Within My Lifetime Marathon
I have done this marathon a couple times before... but this is the first time I am attempting it since going back to work. But since I give myself an entire year that shouldn't be a concern with this one. In the past I did 1 movie that was released for every year of my life. So will be watching 1 film for every year from 1969 through out to 2015 (When I get one). But this year I am upping it to make it even more challenging. This year not only am I going to watch a movie for each year... but also watch a pilot episode for a TV Series that premieres for each year. Upping it from 46 shows to 92!

1: PILOT
One year after Alison's disappearance, Aria receives a disturbing text signed "A" – and the mystery begins.

Stars:
Troian Bellisario as Spencer Hastings
Ashley Benson as Hanna Marin
Holly Marie Combs as Ella Montgomery
Lucy Hale as Aria Montgomery
Ian Harding as Ezra Fitz

My Thoughts:
I have been curios about this show for some time as I have always heard good things. And I must say the pilot episode does do a good job pulling you in. Another plus for this series is that it has two actresses that I like/familiar with. First there is Holly Marie Combs (Charmed)... who I have adored for a long time now. Then there is Lucy Hale who I discovered when she played the little sister in the Bionic Woman reboot shortly before this series. Holly Marie Combs and Lucy Hale also just happen to play mother and daughter in this series. As I said, this is a strong story that pulls you in nicely. So I am looking forward to continuing this series. I just fear that it can't keep the momentum that it started with, though I hear it does. Not sure how many seasons is out right now... but I have the first 3 seasons on DVD right now.

My Thoughts:
This is one from Danea Cassandra's collection. One that is definitely different then my normal type of film to watch. I found it to be very interesting... but at the same time a little too slow for my taste. I can see myself watching this one again... though it wouldn't be a frequent watch for me.

As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at his wife's side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when an encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan on a cross-country trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, many friendships and Peter's last nerve.

My Thoughts:
This is one I wasn't sure what I would think of going by the trailer. I found a copy used cheap so figured I would give it a chance. Turned out I enjoyed it more then I thought I would. Definitely had it's funny moments. Usually Robert Downey, Jr. is hit and miss for me... but here lately he has been more hit then miss. And I seem to always enjoy Zach Galifanakis. This film is worth the time put in to watch it.

But upon daybreak, when the girls discover that they're the only residents of Los Angeles whom the comet hasn't vaporized or turned into a zombie, they do what all good Valley Girls do...they go shopping! But when their day of malling threatens to become a day of mauling, these gals flee with killer zombies and blood-seeking scientists in hot pursuit!

Extras:

My Thoughts:
Sure this is a cheesy '80s flick..but it is one that I just find plain fun... nothing more then that. Just "leave your brain at the door" fun. It has a nice mixture of comedy that works well in my opinion. It is like a zombie flick with minimal use of zombies. I am so glad I upgraded this one to Blu-ray as the DVD release I had didn't have any extras.

My Thoughts:
I liked this one quite a bit. Of course that could have something to do with the fact that I am a fan of Katherine Heigl. I have enjoyed her work since she was in the TV Series Roswell. Then I also thought she was great in the series Grey's Anatomy. Yes... this movie is very predictable... but then what Romantic Comedy isn't? In my eyes romantic comedies isn't about the ending... but the journey leading up to it. And this one I found to be a lot of fun. I have read other reviews for this movie... and for the most part they seem to agree that this one is nothing special... bordering on boring. Well, what can I say? This isn't the first time I seemed to be the only one to enjoy something a lot. But that does tell me to be cautious in recommending it. So I would have to tell people to try catching it on cable or something. Don't buy this movie on my review alone. But I do see myself upgrading it to widescreen if I get a chance.

My Thoughts:
I know I have seen this pilot before... but I must not have given it the attention it deserved at the time as I didn't remember most of what happened. I enjoyed this one very much. I was originally concerned when I found out it was going to take place in modern time... but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out. The storyline is good and the characters is likable. Turns out I enjoyed this one so much I couldn't stop at just the pilot episode... I ended up watching the entire first disc (5 episodes).

My Thoughts:

This movie is just plan fun for me. It is a really good "Turn your brain off... Popcorn Movie"... it has a nice amount of laughs. I enjoyed the performances of both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in this movie. I especially enjoyed Will Smith firing off that little gun of his... the "Noisy Cricket". If you just want some mindless entertainment for about an hour and a half... this one I will recommend.

I jut recently upgraded to the blu-ray/dvd combo pack. I haven't had the chance to check out the extras yet... but looks like a great set. The movie looked and sound great.

This is a pretty cute animated movie... though I have seen better. The film went in an obvious direction and I had a hard time caring about the characters. But in spite of all of that... My Thoughts:

I watched this one a few days ago, but just now getting to post about it. While not a bad show... this one was a little on the slow side for my taste, The imagery was outstanding in this one... and the storyline keeps your interest. I didn't even mind that they didn't "solve" the mystery.... I mean not all mysteries get solved. I just really had a bit of a problem with how slow it was. I was doing all I could not to dose off.

And this one has 3 people I knew from TV series. Of course Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)... but there is also Jason Behr from Roswell and KaDee Strickland from Private Practice. My Thoughts:
It is not often I give a film a perfect 5 star rating... but I feel this one deserves it. It is just  truly amazing! Even more so considering it is based on a true story. I was drawn in from the very beginning... and it kept my complete attention till the very end. A real feel good movie. One I couldn't recommend high enough. An excellent story that is wonderfully done. It is one of those films where the moment I finish it I feel like I could watch that one again! If that is not a sign of a great movie I don't know what is.

Guarding his castle is the labyrinth itself, a twisted maze of deception, populated with outrageous characters and unknown dangers. To get through it in time to save Toby, Sarah will have to outwit the King by befriending the very Goblins who protect him, in hopes that their loyalty isn't just another illusion in a place where nothing is as it seems!

My Thoughts:

I watched this one for the first time the other day. I found it to be a fun film... it definitely kept my interest through-out. I may get a little slack on this one... but I did not care much for David Bowie in this film. He just seemed so wooden and forced. Maybe they were going for something like that for the character but in my personal opinion it took away from the film some. At least it did for me. Othert then that it is a good movie and worth the time put in to watch it.

My Thoughts:

What a great start to an amazing story. The storyline draws you in so much that you are glued to the set. So much so that you don't even realize you been sitting there for three hours watching a movie. And even after a full three hours you are left wanting more. This story really does take you on a great adventure. And that isn't even touching on the gorgeous visuals this film has to offer. An epic story... a must see film!

My Thoughts:

I first saw this film on DVD last year.... It took me just over a year but I finally found a blu-ray copy cheap enough to purchase. I am glad I finally tracked down a copy... as I enjoyed every minute of it. I found it to be just plain fun. Though I would have liked to seen Captain America in his uniform more during the middle of the film... that is just a minor complaint. Sure this is a bit on the cheesy side but sometimes that just adds to the fun of it. I found it to definitely be worth the time put in to watch it.

My Thoughts:

I watched this one the other day. It has been years since I seen it. But that is probably due to the fact that they ran the heck out of it when it was on cable.... and even I got sick of seeing it when flipping through the channels and such. But it is a good movie... I enjoyed it quite a bit. Definitely glad I finally decided to revisit it. I am actually having a hard time excepting this film is now 25 years old! I think Michael Keaton did a very good job portraying both the Batman persona as well as Bruce Wayne's. I was also pretty impressed with Jack Nicholson's version of The Joker.... though I do admit that Heath Ledger's version felt much more psychotic. I think the story itself was well done. If like me and you haven't seen this one in years, give it a go... it is worth the revisit.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League as they face off against Orm, otherworldly weapons and perilous odds. It's an all-new, epic chapter from the DC Universe in which mankind's only hope from the darkness rests upon the guiding light of man – Aquaman!

My Thoughts:

I once again really enjoyed an animated superhero film. Of course this is of no surprise to the people that know me. I have always been a big fan of anything superhero related. Though I must admit, while I did like him, Aquaman was never a huge favorite of mine. Though I do think they did this back story of him well. But I must admit where they drew all the Atlantian males with long sideburns seemed to be an odd choice. It was like they were all stuck back in the '70s. Other then that a good film with lots of action. I feel comfortable recommending it.

My Thoughts:

I grew up with the TV Series it is based on so that definitely added some value for me. I was somewhat surprised to see they changed it from a family on a camping trip to a scientist, his assistant and a guide. I think I would have preferred if it was more like the series in this regard... but I was still able to enjoy the movie. The fact that Will Farrell is the star is something else that had me nervous as to me he has always been a very hit and miss actor... I don't like half the stuff I see him in. The movie really is a lot of fun. A non-sense type of fun... but fun nonetheless. Some of it had me laughing out loud... but then again some of it had me shaking my head in disbelief. And I definitely got a kick out of both Chaka and Grumpy. But overall it was more entertaining then anything. Though I will say that for me it did go down hill a bit towards the end. Over-all I am glad I have it in my collection... and I can see myself watching it again

We decided to watch this one tonight. Which was a pleasure... as this is my type of film. A disaster film and true story. It is one I enjoyed very much. There was a couple familiar faces in it. One of course being Richard Chamberlin. The other was Catherine Mary Stewert who I enoyed very much in the '80s horror "Night of the Comet." If you never seen it, this is a TV Movie I would definitely recommend. It is one I hope to add to my own collection before too long.

I have watched it countless time both on VHS and DVD.... but this is the first time I got to see it on Blu-ray! Both Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins were excellent in this one. This movie is the one that truly made me a fan of Jodie Foster. Even after countless times of watching this movie... it still has me glued to the screen with such an excellent storyline. If you have been living in a cave for the past 25yrs and never seen this movie... it is one I couldn't recommend any higher! It really is a must see movie!

My Thoughts:

As you can see by the cover this film is part of a Bill Murray double feature along with Groundhog Day. I found this movie to be just as much fun as I remembered it to be. A good solid '80s comedy. One that I would recommend everyone to see at least once. This film had me literally laugh out loud more then once. The film has a lot of familiar faces in it as well. So if you have never seen this one... put it on your list. And if you have seen it before... maybe it is time to revisit this classic comedy.

Plot:

Night Work
London 1891. As the police investigate a series of gruesome murders, renowned explorer Sir Malcolm Murray and the strangely beautiful Vanessa Ives know there's something darker at play. In search of someone close to them who has been lost, they recruit American sharpshooter Ethan Chandler and Dr. Victor Frankenstein to help them on their journey.

Stars:
Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray
Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm Murray
Eva Green as Vanessa Ives
Rory Kinnear as The Creature
Billie Piper as Brona Croft

My Thoughts:
This one was a blind buy when I found the blu-ray release cheap at a pawn shop. So I didn't know what to think going into it. But I must say... I enjoyed every minute of this one. Of course it didn't hurt that the pilot episode had vampires in it... and I must admit... a very interesting take on vampires at that. After watching this pilot episode (and episode 2)... I can't wait to continue on in the series. I am just sorry to see there is only 8 episodes in the first season.

Stars:
Tom Welling as Clark Kent
Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang
Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor
Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan
Sam Jones III as Pete Ross

My Thoughts:
I always really enjoyed this show... it was one of my favorites. I been in the mood to watch this series again for a while and watching this pilot episode was all it took to get me going again. In just one day I have already made it half way through the second disc. I think the pilot episode sets this series up well. All the characters in the series is likable... even at this point Lex Luthor. But watching him go from a likable character that truly wants to do good to the criminal mastermind that he becomes is, in my opinion, one of the things that draws you into this series.

My Thoughts:

I always found this movie to be a lot of fun. As always Geena Davis was great in the role.... and I even liked Winona Ryder in this one... which is someone I usually don't care for. While it was nice to upgrade this one what with as often as I watch it... there really not much here that is not on the DVD.

Plot:
From Michael Bay, the producer of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, comes the true story of Amityville. In November 1974, a family of six was brutally murdered. Now, a year later, an unsuspecting young couple, George (Ryan Reynolds, The Proposal, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Kathy Lutz (Melissa George, TV's Alias), and their children move into the house that was the site of the horrific event and is now haunted by a murderous presence. What follows is 28 days of unimaginable terror. With demonic visions of the dead and relentless screams of terror, this is the haunted house story that isn't just a movie—it's real.
Extras:

My Thoughts:

When I first heard that they were remaking "The Amityville Horror" I was rather worried that they would not do the original justice... or that they would make the same mistake they made with the "Psycho" remake.. and make it a carbon copy of the original just changing the actors. But this remake... I must admit... was done in the right way... kept enough the same to pay homage to the original... but changed enough to make it it's own movie.

For the most part I do not like to compare a remake to the original... as I like to judge every movie on it's own as a stand alone movie. But this is hard sometimes... especially when I enjoy the original movie as much as I do "The Amityville Horror." In this case though... I really enjoyed this remake... possibly as much as I liked the original. I think they did a wonderful job with it... and I really enjoy the actors that took over... I am a fan of both Melissa George and Ryan Reynolds. This is one remake that is definitely worth giving a chance... I don't think you will be sorry.

My Thoughts:
The first episode of the spin-off series... I found it to have a bit of a slow start... but towards the middle to end really started to get into it. This pilot episode has little zombie activity, but think that is ok as it does start at the very beginning of the zombie apocalypse.  In the beginning of the episode I feared I wouldn't like the characters in this one... while I still like the characters from the first series better, I found that I warmed up to the characters as the episode went on. It really is hard to say how a series is going to be after just one episode... but I enjoyed this one enough to continue watching.

Set in Russia in 1927, this much-loved, hilarious Mel Brooks comedy classic is the tale of a former aristocrat (Ron Moody) who is now a Russian clerk under the new Soviet regime. When he learns that his dying mother-in-law sewed a fortune of family jewels into one of the twelve dining room chairs, he sets off across Russia to find it – with an opportunist (Frank Langella), a priest (Dom DeLuise) and his former servant (Mel Brooks) all in equal pursuit.

Since I own the same box set, I saw The Twelve Chairs once. I agree, that it is quite apparent to be an early work of Mel Brooks, him still trying to find his own brand of humor. I may not revisit this ever again, other items in the box are much more worth to be seen repeatedly.
