hmmmm:

If you buy it cheap (and not brand new at release day as I did) the movie worth a try. I found it a lot better than the first one, but of course it isn't that hard to do

The review I did in 2009 (http://www.dvdcollectorsonline.com/index.php/topic,695.msg86322.html#msg86322)

I guess I would buy a third part, but I doubt highly that one will be made.

That is quite a good list you have there.

I will not join at all this year. I will watch horror whenever thew mood hits, of course, but since I not only do a hiking trip from 10/6 thru 10/9 I also will go to Germany starting October 18, so I won't even try to see how far I can get until then. Good luck to all who try to break any of their previous records

I formatted a new review template for my horror marathon... fashioned after the current one some of us has been using....

Writing:Janice Fischer (Story By), James Jeremias (Story By), Janice Fischer (Screenwriter), James Jeremias (Screenwriter), Jeffrey Boam (Screenwriter)
Length:97 min.
Rating:R
Video:Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1
Audio:English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, French: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo, Commentary: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo
Subtitles:English, French, Spanish

Stars:
Jason Patric as Michael
Corey Haim as Sam
Dianne Wiest as Lucy
Barnard Hughes as Grandpa
Edward Herrmann [Ed Herrmann] as Max
Kiefer Sutherland as David

Plot:
Sam and his older brother Michael are all-American teens with all-American interests. But after they move with their mother to peaceful Santa Carla, California, things mysteriously begin to change. Michael's not himself lately. And Mom's not going to like what he's turning into.

The Lost Boys reshapes vampire tradition, deftly mixing heart-pounding terror, rib-tickling laughs and a body-gyrating rock soundtrack. Under Joel Schumacher's direction, a marvelous cast - Jason Patric, Jami Gertz, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, Barnard Hughes and Edward Herrmann - stakes you to gleefully ghoulish entertainment.

My Rating
Out of a Possible 5

Count:
Movie Count: 0
TV Ep. Count: 0
Other Count: 0

I experimented with some horror/Halloween bars to replace the horizontal lines.... but it really threw off the look of the review so scrapped it.... and ended up with the above. I still need to work on something for the TV Show episodes I review.

So does this mean you really didn't like the film?  The skull and cross bones can't be a good indicator :)

 That isn't a review... that is just a blank entry from the template! The skull and crossbones will look just like the stars currently do. For example they will look something more like...

I have only been to Munich twice in my life and never for the Octoberfest.

I will go to Octoberfest on Ocober 16, a German restaurant in the area does that or three weeks, incl. a small typical band. With a group of Taiwanese friends it's actually quite fun...

Not for me though. I don't really have a favourite genre, but among my least-favourites you'll find "Horror".
In my collection one will nevertheless find a certain amount from this genre, but they mostly are there even though, and not because, they are "Horror".

less than 3 hours and finally I will watch much better movies than all those mainstream productions I've listen recently... God that Miami Vice film was awfully bad and boring :yucky:
