House (1986) :)
Plot: Roger Cobb is a Vietnam vet. Whose career as a horror novelist has taken a turn for the worse when his son Jimmy mysteriously disappears while visiting his aunt's house. Roger's search for Jimmy destroys his marriage and his writing career. The sudden death of his aunt brings Roger back to the house where his nightmares began. The evil in the house forces Roger to endure a harrowing journey into his past.
My O: This movie was a little campier than I remember. I guess that's what I should expect since the last time I saw it I was 8 years old. :) The monster suits were bad yet fun. Is it just me or does the monster in the closet look a lot like the monster at the door in Hellraiser.
I found myself enjoying it in a its so bad its good sort of way.
The Thing (1982)
Plot: Scientists in the Antarctic are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people that it kills.
My O: This is still one of my favorite horror films. I remember this movie really scaring me when I was a kid. Watching it now I can see why. This movie has some nasty and creepy creature effects on the mutations. Nasty as in good. ;D I miss these kind of creatures. It seems everything now has to be CGI. This movie really has that claustrophobic nowhere to go feel to it. I'm sure most everyone has seen it, but if you haven't give it a watch. Now I just need to get the original 1951 film so I can finally see it. Yes, I admit I've never seen the original. The scene where the blood jumps out of the dish made me jump again! It gets me everytime.
It Waits (2005)
Plot: A lone female park ranger tries to track down a vicious creature killing various people and terrorizing her at a remote national park.
My O: I went in with low expectation for this film. It centers around a female park ranger (actress in now way fits the part) being terrorized by a monster in the woods. The director spends most of the movie trying to build suspense by just giving small quick glimpses of the monster. This works okay for the most part, and it was probably for the best with the low budget the movie had. The practical effects of the monster suit weren't that bad, but when the CGI scenes come in it doesn't even look like the same creature (think Sci Fi channel). It just had the feeling of a cheesy monster movie that was taking itself way too seriously. Its almost comical how quickly the lead character gets over her boyfriend being killed right in front of her. The next scene in the movie she doesn't seem to care. She just complains that the monster took his body with this mildy annoyed look on her face. ::) Also, the final scene was just ridiculous.
Depend of the taste since I've really appreciate it ;D
This is not really a monster movie, but a movie who deal with the remorse we had because of our previous error. The monster is just a metaphor for this, sometimes an horror movie had a deepest meaning than just the obvious scary moment. ;)
I didn't get that from it at all. ??? I get that the horrific experience drives her to atone for her mistake at the end, but that happens in a lot of horror movies. I just felt it took itself to seriously for its own good.
Guess it just wasn't my cup of tea. ;D
