1) The Tale of the Phantom Cab
Two brothers, Denny and Buzz Crocker, get lost in the woods, and come across a mysterious cab driver, Flynn, and a very unusual man, a reclusive backwoods scientist by the name of Dr. Vink, who won't let any of his victims go unless they solve a riddle: “What is lighter than air, can be seen by the naked eye, and if you put it into a barrel, it will make the barrel lighter?”

My Thoughts:

One of the more memorable episodes. It definitely kicks off the series with a bang! I still can't help but jump every time I see Flynn's head do a 180!!

It's spook, it's weird, and it has one of the more famous characters - Dr.Vink.
Sweet!

2) The Tale of Laughing in the Dark
An arrogant boy called Josh decides to prove to his friend Weegee and sister Kathy that a fun house isn't haunted by stealing the nose of the clown dummy who is supposed to haunt the place. He learns that the story isn't fiction when Zeebo, a petty criminal who, during the 1920’s, stole some charity money from the circus and was burned alive in the funhouse where he hid from the authorities before he accidentally started a fire with his cigars, pays him a little visit as he comes to collect his nose.

My Thoughts:

Ok, no one say a word! Yes, this episode is about a ghost clown, and yes, I came this close to screaming. Its.....its scary, but thats coming from me. :bag:

I have to say, I still enjoyed it. Just seeing a bully getting whats coming to him.

3) The Tale of the Lonely Ghost
A girl, Amanda Cameron, goes to stay with her Aunt Dottie and desperately wants to be friends with her snotty cousin, Beth, and her group of friends agrees to spend the night in the haunted house next door, which is rumored to be haunted by the spirit of a preteen girl, to become part of the group. Beth’s nanny tries to warn Amanda to stay away from that place.

My Thoughts:

My favorite episode by far. A brat gets put in her place, a ghost gets some help, and it just has an overall creepy feel!

As you can see by the picture above, they did a really good job with the make-up, especially for a kid series. The writers even dug deeper into the characters of the kids who tell the stories because of a little romance going on.

4) The Tale of the Twisted Claw
In a twist of "The Monkey's Paw," two boys, Dougie Freeman and Kevin, scare an old lady who lives in a creepy house, Miss Clove, to death the night before Halloween just as the next night they trick or treat at her house and she gives them a special treat, a hand granting them three wishes apiece, but they soon find out that the wishes come true, but at a terrifying price.

My Thoughts:

Your usual wishes-gone-wrong story. It was enjoyable for a few scary twists and nicely set at Halloween.

5) The Tale of the Hungry Hounds
Two girls, Amy Pease and Pam, go to an attic where Pam tries on an old horse-riding jacket that belonged to a dead aunt, Dora Pease, which is possessed by her spirit, who must feed her starving dogs in order to rest in peace.

My Thoughts:

Another memorable episode. I love the country setting and the use of the Ouija board. The show seems to neglect that using it is said to open portals between earth and the dead, also making things 10X worse if you destroy it, but I wouldn't expect it to.

Possesion, always a cool thing. The thing with riding horses was cool too, but I was left with one question. What happened to the stable keeper's ghost? He was never seen again after he spooks Dora and Amy.

6) The Tale of the Super Specs
Weeds, a prankster, buys his friend Marybeth a pair of super spec glasses from Sardo’s magic shop as part of an April's Fool Day where once she places on the glasses, strange figures covered in black living among humans appear and can't be explained.

My Thoughts:

Ok, let me get this straight -  evil x-ray glasses? Well, this is also the debut of another famous character - Sardo. Him and Dr.Vink really are a pair! I just wish I was a writer working on this, I have a few running jokes that would have been funnier than "That's Sar-Do, no mister, accent on the 'Do'!" ::)

This episode is all about seeing another dimension within our own. Definitely, one of the weirder ones. It doesn't make much sense to me, I mean, seeing something and opening portals are two different things. Moving on, why do girls in horror shows scream so much? Its people dressed in black, she sees. Not creatures, not ghosts. People in black. The viewpoint, the show. Pretty good, but just plain weird!

7) The Tale of the Captured Souls
A family, Danny, Doug, and Sally Sellman, moves to a lakeside resort headed by a young man, Peter Kirlan III, who hates getting his picture taken and uses the mirrors in the resort house to steal the family members' souls and stay young forever, causing the family to feel weaker every day.

My Thoughts:

It was pretty good. The whole "Mirrors/cameras steal your soul" thing really isn't a new concept. Its like it was in the intro, native tribes often believed in that stuff. It was cool howe in make-up they should the parents aging gradually at an accelerated rate. Still, I like my shows to be scary, and this is another one that is more weird than scary, but I can expect that in most shows.

I especially like how they portrayed Danni, using logic to see what adults can.

"Its just faulty wiring."

"In a mirror??"

8 ) The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors
Emma and Dayday Toll suspect that their new neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Braun and their son Lex, may be vampires when people in town start to get sick. The Brauns are originally from Eastern Europe, wear black, collect blood, and only are active at night.

My Thoughts:

This was the first vampire episode of the set, and my father won't let it go!! :slaphead: Don't worry! I'm saving Nosferatu for you!!

Anyways, this really stood out from the others because

9) The Tale of the Sorceror's Apprentice
Dean Berkham, a high school outcast, awakens an ancient secret hidden in the school about an evil wizard named Goth after a lesson with Dr. Oliver. After his friend, Alix, discovers what's going on and is the only one that knows, and it's up to her alone to not only save Dean, but stop him from releasing the evil sorcerer.

My Thoughts:

Well, this was better than I remembered it! The culture behind the magic is pretty dead on if you're into myths. For example, any of you know Disney's Hercules? The screwed that up so much, especially his origin! No such problem here. All the mythology, the coming of Goth, the spices used, everything - even the science - just clicked. Realism, as nutty as it may sound, is pretty important in fiction in my eyes.

The moral of the show is a test of friendship, as most stories like this go. I have to say - well done.

10) The Tale of Jake and the Leprechaun
Jake Joysen is excited to be part of a play by genius writer Erin, a show called “Will o’ The Wisp,” a story about a boy changed into a leprechaun by a benevolent sprite. Soon Jake notices some unusual changes, and Sean O’Shaney, a seller of herbs, informs him that Erin may be a banshee who is transforming Jake into a changeling.

My Thoughts:

Ok, I have to get my dad to watch this, I don't think I'm spoiling much here, but there is a scene where Jake has to swallow spiders. Sound yummy, dad? :tease: Ok, enough poking fun at arachnophobia, time to get back to the review.

Another good one. Being half Irish, I really enjoyed the past leprechauned-up movies I've seen, that simply adding to it. Here you mix in pixies (not faries!) and banshees too. A spell in the playcreates twists in the boy's life, and again the story styling is dead on.

It is here I'd like to point out the difference between pixies and fairies. If pixies were always fair, then you would call them fairies. Ergo - they're EVIL! Always good to have cultural callbacks!

I'm sorry to draw away from the marathon, but I just want to do this one thing.

Many of you may know that I'm a writer-in-training. I recently wrote a Halloween piece, and since this is probably the most active thread of mine for the purpose of Halloween, it'll be up in a minute.

Tell me what you think! Enjoy!

Marvel Zombies

Halloween Again

***As Told in the Perspective of Zombie Spider-Man***

Halloween again. I miss the sight of Trick-or-Treaters running free in New York. I miss the smell of candy corn and caramel apples around Times Square. I even miss douchy teenagers egging people's cars, and that I used to web them up just to teach them a lesson. Now … I'm living in Halloween. I live in a world where the greatest of heroes are cannibals. Where even the most kind-hearted person is a monster when the hunger strikes.

The things I've seen – the things I've done – that's true horror. My wife … she used to dress up every year just to do something different. Just to have fun. I know, everything I do reminds me of Mary Jane. She brought a flair to every party she went to. I always thought of myself as being lucky enough to go with her! Now … oh god … she's gone and I … I … I can't even think of it …

It's too horrible. The streets should be lit. Jack-O-Lanterns should be on so many doorsteps I get sick from the smell of pumpkin. Everyone puts on a costume and pretends to be monsters. All I see is monsters – every day of my life. I won't even take off my mask. I can't risk seeing my reflection, seeing what I've become. I remember a few years back. I saw so many kids in Spider-Man costumes I turned red. I miss seeing little fairy princesses. I miss the vampiresses and werewolves. God, I miss seeing those kids. The future is what they were. Every one of them is gone now. Every last one.

I've seen that happen, you know. I've been there too, too many times to count. The hunger is unstoppable. These monsters, they used to be heroes. Now we eat whatever human remains we can find. It feels so good, too. Just tearing through someone's flesh, feeling their skin against your teeth – even if they are decaying. Feeling the blood splatter against your mouth, hearing their screams at the mere sight of you – listening as it becomes even more desperate once you become close enough to bite. I remember thinking that the kids were the tastiest. The youth in their blood was the most delicious of all.

The true curse of being a zombie is that you regain your humanity after a meal. You remember the time when you were five and you got lost at a shopping mall. You remember your first kiss. You remember your family. Worst of all, you remember all the horrific things you've done. The lives you've destroyed. You try to escape this reality, but you can't. All you can do is remember. What you did every day. What you did with your family. What you talked about with your friends. What you did on the holidays.

I remember one Halloween, Mary Jane dressed as a vampiress. She was so hot, and I really loved her. More than anything. She even laughed along as I dressed as Spider-Man … again. That year she took me to a public ball that the old mayor threw. On the way home, she laughed so hard when I pranked these teenagers for the graffiti that she actually jumped out like a real vampiress and scared them to death! We walked a little more and saw a girl in a version of my costume. Her friends abandoned her. MJ gave me the look and I knew what to do. I showed her the time of her life as Spider-Man and took her home.

That kid … I remember her death. She was so innocent. I couldn't stop myself. I remember she was holding on to a little plush doll that looked like what I used to be. I still can't believe there will be no more kids. No more family, but there will be love. That is just really cruel. I really liked that kid, but … now she is only food …

Oh, LISTEN TO ME! What kind of monster would do that? Would think like this?

Oh yeah … I would …

Halloween. A time for kids and a time for monsters. The scary part of this is that it's not just a nightmare. This is real. All the memories, but no chance of happiness – for one moment – ever again. That's horror.

Happy Halloween.

11) The Tale of the Dark Music
Andy Carr and his mom and sister, Christina, moves to his uncle’s old house in a new neighborhood where things don't start out well with a neighborhood boy, Koda, until he figures out that there's something hidden inside his basement when he sees a carnival barker come out to feed when he plays music on the radio.

My Thoughts:

Your basic "boogey man in the dark" story. Pretty humorus, some things that come out of the dark, and what's really ironic?

12) The Tale of the Prom Queen
In this take on the “vanishing hitchhiker” urban legend, two boys, Jam and Greg, befriend a young woman, Dede (Katie Griffin), where they encourage her to join them in trying to solve the mystery behind a prom queen's death, who was a victim of a hit and run accident while waiting for her boyfriend, Ricky Mitchell, to pick her up for prom in 1956.

My Thoughts:

A real favorite! Nothing can beat a good-old-fashioned local ghost story!! I have to admit, the Legend of the Ghost Bride was running through my head the whole time I was watching this. (Which is my inspiration for this year's Halloween costume) It was a story from an old cartoon I loved, "Hey Arnold!"

Despite my familiarity, this show really creeps you out if you're alone in a dark room! My recomendations! ;D

13) The Tale of the Pinball Wizard
Ross Campbell, a mischievous kid who is obsessed with pinball, finds himself trapped in the mall at closing time after he loses track of time when working at a repair shop for Mr. Olson—and the protagonist of a real life pinball game. He must use all of his skills to escape the enchanted mall and save Princess Sophie, but soon learns that he is not the only one playing.

My Thoughts:

So, let me get this straight, an evil pinball game? Ok.....

A pretty basic episode. There were some fun parts and a twist in the end, but average overall.

14) The Tale of the Final Wish
Jill Petterson, a thirteen year old girl, who loves unicorns and fairy tales, learns that they are not what they are cracked up to be when she wishes that she could be in a fairy tale word forever and The Sandman transports her to a world where her mom, dad, brother Jon, and friends are cursed to sleep forever and all her favorite fairy tale characters are out to get her

My Thoughts:

I remember this. A world of dreams. Pretty much the fairy tale episode of the bunch. Very weird, but a nice story of another example of "Wishes Gone Bad".

15) The Tale of the Midnight Madness
Pete Matt and Katie Halloron want to save a dying theater, so they let Dr. Vink, show a special version of the vampire classic "Nosferatu" (1922), which draws in big audiences - and brings the movie vampire to life when the theater manager, Mr. Kristoph, refuses to honor the deal for the film.

My Thoughts:

A very memorable episode! Nosferatu in present TV shows? And here I thought they always skipped to Dracula!!

Dr.Vink coming back is always a good trait in this series, and I wish there were more episodes with him, but I can only think of one other time...and we have a long wait....

So, here we have some old school horror and a little bit of comedy where the strange Dr. Vink shows up. One of the better ones!

16) The Tale of Locker 22
A young girl is assigned a locker that takes her back to 1968, where she must save a hippie girl named Candy Warren who died in a chemistry lab explosion.

My Thoughts:

A pretty fun episode...especially loved how the kids were making fun of the 60s talk.  Groovy, totally boss!

I always loves me a good ghost story! Pretty cool...above average at the least. Truth be told, I'm not sure if you can call this 100% a ghost story, because there is no ghost, is a ghost-like possesion thing when a girl puts on a necklace.Still a good plot, but a little off to me.

17) The Tale of the 13th Floor
Two siblings discover an elevator floor filled with strange toys and games — and alien parents who want their daughter back.

My Thoughts:

Our first alien story of the series and it takes place at ... a toy company...

Its ok, very ... colorful? Yeah, to me that shouldn't happen in an alien show. But, a twist at the end helps spice things up. An ok episode.

18) The Tale of the Dream Machine
An aspiring writer finds a typewriter that makes everything written come true, including a story about the death of his best friend.

My Thoughts:

First thing I need to point out, a good use of foreshadowing. The last author who used the magic typewriter died. Very cool.

On with the episode ... a typewriter that can make what you write happen in your dreams or someone else's, for real if you read it aloud. Maybe it just should have come true. Example? Goosebumps. "The Blob that Ate Everyone". Isk, I just see a lot of missed oppertunities. Still a good story, though.

19) The Tale of the Dark Dragon
Based on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a teenage boy (still bitter from the accident that caused his disability) buys a strange magical potion from Sardo's magic shop that makes him the coolest kid in his school, but also brings out a demon born from his anger and self-loathing.

My Thoughts:
Ok, the return of Sar-Do. This time with a confidence potion. The Dark Dragon being a metaphor (more or less) for a person's inner doubts, it was a fine story with a good job done in the make-up department.

20) The Tale of the Frozen Ghost
Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch star Melissa Joan Hart guest stars in this story about a spoiled boy and his babysitter who while visiting the boy's aunts are haunted by the ghost of a boy who froze to death.

My Thoughts:

I have to say this: Whoo-hoo! Guest stars Melissa Joan Hart! I loved watching Sabrina!! :yahoo:

So, another ghost story. Actually, its two, nicely connected. A great change of pace from the strange and magical. Was it too much to ask for more classic ghost/monster stories? After watching the others, the ghost factor here brings up the creepy-meter! Great show!

21) The Tale of the Whispering Walls
A babysitter and her two charges get lost on the way from a carnival. When their car breaks down, the babysitter goes inside to use their telephone. The children soon learn that the house is haunted by the ghosts of visitors who went in, but never came out.

My Thoughts:

Here you get an old superstition coming back at you about a full moon on leap year. Kinda creepy. Well, for a lot of this, I have no idea what's going on. Turns out, its all about the house. I've seen the plot before, but this one is a little brain-busting - at least to me. But walls that talk, a creepy owner, a baby blanket full of snakes -  no one can deny that its scary .......... or at least really weird......

22) The Tale of the Full Moon
Two young pet detectives suspect a neighbor of being a werewolf after cats begin disappearing from the neighborhood.

My Thoughts:
Our first and only werewolf episode. The make-up could've been better, but the pet detective saw the meat in the fridge and figures he's a ..... pet carnovore.

I really enjoyed the twist ending. Suprise suprise!!

A little more comedic than I would expect a werewolf show to be, but very fun.

23) The Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle
A teen, still traumatized by his best friend's death, begins seeing the boy's ghost and his beloved bicycle.

My Thoughts:

This I found really heart-tugging. In this ghost story, how the boy died really gets to you. A real story about friendship. That's all you can say about it, really. I mean, the ghost is creepy but he's really for an emotional purpose. I can't help but think of a girl who died as an old friend of Lana in Smallville's early seasons. (I know its early, I've only sat down and watched seasons 1-3)

In any case, an excellent episode.

24) The Tale of the Magician's Assistant
A young boy, Todd, becomes an assistant to the great magician Shandu and learns the rules of being a magician: Only let the audience see what you want them to see, never touch another magician's wand unless he hands it to you, and never get caught in your own reflection. But trouble ensues when Todd makes an unwise decision to take Shandu's wand and use it for himself.

My Thoughts:

It was ok, really a played-out "Magic is real" plot. The "Rules of Magic" was a nice touch, and the classic switch-a-roo worked out nicely with a tree limb and a certain wand!

25) The Tale of the Hatching
Two siblings are sent to a boarding school where the students are brainwashed into caring for mutant reptiles' eggs, who are bent on world domination.

My Thoughts:

As it turns out, these guys are a race that neared extinction, but to me it definitely had an alien feel to it, doesn't it? Remember a few posts back where I was complaining the 13th Floor was too colorful for an alien show? Yup! This is more like it! Eggs hatching at the school, mind-control in the desserts, scales and slime - yup! This is an ideal alien show in my book, even if they are just monsters. ;)

I just wish you get to see them in full form...

26) The Tale of Old Man Corcoran
Two brothers join a group that plays hide and seek in a graveyard that is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of the old caretaker.

My Thoughts:

Very creepy ghost tale. Nice graveyard setting, a crazy groundskeeper and a story that sends chills down your spine when you hear a harmonica! I just think its stupid of the kids to actually go back there a second time. All over a game of hide and seek....

27) The Tale of the Midnight Ride
A boy moves to Sleepy Hollow, where he learns the truth about—and comes face-to-faceless with—The Headless Horseman.

My Thoughts:

First off, two cast members left, so Gary's brother takes over in a spot to tell a modern case of the Headless Horseman.

I remember the old legend and the love triangle is very similar. Points for accuracy. But, c'mon. Is that guy really gonna believe everyone at the dance stole the Headless Horseman's pumpkin? That's just stupid.. Although, it is a fair modern story on an old ghostly legend. Very enjoyable!

28) The Tale of Apartment 214
A girl befriends an old woman who died on the day someone promised to be with her, but never came. History repeats itself when the girl breaks her promise to the old lady and is haunted by her angry spirit.

My Thoughts:

Another ghost story. (I must be getting lucky, right? ;D )

A story of friendship and a broken promise. Pretty moving, really. When I watch this, I can't help but think of my grandmother. The ghost was so upset when the girl wasn't there on the anniversary of her death. A very scary/relatable episode.

In 1919, three campers got lost in Watcher's Woods and vanished, leaving behind their whistles. Decades later, two girls are paired together for a summer camp hike—and find themselves in Watcher's Woods where they encounter three witches who used to be the lost girls.

My Thoughts:

Some woods where people never return from. Nice campfire story. I have to admit, some of the effects are pretty cool, like a face in a tree and the old women. Definitely creepy and a good introduction to yet another new member of the cast, Sam

Two prank phone callers get hunted down by a vigilante group who capture and erase the existence of anyone who mistreats the phone.

My Thoughts:

Ok, at the begining I caught a glimpse of the 90s cell phone. Yikes! Times have changed! Here I was wondering why they don't show this on Nickelodeon anymore, but I guess it's been longer than I thought!

So, police who arrest you when you misuse the phone ... a real cheesy concept, but done well. I especially admired the rescue scene.

31) The Tale of the Dollmaker
A girl who is distraught over the disappearance of her friend finds a mysterious doll house whose front door matches one she uncovers behind wallpaper in the attic. Through the door, she finds her missing friend who is slowly turning into a china doll.

My Thoughts:

An odd story. I personally always hated dolls, especiually ones with glass eyes. Always felt like they were watching me. My "dolls are trouble" theory is proved here! The doll make-up, as usual, iss also impressive here. Good episode all in all.

32) The Tale of the Bookish Babysitter
A TV-obsessed boy is left with a babysitter who teaches the child the wonders of reading—by using magic to take him inside the stories.

My Thoughts:

I look here and see a new Nanny McPhee with a thing for magic books. She's definitely a clever babysitter. Funny I should see this after reading another book myself.

This is a really fun episode. Mixing knioghts and ghosts? An unusual but interesting combo!

33) The Tale of the Carved Stone
A new girl in town, desperately trying to find friends, buys a stone from Sardo's magic shop that takes her back in time to the 1890s, where she meets another lonely youth who lived in her family's new home.

My Thoughts:

Uh-oh. Sardo is back!! Not bad, a story about a magic charm. The time travel was interesting, and leave it to Sardo to provide comic relief! I think a major oppertunity was missed, though. How about Alison gaining magic powers from the stone? Anything can happen with magic, after all. Still pretty good, though.

34) The Tale of the Guardian's Curse
Two kids accidentally resurrect a mummified Egyptian queen at their father's museum.

My Thoughts:

I remember how much I loved studying mummies and Egypt in 6th grade. Some of the legends, not to mention the torture devices, slavery, and mummification process was positively gruesome!!

As far as the episode itself, your basic mummy story twisted with the symbol of life and the ring of eternity. Very interesting. A twist at the end brightens the mood and gets a laugh or two!!

35) The Tale of the Curious Camera
A boy receives a camera that predicts misfortune for anything and anyone photographed by it.

My Thoughts:

A camera that makes bad things happen. I remember a similar episode from Goosebumps. I appreciate the efforts of revenge, because watching "Say Cheese and Die" all the kid tries to do is reverse the effects.

Also, great idea with the Gremlin photos. I always loved the gremlins. The end was fun, but now I feel the evil camera was done so many times before, a little boring.

36) The Tale of the Dream Girl
A teen named Johnny discovers a ring and after putting it on, begins seeing a girl that he falls in love with. He soon learns though she died in a car accident.

My Thoughts:

A ghost story. You'd think that by now I'd be sick of these, but this is a real cool story of high school love. Although the end twist I think is highly predictable, the show itself was very enjoyable.

37) The Tale of the Quicksilver

A story about two boys haunted by an evil spirit and a girl who died trying to ward him off.

My Thoughts:

A quicksilver, pretty similar to a poltergeist. Casting spells always interested me, I'll admit. The story show how not knowing what to do can turn your magic against you. In other words, if you're gonna do magic, do it right!! Very entertaining.

38) The Tale of the Crimson Clown
A young bratty boy learns a lesson when an evil clown doll comes to life and starts to terrorize him.

My Thoughts:

No one make any jokes. I'm serious. A doll that is a clown. *shivers* Creepy.

I like the idea of a little punk getting what's coming to him, but the clown thing is just cruel. I would also like to point out an excellent call-back. A "Zeebo's Big House" dvd, obviously referring to Episode 2, "The Tale of Laughing in the Dark". The ending, however, is reminescent of "The Christmas Carol" .... but with a clown.

39) The Tale of the Dangerous Soup
Dr. Vink is back and running a restaurant where a demon harvests the fear from their employees, including guest star Neve Campbell, as the main ingredient for a popular dish.

My Thoughts:

Whoa! Dr.Vink makes a come back! As a chef! A soup made directly from fear. The proccess is fun, but a little slow at times. It may know what scares you, but it also apparently is able to be in two places at once! So, the talismon thing flys out and is there to scre the kids? Makes no sense to me, but still kinda fun.

40) The Tale of Cutter's Treasure (1)
Two brothers unleash the spirit of a ruthless pirate named Jonas Cutter after unlocking an antique treasure chest in Sardo's Magic Mansion. Charles S. Dutton guest stars as Jonas Cutter.

My Thoughts:

A pirate story. Can't say I've been interested, read one book and saw one movie on the subject, so my expectations weren't high. However, this part really builds up a mystery with a spyglass. Suspensful. To think, a mysterious pirate ghost story!

P.S., There's a hint of who's to come before it ends! And the magic set? A Shandu set. Referring back to "The Tale of the Magician's Assistant".

41) The Tale of Cutter's Treasure (2)

When Cutter kidnaps one of the brothers, it's up to the other to save him and avenge the death of their great-grandfather killed by Cutter himself.

My Thoughts:

Yes! Sardo and Dr.Vink! Together at last! The "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" dream team! And Dr.Vink's business card? The "Wild Boar Coiffure", as in, the brain of a wild boar from the first episode, "The Tale of the Phantom Cab".  ;D I catch on quick. At least boy was the first to get Dr.Vink's name right!!

As for the episode itself, it was exciting! The boy learned how to truly punish the ghost, a nice episode all in all. I think it fulfills what the first part was leading up to.

42) The Tale of the Renegade Virus

A boy places a virus in his brother's computer game as a prank, and faces a real virus who tries to escape into the real world by taking over the boy's brain.

My Thoughts:

A virus really wiped-out info from my desktop computer. I had most everything backed up, but they still suck.

Having a virus in your brain? Yikes! The virtual reality thing was interesting. Can't say its my favorite, but still cool.

43) The Tale of the Quiet Librarian
Two children discover that their local library is haunted by the ghost of a stereotypical old librarian (named Mercy Mae Gregor) who steals the voices of all loud children to teach them that silence is golden - by means of a spooky-looking noise collection box that sucks in a voice or other sound instantly, leaving the person completely mute; her recent young victims are trapped in a dusty, tomb-like reading room of the library. It's up to the two kids to stop her and rescue the kids from being walking mute corpses.

My Thoughts:

This I find hard to believe, as my school librarian is quite the chatterbox herself! :P

All I can say is these kids have been studying in silence for a long time! The silence thing is really odd, though. Not scary, just odd. Kind of a ghost story, kind of not. Like all of the episodes of the show it's enjoyable, you just need to remain silent. :)

44) The Tale of the Water Demons
Two cousins deliver food to an old man who stole jewelry from a shipwreck and is now haunted by the victims' ghosts.

My Thoughts:

Lesson learned - DON'T steal from the DEAD! The make-up was especially good here. The water demons looked like what I imagine drowning victims would look like. Trust me, you don't wanna fall asleep!  ;)

45) The Tale of the Long Ago Locket
A lovelorn boy that gets lost in the forest, and finds himself in the Revolutionary War, where he must help a soldier return to his love before she gets married to another man.

My Thoughts:

This is almost time travel, so close to it! I mean, I know the old saying "those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it", but geez! But, how does the boy's modern clothes make the others think him a Minute Man? The plan to save the Liutennant from the noose was real smart. This show is one way to stay awake inn history class!

46) The Tale of the Silent Servant
Two cousins, Ann and Jared, use a magic stick to turn a scarecrow into their slave who does everything perfectly, including carrying out an inadvertent murder plan.

My Thoughts:

Ok. Goosebumps. "The Scarecrow Walks At Midnight". Ring a bell to anyone?

So, a scarecrow takes commands? Ok! Silent serveant! Take out the rusting doors from my clost and replace it with some curtains! And do a little organizing while you're at it!

Joking aside, yes, there are evil twists. Pretty fun, and so similar to that Goosebumps episode it brings back memories too. Really enjoyable.

47) The Tale of the Room for Rent
A ghost haunts an old man as revenge for supposedly killing him during a WWII plane crash and stealing his girlfriend.

This is why you shouldn't let strangers into your house. Kinda creepy, a ghost renting a room beside you. A ghost out for revenge is even scarier. Decent episode.

48) The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner
Ethan is an eccentric boy who loves to draw and read comics. He jumps at the chance to be the sole owner of a comic called "The Ghastly Grinner" about a jester-like supervillain who turns people into mindless giggling idiots. A freak accident brings the Grinner to life, and he begins to transform all he finds-including Ethan's parents. It's up to Ethan and a bookish girl from his class to defeat the Grinner.

My Thoughts:

Ah, comic books! I feel right at home! And did I spy the Crimson Clown at the comic book store?

So, a guy microwaves a comic book and brings the character to life? I'm half-tempted to try! Where's my Spider-Man comic? :P

Ok, seriously one of my favorites! Warning though, I may be a little biased!! Nitpic: the acting with the screams were weak. But the jokes are good.

"I hope you have an explaination for this, young man!"

"Not one that you'd buy."

 Like I said, one of my favorites!

49) The Tale of the Fire Ghost

Two siblings, with the help of the ghost of a dead fireman who was killed in the line of duty, battle against the spirit of fire itself.

My Thoughts:

An evil living embodiment of fire. Here's a hint: why not call upon the living embodiment of water?

Not one of the best episodes. You know, I've heard it enough times that I think the firefighter's fire ghost might be a real legend. Still, a lot of the progress here is slow moving, kinda boring.

Also, the jokes are kinda lame too. I mean, the fire ghost. His big appearence, what does he say?

"Welcome to my parlor."

......might be funny if, you know, it was a spider ghost. One thing for it though. Great effects.

Pretty average episode with some fun parts.

50) The Tale of the Unfinished Painting
A would-be artist (Jewel Staite) spends time at an art studio run by a witch who owns a set of cursed paintbrushes that trap anyone who signs their name on a completed piece.

My Thoughts:

You know, I'm in art class and I never have any soul-stealing problems. ::)

A simple concept, had potential, makes a statement about lack of inspiration, but a lot of it can be boring. A lot of it is just painting, plus hints of whats to come. I can't even really understand the plot. Is it ghost stuff? Is it magic? Is it voodoo? Idk, but its still cool.

51) The Tale of the Closet Keepers

A deaf girl and the boy who mistreats her must escape from an alien zoo where Earth children from around the globe are the main exhibit.

My Thoughts:

Sorry for the pic, sometimes the discs mess up in the camera program thing, and I take what I can get/ Keep that in ming for the rest of the reviews, ok?

A memorable episode. Some people who need special attention, like the deaf girl in this episode - I think its safe to say, bu the pure rule of happy endings in TV shows, that she shows them all what she's made of.

Its a real statement, and I can think of nothing that says it better than this episode.

52) The Tale of Train Magic
A boy (Gregory Smith) who loves trains finds himself aboard a toy train modeled after a real train that crashed 80 years ago and killed everyone on board.

My Thoughts:

I really don't care for trains. The magic/passenger thing is kinda interesting, but there's nothing really creepy going on. I had a hard time keeping interest, but a decent storyline.

One interesting thing: "Zeebo's Big House" comes back for another call-back to "The Tale of Laughing in the Dark".

53) The Tale of the Dead Man's Float
A teenage science nerd named Zeke and his love interest, Clorice, discover an abandoned swimming pool in their high school that was built on top of a graveyard, leaving the angry spirit to take its vengeance on anyone who swims in it.

My Thoughts:

So here, at the start of a new season, Frank leaves and Stig enters. Nice intro to him.

In the story, they did an amazing job on the make-up, as you can see in the picture above. Its a weird combo of skeletons, blood, and seaweed. A boogie-man that likes to drown kids. That story combined with that make-up? Creepy!

54) The Tale of the Jagged Sign
A girl sent to stay with her aunt tries to solve the mystery of a strange symbol and a ghost waiting in the mountains for the woman he loved.

My Thoughts:

Have to admit, a pretty creepy ghost story. A nice love story too! Very memorable. Although, I think we should all know what the "Mystery Sign" is, not even looking at the end.

55) The Tale of Station 109.1
A death-obsessed boy discovers a radio station that takes its listeners to the afterlife—whether they want to go or not.

My Thoughts:

So Stig is up for another initiation story, because apparently "The Tale of the Dead Man's Float" isn't good enough to get in ... uh, ok? I thought it was really good, but ...

Also, guess who guest stars? Gilbert Gottfried! Yes! That squinty-eyed little weasel! Gotta love it.

The death theme for the episode really makes it stand out. The boy was making a grave with his mashed potatoes and carrots!  And a business to get people to cross over? Like, same fashion as a pharmacy? Weird, but awesome!

56) The Tale of the Mystical Mirror
A self-conscious girl gets hired to work at a boutique where the owner uses a magic mirror to steal her employees' beauty and turns them into dogs before killing them.

My Thoughts:

The mirror reveals how old the witch really is. Its a plot device I never cared for and has been used, again, so many times. I can't seem to get into it, but the transformations and spells are interesting. Also spreads a good message of beauty being only skin-deep. Decent episode, average.

57) The Tale of the Chameleons
A reckless girl doesn't heed the warning of getting bitten by a chameleon ("Bite ya once, bite ya twice, a little water, pay the price!") and gets turned into one by a chameleon who disguises herself as the girl as part of a plan to unleash her species on the world.

My Thoughts:

Yeah! Tia and Tamera! I LOVED Sister, Sister! ;D

Aside from me being such a comic book fan that I keep remembering the Chameleon from Spider-Man whenever I read the title, still a favorite! Tia and Tamera do such a great job in this, too. I noticed the make-up department went through every detail to make the twins look alike. One has a mole on her cheek, the other doesn't. In the show, they both have it. That deserves a

58) The Tale of Prisoner's Past
Two stepbrothers accidentally release a convict's ghost while visiting an old prison on a school field trip.

My Thoughts:

The old prisoner ghost stories were always creepy. I watched places like that on Ghost Hunters. I have to say, I was almost scared watching this, but its a kids show so, yeah, almost. ;)

Nicely done.

59) The Tale of C7
A family buys an abandoned hotel and summon a spirit from a nearby lake by playing a popular selection on an old jukebox.

My Thoughts:

A haunted jukebox? Ok ...

Definitely original. And did I see the Ghastly Grinner comic?  ;) Cool ghost story. Would have been better if, say, there were actual ghost contact instead of only sightings before the resolve. However, dying at war? That's a death everyone can not only believe but feel sympathy. (Respect for the troops)

Heartwarming ending. Not the best episode, but good.

60) The Tale of the Manaha
A young boy who is the butt of practical jokes at summer camp steals statue, releasing mythical creatures who hunt for human flesh.

My Thoughts:

A decent monster-in-the-woods show. I like how it mixed with voodoo to kind of give it an unusual on all the myths surrounding ... well, just about everywhere. I actually am a believer in Bigfoot and the like. It's refreshing to see an interpretation other than a "missing link" or a rampaging monster.

61) The Tale of the Unexpected Visitor
Two boys use top-secret audio equipment to broadcast their music into space. They succeed when a kid alien answers their message—and comes over to play.

My Thoughts:

So, this guy had enough nonsense in his head to mess with the deep space equipment? Um ... ok, then ...

Now, this is a real alien show! The traps aren't what you'd normally think of as a alien device, but its cool! Although yuou never get a good look at the aliens, it is one of the more enjoyable episodes.

A boy buys a toy door from Sardo's magic shop that predicts death for a girl he likes.

My Thoughts:

Ugh, Sardo is back! To help a kid out with girls, he gives him ..  a mini door? Ok? Well, I heard Sardo say "Super Specs" when he was rummaging.  ;) Continuity! Boom! (lol, sorry, couldn't stop the itsjustsomerandomguy reference there!)

64) The Tale of the Night Shift
A hospital volunteer fears for her life when her co-workers are killed off and turned into the walking dead by a vampire living in the basement.

My Thoughts:

Aww, a deeper love connection between Gary and Sam. How cute.  :)

Another favorite of mine. Exciting. Kinda funny. You can't go wrong with vampires! But, now in the make-up department, the biggest mistake was the main vamp. Look at him! (Pic shown above) Also, the bite marks could have used some work. My father and I both agree that they are too close together, and I personally think they look too swollen, but its all a matter of opinion.

Still, a vampire show is a vampire show, and this one for the series didn't disappoint!!

After a boy who mistreats his friends and family steps into an ancient, creaking tree, he learns that he must play a game that will put his sister and friend in serious jeopardy if he loses.

My Thoughts:

After three years of being canceled, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" made a come back! With a new Midnight Society being led by Gary's brother, Tucker.

The Forever Game was never a favorite. Its ok, good plot. It was nice seeing the main twists being all a part of a game. Really different.

Unfortunately, Jake Desmond is now a snake in human form and unless Wiley stops playing, he will join all the other players as snakes who used the stick before him.

70) The Tale of the Misfortune Cookies
A teenager who tires of his boring life, where he must help his parents keep their Chinese restaurant from closing, using magic fortune cookies to escape his drudgery. The results sends him to a world where he is a famous comic book artist, but where his family apparently never had a son. Also, while their restaurant is famously successful, their daughter is a rude punk who disrespects her parents. Now, he must decide between a world where he is successful, but without his family, or a boring life with his loving family.

My Thoughts:

I love fortune cookies ... but if I were in this guy's shoes, I'd chuck them all away for good! A real "It's a Wonderful Life" type episode.

Although the message of a "perfect existence through imperfect existence"  is clear, the cause-and-effect session could use a little work. So he's not part of the family and he's a #1 comic book artist. But how did that make the family richin their restraunt? How did it cause a death? Like I said, the writing could use a lttle work - like maybe some expositionary dialogu - but otherwise a fun adventure.

71) The Tale of the Gruesome Gormets
Two brothers suspect that their new neighbors may be cannibals. .

My Thoughts:

Ok ... these guys are just weird. If you could only see how the 'new neighbors' talk. Its just wrong! So the neighbors are cannibals. This may be a kid show, but you can make it more ominous! This is a kid's horror show after all!

Oh well. It's still really fun. I love the plot and it was done decently.

72) The Tale of the Hunted
During a hunting trip, a girl named Diana and her family go after a wolf called "The Blaze." She turns into a wolf after wearing a strange necklace to bed, causing other hunters to go after her, unaware of Diana's transformation.

My Thoughts:

I never cared for hunting. I don't like harming innocent lives. This show is an interesting turn in the "walk a mile in their shoes" gimmick. Its heartwarming, but I can't help but struggle to keep my mind from wandering. Not a very attention-grabbing episode. All the same, the message is good and the effects were done nicely.

73) The Tale of Vampire Town
A self-proclaimed vampire slayer named Adder is on the hunt for the legendary vampire, Dreyfus. However, the hunter soon becomes the hunted during his stay at a strange town, where people believe he is the vampire.

My Thoughts:

Yay! A whole bunch of vampires in one spot! Haha! I love the idea that everyone believes that the vampire hunter is the vampire!!!

Definitely peaks my interest. A little slow when it comes to revealing the actual vampire, but I have to give a nod to the make-up department. Drykus looks like a very risen-dead vampire! Worth watching.

74) The Tale of the Wisdom Glass
A rich kid and a poor kid meet at a store where the rich one accidentally steals a computer game called Wisdom and blames it on the poor kid, but both get sent to a cyberworld where they are put on trial for their actions.

My Thoughts:

I don't know how to express my feeling for this without giving stuff away, so - - - SPOILER ALERT! If you wanna check it out yourself surprised, stop reading now!!

We all good? Ok.

The lesson of honesty was clear, but instead of a "everything's ok because you told the truth" ending, two boys are saving each other from execution for all time! Awesome twist! I lve it! But, the game itself reminds me of World of Warcraft for some reason, and that brings it down a few points.

75) The Tale of the Walking Shadow
A boy is cast in the stage presentation of Macbeth and finds that the theater is haunted by the actors and actresses who died before they could finish the play.

My Thoughts:

The people in this were rehearsing Macbeth. Cool play. I read the comic book, for those who might be interested, in my comic review thread. I also noticed at one point the main character was whistling the opening theme.  Nice!

A ghost haunting the play of Macbeth. Not a very unusual concept, but fun nonetheless. I understand the motive of the ghost isn't to scare people, but I would've still liked to have seen more going on.

76) The Tale of Oblivion
A boy buys (from Sardo's magic shop) magical art supplies, complete with an eraser that sends anything to a place called Oblivion, where everything sent there is permanently destroyed—including human life.

My Thoughts:

Sardo again? You'd think that someone would've taken his salesman license or something away by now! ::)

A place where all missing things go. I recall a similar episode of Eerie Indiana (Next year's marathon! ;) )

I couldn't have imagined it done better, but I have to admit the concept doesn't interest me. But Sardo always adds a bit of comedy.

77) The Tale of the Secret Admirer
A shy girl gets secret admirer messages from a dead boy from the 1950s who sent secret admirer messages to her mother when he was alive.

78) The Tale of Bigfoot Ridge
A girl travels to a town where her missing friend has been captured by a ghost who only hunts in the darkness.

My Thoughts:

Creepy. The monster in this kind of reminds me of a mixture between a shapeshifter and a soul-sucker. (Btw, don't ask why they named the ski trail Bigfoot Ridge, it has nothing to do with a yeti or anything)

Definitely interesting, but all the while I have no idea what they're pitted against! What is that creature supposed to be?!?!

Well, its interesting.

79) The Tale of the Silver Sight (1)
Gary (the original president of the Midnight Society), his brother Tucker, and the current Midnight Society must band together and find the original members from 1937 in order to stop an evil spirit from taking over the world.

My Thoughts:

The Silver Sight "movie" is the best part of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? in my opinion. The storytellers in a real horror story! Love it! The mystery! The horror! I can tell you right now that all three parts will get a five!! ;)

It is just a one-of-a-kind (though technically three-of-a-kind) show and ... just... awesome!!

Not that you are at fault, of course, but I find this to be an interesting consideration. The tv episode "game" reminding you of a game that wasn't released until 5 years later.

The past reminded me of the future reminding me of the past :stars:

80) The Tale of the Silver Sight (2)
Gary and the current members of the Midnight Society continue searching for the original members of the Midnight Society.

My Thoughts:

Haha, this doesn't disappoint! The stories are weird, twisted, and not told at the campfire! The plot deepens and you can really see how all the members' missions intertwine. Some of the best parts about this movie is the individual stories and seeing what each character goes through as well as how its affects the others. Amazing writing here!

81) The Tale of the Silver Sight (3)
Gary and the current members of the Midnight Society put together all pieces of the broken record. They then use the clues to find the Silver Sight, and face their true enemy.

My Thoughts:

Gah! Stupid recap! I wanna see the rest of the story! ... or stories ...

Lol, but I did catch another throwback to "The Tale of Laughing in the Dark". One member is found at Playland Where there are trick mirrors.  ;)

But the last episode just ... fulfills everything that was leading up to it! The whole movie is awesome, but it's definitely the best part of the movie and I highly recommend it! ;D

82) The Tale of the Lunar Locusts
An alien girl named Ellen needs the other half of her medallion which an Earth boy happens to carry in the form of a ring.

My Thoughts:

The alien plot I like. Alien in school is really cool, but the jealous steady girlfriend? OMG! Ok, I get that a theme here is that he would always stick beside her, but Julie is so obsessive I would definitely dump her!!

Nice twist at the end, though. Also, a funny campfire ending to close the episode. :)

A girl breaks up with her longtime boyfriend who strangely disappears. The boy runs into a lone statue of a maiden, and feeling thirsty, he drinks some of the fresh water trickling from her urn. However, he soon finds out the hard way that whoever partakes of the water turns into stone.

My Thoughts:

Turning people to stone is a pretty common storyline, but this displays it well enough. A real Romeo and Juliet-type story. A little slow, but a good story.

Two friends fix up a 1969 Pontiac GTO that takes them down a mysterious highway, and the only way to return home is to challenge a ghostly truck in a deadly drag race.

My Thoughts:

A cursed car is unusual, but that doesn't mean bad! I'll be a little less eager to work for my permit! ;)

85) The Tale of the Reanimator
A plant store worker steals an experimental potion that can bring dead plants back to life, but may have horrible repercussions if used on a dead animal - or a dead human.

My Thoughts:

Ok, lesson #1 of how the living should keep on living: Never - EVER - mess with the balance of life and death!!!

The mad scientist-plant thing was fine and weird enough. I think I remember something like that in Goosebumps. I think the episode was called "Stay Out of the Basement".

But, c'mon! Bringing back the dead is DISASTROUS territory! Everyone knows this! Ignoring how stupid of a move on the scientist's part this was, the first ever zombified episode was a cool one! I wish there was more decaying flesh, but what are ya gonna do?

86) The Tale of the Time Trap
A boy finds a magic box and gets caught in a genie's plan to free herself from granting wishes.

My Thoughts:

Sardo again, and this time I heard him trying to bargain an Egyptian Youth Potion. Remind anyone of a certain "The Tale of the Guardian's Curse"??  ;)

A wishes-gone-wrong genie, huh? Pretty neat and I like her white hair! Normally this plot is really played-out, but the wishes granted the way they are keep it interesting. Not bad. Almost makes me wish I had a genie, but I don't want to end up in the middle of a disaster!

87) The Tale of the Photo Finish
As part of a club initiation, a boy steals a photo of a dead boy who died because no one would accept him. Now gets his revenge by trapping his enemies into his "Wall of Shame".

My Thoughts:

You have to hate snobby rich-kid clubs!!!

Unfortunately, the DVD was skipping through the episodes. The series set was homemade by a friend and sometimes the discs mess up. I hate when I have to miss parts of a show, but here is a kind of mix between a ghost story and the old legend of photographs taking your soul. Very interesting, but just simply not that creepy. Just strange. Entertaining but weird.

88) The Tale of the Last Dance
A mutant haunts a high school, falls for a violin player, and will stop at nothing to make her his love.

My Thoughts:

The old Hunchback of Notre Dame-type story. You could argue its also a little bit Phantom of the Opera. An interesting modern retelling. Definitely captures interest, and I remember this from when I watched the series first-time through. A nice Carrie inspired scene, too. Moves a little slow and there have been many, many retellings of the same plot. Pretty good all the same, and another nod to the make-up department.

89) The Tale of the Laser Maze
Competitive twin sisters get trapped in an alien game of laser tag, where the game's creator plans to make robotic clones of them in order to make them his star players.

My Thoughts:

The old message of it being unimportant between winning and losing. A little bit of robots are an interesting turn! The only problem I see is it just moves kinda slow, a common enough mistake made, though not always a bad thing. But, its all for alien entertainment? Again on the weird side, but I can accept it. Attention drifts a bit as the show moves, but an ok story.

90) The Tale of Many Faces
A struggling model seeks to be employed, but regrets it when her new employer steals the faces of the beautiful to keep herself young.

My Thoughts:

A face stealer? Wow. No words can describe this. Its the weirdest one yet ... and I love it!! The make-up and effects were perfect and the story really seemed original.

91) The Tale of the Night Nurse
A girl who was staying at her grandfather's house sees the ghost of a young girl who was murdered by her nurse after a fall on her birthday.

My Thoughts:

I hate needles, too. Thing is, I know what it prevents is worse than the cure. A sad ghost story. (Definitely proves the need for medical bracelets) This really ended the series with a bang. The plot is well-written, believable, (if you believe in ghosts) and pretty spooky too. I just won't be in a rush to get my shots anytime soon.

You've done very well!
I agree!

At one point I even went to check at Amzon whether the series was still available (it isn't, only used)...
