I think Christopher Nolan's take on Batman is near-perfect so I'm glad to hear there is at least talk of him completing the trilogy, because I'm sure he will do so in magnificent fashion. But I had no idea he was involved in the Superman reboot, or that David Goyer is writing it. Shocked

I liked Superman Returns and feared that Warner Bros. would misunderstand the character if they took another shot at it. I'd written it off as a bad idea if they couldn't let Singer and Routh follow up their film, because it would surely be a studio toy marketing 3D crap otherwise. But Nolan involved? After what he did for Bats, this is excellent news!

And let's not get ahead of ourselves, but if Nolan is involved in both?

Madam, you disappoint me! Have you not read Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns? A key plot features Superman and it is amazing! He found a way that the two compliment each other in all sorts of ways and the very final moments are wonderful.

And to prove it wasn't a one-off, Alex Ross had them bouncing off one another in Kingdom Come and again, it just worked so well.

I read about Nolan having some involvement in a new Superman movie last month..I meant to make a post, but I kept forgetting.
I think this is promising for Superman.

I did like Superman Returns too.

My main concern with a new Superman movie is that I read not long after Dark Knight came out that Warner Brothers wanted to reboot Superman and make it darker.  They point to the success of Batman Begins and Dark Knight and how dark they are.  Superman has never been as dark as Batman and I don't think that is the right way to go with a movie..at least not one that is dark overall.  Maybe a few darker elements or something.

Like Dragonfire I knew this before and just failed to mention it. Bag

I think as long as Nolan doesn't make the mistake to simply try to apply the stuff he did with Batman to the other franchise, which is what the studio may be aiming for, I think only good can come from this. (Although, I am one of those people who have no overly big issues with Superman Returns.)

Goyer... Well, look him up on IMDb (or just follow the link Laugh) and decide for yourself... I think he is certainly not a clear homerun. He wrote Blade II, but also Blade Trinity, not to forget Ghost Rider.

Yes I have, its a good story... but not Batmans best

This is my exact point! I don't think they need to be in the same film. I dont even think there should be a justice league film... two many personalities too little time.

Batman and Superman are such big characters they deserve there own film... across over would not do them justice. (pardon the pun)

If the crossover was done correctly it could work.  Build up to it over a few movies..sort of like Marvel seems to be doing by introducing characters in their own movies and then doing The Avengers.

I like The Dark Knight Returns, but it isn't my favourite either. However it does demonstrate how the two work so well together. I understand the reservations about Warner wanting to go dark and I share them, but I hope they have made a mistake (so far as they are concerned) picking Nolan to shepherd the new film. Obviously they're thinking he'll make a serious and sombre Batman style piece, but in fact I like Nolan's work because his stories have integrity and he clearly understands the subjects on each individual case. I think he will have a good understanding of what makes Superman special.

If Nolan focuses on the important things with Superman, then he could create a wonderful Superman movie.  Nolan is very talented and seems to pay attention to each subject he tackles.  If he gives the same attention to detail to Superman, it will work I think.

Actually, if you re-read it, they're just rehashing the same quote and possibly speculating on him directing more. That would be cool, but as we've mentioned in the trailer thread, sometimes a producer can be director in all but name! Wink
