Weekend Movie Marathon
TV Stars in Movies
Just like everyone here... I love to watch movies. But the one thing I love even more then the movies is TV Series. I can go on and on... watching my favorite TV shows non-stop. So this weekend I am going into DVD Profiler and going to the hundreds of TV series that I collect... seeing what movies the stars has appeared in.
This gives me a huge selection of movies I could choose from (including movies I never seen before) while at the same time giving me what I think is an entertaining theme for this marathon. To give you an idea of just how huge of a list that I have to choose from... here is only a PARTIAL list of what I could watch. For the below list I just went through the stars of the TV Series that started with either a number (i.e. 21 Jump Street) or the letter A (i.e. American Gothic), B (i.e. Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or C (i.e. Charmed)... and I got the below huge list of movies.

Vanilla Sky I bought this one right around release date. Went to post on a site that I got it (not here)... and before I got to post that I picked it up someone posted in the thread about it... the end of the movie... without a spoiler tag! I was so aggravated! I just put it up and figured I would watch it once I forgotten what I read. But guess what... years later and it still keeps popping in my memory! This is one of the reasons I have such a huge pet peeve about people not using spoiler tags.
I had a similar thing happen with the classic movie Soylent Green... that one was spoiled for me before I could even buy it! There is always someone watching an old movie for the first time people! So I strongly believe that spoiler tags are important...No matter how old the movie is!
Sorry for the rant... but to this day I still get peeved about the movies that were spoiled for me!

Problem with Soylent Green is that even if you haven't gotten it spoiled, it is referenced so often in other media that want it or not, it's gonna get spoiled one way or another.
That being said, I'm in the same boat as you. I know what is Soylent Green ... without having yet seen the movie. :thumbdown:

This is because they never made any sequels. I can only assume that if they did ever make sequels to The Matrix, they would be so mind-numbingly bloody awful I would wipe their existence from my memory in an effort to protect my sanity. Thank goodness I've never had to do that!

It has been a while now... so can't be completely sure how Soylent Green got spoiled for me. But that one may have been an episode of a TV Series or something. Still really pissed me off though! :thumbdown:

My Thoughts:
I originally went into this movie thinking I never seen it before. But I actually have seen it before. The scary part is it wasn't even a year ago (May 2010) and I didn't remember seeing this one!?!? This movie is in the style of movies such as The Blair Witch Project and St. Francisville Experiment... which is a sub-genre that some are calling "Found Footage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Found_footage)". So if you do not like that style of movie then this one is definitely not for you. I personally enjoy that style of movie. I wouldn't say it is the best of this type that I have seen... but I did enjoy it. First of all I did like that they had Jennifer Carpenter in this movie. Since first seeing her on Dexter I have become a fan of her's. I liked the base storyline. I liked how they had fun with Jennifer Carpenter's character's interaction with the firemen before things got serious. And there were a couple good jump scenes. At the same time I felt some of the scenes were too dark and the camera a little too shaky... though I guess these things needed to be to make it look as realistic as possible. It just made it a bit on the hard side to watch.

While I agree with Jon, that the sequels are rather terrible, I guess you'll have to see them at least once. The third one is the worst, so there is nothing to look forward to while watching the second :laugh: The special effects look good, so at least it's pretty to look at at times.
As for spoilers, well, as I wrote in another thread just yesterday, a truly good film is never about the end alone and can be enjoyed even with knowledge of the ending. However, there obviously is an added element to the whole thing, if you get to experience the end as intended. I agree that crucial elements of films are never o.k. To openly discuss, as there will always be people who haven't seen the film.

My Thoughts:
I have never been much of an Ashton Kutcher fan. He is usually pretty hit and miss for me... usually more misses then hits. But I thought the plot of this movie sounded interesting... so was looking forward to giving this one a try. When I saw that the DVD had both the Theatrical Cut as well as the Director's Cut... I decided to go for the director's cut. If someone out there that seen both versions... please let me know if the Theatrical cut is any better and I will watch it the next time. But over all I am glad I watched this one today. I found the movie to be worth watching.... but not what I would call outstanding. I liked the basic storyline... and I like how it ended. I even enjoyed Ashton Kutcher in this one. Well about as much as I could... I wouldn't say he was great in the role... but definitely better then some of the stuff I have seen him in. I really liked how they handled the time travel in this one. It wasn't hard to understand at all... possibly even a little too simplified. This movie is definitely worth checking out. And I am even looking forward to checking out part 2. Who knows I may even enjoy it more without Ashton Kutcher in it this time.

After watching part one earlier today... thought I would give part 2 a try. Especially after finding out that Erica Durance is in it. It is a good story... but I don't know. For some reason it didn't impress me as quite a much as the first one. I really didn't care for the business angle that was added to this one as much. But it is ok... worth watching for what it is. I am even considering giving part 3 a chance.

I believe we briefly discussed the two different endings (which is the main difference between the two cuts) somewhere, but it was not following Tom's review, as I thought. I think I preferred the Theatrical, but others liked the Director's Cut more.
From what I remember, I liked the theatrical more too. The Director's cut ending just went too far for me.

I usually forget which is which.
The one I don't like is...
where he ends up committing suicide as a baby in his mother's womb, as he figured just meeting her anytime in life will mess her up. The other one, where he makes her not like him as a little boy makes more sense to me as for how far back he should be allowed to go and still be able to make conscious decisions. I mean, a baby committing suicide, really?

Found myself in the mood for a comedy this morning. When I first popped this one in I was really enjoying it. Until it got to about the halfway point. There it lost a little something. This one is entertaining... but not what I would call great. I do think that Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn made a pretty good team.

I definately prefer the director's cut. I remember that one of us prefers the theatrical cut. It could have been you.
I think I've seen the Director's cut if it's the one Achim described. I'd tell you what I thought of the theatrical version, but that would involve having to watch the film again, which I don't plan on ever doing again. :whistle:

I quite liked the third part (I have it reviewed before). I think you will enjoy it also. It's a slasher movie with a time-travel twist.

On the first one... if it is true that the only difference between the theatrical version and the Director's Cut is the ending... I may go back and just watch the last say 3 or 4 chapters of the theatrical to see the alternate ending. or can it be seen in one of the extras? :P

While you list Jane Seymour as a TV star, I think the first thing I ever actually saw her in was a theatrical film. She was the Bond girl in Roger Moore's first James Bond film, Live and Let Die which I think came out in 1973.

On the first one... if it is true that the only difference between the theatrical version and the Director's Cut is the ending... I may go back and just watch the last say 3 or 4 chapters of the theatrical to see the alternate ending. or can it be seen in one of the extras? :P
In the director's cut there are also a few additional scenes throughout the movie, which had to be cut when the ending was changed for the theatrical cut. Without them, the alternate ending will not make much sense.

The movie "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve is the first thing that jumps to my mind when I hear her name!

Well it was for me, but I really like both main actors and the time travel aspect of the movie; but it is essentially a romance movie.

Sounds like for me it may be iffy... I will hold off... if I see it extremely cheap (or is given to me) I will probably give it a chance.

My Thoughts:
This one I enjoyed quite a bit. My favorite movie so far this weekend. They went somewhere a bit new for Alien and Predator movies (that I have seen)... in that they involve a whole town instead of being in a secluded area. Which I found to be a nice change of pace for these movies. I really liked Reiko Aylesworth's character in this one. This is the first time I seen her in anything other then 24... which was cool. And a little weird at the same time. While watching... every time she was on the screen I almost felt like... where is Jack Bauer to help his friend! :P
Anyway... as I said... it is a nice change of pace for the movies. There was some pretty cool effects... not to mention the cool toys the Predators had. This is one I would feel comfortable recommending if you enjoyed the other Alien and Predator movies. Hopefully you would find the change of pace as enjoyable as I did.

My Thoughts:
Thought I would go with a comedy the first thing this morning. Unfortunately I did end up with much of one. I wasn't even half an hour in and I wondered if I could make it through this movie. I did somehow make it till the end of the movie. I am not sure how... I was somehow unable to look away. The movie is very predictable.. I knew where it was going every step of the way. And worst of all... as hard as it tried it just was not funny. I wasn't even able to crack a smile watching this one. Well at least not till the end credits when they showed some out-takes. They were the best thing about the entire movie. This movie has some very pretty girls in it. But they do more then play down their looks... they actually sabotage them. Giving them these huge hairdos and I don't know what else. I will be a bit generous with my rating of this movie for the sole reason I did enjoy the outtakes during the end credits as much as I did.

:laugh: Nope I don't own The Godfather. And I say this with the fear of being run out of this site. There is no way I would enjoy The Godfather. I cannot think of a single movie about organized crime that I actually liked. I have seen bits and pieces of The Godfather on cable... and even then I didn't like what I saw. So I do not believe that would be the right turn for me right now. :P

Let Me In and Let the Right One In were both amazing. Seriously fuck Twilight, these are real vampire movies. It's such a beautifully told story.

I watched that recently. While certainly not in my top ten, I'll come out and say it's a super solidly made fun movie. Matthau is in top form and the plot unfolds marvelously.
