Title: 2012 October-to-Whenever Marathon: Must-Sees and Nostalgia
Post by: addicted2comics(:P) on October 02, 2012, 10:59:00 PM
I thought I'd take the liberty to watch all the famous horror movies I can! Chucky, Freddy, Jason, Pinhead, the girls from the Grudge and the Ring ... all right here! I'm really setting the bar for myself, as there are a lot of movies and a lot more gore than what I'm used to, but I'll be sure to push myself. Also, for self-satisfaction, I'm going to be watching Halloween episodes from various series that I loved or if I just thought the episodes themselves were very cool. (Meaning even if I hated a show, ie. Degrassi, I'll still watch a Halloween episode just because it actually turned out awesome. ;)
I'm still open to suggestions, but I'm planning on being pretty busy this month. Not even sure I'll fit this much in ... but tell me if I missed something major. :-[[/center]

Note: The Scare-O-Meter added to these reviews is not a rating of any kind. It's actually a counter of how many times a jumpscare or something got me in that movie. ;) If I visibly jump or I hear myself gasp (as I never caught myself screaming before), then it's another scared lady on the bottom!

Stars: Sarah Michelle Gellar as Karen Jason Behr as Doug William Mapother as Matthew Clea DuVall as Jennifer Kadee Strickland as Susan Grace Zabriskie as Emma
Plot: From filmmaker Sam Raimi (Spider-Man®, Army of Darkness) and acclaimed Japanese director Takashi Shimizu comes a terrifying tale of horror in the tradition of The Ring and 28 Days Later.
Sarah Michelle Gellar (TV’s "Buffy The Vampire Slayer") stars as an American nurse who has come to work in Tokyo. Following a series of horrifying and mysterious deaths, she encounters the vengeful supernatural spirit that possesses its victims, claims their souls, then passes its curse to another person in a spreading chain of horror. My Thoughts:
I have to say, I was rather looking forward to this! I've seen parodies and sat through the video game walk-through, but never actually saw this. (Hence why it's in the marathon). I walked into this movie knowing the story of the little boy, but the girl - who I deem to be creepier - is someone that just really bugs me in the crackling of her voice and the way she moves to the point where it is the goal of my movie-watching to figure out how the heck she died. :hmmmm: So far all I got was it was around when the boy was killed and I think maybe she fell down the stairs. I can't tell yet. (No judge me! Clues in the story are confusing!! My brain no handle it!! :bag: )
The "scare" quality of it was ok. It only got me by jumpscares a few times - as you can see by the counter - though the first three were within the first half hour, so I guess you can say it kind of declined after that. The Grudge was about as scary as I would suspect and it ended pretty well, though since it's the first of a few movies there wasn't much of a climax. I'm guessing that saved for when people are trying to find a way to break the curse towards the end of the franchise.
Overall, the plot confused me a little but it got me a few times so it's still a cool movie!

My Thoughts:
I can't say this is much scarier than the previous movie. More or less, it's a lot like watching the first one over again. The main difference is we get to a complete back-story.
(click to show/hide)
I feel embarrassed to say that the "little girl" is a lot less little than I thought she was. :-[ Turns out the woman from the Grudge was the wife that was killed, mother to the little boy. I didn't think of that...
The main new plot point is the discovery of...well, let's just say there was the bad practice of a mother that may have been another factor in the curse. Part of me thinks it's a cool twist, part of me thinks it just complicates the main aspect that I like: she's angry he husband killed her and wants revenge. There were many new characters introduced, and you see the woman's power to really mess with people's heads. There was really only one jump-scare that got me, but I think I'll chalk that up to having watched it so soon after the first. It can still be pretty creepy.

Brad Keene, Takashi Shimizu (film "Ju-On: The Grudge")
Length:
90 min.
Rating:
R
Stars: Matthew Knight as Jake Shawnee Smith as Dr. Sullivan Mike Straub as Orderly Aiko Horiuchi as Kayako Shimba Tsuchiya as Toshio Emi Ikehata as Naoko
Plot: A young Japanese woman who holds the key to stopping the evil spirit of Kayako, travels to the haunted Chicago apartment from the sequel, to stop the curse of Kayako once and for all and save a family who are currently being haunted by her malicious spirit.
My Thoughts:
One of my first thoughts watching this movie was that something in the rules of these ghosts changed ... before in the first movie (probably the second too, but I'm not sure) the spirits could only get you if you were in the dark. Once you reach light, they back off. No such rules here, they just seem to come whenever they want. Thought I'd point that out. :P
So a lot of people die, and more people try to stop the curse ...that much all the movies had. What's unique here is the Kayako's sister showing up to perform a ceremony to actually get rid of her. As for what occurs there and my thoughts on it I shall leave in the spoilers.
(click to show/hide)
Stupid move #1: Refusing to go through with the ceremony that will get rid of the evil
Stupid move #2: Stopping in the middle of the ceremony because you don't want a little girl to drink what she has to drink to contain the spirit
I cannot stress how absolutely idiotic some parts of the movies are. If something can get rid of evil, do it and don't think twice. If it makes it worse, deal with it later because stopping in the middle leads to...well, it leads to what happens towards the end. :slaphead:
Between the three movies there is a fair amount of continuity and no one stands above the other, so I guess that's why it all seems like one big movie to me and why I gave them each the same rating.

Buffy had some great Halloween episode. Such as the one in second season (called "Halloween" as much as I recall), where everyone turned into what they wore as their costume. Or the one in fourth season called "Fear Itself", which was also fun. "Roseanne" also had some really great Halloween episodes.

Buffy is a maybe. :) I have the Roseanne Halloween DVD, but I probably won't count that for my marathon. I watch it every year since I got it, lolz. Though, you did remind me of some cartoon episodes I forgot, seeing as I also have a few Cartoon Network Halloween DVDs. Thanks!

Until The Day It Becomes A Pumpkin Ouran High School Host Club (Episode 21)
Director:
Tatsuyuki Nagai
Length:
24 min.
Rating:
Rated PG-13
Stars: Caitlin Glass as Haruhi Fujioka Vic Mignogna as Tamaki Suou J. Michael Tatum as Kyoya Ohtori Todd Haberkorn as Hikaru Hitachiin Greg Ayres as Kaoru Hitachiin Luci Christian as Mitsukuni Haninozuka Travis Willingham as Takashi Morinozuka
Opening:
Series Summary: At the ultra prestigious Ouran High School, Haruhi Fujioka looks for a quiet place to read and walks into an unused music room, and accidentally stumbles across the notorious Ouran High School Host Club, a group of boys who entertain the girls of the school for profit. When Haruhi accidentally breaks an expensive vase belonging to the wacky Host Club, she is made to serve under them until her debt is paid off. Haruhi is soon made a Host, but in order to pay off what she owes, she must continue to allow the Host Club's customers to believe she is a boy.
Episode Plot: Thanks to Renge's outburst, Ouran Academy is hosting a Halloween "Test of Courage" tournament where the first-year class is divided into teams who attempt to scare their opponents into submission. The losers are to be revealed in full cowardice on the school's newspaper! Haruhi was teamed up with the twins, but there is a lovesick coward who may need their assistance more than frights. Even with this new complication, there may also be a few extra players in this contest of fear!
My Thoughts:
This is actually one of my favorite episodes, alongside "The Door the Twins Opened", but I didn't really watch this out of favoritism. With a kind of prolonged start to my Halloween marathon and it being so late at night already, I thought I'd kick it off my getting one last breath of anime before diving into so many movies. ;)
One of the best things about the episode is that it's possibly one of the funniest episodes in the whole series. Tamaki making a fuss over Haruhi as usual. The new "'fraidy cat" character. An obvious "The Ring" reference, as shown by the chosen screencap. It was just really enjoyable. And while this episode didn't have an emotional backstory on one of the characters - which I kind of always enjoy - Kaoru contemplates the state of the Host Club, their current relationship, and ponders at what point people will start recognizing their feelings and change everything. Hence, turning their "carriage" back into a "pumpkin".
It's those little things that make me really appreciate the way the characters were written. ;D But that was only a couple scenes, so this episode is mostly just some awesome comic relief.

That's a pretty "recent" list. No Universal Monsters, no Nosferatu, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde or Salem's Lot. I guess if you're going for scare factor, those don't really produce. An American Werewolf in London and The Howling are probably out too.
For scariness, I'd suggest two films by Neil Marshall - Dog Soldiers and The Descent - they have geniune scares, as well as the jump scares.
Possibly a bit old for you, and not sure how easy it is to get hold of Stateside, I'd recommend the BBC serial Quatermass and the Pit. I've not seen the Hammer remake, so can't comment on that one.

I've already watched most of your universal monsters. :P This marathon are mainly mainstream movies that I've never taken the time to watch. And a movie being old for me? I actually really enjoy Nosferatu! lolz
Actually, the list has grown pretty long. I'm going to stick with what I have because I'm not sure I'll be able to fit even this much in.

After a young, middle-class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially while they sleep.
Paranormal Activity builds suspense night after night all the way to the shocking ending. Roger Ebert calls it "truly scary."** Go ahead, WE DARE YOU TO WATCH IT AT HOME...at least you can leave the lights on.

My Thoughts:
I got around to watching the first Paranormal Activity movie....and, because I don't watch the horror genre that often, I find myself amazed at some of the people's stupidity. AKA, when a psychic tells you you need a demonologist and even goes so far as to recommend one to you, you freakin' call that demonologist!!! I swear, that is not a time for selfish pride....
Overall, the movie really seemed to drag. My father told me that most films designed to look like home movies like this one usually do, but I just think a little bit more background could have added to the suspense. Take "The St. Francisville Experiment" for example. It was the same design, but the background of pure torture of the spirits there added to the atmosphere. I'm not saying they should have totally copied that motive, but I think more could have done to make it a bit creepier and then maybe it would move a bit faster. There were a few good parts, one concerning a Ouija Board and another with Katie's "sleepwalking", so it was pretty enjoyable.
I took a look at both the theatrical and alternate endings, but I'll go more in-depth on my thoughts on those in the spoiler tags.
(click to show/hide)
The theatrical ending, while more frightening (it had the only jumpscare that earned a spot on the Scare-O-Meter), did not seem as realistic. Ok, I get that Micah's dead. But ... no one knows Katie's whereabouts? What am I expected to believe? She's dead and they never recovered the body? She is totally in the demon-world now? She's prowling around as a demon just randomly killing people? I don't know, I just don't get it....
Now, the alternate ending made more sense. It was less frightening, but made more sense where this type of haunting is concerned. Micah is killed and then the possessed Katie slits her own throat. Yes. Creepy, a little disturbing, and a definite ending (aside from where on earth the demon goes after that). Just think that, while its not as scary, it seems to fit better.
So yeah, both of the endings are worth looking into. Fairly creepy show.

I haven't seen this movie, so I don't know the context of this, but when a psychic would tell me something in the real world, I wouldn't believe him/her a thing. And if he/she would recommend me a demonologist, I would think he/she is crazy.

Ehh, I guess it's because I think I had a psychic ability when I was younger and a friend of mine was psychic. I'd definitely believe. Esecially if I was the one who saw enough weird things to call a psychic in the first place.

This was the context I was missing (not having seen this movie). When the character already believed in psychics anyway and was the one wanting to get their opinion (and was ready to believe it).

My Thoughts:
This one was quite better. ;D Nothing annoyed me, aside from the always-including non-believing character (which for some reason is always male), and the movie had a lot more action than the first too! The story takes a deeper look as to why there is a demon in the house and what it wanted. It ties seamlessly in with the first movie, providing footage of a haunting both before and after what happened to Micah and Katie. You really start to worry about whats happening to the family and what will befall the poor baby, Hunter. As for the ending....I finally figured out why they ended the first one the way they did. :-[

My Thoughts:
Ok, this one totally got me on all the jumpscares!
This movie was a nice sequel. There were a lot of scenes I enjoyed. Earthquakes. Bloody Mary. Zombie-like possession. Weird "imaginary friend" for the little kid that you all know is actually the thing haunting the house. The feel was very creepy, just like the last two movies. My only problem is that I feel a lack of continuity. Not to say it broke any previously established "rules" on how the demon worked or anything, but I just saw little connection to the last two movies; this should have served as a prequel, taking place in the 80s. I don't know ... maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention. Either way, this could have totally passed as a separate movie, not connected to the franchise. Or at least that's what I think. We still have a pretty good idea on the background with the grandparent and the demon from the second movie, so I'd say we're good in that respect.
This one is bringing everything the last two movies had ... but be warned ... there are plenty more jumpscares in this one! :P

Short film from Gore Verbinski, more secrets about The Ring
My Thoughts:
I have to say, the video itself was the scariest part of this movie…..it may be that I’ve seen the “Scary Movie” based off of it and already knew the jumpscares and plot twist (thanks to a horror movie special that I saw on TV Guide last year), but I would say this movie wasn’t nearly as bad (meaning “horrifying”) as I thought it would be.
Still pretty creepy, though. Especially when it comes down to how the kid was killed and how long she spent in the well before she died. The ghost’s main look is comparable to the Grudge, but I’m sure I’m just making connections that aren’t there, maybe…
If I get the chance, I’ll see if I can get my hands on the Japanese version. However, “The Ring” has a couple absolute gross-out moments, like when you see the bodies, so there are a few more things to look forward to, even if you’ve been exposed to too many spoilers like me. ^^;

First thing to say: My eyes lit up when I saw Billy & Mandy playing on their TV. :D
Now, about the movie … didn’t really have the “haunted video tape” vibe that the first movie had. This one was more about trying to possess the kid and the ghost’s desire to have a mommy. I really liked the background with the ghost’s real mother, her adoptive parents being covered in the first movie. And the tragic line of a mother having to kill her own child, for what really would be their own good, almost had tears in my eyes.

Blake McIver Ewing as Eugene Horowitz (voice) Sam Gifaldi as Sid (voice) Spencer Klein as Arnold (voice) Justin Shenkarow as Harold Berman (voice) Francesca Smith as Helga Pataki / Ghost Bride (voice) Christopher Walberg as Stinky Petersen (voice) Michael Welch as Curly Gammelthorpe (voice)
Opening:
Series Summary: Stories of a kid with a football-head, living in an urban neighborhood.
Episode Plot: The gang investigates a cemetary at night in search of the "Ghost Bride", who is said to hack her victims to pieces with an ax.
My Thoughts:
Wow, this is one of my favorite Halloween episodes. :) So much so that I remember really, really, really wanting a ghost bride costume for Halloween (maybe next year?), even if this episode really did give me the creeps.
When I was younger, this episode would freak me out so bad! One of my favorite kiddie horror stories. A great way to remember Hey, Arnold! too. Well, that and I have the movie on DVD. My one complaint? How is it Curly is cornered by the ghost bride and yet lives to see the rest of the series? Come on, ghost bride!! Think about your reputation!!! :slaphead:

Stars: Brad Pitt as Louis Christian Slater as Malloy Virginia McCollam as Whore on Waterfront John McConnell as Gambler Tom Cruise as Lestat
Plot: The undead are among us and livelier than ever when Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and a talented group of young-bloods star in Interview with the Vampire, the spellbinding screen adaptation of Anne Rice's best seller that's "one of the best films of the year" (Caryn James, The New York Times). Award-winning box-office favorite Cruise stylishly plays the supremely evil and charismatic vampire Lestat. Pitt is Louis, lured by Lestat into the inmortality of the dammed, then tormented by an unalterable fact of vampire life: to survive, he must kill. Stephanie Rea, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater and newcomer Kristin Dunst also star. One lifetime alone offers plenty of opportunities for the savage revelries of the night. Imagine what an eternity can bring. Hypnotically directed by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game), Interview with a Vampire offers enough thrills, shocks and fiendish fun to last a lifetime...and beyond.

My Thoughts:
This…was a lot better than I imagined. :)
Typically, with stories set so far in the past (unless it is a Shakespearean tragedy, or something similar) my mind tends to drift, and I cannot enjoy it. This was not the case.
That TV Guide special I mentioned in my “The Ring” review? That’s the one that told me about this movie. I found the idea of a little girl-vampire that went crazy because she couldn’t age fascinating, so I looked it up. I thought I got the title wrong when it opened to a vampire man drinking the blood of rats, but believe it or not the two things are actually connected. :P
In most parts, I see this movie as a sort of horrific comedy. I’m not sure what this says about me, but there were just some parts that had me even laugh out loud. Though, I also found myself crying at a particular death at exposure to sunlight. Then laughing again at the end of the film. Really, I just enjoyed it all around. I’m not sure what sort of a reputation the man had to have had to land an interview with a vampire, but he had some guts is all I’m going to say.

My Thoughts:
Saw this movie once before….watching the rest later. :P Sad to say that this one of the cases where a movie is scary upon release, but the special effects don’t look all that special a little over 20 years later. Though, it’s still one of the classics! Even wrote a report on him in 6th grade. It’s a bit comical in the fact that it just looks weird for that voice and violent actions to come from such a cute (at first) looking doll! I’m still dumbfounded as to how they can make a sequel from where this one left off, let alone four! It’s an ok movie, so I’m a bit excited to see what they did with it later.

Rating:

Opening:
Series Summary: Follows the adventures of the whole Rugrats gang. But, now they're all grown up. Angelica's nicer, Chuckie's a risk taker, and the rest of the gang have changed too. The adventures follow the gang in their pre-teen/teen years. Don't forget Spike and the grown ups; they're older, too.
Episode Plot: After heading into a camp to perform a play at the end of summer, Tommy and the gang head off into the woods to explore the legend of settlers who went missing and are haunting the spot.
My Thoughts:
Another favorite from my old TV shows. :)
I realize “All Grown Up” isn’t as ground-breaking as the Rugrats were, but a lot of times I found it more enjoyable, especially as I got older. This episode gave me the creeps, and it still does, a little. Only after watching the movies this year did I realize that they made a “The Ring” reference at the end with Tommy’s video tape. Kind of ashamed of myself for missing that all this time…

Plot: After being rebuilt by Play Pals Toy Company, Chucky reappears in the life of Andy Barclay, and the two battle it out for possession of the young boy's soul. Playtime's over!

My Thoughts:
Impressive opening, as I wasn’t sure how on earth Chucky could come back after the state he was in. A lot of sympathy for the Kyle and Andy characters, having to move between foster homes. The writers were sure to keep it realistic with where Andy was headed after that last adventure. Also … some very creative deaths were in here. Mainly at the toy company. I noticed there was a slightly more bold use of language, but nothing that major. All in all, a good follow-up to the first movie.

My Thoughts:
Is it bad that I laughed when the guy died of a heart attack instead of death by Chucky?
Being more serious, this one was able to keep my eyes open a little more. With Andy grown up and in military school, it’s a needed change in atmosphere. The new little boy, Tyler, seemed a little dense to me. After all, when a doll starts swearing, isn’t that a hint that it isn’t all that good? Either way, I also appreciate this one being a little more graphic with the gore…and the jokes. :P

Opening:
Series Summary: A kid paranormalist tries to prove that the new kid is in fact an alien bent on destroying the earth.
Episode Plot: Dib has to deal with flashes, being sucked into a parallel universe created by his own imagination. Also, trick-or-treaters are seen as candy-crazed zombies.
My Thoughts:
Invader Zim used to frighten me to no end as a kid….now it’s just funny. :D
Point #1: I love Gir <3
And of course, this strange parallel universe inside Dib’s imagination thing was cool too., This show is 100% random comedy, so if you don’t like that then you’ll probably give this a 1/10. The episode didn’t have as much of a Halloween thing as I would like, but they still did cool things with the candy and the trick-or-treaters which, hilariously enough, was a crucial point in the end. It’s…just that weird kind of funny!

My Thoughts:
It amazes me at how often Chucky is able to come back :P Something that I noticed was that here Chucky and his bride need an amulet to transfer to different bodies, yet I saw Chucky on no such search when he tried to get to Andy and Tyler’s bodies in the last three movies, but sequels do tend to have continuity glitches…
I actually laughed all of the way through this one. Chucky and Tiff really are like a doll-sized Bonnie and Clyde. The murders are getting more and more brutal and they just make it look funny! I may not be reviewing this one so much as a horror as it is a bloody comedy. Still…it’s worth a watch.

My Thoughts:
This one was ok…but for the sake of the horror in the franchise they should have stopped at Bride of Chucky, or even at Child’s Play 3. Seed of Chucky still had a lot of good gore and it was pretty funny too – I especially loved how Jennifer Tilly played both herself and Tiff – but I think a lot of the slasher, horror element is lost. I liked how there was a split personality thing with Glen/Glenda, but then again it might have been bringing a kid in that ruined it a bit. Really, it’s one of the ones that you can develop mixed feelings for.

Stephen Ouimette as Beetlejuice (voice) Alyson Court as Lydia Deetz (voice) Roger Dunn as Charles Deetz (voice) Elizabeth Hanna as Delia Deetz / Miss Shannon (voice)
Opening:
Series Summary: Beetlejuice, a wild ghost from the "Neitherworld," and his mortal best friend, a young girl named Lydia.
Episode Plot: Lydia loves an old tree she has named "Spooky," and is horrified when construction workers want to tear it down. She attempts to save the tree by chaining herself to it, but is left weakened by exhaustion and a hunger strike. Before her parents can take her home, she summons Beetlejuice to protect Spooky; Beetlejuice instead uses magic to bring the tree to life. Now if he can just convince Spooky to replant himself...
My Thoughts:
This was in a sort of bundle set of Halloween episodes of certain shows….this is really more of an Earth Day episode, if anything. Talk about pollution and efforts to save a tree. Nothing more spooky than ordinary for Beetlejuice. Still, it was pretty funny.

I thought they explained that the amulet was now needed because he had been inside Chucky's body for too long already?
I always found Bride of Chucky to be the most fun to watch... The first three are good in that they actually continue with the same main character, the third one indeed giving it a welcome change of scenery.

heh, maybe I just wasn't paying attention closely enough...
So, it's pretty obvious I won't finish the marathon this month, given that today is Halloween. Yup, I surrender. :surrender: no way to possibly reach that goal. I've been a busy person, between Spirit Week, Homecoming (both in which I had to take pictures for the school yearbook), school work, a little online job I have, and of course Halloween. Not to mention the recent hurricane....No real time for a marathon my senior year. :bag:
However, I plan to continue this marathon for however long I see fit. I plan to finish up all of the Halloween cartoons today to get me in a good Halloween-ish mood. The movies I will just keep watching whenever because it really is a shame that I've never seen these movies, and I intend to correct that.
I would start posting now, but as I have just woken up at midnight and spent a few hours styling a couple costume wigs and carving out a jack-o-lantern (as I even procrastinated that this year), I must sleep!
I shall post what I can when I awake. :D

Sarah / Lee Kanker (voice) Kathleen Barr ... Kevin / Marie Kanker (voice) Erin Fitzgerald ... May Kanker / Nazz (voice) Peter Kelamis ... Rolf (voice)
Opening:
Series Summary: The show follows 3 preteen boys who live in the town of Peach Creek. These three boys all have the same name but with very different personalities. They go around their suburban cul-de-sac neighborhood, thinking up scams to perform on the neighborhood kids so they can get cash and buy those mouth watering jawbreakers they all crave. Their scams usually fail and only leave them beaten up by the angry kids. Consider them outcasts.
Episode Plot: The Eds are ready to trick or treat, and Eddy's got a surprise, a map from his brother to a place called "Spook-E-Ville". Supposedly the people at Spook-E-Ville give out loads of candy on Halloween, and Eddy can't wait. The Eds head out to search for Spook-E-Ville until a problem occurs, Ed begins having monster hallucinations due to all of the monster movies he had watched before Halloween, and begins attacking the other kids of the cul-de-sac. Will the Eds make it to Spook-E-Ville before Halloween ends, or will Eds monster hallucinations stop them?
My Thoughts:
A lot of the classic Ed-boys humor. :D Not so much out of the ordinary for a Halloween special, but Ed's hallucinations were hilarious. As were the things he said. "You're mother wears combat boots!" XD
But then again, he's always like that, lolz. Watching Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy after enduring shows like Flapjack and Chowder is just what I needed!

Episode Plot: When genetically modified foods turn people into zombies, it's up to Manny to save the day.
My Thoughts:
I remembered this from years ago, though I don't recall it as a "mini-series" they would show between commercials....huh...
Still, even f I hate Degrassi and every other teen drama with a passion, I have to give it up for this. The acting is great. The effects were phenomenal, given what budget they probably had for a small event like this. I always feared death via being eaten alive, so themselves alone creeps me out. Every time I watch this its like a mini horror movie and the jumpscare at the end gets me every time.

But when Kate disrespects Miranda's ancestral skeleton decorations, spooky things start to happen. Could it be the work of the spirits of Miranda's offended ancestors?
My Thoughts:
I can't say I was ever fond of Lizzie McGuire. To be honest, I only ever watched it for the cartoon cutscenes. Still, I typically love anything to do with the Day of the Dead, a love even more instilled in me by my old Spanish teacher ;) The festive skeleton were beautiful in an eerie way and I always love to see a mean girl get what's coming to her. The idea of the kid being turned to mud or being trapped inside a bobble head.....that was pretty funny too!

Keith Alcorn, John A. Davis, Steve Oedekerk
Length:
22 min.
Rating:
Rated TV-Y
Stars:
Debi Derryberry ... James Isaac 'Jimmy' Neutron (voice) Jeffrey Garcia ... Sheen Estevez (voice) Rob Paulsen ... Carl Wheezer (voice) Mark DeCarlo ... Hugh Neutron (voice) Carolyn Lawrence ... Cindy Vortex (voice) Frank Welker ... Goddard (voice)
Opening:
Series Summary: Follows Jimmy Neutron, his faithful robotic dog, Goddard, and his eclectic friends and family as they experience life in Retroville. Jimmy is a typical kid, who just happens to be a genius. He creates gadgets to improve his everyday life, but his inventions go awry more often then not, and hilarious trouble ensues.
Episode Plot: Jimmy is getting tired of Trick-or-Treating, but his friends are all for it. He invents a machines that gives them awesome monster costumes on a molecular level in exchange for a large portion of their candy. However, the people start to become actual monsters.
My Thoughts:
Ah, this was good to see again. Loved when the monster kids all fought each other. The solution was hilarious, lol, "Flying octopuses is where I draw the line!" XD It was always my favorite episode of Jimmy Neutron. It seemed to drag on a bit, but I think that's just me getting tired. I loved the irony of Cindy being changed into a vampire when her costume was "Muffy the Vampire Slayer". Gotta love subtle references.

At this point, I would like to say that I cut out cartoons that weren't directly related to Halloween. :P There were actually too many repeat cases like that one Beetlejuice episode that was more Earth Day than anything. So yeah.

Billy & Mandy's Jacked-Up Halloween The Grim adventures of Billy & Mandy (Season 2, Episode 10)
Director:
Robert Alvarez, Juli Murphy
Length:
30 min.
Rating:
Rated TV-Y
Stars: Grey DeLisle...Mandy / Granny / Cowgirl (voice) Greg Eagles...Grim / Spirit / Knight (voice) Richard Steven Horvitz...Billy / Guy (voice) Wayne Knight...Jack (voice) Vanessa Marshall...Irwin / Toilet Paper Woman (voice)
Opening:
Series Summary: The grim reaper has to endure eternity with two children after losing a bet with them and has to be their best friend forever. Many hilarious supernatural adventures ensue.
Episode Plot: Jack, a headless prankster from Grim's past, uses Billy to steal Grim's scythe so he can destroy Grim and take over the world with demons from the Netherworld.
My Thoughts:
This...was actually slightly better than I remember it. With the pranks, when I was younger, I used to feel embarrassed for the characters. Now it's just funny. It's a very cool Halloween special that was kept perfectly in that old Billy & Mandy style - comedic, yet disturbing. ;D Just how I like it. The only thing I don't get? If pranking got you a pumpkin head in life, why in prank when in the underworld? :slaphead:

Series Summary: The story follows an egomaniac who hits on every girl he sees.
Episode Plot: Johnny calls for the help of Scooby-Doo and the gang to help find his missing Aunt Jebidisa.
My Thoughts:
I admit...Johnny still gets on my nerves :headscratch:
Still, it was really cool to see him and the Scooby gang work together. There was a great parody of their unmaskings and there was even a Speed Buggy cameo in the end. The episode was really just a way to make fun of Scooby-Doo, but it was still pretty cool.

Charles Adler...I.R. Baboon / Red Guy (voice) Michael Dorn...I.M. Weasel (voice)
Opening:
Series Summary: The adventures of a highly intelligent, talented and rather generous weasel and a stupid baboon who has no talent at most things.
Episode Plot: Weasel and Baboon are a pair of friendly vampires who drink only canned blood and are just looking for a fun little night on the town in Pantsylvania. But someone should try telling that to the vampire hunter Dr. Von Smellstein, who's out to get our heroes!
My Thoughts:
Quite a few stupid jokes....vampire turning into a baseball bat...the red guy using a stake to slay the vampires (medium rare). Kind of funny, but in that way where you're like "Really?" XD It's a nice short cartoon. I remember watching it with Cow and Chicken too...

Operation: T.R.I.C.K.Y. Codename: Kids Next Door (Season 3, Episode 11)
Creators:
Maxwell Atoms, Tom Warburton
Length:
12 min.
Rating:
Rated TV-Y7
Stars:
Mark Hamill...Stickybeard Dee Bradley Baker ...Numbuh 4 Ben Diskin...Numbuh 2 Lauren Tom ...Numbuh 3 Cree Summer...Numbuh 5
Opening:
Series Summary: Codename: Kids Next Door follows the escapades of five eager, yet bumbling, ten-year-olds as they join forces against adulthood to fight for the right to enjoy all the fun things in life
Episode Plot: It's trick-or-treat night, and Numbuh 4 sets off on his own to prove he can get more candy than his teammates - without even wearing a costume. But he only receives a single piece of butterscotch, and that ends up being stolen by Stickybeard and his candy pirates, who are taking trick-or-treat candy from neighborhood kids. Furious, Numbuh 4 races after them to retrieve his candy. At this rate, how will his candy count ever top that of his friends?
My Thoughts:
Honestly, these pirates are probably my least-favorite villains here, even behind the Toilenator. And I don't favor Numbah 4 either. But the humor with candy was nice. And I always did like the spy-kid thing this series had.

Jeff Bennett ...Johnny Bravo / Igor (voice) Larry Drake ... Pops (voice) Tom Kenny ...Carl (voice) Candi Milo...Bride of F (voice)
Opening:
Series Summary: The story follows an egomaniac who hits on every girl he sees.
Episode Plot: Johnny has a run-in with Dr. Frankenstein and sets out to marry the female reanimated corpse.
My Thoughts:
I feel sorry for the bride :P
I think this is a fairly memorable episode. the parody of marriage at the end was definitely worth a chuckle. Otherwise, it's typical Johnny Bravo.

Bloooo Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (Season 1, Episode 8 )
Creator:
Craig McCracken
Length:
24 min.
Rating:
Rated TV-Y7
Stars:
Keith Ferguson ... Blooregard Sean Marquette ... Mac Grey DeLisle ... Frances 'Frankie' Foster Tom Kenny ... Eduardo Phil LaMarr ... Wilt Candi Milo ... Coco Tom Kane ... Mr. Herriman

Here all sorts of odd characters, given up by their creators, are welcome to stay until new kids come to adopt them. Mac strikes a deal with Madame Foster, the proprietor: as long as he comes to visit every day, Bloo will not be put up for adoption.
Episode Plot: Frankie is scared of a hitchhiker and the imaginary friends think that Bloo.
My Thoughts:
Up front, I really like the reference to the hitchiker with a hook for a hand. :P And Ghostbusters. That was just fun to watch. And its surprising how much snot looks like ectoplasm. XD Another episode that was my favorite in the series. Gotta love the episodes where everyone is scared for no good reason.

Rating:
Rated TV-Y7
Stars:
Lara Jill Miller... Juniper Lee Alexander Polinsky... Dennis Lee Kath Soucie ...Ray Ray

Episode Plot: After a monster child accidentally turns himself and all the other monster children human on Halloween, Juniper has to follow a chain of favors to turn them back into their natural form.
My Thoughts:
#1 point: WHY WON'T THIS SHOW COME BACK?!!?!? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Like, seriously, Boomerang, anything! I was in love with this show and then suddenly there was nothing, and it seems that no one remembers it.
Now, as for the episode .... it is what I have to remember this show by and I couldn't be happier. ;D It's a story like "I have to trade this with this person to get this which I trade with this person to get this". It's just really funny to try to follow. And monsters dressing like humans for Halloween? That's a nice touch.

Christopher Landon (screenplay), Chad Feehan (story)
Length:
84 min.
Stars: Katie Featherston ...Katie Kathryn Newton...Alex Aiden Lovekamp... Wyatt Matt Shively...Ben Alexondra Lee...Holly William Juan Prieto...Hunter
Plot: It has been five years since the disappearance of Katie and Hunter, and a suburban family witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman and a mysterious child move in.
My Thoughts:
I have to say, I thought this was a great follow-up. There was nothing special about the family setting it took place in, but the backstory the girl and her boyfriend were able to dig up about the demon and what was happening in the house could really get you thinking.
After seeing the four movies, the only questions I still have is why Hunter is still alive about 5 years after his abduction … it just seems to me like he would have been sacrificed by now or something. But whatever.
I appreciate that the violence of the poltergeist seems to escalate on a faster pace than in the previous movies. Normally all of the good action happens toward the end of the movie, but I was also happy to see objects moving quickly, a knife falling straight into a board, and minor levitation even in the middle of the film. That kept my attention a little better.
Still, this movie was about an hour and a half long and it seems that all the film has progressed story-wise was involving another family years after the initial incident and giving a little more to go on as the why the demon is there and has focused on Hunter…which is a little disappointing.
