The same reason why tyres squeak when you do a kick-start - even on sand.

The same reason why you hear a metallic chafe sound when someone draws his sword - the inside of a sheath is rarely (if ever) metallic.

So, like I said, not to confuse American audience. They expect the tyres to sqeak   :tease:

And the same reason why you always have crickets at night in the countryside (regardless of country!) and all frogs ribbit like the species only found in California!

06. Halloween (1997-10-27)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Carl Ellsworth (Writer)
Director: Bruce Seth Green
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Seth Green (Oz), James Marsters (Spike), Robin Sachs (Ethan Rayne), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Armin Shimerman (Principal Snyder), Larry Bagby III (Larry), Abigail Gershman (Girl)

I always enjoyed this episode a lot. Ghost Willow was especially great. And a helpless Buffy was also interesting to see.

I think it's great they introduce the Ripper side to Giles. The last few episodes, Giles was becoming the butt of too many jokes.

I have a conflict of interest here. I'd love to do a Buffy & Angel marathon myself (maybe without the written Angel part [again]) but I "have to" watch two more seasons of DS9 (I didn't watch any this weekend and I will be in Berlin next weekend) and I don't think two people should do the same marathon unless it's a group thingy and I wanted to watch Farscape again and when it's finished Battlestar Galactica.

Argl, I need more time!

07. Lie to Me (1997-11-02)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Joss Whedon (Writer)
Director: Joss Whedon
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Robia La Morte (Jenny Calendar), James Marsters (Spike), Jason Behr (Ford), Jarrad Paul (Diego), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Will Rothhaar (James), Julia Lee (Chanterelle)

A good episode. I like the final exchange between Buffy and Giles.
And we hear Angel's connection to Drusilla.

08. The Dark Age (1997-11-10)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Dean Batali (Writer), Rob Des Hotel (Writer)
Director: Bruce Seth Green
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Robia La Morte (Jenny Calendar), Robin Sachs (Ethan Rayne), Stuart McLean (Philip Henry), Wendy Way (Dierdre), Michael Earl Reid (Custodian), Daniel Henry Murray (Creepy Cult Guy), Carlease Burke (Detective Winslow), Tony Sears (Mourge Attendent), John Bellucci (Man)

I think it was a great choice to give Giles a rebelious past as the Ripper. As I said before, he was becoming too much the butt of all jokes.

09. What's My Line Pt. 1 (1997-11-17)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Howard Gordon (Writer), Marti Noxon (Writer)
Director: David Solomon
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Seth Green (Oz), James Marsters (Spike), Eric Saiet (Dalton), Kelly Connell (Norman Pfister), Bianca Lawson (Kendra), Saverio Guerra (Willy the Snitch), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Armin Shimerman (Principal Snyder), Michael Rothhaar (Suitman), P. B. Hutton (Mrs. Kalish)

An episode I always liked. The introduction of Kendra and thus a second slayer (which paves the way for Faith :) ). Bringing Oz and Willow closer. I always felt that from this episode on, Buffy started its rise to greatness.

Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Marti Noxon (Writer)
Director: David Semel

This episode turns the table for Dru and Spike. Now she's the strong one, and he will be bound to a wheelchair for awhile.

11. Ted (1997-12-08)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), David Greenwalt (Writer), Joss Whedon (Writer)
Director: Bruce Seth Green
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), John Ritter (Ted), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar), Ken Thorley (Neal), James G. MacDonald (Detective Stein), Jeff Langton (Vampire)

I never liked this episode very much. At the time I thought robots did not fit with the Buffyverse (though later on other robots came).
This was the first Buffy episode which had a "big" guest star. I think John Ritter did well.
What I liked about this episode is, when Buffy thinks she accidentally killed a human and how she handles it.

12. Bad Eggs (0998-01-12)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Marti Noxon (Writer)
Director: David Greenwalt
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Jeremy Ratchford (Lyle Gorch), James Parks (Tector Gorch), Rick Zieff (Mr. Whitmore), Danny Strong (Jonathan), Brie McCaddin (Cute Girl), Eric Whitmore (Night Watchman)

A bodysnatcher episode. Although this is often seen as a weak episode, for some reason it had enough fun scenes in it, for me always enjoying watching it.

13. Surprise (1998-01-17)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Marti Noxon (Writer)
Director: Michael Lange
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Seth Green (Oz), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar), Brian Thompson (The Judge), Eric Saiet (Dalton), Vincent Schiavelli (Enios), James Marsters (Spike), Juliet Landau (Drusilla)

This episode introduces the idea, that on Buffy's birthday always something bad happens.
Nice that Oz is from now on part of the gang.

14. Innocence (1998-01-20)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Joss Whedon (Writer)
Director: Joss Whedon
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Seth Green (Oz), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar), Brian Thompson (The Judge), Ryan Francis (Soldier), Vincent Schiavelli (Enios), James Marsters (Spike), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), James Lurie (Teacher), Carla Madden (Woman), Parry Shen (Student)

Now the fun part begins! The Angelus story arc was always great turn of events. On Buffy I never really liked Angel, but when he became Angelus, he was really fun.
And the solution for defeating The Judge is a nice idea. Also we get a nice scene when Willow finds about Xander and Cordelia and tellls Xander off.

I always liked the idea of Oz being a werewolf. Although the werewolf looks quite cheap in this episode.

16. Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered (1998-02-10)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Marti Noxon (Writer)
Director: James A. Contner
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Seth Green (Oz), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar), Elizabeth Anne Allen (Amy), Mercedes McNab (Harmony), Lorna Scott (Miss Beakman), James Marsters (Spike), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Jason Hall (Devon), Jennie Chester (Kate), Kristen Winnicki (Cordette), Tamara Braun (Frenzied Girl), Scott Hamm (Jock)

I always liked this episode. It's the funny highlight of the otherwise more dramatic second half of season two.
I would have liked to see more of Amy in later episodes though (and not how she turned out to be in season six).

17. Passion (1998-02-24)
Writer: Ty King (Writer)
Director: Michael E. Gershman
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar), Richard Assad (Shop Owner), James Marsters (Spike), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Danny Strong (Student), Richard Hoyt Miller (Policeman)

A great episode! With a few scenes I always found very powerful: Angel killing Jenny. Giles finding Jenny. The phone call were Buffy and Willow learn that Jenny is dead. And the scene outside of the factory after Buffy saved Giles.

18. Killed by Death (1998-03-03)
Writer: Rob Des Hotel (Writer), Dean Batali (Writer)
Director: Deran Sarafian
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Richard Herd (Dr. Stanley Backer), Willie Garson (Guard), Andrew Ducote (Ryan), Juanita Jennings (Dr. Wilkinson), Robert Munic (Intern), Mimi Paley (Little Buffy), Denise Johnson (Celia), James Jude Courtney (Kindestod)

I always found this episode rather boring. Freddy Krueger look-a-like is killing children at the hospital in a monster-of-the-week show.

A good episode. I especially like the fact, that Angel and Buffy switch the (gender) role at the re-enactment at the end.
