Title: Hi Y'all.
Post by: mediadogg on May 23, 2010, 04:51:19 PM
Coming over from You Know Where. I enjoy all kinds of media. Technology freak and mini-Geek. I enjoy most of all live performances, because there is still no good electronic way to totally recreate the warmth, ambience, smells and sweat of the performance venue.

Just getting into Blu-Ray big time, so I will be enjoying your reviews to help guide my purchase decisions.

What up, Dawg?  ;D  My name is Roger and I live in West Virginia with my cat Cindy.  I am not into Blu-Ray at this time...perhaps Pete and I are the old stick-in-the-muds that refuse to upgrade?  I like video games, too, though I don't have the latest systems (Wii, PS3, Xbox 360) so I have to make do with my PS2, original Xbox, GameCube and DS.  :P

Welcome Mediadog. The reviews here are good but you don't have to review stuff to enjoy this site. There a few of us slackers who just lurk and throw in our  :2cents: every now and then.

The games are fun (but we don't play them too much anymore  :( )

I'm glad you reminded me, I was suppose to start a new one after Jeopardy finished.

Good to see you mediadogg!

Since you're into technology and a self-described geek, you'll get a kick out of this.  Yesterday my wife sent me to the store with a shopping list.  But I didn't have a pen and couldn't cross things off.  So I took a photo of the list with my phone, then loaded the photo in my image editing app and used the line drawing tool to cross things off the list.

Welcome!

Next step:
She gets an iPhone, writes the list on that and than transfers it to you :P

Fantastic! I had a shopping app on my Android, but could never be bothered to use it. Taking a photo of the list is so geeky, I have to applaud you.

We're only recently getting into Blu-Ray reviews. I've had mine about a year. So do excuse that all of them are largely: "OMFG! This is soooo gorgeous! You have to buy it NOW!" and often accompanied with a... :drooling:

Welcome to the forum Mediadog. Glad to see someone that likes live-performances. A fan of theatre are you?

Nice to see ya, mediadogg.

I love live theater myself.  The Fox Theater here in Atlanta is a real treat!  But, some of the smaller, more intimate theaters are my favorites.

What type of theatre are you in to mediadog? Musicals? Shakespeare? Or just any good show. I like to go to the theatre as much as I can and try and see a broad range of shows, I do love a good Broadway musical though.

I'm afraid I'm the leach in the group - I do more reading than reviews.  :bag:

Nothing wrong with that. But in that case if you are the leech then I am the snail, we all know that if I start a 'Marathon' the odds are I will not be finishing it for months, or even years, or even ever? *cough* Animated film marathon. :P

Don't feel bad about that...I still haven't finished the Hitchcock marathon - I've even lost track of how many more I have to watch for it..   And there is the Bond marathon I still need to finish too.  Though I am closer to finishing that one.

Actually, not much into Shakespeare. I do enjoy some stage plays and musicals. I really enjoy Opera, chamber music, and more recently Jazz in a small venue. Being close to the performers and instruments is thrilling, and just about the only way to better the sound of modern Home Theater. Today's musicals and symphony halls have so much electronic sound reinforcement ...

I also love contemporary music. Give me Lady Gaga, Dixie Chicks, Jay-Z, MJ, Led Zepplin - all that stuff - I'm lovin' it. Just a musical junkieI guess.

Oh I know what you mean, there is nothing quite like being a part of an audience in such a setting. I sometimes visit fantastic music halls in Melbourne with my sister to hear the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra perform. It really is an amazing treat for my ears, such occaisions could leave one just closing their eyes and drifting away into the brilliant sound.

Haha wow, that IS a diverse range of music. I am similar though, my itunes contains most of what you have mentioned above. I have everything from The Beatles, Jazz, Irish music, and then all the very latest dance and electronica music also, there's really almost no genre of music I genuinly dislike. Except perhaps Christian... but maybe I just haven't heard enough of it.
