Marvel Movie Marathon
As you all know I am doing a marathon of The Incredible Hulk and I was thinking about how I could tie that in with this weekend's marathon. The first thing I did was check to see how many movies I have that The Hulk at least appears in. And that number... while larger then I realized... I didn't feel was large enough for a marathon. So then I checked how many movies I had to choose from within the Marvel universe. That is where I found I had enough choices for a decent marathon.

I decided to put this post up today as I felt I may want to watch a movie or two tomorrow... which is earlier then normal. Below is a list of Marvel movies I have to watch... if there is any you would like to see reviewed just say so... though in this case I already reviewed most... if not all the movies below.

My Marvel Movies

 That is ok... I will just have to update the old reviews with the extra info. Some of my old reviews don't even have a rating let alone all the technical info I get from the DVD Profiler HTML window I use. :)

Never watch it. Surprisingly I have the first two, but I've heard so many bad things about the last one that I was not tempted. Maybe I will buy it some day just to complete the set if I find it for sale at 1 or 2$ at amazon.ca marketplace :-\

Spider-Man 3 is the worst of the Spider-Man movies.  Too much was crammed into it.

Oh I agree it was the worst of them... I only ever watched it the once but I believe I still enjoyed it. I am kind of curios about watching it again to see how accurate my memory on it is. :P

I did like it overall too.
I'm thinking I got more annoyed with it when I watched it again.

My Thoughts:
I remember the first time I saw this movie. Since Spider-Man has been my favorite superhero since I was a kid (I know kind of ironic what with me having a bad case of arachnophobia) it is one of the few movies I bothered to go see at the theater when it was first released. I remember initially being disappointed with his web coming from his wrist instead of the webshooters that he created in the cartoons and such I grew up on. But shortly into the movie I decided that I liked the idea of how the movie does it even better then the way I grew up knowing it to be. I thought the choice of Toby Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man was very good... he did a great job with the role. I have watched this movie many times since I got the dvd... and still enjoy it just as much as I did the first time.

Two years have passed since the mild-mannered Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) walked away from his longtime love Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and decided to take the road to responsibility as Spider-Man. Peter must face new challenges as he struggles to cope with "the gift and the curse" of his powers while balancing his dual identities as the elusive superhero Spider-Man and life as a college student. The relationships Peter holds most dear are now in danger of unraveling as he clashes with the powerful, multi-tentacled villain Doctor Octopus aka "Doc Ock" (Alfred Molina).

Peter's relationship with his best friend Harry Osborn (James Franco) has been overshadowed by Harry's growing vendetta against Spider-Man, whom he holds responsible for his father's death.

My Thoughts:
Even though I still enjoyed this movie very much... I never cared for it as much as the first one.... almost... but not as much. I don't like the whole storyline of Peter Parker loosing his ability for a while. I don't like that so many people got to see Spider-Man without his mask on... which is something that I hate about all the Spider-Man movies. The only person that I can accept seeing him without his mask is Mary Jane. To me that felt right. But Doc Ock, Harry and the train full of people shouldn't have happened. Well maybe Harry as it was really needed for the storyline. But that is it. Even though they never said it in the movie... you also get the feeling that Aunt May also knows about Peter being Spider-Man. I did however really enjoy seeing him go up against Doc Ock. I thought they did a good job with him. I also like that we see Professor Connor. It is a shame they didn't let The Lizard be one of the supervillians in any of the Spider-Man movies... I always liked him.

My Thoughts:
This is actually only the second time I seen this movie. Unfortunately there is a reason for that. As big of a Spider-Man fan as I am... this is a bit difficult for me to say. But the franchise took a bit of a nose-dive for me with this movie. I mean it is still a decent movie... but it just had so much more potential. Maybe if they didn't try to cram so much into it. I mean they had no less then 3 supervillians in this one movie. Maybe if they concentrated on just one or no more then two at once they would have been able to make it better. And how they handled his... what would you call it? I guess for the lack of a better term... possession that Peter went through with Venom. It just didn't work for me. It seemed to make Peter more idiotic then so much aggressive. What was up with all that stupid dancing? Dancing down the street. Some stupid dance show in that club MJ was singing in... It just didn't fit for me. With all that said... it is still Spider-Man... it is still loaded with action... it still looked incredible.

They didn't learn from the eighties Batman movies
A movie full of vilains doesn't work (that's why I like Superman, Flash Gordon, Daredevil and a couple of others. But not so for the large majority of this genre of film)

My Thoughts:
I got this through Amazon Marketplace very cheap. After watching it I feel like I got a heck of a deal... because I enjoyed every minute of it!  I was never familiar with The Avengers... but always liked both Captain America and Iron Man. But before this movie I never even heard of a few of them (Wasp, Giant Man & Black Widow). I really enjoyed seeing the team get together. I did get a kick out of the line where after seeing Thor, Giant Man asks "Who's the chick with the hammer" and Iron Man adds... "Whoever she is... I'm glad she is on our side"

The studio insisted on having Venom in the movie even though Raimi had the script with Sandman and Green Goblin..or Hobgobblin I guess he was called.

There is just too much crammed into the movie for anything to be dealt with properly....much like what happened with X-Men: The Last Stand.  Too many story lines and they all ended up being crappy.

I wouldn't have minded Venom if the story had been done right...and if he and the stuff with the suit had been the main focus.

It would have been better just to hint at the suit stuff in this one...and set up stuff for another movie dealing with the suit taking over Peter..and then Venom.  The way it was done, the character was a waste.

True...but least the third movie would have been stronger.  I think some of the backlash from the 3rd is why Sony is starting over already with the series..which still seems like a dumb move to me.

In the comic, the black suit was just an excuse for a change of colour! But it meant they could bring Venom in very slowly and sent Peter nuts, until he finally gets the traditional suit back on. That's a two film arc at least. ::)

This is another one I liked a lot. It was fun not only seeing the kids of the Avengers... but also seeing an old Tony Stark/Iron Man and an old Bruce Banner/Hulk. I must admit though... I do prefer the original Avengers. Some of those are my old time favorites after all. But it is cool to see what they next generation of Avengers is like.

My Thoughts:
After watching this movie I can say... Finally, an Incredible Hulk movie that is worthy of the title! It seems like everything the first Hulk movie did wrong this one did right. The story is ten times better... the special effects are much better... as are the actors. The fight between The Hulk and Abomination  was great... lasted just long enough. Some of these movies tend to extend that final fight longer then it should be.

I do get what you mean, this is more fun, but The Hulk was a better and more ambitious film overall. I was frustrated because this went so far the other way; don't you think it would have been better without the absurd military getting stuck in immediately? There's already enough of a reason for Banner to Hulk-out, but they send those as well, it was absolutely overkill. They didn't need the silly reason to find him. You've been watching the series... I missed the poignancy that always delivered so neatly. This was just an action film and nothing more.

Oh yeah... the closer to the series it would have been the more I would have liked it. Before either movie that series is all I knew The Hulk from as I didn't read the comics and never watched much of the cartoons. I found the second movie a little closer to the feel of the series. But if they would have done it exactly like the series there would have been a good change the movie would have gotten a 5 star rating from me.

Based on a book I have about Hulk, the military going after him has been one of the ...consistent elements in the comics.  General Ross is always mixed up in it somehow.

When I watched Hulk again, I liked it better than I did the first time..though the ending stuff and what went on with Bruce's dad was just nuts and wrong on so many levels.  The newer one is much better..and I liked Edward Norton in the part too.

This is the second time I watched this movie since I bought it Just about 4 or 5 months ago. Doctor Strange has a different feel then most Marvel animated movies. But it isn't a bad thing... just different. Before this movie I really didn't know much about the character other then seeing him in an episode or two of the Spider-Man cartoons. It is an interesting and entertaining story. I would definitely like to see more on this character.

My Thoughts:
Iron Man was always one of my favorites growing up. I used to watch the cartoons all the time. But until this movie I never really seen an origin story for him.  And I must say I enjoyed every minute of it! This is my second time watching the movie since I got the DVD. And I loved it just as much this time as I did the first. I will admit I was concerned when I first heard that Robert Downey, Jr. got the roll of Tony Stark/Iron Man.... since even though he is a decent enough actor... he never really impressed me all that much. But I must admit... I really liked him in this movie. He seemed to nail the role for me. Sure there was some things that was really unbelievable in the storyline... like being able to create the suit he did in captivity... without the captors being any the wiser about it. But you know... I really didn't mind it. It worked for me. For anyone watching the movie for the first time... or may have missed it when you did watch the movie. Look for a final scene after the end credits role... very cool!
