Isn't it funny when a format who is supposed to be so successfull, so awesome and in every house must be discounted at 75% of its value to be sold
Never met such a phenomenon yet :whistle:Isn't it funny when a format who is supposed to be so successfull, so awesome and in every house must be discounted at 75% of its value to be sold
::)
Yeah, because DVDs aren't discounted at all are they?
Yeah, because DVDs aren't discounted at all are they? They wasn't by 75% when the format was in its beginning... It was quite the contrary in fact, a 30$+ dvd wasn't an exception but the norm (I even got regulary dvd for more than 50$ here and it was for film not TV show).
We have no rules here, OK, no need to yell at me!Good Lord it was a joke...
Sorry if it was that offensive to you :shrug:Probably got me in the wrong mood (was a bit tired last night), so apology accepted.
BTW your post is always there to announce the special and you will be able to post the next one so I don't see the big deal in the fact that some of us had a sideline discussion.
Probably got me in the wrong mood (was a bit tired last night), so apology accepted. :cheers:No problem we all have our bad days and I know I can write in a rough way sometimes wich doesn't help ;)
BTW: do you really believe in the "Blu-Ray conspiracy"?Sure I believe in the Blu-Ray conspiracy.
Without decent content at affordable prices every media is doomed to fail.A product can easilly survive even if the price are high. By exemple the video tape price were high, the majority of what I bought was in a price range between 65 and 100$. Wich was surely not afordable, but this format was dominant for at least 20 years
Sadly this means that in the long run the Blu-Ray will replace the DVDWich isn't the case. Once again the propaganda makes people believed that Blu-Ray sales are incredible wich they aren't. All my contacts in the industry tell me again and again that Blu-Ray don't sell at all, even the Roger Corman's one that I talk so much about sell ten times more dvd when the 2 format are available. Without the propaganda the BR isn't more successfull than the CD-Films or the Universal Media Discs were.
Does anybody still remember 8-Track or audio-cassettes?Those 8-Tracks tape had a big disavantage : it wasn't easy to find a song on them.
Two years of propanga from paid "specialist" succeed to make people believed it was an improvment. It succeed so much that the eyes believe it's better because the brain is conditioned by the multiple repeating that it is. Now they make you believe a cable HD signal is better, but it isn't (easy to compare since my brother had a cable with an HD signal and a regular one) and it's the same with the movies.
Do you think you're talking to idiots?Of course not ;D
I'm sat right next to a DVD/Blu-Ray set-up right now and I can damn well tell the difference yet you're trying to tell me it's all my head and I've been brainwashed? ???When a person is conditionned to make him believed something is true it is well engraved in his brain. That was prooved many times in scientific experimentations (by exemple had mice starved to death by giving them an electric shock each time they touch food, conditionning them to do the connection that food equals pain). The brain works in unexpected way and it often defy the logic.

There is nothing negative in my comment Jon, but like I said the brain was conditioned by years of propaganda repeating...
By the way, I think the thread is going off-topic again! :laugh:I agree on this part
Two years of propanga from paid "specialist" succeed to make people believed it was an improvment.Jon may have forgotten, but I remember this. I think the "specialist" assigned to Invelos.com called "Ascended_Saiyan" or something like thatc he droned on and in in a dedicated thread, trying to convince people of the better PQ and the superiority of Blu-ray over HD DVD. I am sure James will remember...
Now they make you believe a cable HD signal is better, but it isn't (easy to compare since my brother had a cable with an HD signal and a regular one) and it's the same with the movies. If you don't see the difference between a SD signal and the HD signal then hi-def is obviously not for you. But I can tell you, the difference is there and it's tremendous. Saying Full HD isn't needed is your opinion and I value that. Saying HD (or then even Full-HD) is not better is a whole different beast.
I'm not putting words in your mouth, they are there for everyone to see!Yes you do. Everything I've written is about the brain conditionning and the effect it creates on the viewers, it's really far from the idea of a brainless zombie...
Depending of the film there can be a vast difference in the quality of the viewing experience between the blu-ray and regular version of a movieI'm sure some some movie looks better, but I just can't believe the majority does... At least the one I've watched didn't throw me out of my chair.
Hopefully this will drive the prices down on regular DVDs for the rest of us! :yahoo:This one sure count as a positive in my book
Jon may have forgotten, but I remember this. I think the "specialist" assigned to Invelos.com called "Ascended_Saiyan" or something like thatI remember this guy, he was the reason why I don't frequent the HD forum on DVDP. He was boring to read
I think your mixing things up here.Without decent content at affordable prices every media is doomed to fail.A product can easilly survive even if the price are high. By exemple the video tape price were high, the majority of what I bought was in a price range between 65 and 100$. Wich was surely not afordable, but this format was dominant for at least 20 years
And the reason why it lived for such a long time is as simple as: Lack of alternatives.CD-Film (I can't remember what was the real name of this format ) and the laser disc appeared while the VHS was still going strong, so there was an alternative. But I can agree that none of them was big public.
The much more threatening enemy for physical media is already there: Downloads.I won't disagree on this but for a real collector Digital Download isn't an alternative, we need to have something in our hands and a file on a computer is boring. I supposed that it was about the legal download and not the other type you were talking about
I supposed that it was about the legal download and not the other type you were talking aboutOf course.
Wich will bring me to give one advantage for the Blu-Ray, there is less piracy for this format because the files are too big and incredibly long to download.Digital downloads are not intended for modem connections... Heck, even ADSL has it's limits for streaming such contents, but at leats downloads can be done in a reasonable time.

What's the "cinematic" Independence Day?
Hopefully we wouldn't find too many users of this site interested in this.
That's a very thin reason to waste a tenner! Why not rent it instead?
I am curious if it is really as bad as they say.It is!
Why buy a bunch of films you probably won't even like, nevermind watch again? For the fun of taking chances and discover real gem ;D
It definitely isn't my favorite movie...but I have seen worse.I have seen worse too, of course, but not many
For the fun of taking chances and discover real gem ;DOh, for sure! I have always ben saying the same, actually. (When we follow eah other's recommendations here is pretty much like that!) But this is bay's Transformers 2 we are talking about  Heck, the main actor said it was shit and I think even Bay mentioned that he may have gone too far...
I just wanted to order Star Trek Into Darkness because it is on sale today, but I noticed that shipping cost is it added to my order now. Is this normal now? Until now Blu-rays had free shipping.
