Title: Amazon.ca Shipping Times
Post by: goodguy on August 13, 2010, 12:42:16 PM
I've never ordered from Amazon.ca before and just noticed that I have the following options for International Shipping to Germany:

- Standard International Shipping (averages 30-40 weeks)
- Expedited International Shipping (averages 7-14 weeks)
- Priority International Courier (averages 2-4 business days)

30-40 weeks? Is that some kind of joke I don't get? Has anyone any experiences with Amazon.ca shipping to Europe/Germany?

Btw, I would have assumed that someone accidentally wrote "weeks" instead of "days", but it is listed as such all over the place (checkout, help pages etc.).

It can take a while.

My last order was shipped on July 12th and hasn't been delivered yet.

The one before was shipped on March 29th and was delivered May 3rd.

Hmm, so it is indeed 30-40 days. That really is quite a while compared to US shipping.

I think it will be surface mail. I once sold a book on Ebay for just a few pounds and it was bought by an Australian. To send it in any reasonable time would cost more than he paid for the book. I questioned his decision bidding at all, but he said it really didn't matter and he wanted me to send it the cheapest way.

I think it took about six months!   ??? He still left me feedback.

6 months....? Somebody swim there...?

If it is "on surface" the longest time to Australia should be 2 months, 3 max. Then it would be in a container ship with other snail mail, I suppose. But sea shipping for packages like that seems highly strange to me in this age and days.

A container ship from Canada to Germany should need 3 week, 4 weeks tops. So in overall 30~40 days sounds quite possible/reasonable.

I usually use Standard Shipping for Amazon US to Taiwan and I usually have my stuff within 10-14 days, so they obvioiusly use air shipping for that.

You're probably right. It took him over 6 months to leave feedback, but now I try and think about it (it was ages ago), he mentioned about living remote and said he had to wait for everything anyway, so didn't see the point in paying for faster.

I got a notice for a package on Aug 20th. I think this is it but I have to get it from the post office first.

I bought a cheap (less than 15 CAD) blu-ray recently from amazon.ca. I was in no hurry to get it so I selected the cheapest shipping option, knowing full well that it can take a month or more. So I was VERY surprised when I had a DHL courier ringing my door the very next day carrying the blu-ray. Someone obviously made a mistake or they have the best service ever!

Did you choose the most expensive shipping?

Nope, plain old standard.

They shipped from Mississauga, ON (Ontario?).

You must've gotten lucky and your packaged piggybacked on someone's who paid top dollars to get it faster! I love it whan that happens ;)
