Title: Bionic Woman Episode Reviews

The Bionic Woman is an American television series which spun off from The Six Million Dollar Man. It stars Lindsay Wagner as Jaime Sommers, a tennis professional who was nearly killed in a skydiving accident, and was rebuilt by Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) and Dr. Rudy Wells (Martin E. Brooks), who had also rebuilt The Six Million Dollar Man. As the result of her surgical implantation, Jaime Sommers had amplified hearing in her right ear, a greatly strengthened right arm, and enhanced legs, enabling her to run faster than a speeding car.

Stars:
Lindsay Wagner as Jaime Summers
Richard Anderson as Oscar Goldman
Martin E. Brooks as Dr. Rudy Wells

My Thoughts:
Now that I am to the point where I believe I can easily get my goal in my horror marathon... I don't feel bad about watching some of my non-horror stuff. And this is a series I have been waiting a very long time to see again.. so I thought I would jump right in on the season 1 set. Plus I hope to add to this thread as the other two seasons are HOPEFULLY released.

This show... and the Six Million Dollar Man are shows I grew up watching. So there is a whole lot of nostalgic value here for me. I am also hoping that I will be able to share the love for this series with Brittany. I will be starting this series with the first appearances of The Bionic Woman... which was on 4 episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man.

Bionic Woman: Season 1

Original Airdate: March 16, 1975

The original second season The Six Million Dollar Man episode where Jaime Sommers becomes the Bionic Woman.

My Thoughts:
Wow... did I enjoy watching this first episode of the set. While watching this episode I actually felt like a kid sitting in front of the TV again. I was worried on how well this show would hold up for me... but I shouldn't have been. It held up great. I must say while Steve and Jaime was getting to know each other again (they were childhood sweethearts)... and they went to one of their favorite spots by the lake. They kept getting disturbed by kids playing football... they kept getting hit by the football. And how Steve took care of that little problem definitely gave me a chuckle.

I don't know how this would be to a first time viewer today... but to an old fan it is so much fun seeing the show again. Part of me really wants to start the next episode... and see the ending of this 2-part story. But another part of me wants to save it for sometime tomorrow. We will just have to see which side wins out.

Bionic Woman: Season 1

Original Airdate: March 23, 1975

Jaime Sommers is sent on her first assignment for the OSI in this second season The Six Million Dollar Man episode.

My Thoughts:
What a great... not to mention sad conclusion to the storyline. As I have said... it has been many, MANY years since I seen this show. And I because of that I pretty much forget all that happens in the series storyline wise. At the end of this episode it showed that Jaime Sommers died from her body rejecting the bionics. We all know that this is turned around somehow since she ended up with her own series. But I forget how they explain this away to bring her back. Which I will have to hurry and watch the next one so I can find out. Either way... an excellent but sad episode.

Original Airdate: September 14, 1975

Steve Austin learns that Jaime Sommers is still alive after seeing her die from a Bionic rejection. However, Jaime has suffered brain damage and no longer remembers anything about her past life, including Steve.

My Thoughts:
Another outstanding episode! Their explanation for bringing her back was done fairly well. Not great... but acceptable. I just can't get over how Steve is handling it all. First they try to keep it from him that she is still alive. Then he finds out she has no memory of him. Then he finds out she has developed feelings for one of the doctors. And yet he just takes it like... we will see what happens. If it was me and the woman I loved... I would be going completely nuts! I have to admit though... I did get a kick out of the part where Jaime wanted to play hooky from her workouts and just wanted to play... so she started a bionic pillow fight with Steve. That just made me laugh.

Original Airdate: September 21, 1975

In an attempt to restore Jaime Sommers's memory, Steve Austin takes the recuperating Jaime to their hometown of Ojai, California. However, facing her past results in violent headaches and confusing flashbacks.

My Thoughts:
More of the same for the second part of this one. I definitely enjoyed it. Still feels like Steve's reaction to the whole thing isn't really realist. Admirable... yes... but just not realistic. You can tell Jaime believes there was something between her and Steve before at this point... but seems like she isn't really ready to face it.

Original Airdate: January 14, 1976

Oscar Goldman arranges a job for Jaime as a school teacher, but she also insists on taking on missions for OSI.

My Thoughts:
Ok... this is an odd situation. The packaging and menu claims that this is an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man... but the opening sequence and everything I read on the web says it is the very first episode of The Bionic Woman. I decided to trust the opening credits and all I read on the web over the  packaging an menu of the DVD release. Which essentially means there is only 4 episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man in the set instead of the advertised 5. But we don't loose any entertainment value as it also means we gain an episode in The Bionic Woman episode list.

I really liked this episode a lot. I especially enjoyed how Jaime handled becoming a teacher to a class of kids that are a bit on the rough and rowdy side. As many years as it been... I remembered well the way she cleaned out the apartment above the barn that she is living in with her bionics. The minute she opened those big double windows I thought to myself... here it comes. I also liked that she finally knows that her and Steve were engaged. That felt like to me it corrected a wrong in the last couple of episodes.

Oscar arranges a "falling out" with Jaime so that she can go undercover in businessman Carlton Harris's shady organization and determine whether he is trading illegal government secrets.

My Thoughts:
Great conclusion to the storyline. Really enjoyed every minute of it. Lots of time showing Jaime using her bionics. Jaime has to go to multiple places to steal sensitive government documents and items within the one evening to maintain her cover. so between that and bringing Carlton Harris to justice she is using her bionics in most the scenes of this episode. Which is of course fun to watch. And on her personal life... her students is getting to know and like her already. Which seems to me to be a little fast considering this is only the second episode... and they were supposed to be troubled students.

When Jaime is sent to Costa Brava with ace helicopter pilot Jack Starkey to rescue the US ambassador and his family, the mission becomes infinitely more complicated when the ambassador's wife is trapped in a collapsed building

My Thoughts:
Another excellent episode. This one has Andy Griffith guest starring as Jack Starkey (helicopter pilot helping Jaime). I really liked how they did his character... throughout the episode he seemed like a great guy... but at the same time a bit sexiest (at least by today's standards) and not believing a woman should be out there. I liked how they always had him running at the mouth and how every time Jaime needed to use her bionics she somehow worked it out to give him the credit. But when there was no more hiding her bionics it went from running his mouth to yes Mame.

Jaime is the only one that can help an old friend and bus driver when thugs discover that he has been hiding out in Ojai since witnessing a murder years ago. Lee Majors co-stars.

My Thoughts:
As many times as this has happened to me I just can never get over it. This is an episode (the show even) that I have not seen in many years... but yet for some reason this episode really stuck in my mind. I remembered so much of it... that it almost felt like I have recently seen it.

This one is a very good episode. Though I don't know why the overview made a point out of telling us that Lee Majors co-stars in this one... as he was only in 2 very short scenes in the entire episode. I must say I got a kick out of the picnic scene with Jaime's class... where Jaime was playing a little baseball and forgot her own strength and hit the ball literally out of the park.

Fur is sure to fly when Jaime protects a lion and the other creatures of a wild animal ranch from ranchers out for blood.

My Thoughts:
This one I also somewhat remembered... not as much as the last one... but there was some scenes I remembered quite well. I noticed a familiar looking face in this episode... and then I saw the name in the credits... Tippi Hendren. Who I (of course) know from The Birds. It was pretty cool seeing the all the different animals in this one. Definitely enjoyed this one as well.

Jaime is forced to investigate her friend, J.T. Connors, after a missile is launched from his property at the very moment the US missile warning system breaks down.  Lee Majors co-stars.

My Thoughts:
Once again... I enjoyed this episode. At least this time I see the sense in stating that Lee Majors is in this episode in the overview. As he is in a good amount of this one. Though he barely used his bionics at all in this episode. This one wasn't an episode that stuck in my mind... there was extremely little (if anything) that looked familiar to me so was like watching it again for the first time. So that was a plus.

Beauty and brawn is on display when Jaime enters a Miss United States pageant in order to infiltrate a nefarious espionage plan.

My Thoughts:
They have to do it with every series that involves a female hero... have her as a plant in a beauty contest. And this show is no different. But I must ask... why did they have to make her talent singing? And if that isn't bad enough... they made us listen to her sing it not once... but twice. Other then that it is a very good episode.

Jaime's dream about her mother leaves her feeling disturbed - especially when she recieves word that her parents' graves have been vandalized.

Hoping to obtain vital information from a foriegn country, Jaime becomes a navagator in an international desert auto race.

My Thoughts:
Unfortunately this one wasn't quite as good as the previous ones either. I mean sure the car race in the desert was a bit of fun... but it also seemed to limit the uses of the bionics a little. And the storyline could have been a little better as well.

When she is captured by a group that is scheming to steal an atomic-powered device, Jaime's life depends on a small boy who has "cried wolf" in the past.

My Thoughts:
This one I enjoyed more then the previous couple. I liked the visual of the desert where a lot of this episode takes place. I also liked the look of the jet pack suit. This is the last episode on disc 3... after watching the episodes I watched the extras on the disc. There is a gag reel which was too short and wasn't cleaned up as the episodes were.  And then there was a brand new featurette with interviews from the cast And I must say... even though she is starting to show her age... Lindsay Wagner is still a beautiful woman.

A woman undergoes plastic surgery in order to become Jaime's double and steal privileged information from Oscar's files.

My Thoughts:
It seems a bit odd to have two stories in a row about someone attempting to frame Jaime. The story on this one is even better then the last one. And gave the chance for Lindsay Wagner to play a duel role. Which I think she pulled off pretty well... though her southern accent seemed a little too fake... at least she didn't have to use it too much. They of course went with the obvious when it came time to tell which was which at the end... just had Jaime do something bionic. Which is understandable... but I think it was so extremely obvious they should have surprised us and not even have it be an issue... putting them in the situation where they had to tell the two apart.

My Thoughts:
What an episode to end the first season on! I loved every minute of it! This one has a young Kristy McNichol in it. Really enjoyed this episode... putting Jaime up against something she really can't control with physical force... she has to get into the mind of a little girl to solve this problem.

Well... that puts this thread to a rest till they decide to release season 2. Hopefully there won't be a very long wait... as I enjoyed this set even more then I thought I would.

I remember watching the first episode on TV. It wasn't so bad but I just never got around to watching it again, and then it seemed to be cancelled really quickly.

Bionic Woman: Season 2

Original Airdate: September 19, 1976

When Steve Austin becomes the main suspect in a series of crimes that would require bionic strength, Jaime comes to his aid to stop the nefarious plot for world domination.

My Thoughts:
This first episode is a crossover episode of The Six Million Dollar Man which of course continues on the first episode of The Bionic Woman. In this episode Bigfoot is played by Ted Cassidy (Lurch on The Addams Family). Another familiar face in this one is Sandy Duncan.  This is a good episode. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Kept interest enough to make me want to go straight to the next episode.

Bionic Woman: Season 2

Original Airdate: September 19, 1976

In an effort to save Steve from a grim fate, Jaime attempts to outrun the Sasquatch in order to retrieve a miracle serum from friendly extraterrestrials.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this continuation of the previous storyline even more then the first part. For some reason it was even more fun to see Jaime going up against Sasquatch then it was to see Steve vs. him. Being part 2 it had all the same guest stars as the last episode. I thought the way the episode ended was a little convenient... but I enjoyed the episode so much that it really didn't matter to me any at all.

Jaime hits the professional wrestling mats to find a missing undercover OSI agent, but she's dealt a blow when she discovers her competitors are working with foreign agents.

My Thoughts:
Jaime in the wrestling ring.... talk about fun! She looks hot as ever too! The Indian outfit was ok... but I really liked how she looked in what she wore when she first went to the auditorium. This episode didn't have too many faces I recognized... but there was one very familiar face... Norman Fell (Mr. Roper on Three's Company). Definitely a fun episode... I enjoyed ever second of it.

There's plenty of high-seas suspense when Jaime poses as a blackjack dealer on a luxurious floating casino and finds her mission to retrieve stolen energy cells complicated by an old enemy.

My Thoughts:
This one has to be my least favorite episode of season 2 so far.  It is ok... but I felt it was a little on the slow and boring side. It was however, funny to see the return of the aggravating guy that has the hots for Jaime from the season one episode where they are in the plane crash.

Jaime's bionic listening skills are put to the test when she flies to the bustling Nashville music scene to investigate country legend Big Buck Buckley, who seems to be passing top-secret information through his songs.

My Thoughts:
Anyone that knows me at all already know I didn't care for this episode. While it did have it's moments.... mostly when Jaime was using her bionics...I had a hard time getting through this one. Way too much singing for my taste. Even at the very beginning and the very end of the episode when Jaime's students were singing in the classroom.... rehearsing for a talent show. If that isn't bad enough they made one of the kids completely tone deaf... so listening to her sing made it even worse.

Original Airdate: October 27, 1976

It's up to Jaime to protect Oscar when former scientist Dr. Franklin implants robotic secretaries (Fembots) at the OSI headquarters with commands to abduct the boss.

My Thoughts:
A good start to this 3 part episode. The next part originally aired on The Six Million Dollar Man... but thankfully they thought ahead enough to add the bonus of that episode so we have the entire storyline. Obviously, since this is a 3 episode storyline... this episode ends in a cliffhanger. So needless to say... I can't wait to go on to the next episode. But I do think it will have to wait till tomorrow. I am done for this evening.

While Jaime fights for her life, Steve races to Dr. Franklin's compound to rescue Oscar and immediately finds himself caught in a precarious trap.

My Thoughts:
Great episode! This episode was originally an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man. Thankfully they added it to this set so that we get the entire storyline. While I loved every minute of this episode... I instantly knew where they were going with it. Not sure if it was because it was pretty obvious... because I just barely remember this episode from many years ago.... or a little of both. While this was an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man... Jaime Sommers still had a pretty big part in the episode. Mainly just from a hospital bed.... but she was there... and was helping as much as she could. Now I got to go watch the next episode... the final episode in this storyline.

Dr. Franklin is seemingly impervious to attack with his stolen weather-control machine, but Jaime and Steve are determined to make one last desperate attempt to save their kidnapped colleagues.

My Thoughts:
Going into this one I was somehow remembering it wasn't as good as the first two parts. So I wasn't really expecting as much from this episode. My memory was slightly off... this episode wasn't quite as good as the last episode... but pretty much on par with the first part.  So I still enjoyed it very much. Over-all this three episode storyline was one of the best I have seen for this series. I really had a good time watching it again after many years!

An eerie bayou manor sets the scene for the reading of a wealthy inventor's last will as Jaime impersonates his long-lost relative in order to find out who is selling the dead man's secrets on the black market.

My Thoughts:
An episode of The Bionic Woman with guest star Vincent Price! Vincent Price is one of my favorite classic horror stars. So seeing him in an episode is very cool for me! And Vincent Price isn't the only familiar face in this episode. There is also Abe Vigoda and Julie Newmar. I must say I absolutely loved this episode! Oddly... I really don't remember anything about this one from when I watched this show as a kid. Normally some of the episode seems familiar. But not this time. Which probably added to my enjoyment since it actually felt like watching it for the first time. Anyway... this one has become one of my favorite episodes of the set.

Disguised as a nun Jaime infiltrates a secretive convent with a mission to seek out who amongst the sisters is trading a fortune in industrial diamonds.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. A fun watch. And I must admit... Jaime even looks good dressed as a nun! There really wasn't any familiar faces in this one. At least not familiar to me. It was fun seeing Jaime use her bionics to help do the chores so she could nose around. Having the other nuns thinking she was performing some sort of miracles.

A routine refueling stop becomes something much more deadly when Jaime and Michael Marchetti discover a seemingly abandoned island military base with everything left running.

My Thoughts:
Another episode I really enjoyed. Had a real Invasion of the Body Snatchers feel to it. But instead of pods cloning you it has a basic life-form found on a meteor taking over people mind to help it survive  through some sort of sound waves. I also liked that it happens on an island that is deserted other then the army base.

When Oscar finds evidence of a major plot by foreign agents, he sends Jaime undercover as a police academy cadet to expose which of her classmates is working as an enemy operative.

My Thoughts:
I have been looking forward to this one. It is one of the very few episodes I remember seeing years ago. This is a two part storyline that continues into the next episode. But at the same time... remembering the episode so well also meant I remembered instantly who the foreign agent was. Which is a bit disappointing since it has been so many years since I seen it. Jamie and her police academy roommate are assigned to a precinct where an enemy agent is posing as a file clerk and plotting to kidnap a visiting diplomat.

My Thoughts:
Going into this one I didn't remember as much about it as I did the first part. Which helped in a little extra enjoyment for me. This one is a good conclusion to the previous episode. The foreign agent is played by Rebecca Balding. When I saw her names in the credits over the last 2 episodes I kept thinking I know that name... but just couldn't place it. After the episode was over I looked to see who she is. Turns out I knew her from the TV Series Charmed... she played Phoebe's boss Elise. Wow! She really changed over the years... no wonder I didn't recognize her.

A cryptographer who has perfected a coding analyzer is furious when his research funds are cut... and dangerously jealous of his scientist-brother's financial success.

My Thoughts:
This episode is pretty good... though not quite as good as the previous ones I have been watching. It is basically about a guy that can use an advanced form of meditation to do some amazing things. He ends up following Jaime on a case involving his brother. Using these abilities in the case. After the episode I listened to some of the commentary track as well. Listened to enough to find out that the idea for this story came from Lindsay Wagner herself (who does the commentary)... as she herself has been huge into meditation.

Jaime struggles to access and disarm the heavily guarded master computer, and the battle becomes desperate—and potentially deadly—when she sustains damage to her bionic limb.

My Thoughts:
This episode was much better. I really liked the whole Jaime vs the Alex 7000 computer. I just loved every minute of this one. It is almost twice as good as the part 1 of the story. I think the part of this one I enjoyed the most is when Jaime injured her leg... how she was able to fix it... and how the Alex 7000 tried to take advantage of the situation.

Bionic Woman: Season 2

Original Airdate: February 2, 1977

When she awakens inside a prison cell, Jaime soon realizes that she has been switched with her surgically created look-alike, Lisa Galloway.

My Thoughts:
When I first started this episode I was extremely disappointed. While the background sound/music wasn't bad at all... all the dialog was muffled so badly I couldn't hear a word they were saying... no matter how high I turned up the volume. I literally had to turn on the subtitles to see what was being said. Thankfully this only lasted 9min and 30secs. I looked at the time when the audio came in right. But none the less... big disappointment there. So I went looking into this online to see if I had a bad copy or what. And turned out they are all like this. That the studio had to use a master that was bad or something like that... and they brought it in as much as possible. So no correction/exchange program available to fix this.

Beyond that problem... the episode itself is excellent! I loved every minute of it! It is another 2 part episode (yes... 2 two parters in a row)... so I really can't wait to see where they go with the story from here. There is a familiar face in this one. Katherine Helmond who played Mona on Who's the Boss plays a prison doctor.

Jaime manages to escape from prison, but is unable to convince anyone. Including Oscar, of her real identity... or Lisa's.

My Thoughts:
An excellent conclusion to the storyline. I loved every minute of it. And it seems that this will be the last time we will see the "other" Jaime. I don't know what I liked more... the part where Jaime was on the run after escaping from jail... or the end where Jaime faced Lisa in her apartment. Probably the end. Thankfully there was no problems with the audio on this episode. There is six more episodes to go in the season... hopefully there won't be any more problems at all.

Bionic Woman: Season 2

Original Airdate: February 23, 1977

A powerful Sha's life is endangered, and so Jaime goes undercover as a tutor working with his difficult son.

My Thoughts:
While this episode wasn't quite as good as the previous few... seeing Lindsay Wagner in that harem outfit is worth the rating alone. She definitely looked good! While watching this episode I thought the boy prince looked very familiar (see last image below). When I checked to see who he was I found out he was the teen in the original version of Salem's Lot. And I was a bit surprised to see he was even lucky enough to get a quick peck of a kiss on the lips from Lindsay Wagner in this episode. You know darn well that kid was enjoying his job that day.

While reviewing an episode on disc 4 of the season 2 set I mentioned...

Shortly after I wrote this... the studios apparently found (probably always had) a good master for the audio to fix the problem. And they did an exchange program after all. So did this. Yesterday the replacement disc arrived. Reminding me that I wanted to work more on this marathon. But before I do I want to put that replacement disc in and see how much better it is. :P

Bionic Woman: Season 2

Original Airdate: March 9, 1977

A withdrawn girl who has not spoken since her mother's death causes Jaime concern—but not as much as the youngster's father, who is scheming to steal a missile guidance system.

My Thoughts:
I liked this episode quite a bit. I especially enjoyed two different parts of this episodes. Early on I liked where Jaime took the survival course with the father... and how she surprised him with having everything done in no time... thanks to the help of her bionics. Then I also liked where she was trying to deal with the little girl... who proved to be a problem child in her own right. Made for an entertaining episode.

Original Airdate: March 16, 1977

An art forger named Pierre Lambert accompanies Jaime to Paris where their mission is to trap a master criminal and recover missing, valuable paintings.

My Thoughts:
This episode I didn't care too much for. I had a hard time getting into the story... and really didn't care for the characters. So this one was a little disappointing to me.

Bionic Woman: Season 2

Original Airdate: March 23, 1977

Jaime's rancher friend, Thomas Bearclaw, begins to see a half-human, half-animal demon after he and his neighbor exhume an ancient carving from an American Indian burial ground on his property.

My Thoughts:
This episode was a little different in that she wasn't on a mission for the OSI. Instead she was just helping a friend in trouble. And I liked this episode much better. I got a kick out of how she solved the problem.

Bionic Woman: Season 2

Original Airdate: March 30, 1977

Posing as a salvage crewmember, Jaime boards a World War II destroyer ship to investigate the discovery of a skeleton wearing the dog tags of Oscar's brother, Sam Goldman.

My Thoughts:
The first thing I thought when I read the plot to this episode is that Jaime will have to prove her strength and her worth to be on a salvage ship with these fools. While they didn't make her prove herself... they definitely gave her a hard time. Back in the mid '70s when this series was made... a woman having such a job would probably been unheard of. It is a decent enough episode... but I didn't care for it as much as most the episodes.

One thing I thought was weird was when Oscar asked for Jaime to help her out of friendship... as this was personal... she said she is glad to finally be able to help someone out of friendship as she only gets to use her bionics for the OSI or housework. But as I noted in just the last episode she was helping out a friend... an old college professor of hers. Seemed odd they made her say that after what the last episode was.

Original Airdate: May 4, 1977

In order to capture the leader of a large theft racket, Jaime masquerades as a bank robber—but then is blackmailed into participating in an actual heist.

My Thoughts:
This season two finale guest stars Elisha Cook. And he plays a fun character... bring a lot of comedy to this episode. I enjoyed it quite a bit. A fun story with a good ending.

I don't remember that dog at all.  Though I don't remember a lot from the show in general.
They even added the sound effect for the dog... :lol

I always found the slow motion and silly sound effect repeated over and over and over and over again rendered this show unwatchable at the best of times, never mind when they use it on the bloody dog!  :suicide:

Bionic Woman: Season 3

Original Airdate: September 10, 1977

When Jaime learns of another bionic prototype—a German Shepherd named Max—who's suffering from many of the same setbacks she and Steve Austin experienced, she makes it her mission to rehabilitate the animal.

My Thoughts:
A fun episode. I am the first to admit that the idea of a bionic dog is a bit on the cheesy side... but I enjoyed it back then... and I am enjoying it now. It is odd how much of this episode came back to me as I watched it.I was sitting here watching it with my brother... in several spots I was able to tell him exactly what was about to happen. And I am sure I haven't seen any of these episodes since probably the mid to late '80s.
